One thing I forgot to mention is that the wait-staff (with small exception) is fantastic. One of their best servers remembers exactly what we like and has our drink orders ready virtually seconds after we sit down-without even having to ask! She's fantastic although we can never seem to remember her name. We experienced the one small exception I mentioned the other day when our server simply didn't take very good care of us. Glasses didn't stay full, she didn't check on us and she got our order wrong twice. With that in mind, if that happens to you, that sort of thing is the exception here rather than the rule. Trust me. My favorite breakfast place EVER. I live in Kent now and make the hour + drive at least once a month and it's so worth it. I am so weird about eggs and this is the only place that cooks eggs correctly and they taste delicious. I've never had a bad meal here. Breakfast is the best meal lunch and dinner here are okay but breakfast is the star. The customer service is exceptional and the atmosphere is cozy, country and super homey. We ate here last about a year ago, thought we were safe with breakfast but it was very slow and the sausage links were totally burnt and shriveled up, looked like they were cooked 2 hours ago and left in a warmer. They brought out replacement ones that didnt look much better. We tried it again today and like last time it was nothing special. Prices seem high, they were out of several sides, waitress forgot some of the requests, english muffin was black and burnt, the large pieces of fried chicken was not thoroughly cooked and had some red inside, the smaller pieces were overcooked. After we got our food we never saw the waitress again, I was going to ask for a new english muffin. We were seated quickly but I saw others come in after us and wait for a long time before anyone seated them and the restraint was not even very busy. read more

My 5 stars are for the SERVERS. They basically run the place with superhuman power because they're always understaffed and wearing the hostess hat, too. The service is awesome. Food is good - always fresh. Yes, it's basic food you can make in your kitchen. No special recipes or anything like that. But it's made well, and the staff are so friendly and amazing. Yes, often they are busy and short staffed and it's not fair to the servers - I was just in the other night when one server was literally handling the entire restaurant and being the hostess too... I will never understand how business owners can do that to their staff. Been in the food industry 17 years and I've seen it in every place I've worked. I hope the owners read this and other people's reviews because it really is unfair to understaff to save labor costs. The staff may love working here, but if they had support and didn't have to run the place by themselves, they'd be less stressed, and the customers would be happier and there would be more 5 star reviews here. My 5 stars are for the staff who, somehow, under enormous pressure, manage to keep a genuine smile on their face, connect with the customers, and provide excellent customer service despite being seriously shorted the support they deserve. read more

I have eaten at Mr. Doug's many times and each time the service get worse and worse, the food is about a 4 out of 10. I reached my limit the other day when I took my daughter hear for lunch. The table our server sat us at was dirty, it took 35 mins to get a pancake and waffle with only 3 other customers in the place. While we where trying to eat the waitress insisted on running the push vacuum at our feet and coming to do her restock of the table while we where eating. I had to get up and go and find out waitress in the back to get a refill of my soda, we will be finding a new place to eat, not worth the time to eat here anymore read more

I was recommended to go here by regular local customers. I have worked in food service management, as well as multiple other positions in the industry and have been married to a chef. I was very disappointed in the food and service. As a customer you shouldn't have to ask for everything, never get refills, have your order wrong and your creme pie have no whip cream on it. I really like going to Mr. Dougs, especially since it is under new management. It's a great little place and probably the best place to get breakfast in Yelm, in my opinion. I love their breakfast and lunch foods. I'm never disappointed when I go to eat there. Service is not always the fastest but I go there to relax and enjoy my day, not rush in and out. I also go there for the servers. They are always very friendly and do what they can to give you a good experience. read more

