This place just opened a few days ago. My family and I stopped by and got a snack and some beverages. We had a nice visit with the owner, John, and he was forthcoming concerning the many challenges a restaurateur experiences these days. I've been in a couple of times now and so far so good.. The servers/bartenders have all been friendly and accommodating. They have a good selection of craft and macro brews. The beer prices are on the high side - $7-8 per 16oz for the crafts seem to be the average here. I need to get out more though.. Not sure if this is where everyone is at now. 3 beers and a sandwich + tip set me back nearly $40, which seems like a lot to me. I like how the bar itself is quite large and spacious. Haven't sat in the regular dining area yet though I noticed that there are no booths, only tables. The decor is pretty plain if you care about that thing, but the place seems clean. There is a small-ish patio out front.. Not sure if they allow drinks out there or not. Every time I've seen people go out to smoke they've left the drinks at the bar. You also may need to walk through a cloud of smoke to get in if there are people out there. TVs are everywhere though I'm not sure what they subscribe to. Granted I was in on a Wednesday night in September so no football, but the best they had to offer for stuff on TV was dirt track racing and college women's volleyball.. Not that there is anything wrong with those sports - Just no baseball in sight in mid-September. Had food on my 2nd visit and it was good. It was good.. Not quite the best ever or anything but it was tasty and hit the spot. I liked the house-made pub chips. It's close to my house and has been a pleasant place so far.. Had early dinner at Mr. Brews Taphouse, Mesa today. It was our 1st time & won't be our last. My husband said his Cajun Burger & seasoned fries were very good. I had boneless wings & Wisconsin Cheese fries with bacon & scallions and both were delish!! The restaurant was bright & very clean. Nice atmosphere. I also want to mention that a server can make or break your experience & our server was friendly & personable & even had a laugh with us when I asked for a set of silverware & it was right in front of me! We're not beer drinkers, we only do soft drinks at lunch, iced tea and soda, but we had burgers, regular cheeseburger and a jalapeno burger. Both were dry, dry dry. We also had cheese curds, we are from the midwest thinking they would be good since they were advertised as "Wisconsin cheese curds" They weren't very good, too much breading and the cheese not melted. Great atmosphere to come for a drink, but would not recommend coming for a meal. Anything extra, such as ranch or Buffalo sauce was an additional charge. The chicken sandwich was two small nugget sized strips of chicken on a bun. The hamburger patties were flat pieces of meat. We were never asked how We would like the burger cooked, Probably because it was to thin to cook anything other than well done. The temperature was extremely hot inside the restaurant as the sun beats inside the glass all day. We had to keep our menus to use as a fan. Keep in mind they just opened and are working out kinks, decor, and crew but it was our 3rd time in. Having a culinary background and came from the hospitality industry I thought it was time for a solid review. All 3 times we sat at the bar and had a great experience. Today Drew poured our beers and delivered our meals. Cool guy, made us feel comfortable and welcome. Beers are reasonably priced and in line if you've spent some time in other tap houses you will agree. Had the Kentucky Bourbon burger. Cooked perfectly, came out in a timely manner. Props to the kitchen. Great house chips with it. Drew mentioned they added pool tables which we are big fan of and will be back to play. Place is right by our house so we'll be a regular. What a great place this is! There was a large group of 18 men there for lunch and a beverage. Everything went super! The beer was cold and delivered promptly to each person without a hitch. The same for the burgers or what ever that person ordered. No switching of any meals was needed. There was not a single complaint made to the person that arranged the gettogether. Like others I was excited that we have a new place near us. I was disappointed when we arrived to see that it looks exactly the same as the Barros pizza place. They added some decorations and TVs but, it just wasn't comfortable. I would have preferred a booth which they don't have and the lighting is bright. Everyone also seemed packed together when there was a section blocked off. It was pretty warm where we sat, there was limited seating on Monday with the Suns game on. The game started at 6 and there was no sound on the TVs, I asked the waiter who was very nice and said he would see what he could do. He also said they play music on Monday's and more people would have to request the game be turned up. Once turned up you couldn't hear the game, it wasn't played through the sound system and went through the TVs. We ate pretzels and drank beer, the food was ok and service was good. Just not what we were looking for to relax, we will try again at a later date. I know they are just getting started and we like to support local. read more
