We used Machs Party Studio for DJ, emcee, lighting, and coordination ("Yes I Do" coordination package) for our wedding on 3/21/15. Richard, our emcee, captured the crowd with his personality, jokes and games. He was able to engage everyone from our Americanized friends to Chinese relatives due to his fluency in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. There were lots of laughter that night, and many complimented us on our choice of emcee. Of course, none of the wedding details would've been possible without Phyllis the coordinator. Phyllis and her team at Mach's Party Studio are absolutely AMAZING!! My husband and I had our wedding at hotel seven4one down in laguna beach. My husband and I are of Taiwanese descent and needed someone fluent in both English and Mandarin to officiate and DJ/Emcee our wedding! This particular venue has a preferred vendor list and we had the hardest time finding the right officiant and DJ/Emcee. To be quite honest, I was hesitant on finding a bilingual officiant/Emcee because I was afraid that whoever we found would be fluent in Mandarin but not as proficient in English. LUCKILY FOR ME, we found Phyllis at Mach's party studio!! Phyllis is very talented, she is fluent in both Mandarin and English. She officiated and was the Emcee for our wedding and was able to incorporate both languages so all of our guests could understand what was going on. She was also able to make sure the ceremony/reception flowed without being repetitive in both languages. Working with Phyllis at Mach's party studio is so easy. She can communicate via email, text, phone, in person. She is very approachable and easy to talk to. She responds to emails very quickly and is able to work with you effortlessly. We met with Phyllis twice in person at their office, its a nice office space located in a business plaza off of Diamond Bar Blvd. During our visits, we were able to discuss our vision for the ceremony officiating and also how we wanted our reception to be. Phyllis is respectful of your wishes and wants to provide the best services to fit your needs. My husband and I opted for a simple vow exchange and she prepared it for us. She also offered to help us with our sand ceremony and presentation of a gift to our families. (She did that part in mandarin and it made it so much more meaningful as both our parents are fluent in mandarin!) During the reception, Phyllis was also able to incorporate fun games to make sure guests didn't get bored in the event there wasn't much dancing going on. We had to provide the prizes ourselves (which isn't a big deal at all!) but having those games really made the event much more fun and memorable. During that time, we got to relax and watch our guests have a fun time. I don't want to spoil the games by telling you what they are -- we didn't know what games would be played and it was such a fun surprise! The DJ service was great. They are able to play whatever songs you would like as long as you let them know ahead of time! They can also accommodate requests as long as the place you are at has internet they can use. Mach's party studio offers much more services than just officiating and DJ/emcee such as wedding planning, photo booth, etc. We already had a wedding planner so we didn't get to utilize this service. BUT, I would like to point out that even though we just used them for these services, they were still really easy to work with and they were able to coordinate with our planner and venue as well!! We hired Phyllis and her team for our wedding for MC, DJ, lighting and photo booth. When I was looking for an MC, I knew I wanted one that can speak Chinese and English fluently, many weddings I've been to have either MCs that speak perfect Chinese and broken English, or worse...perfect Cantonese and Mandarin with a very heavy accent. Machs Party Studio came highly recommended by our venue and some of my other vendors. When I met with Phyllis for the first time I was relieved that she speaks English and Mandarin fluently without any heavy accents. She was very easy to talk to and we made plans very quickly. We pretty much did a lot of the planning during our first meeting followed up by a few emails early on, and a couple of emails close to the wedding date. Phyllis responds to emails very quickly which made my wedding planning so much easier. She stayed within our budget and gave insight as a wedding coordinator to let us know what we can do to stay within our budget and still have our wedding and reception look the way we want to. Even though she was not our wedding coordinator, she still gave me her opinion when she thinks that we have problems with our floor plan. I only gave her songs I wanted for the procession, bridal procession, recession and our first dance. She was able to find all the songs that I wanted to play and she started and stopped exactly as I have planned. The survey that she sent out was pretty detailed and I got everything that I wanted the way that I wanted for the wedding and the reception. I didn't give her a list of other songs I wanted to play at the wedding, but we talked about what type of music should be played at the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception and I was very happy with what I heard. And many of my guests complimented on the choice of music that was played. The up lighting they provided was great, it matched the color of our wedding and made the reception area very cozy. The spot lights were perfectly placed to highlight the cake and the bridal table. I really like the custom gobo light with our name and wedding date on there. The photo booth was great, many of our guests had a lot of fun taking