I don't typically write reviews as I find most service to be at best average, but Brian is awesome!! I originally had my A/C repaired by a different company on Monday after spending a long hot weekend without an A/C. The other company spent 15 minutes working on the unit and stated it was repaired. The said they checked the freon levels and eveything else and I was good to go. Needless to say it was not. I quickly found Mr. Cool through Yelp. I really wasn't sure if all the 5 stars could be true. I was really skeptical and thought it might be some sort of scam, but I was desperate to have air. Brian came out and did the job right. Great!!! My AC was making a horrible loud noise for the past few years. I've had 3 different repairmen out to try to fix the problem but they didn't know what it was. For whatever reason, the main (electrical) breaker to my condo went out two nights ago. Pouring rain -- ZAM! -- lights out. So I spent some time yesterday getting a new breaker and a couple friends helped me put it in and Hey! It's working. Cool. Except that this morning when I woke the A/C wasn't working. Um... UT-OH. I only know enough about A/C to know that I can get hosed by some guy shows up and tells me I need a new this, a new that, blah blah. So, I get on Yelp. Amazingly, another A/C contractor on Yelp (and another with super-high ratings, too) was real busy today, couldn't come to my condo, TOLD ME TO CALL MR. COOL instead of waiting, as they knew for a fact that Brian is competent and honest. How cool is this? Answer: Very cool. So I call Mr. Cool, tell him what's shakin', he says he doesn't have a ladder high enough to get to my compressor (it's on the roof) and I said "Hey, no problem, if you can get out here I can get a ladder" and I *did* get a ladder, from a friend, and before too long here comes Mr. Cool, looking just like he does in the ad here. So if your compressor is on a roof-top you might have to get a ladder -- if he told me he needed a panda bear here to get the repairs done today, I'd have gotten a panda bear from somewheres.... He's a good diagnostician, not just a parts-changer, there were some 220 volt lines that'd somehow gotten trashed, burned through, maybe because of the power being switched on and off so many times with the bad breaker, no telling. But it's all fixed up within an hour, maybe a bit longer. Totally fair pricing, too. My condo is cool again, and the humidity out of the air. Thanx Mr. Cool! read more

My house is 4 years old and the first "major" issue i had was yesterday when the A/C stopped working. I was worried about being overcharged due to all the horror stories i heard about shady A/C repair people overcharging/misdiagnosing. MR COOL TO THE RESCUE! Yet another 5 star review. In the early morning hours of July 22nd, Sunday, 100 degrees forecasted, my a/c went out. I spent some time researching and felt confident it was the capacitor. After calling Lowe's, Home Depot, and numerous electircal supply shops in my area (Spicewood) with no luck, I didn't want to spend all day and all night in the heat. I found Brian (Mr. Cool) on Yelp and called him on a Sunday morning. He answered. Although I was way outside of his service area, he offered to sell me the part. He gave me directions to his house and I met him on Sunday morning. At his home, Brian gave me fair price for the part and some good education on how to install it myself. IT WORKED! Brian's honesty and willingness to help goes miles beyond what we tend to expect these days. Thank you, Brian! My house is cooling as I write this. I'm gonna say up front: I didn't use this guy. YET. Here's what happened. When my husband and I moved in to our new (resale) house last week we learned that the master bedroom was the hottest room in the house. The rest of the house was nice and chill but the bedroom was stuffy and warm. Fans didn't do it and sleep was fitful. I called Mr. Cool to inquire about getting a separate ductless A/C in the bedroom because I'd seen them work so well for my dad (much superior to a window unit.) He said it would cost about $3800 (which is what I expected.) But when I told him why I wanted it, he said, "That's probably due to poor ductwork in your bedroom. I know a guy who might be able to help you with that for a lot less than it would cost to put in a separate ductless system." He gave me the phone number of a guy named Frank McCarthy, whom I was able to connect with the same day. He came out the following day (all the way to Driftwood, mind you) and told us he could make our bedroom the coldest room in the house for $900. Long story short his guys came out the day after that (today!) and did the work. After a couple of hours, my bedroom is now crisp and breezy! I'm reviewing Mr. Cool because he could've easily taken my money and put in a ductless system. But instead, he told me a possible way around it. This guy is honest. And as nice as the day is long. On a super busy summer day he was very patient and stopped what he was doing to talk me through it. If I ever have regular A/C issues, this is the guy I will call. He's awesome. Brian (Mr.Cool) is honest and dependable. His biggest flaw is that he loves to talk and will spend a load of time talking to you about everything. But if that's the biggest flaw in a workman, I'll take that, esp. since he doesnt' charge by the hour. (He gives a quote and stays with it). We first had Fox come out and they told us that we needed a whole new A/C. We called Mr. Cool for a second opinion. Brian (Mr.Cool) told us that the system should be good for another few years, but that there is no guarantee. He quoted a few hundred for fixing the system (versus a couple thousand for a new system) but warned us that there is a chance that it still might break. It was a chance we would have to take. That was over four years ago and his work is still working very well. We keep our A/C around 60 degrees in the summer, so we test it to the limit. I am very, very happy with Mr. Cool! read more