My wife and I visited a couple times. The first time our service was great and our server was friendly with suggestions. Our steak was delicious. The other time however ruined our experience there. It had been busy that day, it was a Sunday, so we knew service might be a little slower. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated and by the time someone asked what we wanted to drink we had been waiting about another 15 minutes. Finally when we got our order in I had a steak, my wife had a French dip. While waiting for our food to arrive our waitress didn't come by once to ask if we wanted refills on our sodas. She kept tending to her other tables routinely except ours.Finally after waiting a half hour for my salad, we flagged down another waitress that wasn't designated for our area and asked her to check on our food. Amazingly it was ready. And even refilled our drinks. But the food was disappointing. The steak was dry and overcooked, and warm (as if it had been sitting out a while. My wife's sandwich was cold and had tasted like it had been defrosted. Unfortunately we could have made better at home. In the end we ended up giving the other waitress a tip because she helped us out more than our assigned waitress. On our first visit we would've given it 4 stars, but because of our last experience (which was about a year ago) we gave it 2 stars and we haven't been back. Kuddos to the other waitress though. We visited Mr. Doug's in June when we were house hunting. I remember being please with the food and service and so we went again this am before church. We waited over 5 minutes to be seated, and even then we were just told which table to sit and to go ahead while the waitress attended to a customer wanting to pay their bill AFTER we had been standing for 5 minutes already. Then we sat, waited another 15-20 minutes for someone to take our drink or food orders. No one even spoke to us or told us they would be right with us. Finally, as we were walking out a young kid said he'd be right over to take our order. I said no thanks, we'd already waited long enough. We went to the Roadrunner down the street and were much happier with the service (and food). read more

We ate breakfast there from 6/25-28/11. We were staying at the Prairie Hotel across the street from Doug's; a very nice hotel. The breakfasts are large, the omelets are wonderful and the hash brown potatoes are fresh and not frozen. I had the oatmeal and English muffin for my breakfasts but my wife had the other and ham and eggs the last morning. All were well prepared and delicious. The staff is very friendly, efficient, and helpful without being overbearing. An excellent place for breakfast and highly recommended. read more

My family and I eat at Mr. Dougs regularly and we always feel better than satisfied afte leaving. They have a great staff and they are just a wholesome place for being a small town restraurant.Denise is a excellent waitress and I would recommend this place to anyone. I ate lunch at Mr. Dougs today and was craving fish and chips. The clam chowder came first. My spoon could stand up in it and when tipping it on its side nothing would pour out. I ate a few spoonfuls and saw that it was thick with potatoes and a few specs of clams. I called the waiter and told him what I had found. He brought a new one with a little more water in it. I told him it was really potato soup and the chef doesn't really know how to make clam chowder. Next the fish and Cole slaw came. The fish was cooked too long and was on the dark side. Inside it was dry and overcooked. My question is this: Why would anybody open a restaurant if they didn't know how to cook or have any pride in their product. One star is being very generous indeed. The previous reviews on this place are dead on! The wait staff is disconnected and unfriendly, slow and the comment on the American cheese is hysterical! The owner only eats American cheese, which tells you something about the possibilities here already. The place is overpriced and I find the food much quicker and fresher down the street--EITHER DIRECTION. These folks shouldn't have taken over what used to be a great place! read more

Visited around 10am on a Sunday morning - not too busy, empty tables abound. Seated quickly, served drinks quickly, order taken quickly... And then waited 30+ minutes for the food to arrive, which was simply an order of eggs, bacon & toast, and an omelet. The Western omelet was more of an omelet burrito/wrap - the ham, peppers and cheese laying inside a folded in half plain omelet "shell" instead of mixed in with the omelet when cooked - first time I've ever had a omelet prepared like that, and annoying to try and eat that way. The eggs were undercooked and runny... and that was the last time we had any interaction with our server until we were finished with our meal; no "how is everything?" or check on our drinks, or anything. When she finally returned 20 minutes later, she asked if there was a problem with the eggs (which had been sitting out on the edge of the table on a plate by themselves, that's a clue...) and we told her the issue. She apologized and asked if we would like them redone, but we declined because we didn't have the time to wait. So she instead brought us the full bill - no credit for the uneaten eggs! So we paid the bill, went on our merry way, and told ourselves we will never return. read more

I wrote a review awhile back and and it was "ok" however I thought I would give them another chance. WOW what a mistake! It was worse. I had the seafood alfredo for $13 because it was always good in the past. This time the noodles had a texture that made me believe they had been sitting all day and just warmed up. The sauce had what I thought was a "strange" taste to it but I thought it was just me because my Son was eatting the same thing and didn't say anything. I ate about a quarter of it and had my wife taste it (I didn't tell her what I thought). She almost spit it back out. We call the waitress and told her there was something "off" with it and she looked at us like we were speaking some other language and she didn't understand. After we left (no there was no offer to comp anything) my Son and I were both sure we were going to be ill by nightfall. My Wife's meal was a salad and it was edible but as she said you can't really mess up a salad.... My recomendation? Unless you are STARVING and BK is closed, go elsewhere!