pictures. They provided a variety of props to take the photos with. What I really liked about the photo booth is that its not just a booth like many of the weddings I've been to in the past. You can't fit more than 4 people in those booths and that makes taking group pictures really hard! Phyllis used one of the walls in my cocktail area and created a very nice backdrop and a large open space. it comes with 2 strips of photos, one for the guests to keep and one for them to make a scrapbook page for us. I saw that many of my friends had some great group photos and no one looked like they were being squish! Someone is always by the booth to help with taking pictures and they provided materials for our guests to make a scrap book for us, and that was ready by the end of the evening. We got to see all our family and friends' photos that night! Even though I only used Machs Party Studio for MC, DJ, lighting and photo booth, they also provide a variety of other wedding and event related services. With the experience that I have with them I'm sure all their other services are just as good! We hired Phyllis to be our day-of coordinator for our May 2012 wedding at Pacific Palms in Industry Hills. Phyllis is on the preferred vendor list provided by PP and was recommended to us by our venue manager. I do have to say that even after hiring Phyllis we were still not convinced of the value of a day-of coordinator for the longest time, it turned out to be one of the best hires for our wedding. Unlike most couples, we were fairly confident in our ability to research the internet and do comparison shopping for wedding vendors. Therefore by the time we approached Phyllis, we had already hired a photographer and an officiant, and had decided the venue. Because of this, Phyllis was nice to recommend only the day-of coordinator service for ~$900-$1000. I can easily imagine people trying to hard sell us the more complete (and expensive) package. (As we later found out, there were A LOT MORE to plan in the wedding than just the venue, the officiant, and the photography.) We ended up going with Machs Party Studio for the emcee / DJ package (Richard Mach, Phyllis' husband, was the emcee), the florist, the chair covers, and the lighting. For the florist, the chair covers, and the lighting we wrote a check out to Machs Party Studio, but it is not completely clear to me whether MPS functions solely as a middle-person or if they handle these services themselves as well. We also hired the videographers and the make-up artist on Phyllis' recommendation. I would not say these are the cheapest options for each of these vendors, but I think I very much liked how they turned out on our wedding day. The only exception was the quality of the make-up (Janna), but that could be my high expectations having gone through the Taiwanese wedding industry types of make-up for our engagement photos. Even our make-up artist friend said the wedding make-up was professional and great, so it is probably just me. Up until this point (~ 1.5 months before the wedding) I probably still felt that it was not so important to have hired Phyllis. Sure we got recommendations from her, but we would have arrived at the same endpoints had we done our own research. But what really convinced me was our meeting 1 month prior to the wedding, where we gone through many details of the wedding. This meeting typically takes place in person, but since Phyllis, my wife and I were in three different places we had a google+ conference call. This meeting set up the blue print of the day-of rundown. Phyllis came up with an itemized list of to-dos for us, list of to-brings on the day of the wedding that we later could supplement, and answered all sorts of questions regarding the nitty gritty details and what-ifs. A number of items came out of this meeting were things I never thought of before. Because our officiant (Rich Cowley) is an experienced officiant rather than a novice or a friend, the officiant conducted most of our rehearsal the day before the wedding. But I was still impressed that Phyllis was able to work well in complement with the officiant, and was able to remind us of details that we would not have thought of, such as stand closer to each other in front of the gazebo, don't hold the bouquet too high, where to stand at what angle, etc. The day of the wedding, needless to say, went smoothly. We were able to focus on getting dressed, or try our best interacting with guests (very difficult in any wedding of decent size). Phyllis pretty much handled all interactions with the vendors (except for the make-up artists, who arrived really early), all set-ups, and was extremely organized and easily accessible. The only minor hiccup we had during our wedding was that we printed out menu cards for the tables but forgot to tell Phyllis about them (Chinese style banquet, so menu cards were not automatically provided by Pacific Palms). We then promptly forgot about their existence until after the wedding. Our wedding+reception also ran a bit late (mostly on the fault of our guests arriving late), but Phyllis helped pushing us back on schedule. Given the types of horror stories I've heard of other weddings, I think Phyllis executed our wedding impeccably. I was also impressed with the emcee, Richard. He was very funny, knew how to get the crowd involved, and had bags of tricks and games up his sleeves. A number of our guests had specifically mentioned the emcee as one of the highlights of our wedding. Apparently Richard could serve as the officiant as well; I could not comment on how he would be as an officiant (whose duty is in many ways the polar opposite of the emcee), but there are video clips of him on the web. In summary, I think Phyllis is extremely experienced with wedding in's and out's (esp. for Asians), very responsive through email or phone, and is very organized. Through the course of wedding planning we quickly learned how difficult it is to get someone respond to an itemized list of questions. She really made our wedding happen! read more