My regular HVAC person moved out of Austin (he was awesome!) so I called Mr Cool today to take a look at my AC which is not working well (might need replacing). Some guy answered the phone (forgot his name) and unfortunately Mr Cool HVAC does not service Steiner Ranch. What I found odd was the unsolicited reason I was given: there's too many stoplights so it takes too long to get there. My impression was he seemed a bit put out by having a phone conversation with me. It would have just been better if he had said he had too many jobs or simply stated it was outside of his work area instead of going in to a detailed explanation of why. One thing that was nice was that Mr Cool HVAC did recommend another HVAC person to call (not an actual company so I'm pretty dubious and decided not to call). Bottom line my first impression was kind of bad.I found another HVAC company which is about the same distance away and services Steiner Ranch no problem. They were really professional over the phone and I got a good feeling. My suggestion is for Mr Cool to improve their handling of calls and improve their website...tparts of the site are broken/not working and I suggest they add what areas they service to save time for everyone involved. =) read more

I had inconsistent cooling across upstairs rooms on our ~4 year old home that had been present since day 1, but we just tolerated the issue. I anticipated that I likely needed some tuning or minimal repairs to ducting or dampers. Hernan came out to diagnose the problem and quickly assessed our system and began the tuning process of assorted dampers in our two story, two zone house and clearly communicated his diagnosis and fix and also gave me additional information to aid me in understanding of our system and how it works and some ongoing maintenance tips. They recommend annual check-up maintenance on home HVAC systems and for the very reasonable price of their service call, I intend to do that each spring. Highly recommended. read more

I reached out to him on a whim, didn't think he'd be taking new customers as I'm sure he gets oodles of calls due to his plethora of excellent reviews, but luckily we live on the same side of town and he made time to help me out. I didn't need much, just moved into a new home and wanted my HVAC system checked out - he came over a couple of days later and gave it a thorough check, and really took his time to explain to me what was what, showed me a few basic maintenance items I could take care of myself, and what to look for when it gets time to call him back. Beyond being super responsive, reliable, and knowledgeable, Brian is just one of the nicest, most personable and down to earth contractors I've met. Helped me out with my issues on my heater and even had the parts on hand to get me back up and running. Mr. Cool is NOT cool! For 4 years he has serviced our A/C unit. The first 2 were excellent, and the second 2 were completely unacceptable. The last 2 years we called and after the 3rd time he said he would call with a time to come by. He called and set up a time and I took off of work both times only to be stood up and he would not answer phone calls as to why and a possible reschedule. I was very reasonable with this and gave him the benefit of the doubt the first time. However, after 2 years in a row people need to know that your at your own risk when calling Mr. Cool. My time is very valuable to me as I'm sure his is as well, but you don't treat repeat customers this way. read more