My fiance (now husband) and I were looking for a bilingual (Chinese-English) officiant to preside over our multicultural wedding on 11/1/2014. We found Phyllis through some brilliant Google searching on his behalf and we could not be happier!!! From the beginning, Phyllis was very understanding and attentive of our special needs. While she was definitely happy to accommodate on the various aspects of a bilingual ceremony, she also gave us her honest opinion on what would and wouldn't work, to ensure a smooth ceremony. One thing that was incredibly important to us was how Phyllis made it very clear that aside from her general message on marriage, she would not say anything about us as a couple unless we wrote down word for word what she wanted us to say. We had attended my sister-in-law's wedding last year, in which their officiant went off and told her own, completely exaggerated version of events, which left everyone in the audience feeling very uncomfortable. Thankfully, Phyllis was much more professional and knew better! In addition, my fiance and I lived in NY but were planning the wedding in California, which made things a little challenging in terms of time management. Not only was Phyllis able to accommodate us on short notice any time we were in the area to visit, she was extremely well-versed in the legal aspects of applying for the marriage license, so we were very prepared with regards to our timeline, needed documents, and any additional steps to ensuring the paperwork was completely accurately and on time. Phyllis' pricing was also very reasonable and fair. Unfortunately, we did not have the privilege of utilizing her other planning services, but we did get a recommendation from her for a bilingual wedding stationery vendor in the area and were very pleased with her suggestion. From beginning to end, Phyllis was an absolute joy to work with. She assisted me with Chinese translations for the various wedding ceremony events for my programs, and on the day of the wedding, she helped my fiance (who does not speak Chinese at all) through the difficult pronunciations of his Mandarin Chinese vows! Needless to say, everyone was very impressed! In addition, at Phyllis's suggestion, we added a surprise "parents appreciation" presentation to our ceremony, in which we gifted each other's parents bouquets as a thank you, and both of our parents were touched (and tearing) at the thoughtful gesture. After our ceremony, we had many friends and family come up to us and tell us how much they loved the intimacy of the whole event and how Phyllis did a great job in helping us incorporate our own touches. After the ceremony, Phyllis was even thoughtful enough to send us a little gift in the mail to help start our life as Mr. and Mrs. I cannot recommend Phyllis and Machs Party Studio highly enough, as she was definitely one of the highlights of our special day. We couldn't be happier with our decision to hire Phyllis, Richard and team. It made everything seamless to hire Machs Party Studios for the majority of our vendor needs because we only had to go through Phyllis. It felt like we were done planning our wedding months in advance because MPS was essentially an one stop shop for vendors. She was a pleasure to work with, always answering our questions promptly and made wedding planning easy! Phyllis was our coordinator from the beginning. She is very responsive to email and makes sure you know that she's just a phone call away. If you hire MPS for just day of coordination, you will definitely have to do the bulk of your planning yourself, but she is there to provide guidance. She also gives you suggestions and tips that I would have never thought of myself, even after being a bridesmaid many times. Phyllis was also our officiant. She conducted the ceremony in English and Mandarin. We wanted someone to be able to speak both languages fluently. We asked for her to conduct special moments of our ceremony such as the the part where we present appreciation flowers to our parents in Mandarin and she did such an amazing job that it was the most emotional part of our wedding day. Bride, groom, parents, even guests who didn't understand Mandarin were crying. Richard was our MC. He is funny, professional, poised and has a celebrity like charisma. He gets the crowd going and we played the most entertaining games. He even got my shy husband to dance like MJ on stage! I have to give it up to him for that! Richard and Phyllis are a great team professionally and definitely a couple that we aspire to be! Richard was also the coordinator when Phyllis was officiating our wedding. He made sure everyone looked perfect before they walked down the aisle and made sure our walk down the aisle was perfect. I've been to many weddings and took many photobooth pics but I must say Chic Photobooth is the best I've seen! We didn't get to take many pics ourselves, but our guests had the time of their lives! The photobooth is huge! I was able to fit me and my 7 bridesmaids! They have the most extensive and hilarious props too including a turkey! We loved all the props our guests were able to use and our they also had stickers of all sorts for our photobooth guest book. My husband and I laughed so hard when we went through the pics. Their lighting prices are very reasonable and they made our ballroom so beautiful. Definitely recommend getting uplights and spotlights! The only thing I wish could have been better if the assistant were better trained so that they could help Phyllis out as I felt they weren't as sharp and everything was dependent on Phyllis, probably would have been even better if the assistant was able to help out more. My fiance and I just had our wedding very recently. I rarely write Yelp reviews, but really felt compelled to write one because Machs really deserves it. All I can say is, WOW. Machs Party Studio really exceeded all of our expectations. We hired them as a package: photo booth, DJ, officiant, MC. We researched other bilingual wedding MCs, etc, but we decided to go with Machs. So happy with our choice! Phyllis was our main contact from the beginning, and she adds much needed professionalism to the wedding industry. You can actually pick up the phone and email her and she will be very responsive. As many of you amateur wedding planners will find out, wedding vendors can be very difficult to get a hold of! It can be very frustrating as you're planning your special day. So it was very refreshing from the start. Richard was our officiant/MC. He is truly a talent. He can speak Mandarin, Cantonese, and English which was important for our particular group. He was witty, funny, and was a true "puppet master" in the sense that he has an uncanny ability to read the vibe of the crowd and move things along appropriately. Oh, and a few of the wedding guests happened to mention how handsome he is. LOL I think Richard, me and my wife had really great chemistry on stage as well since many in our audience thought he was related to us somehow. Nope, he and Phyllis are just awesome people. Richard told me and my wife to just relax and let him take over. That assurance really helped keep our nerves in order (although it didn't prevent us from crying like babies when we exchanged vows or gave our speeches!), as he also did a stellar job keeping track of the day's itinerary and timing. So he essentially served as the reception "day of coordinator" as well. I am still at a loss for words trying to wrap my head around the day because there was so so much fun, emotion, and engagement with our audience... which was filled with traditional older Asian elders, business associates, to young professionals and relatives. Lots and lots of our relatives. Not an easy task! I think by NOT inviting kids helped to minimize the distractions, as Richard really knows how to command the audience's attention when appropriate. The games that we ended up playing were a big hit, as even I and my fiance didn't know what was in store for us. The photo booth was top notch quality, digital SLR quality, with an attendant throughout the time. It was a big hit. The audio/video was what you'd expect, set up properly and on time. Trust is something that is very difficult to obtain when working with wedding vendors, since most wedding couples are so vulnerable and dependent, and absolutely no experience in planning a wedding. So at the end of the day, you really need to be very selective and choose the most trustworthy vendors out there. Machs is a first class operation with a lot of experience, adding much needed professionalism in the wedding industry. We fully endorse their services. Our wedding has been described as "perfect" by several of the guests, including my new mother-in-law! haha How's that for getting the marriage off to a great start!? In our first meeting, Phyllis helped go over all the details of the package, giving useful and creative suggestions for how to organize our wedding day. We were looking for an MC who was trilingual (English, Mandarin, and Cantonese), and they were our top pick. Phyllis mentioned that she was already booked for an event that day, but that Richard would be there. On our wedding day, Richard and his awesome team showed up early to set up. I had already seen some of the videos on their website, but man, Richard is super funny and an outstanding MC. He played a couple of really funny games and always had a trick card up his sleeve - often catching me and my wife by surprise! My wife and I hired Richard and Phyllis off a vendor list from the Hilton San Gabriel after interviewing other potential wedding coordinators. We are both very glad that we did. She and her husband were perfect for the job and got it done in less than 2 months. It could not have gone any better !!! We both had the time of our lives. Our guests also had a great time. Phyllis suggested us to get their mcee service as well and we are so glad that we did. Phyllis responded to all emails promptly. She made the process so easy. We initially found MPS through yelp for lighting services and eventually booked them for MC, DJ, officiant, lighting, backdrop, and wedding coordinator. Boy was that a wise decision. We probably would have booked MPS for more vendors but had already book those elsewhere. The entire team arrived early on the wedding day to prepare and made the ceremony and reception run smoothly...we could really see their experience shine through. Richard was our bilingual (Cantonese/English) MC and officiant. He was charismatic, calm, and professional. We received a lot of feedback from our guest that the wedding was fun as Richard had kept the guests entertained throughout the entire time. One of our favorite was how he was able to get all of our the guests into the games and onto the dance floor. For those who organized an Asian wedding before, you would know that this is not easy to do. One moment the guest were on their seats and within 15 minutes, the entire dance floor was filled with guests dancing. Phyllis was our wedding coordinator. She was very organized, professional, and supportive. At many times, we were uncertain if our wedding planing progress is at a good pace or not and Phyllis was there to give us honest feedback and advices on what to prioritize on. From start to finish of the wedding, she is attentive to all the details and her work really shows because our wedding went very smoothly. On the day of the wedding, we didn't have to worry about a thing and just enjoyed the spotlight. We initially didn't think of having a wedding coordinator, but after considering all the DIY projects and details to our wedding, we decided to take a chance. We were so glad we did! If you have a large wedding party (we had about 330 guests) and lots of intricate details the wedding, hiring a wedding planning is highly recommended. My fiance and I planned/coordinate a lot before the wedding and left it all to Phyllis during our wedding day. We had several issues with our guests during our weddings (i.e, folks showing up late, someone who was vegetarian, unaccounted guests). It never occurred to us until after the wedding when our family members told us because Phyllis and her assistant took care of all of it during the wedding! PHEW! We are now believers that hiring a wedding coordinator is worth it! Regarding DJ, a tip is to submit your music song choice earlier. We had so much stuff going on prior to the wedding that we delayed that task. MPS was able to play all the important songs we requested, but the background music was left out of our control. The background music was good, but at some times we wished it was more customized to our likings. Again, we should have submitted our customized list earlier. At one point my Mom felt a part of the music was too soft. She made a comment to Phyllis and the DJs took our comment and adjusted the volume. They are receptive. We loved how MPS gave us dance lights... we didn't know it was included. Our guest really enjoyed the DJ dance music. Overall, we really miss working with MPS, especially with Phyllis. We were sad that the wedding was over because we really had a great time working her. Our parents also connected with her because they spoke the same language and Phyllis really eased their stress level during the wedding. My conservative parents are now believers of day of wedding coordination. We couldn't stop talking about how successful our wedding day was. As our guest puts it, "there was never a dull moment". My husband and I had a belated wedding reception (after having a private destination wedding) and he found Phyllis and Richard through a friend in the wedding coordinator business, which was perfect because we had wanted a bilingual (Chinese and English) MC. To our pleasant surprise, they turned out to be a one-stop shop for nearly everything! We ended up renting the photo booth from them, candy buffet jars, some vase decor, and also day-of coordination services. I can't tell you how much easier this made my life!!!! I was silly to think I wouldn't need a day-of coordinator, so with 2 months to go I realized I was in over my head, I decided to add it to my package, and boy was that the right decision!! I could sleep at night again, knowing that everything was taken care of. Phyllis answered all of my random, panicked emails with calm and collected answers. On the day of, the vendors knew where to go, the candy jars were filled, the framed photos were in their right place, the favors, the check-in table, the slideshow - it was all wonderful! We hired Machs Party Studios for MC/DJ service for our wedding in October 2012 at Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel. We needed a MC that was bilingual (english, mandarin/cantonese). Richard, who spoke english/mandarin/cantonese, was our MC for the evening and did an outstanding job! He has a warm and inviting personality and got the crowd energized. Right from the beginning, Phyllis was courteous in all of our phone conversations and email exchanges. She's quick in responding to my inquiries and attending to my wedding concerns. We've ask a few other vendors(mc/dj/lighting). Phyllis' pricing is very reasonable. Their experience and the way she handles the business gave me a peace of mind and a sense of trust. During our meetings at her office, we sat down a few times and went from some rough outlines to eventually detailed arrangements. While I have no experience with wedding stuff, she was able to understand my needs, to identify any void in certain responsibilities, and gave me great recommendations to fill them. During the wedding, we left everything in their hands, and we had a blast!! Our guests were really impressed and had none short of great compliments about the wedding. We had MPS take care of our MC/DJ services, photo booth, lighting, and chair covers. I was so happy to find Phyllis and Richard!!!! We mainly communicated with Phyllis and she was simply wonderful to work with. I was looking specifically for an MC that would be able to speak fluent English and Cantonese for some of our family members that only spoke Chinese. Richard was perfect! Not only did he speak both languages but he really brought a great upbeat energy to the wedding and kept everyone entertained during the whole reception! The games were great!!!! The DJ was great! We couldn't have asked for a better last song encore (Taylor Swift - Shake It Off) to end the night because everyone loved it!!!! The photo booth was a blast and we got a nice scrapbook at the end. The lighting (GOBO, uplights, spotlights, etc) and chair covers were perfect and matched my overall theme.
