Came here for a low key valentines day and it did not disappoint. We got there around 7pm and we're able to get a seat at the bar. It was pretty quiet until around 10pm when we left. We ordered wings, fries, fried pepperoni and many drinks. The wings were solid. We got everything and bbq. The everything is spicy. The rest of the food waa great. I liked the fried pepperoni that were recommended to me. Im recommending them to you. You also get marinara sauce for dipping. Downside. I think my gluten allergies are getting worse because this is a shared fryer and I had small reactions that I wasn't expecting. Bartenders were fun and friendly. It was a great time! We came here to see Off the Wall. Any place that adds blueberries to an EBC Blueberry is already on my good side. They've got a lot of craft brews, cheap but tasty bar eats, pool, darts, and a small stage. The crowd noise can be unpleasantly loud without music, but the acoustics are great for when the music starts. A security guard was a little weird when my husband tried to go to the bathroom and wanted to take his chair unless he got out of line and sat back down. Apparently he was guarding that chair in particular. I dunno. Otherwise service is great. read more

Lots to love about the name of our next place -- Mr. Goodbar. Mister. Good. Bar. Maybe a little too on-the-nose? "Mr. Goodbar? That's my father. Please, call me Goodbar." Location: 3 / 5 Goodbar got off to a rough start. Our first seats were in close proximity to the bathroom, from which a pungent urinal cake odor emanated. We were able to relocate easily... but the experience lingered. Why must we be forced to contend with urinous odors on so many of these visits? On the plus side, Mr Goodbar has an impressive beer offering and is a great experience otherwise. Presentation: 3.5 / 5 They did a nice job separating the flavors and explaining the respective style differences but as you can see, there were a lot of paper products. A little more porcelain would go a long way to a better score here. Meat: 3.5 / 5 These chickens would have made good politicians because they had extremely thick skins which led to a chewy experience at times. Also, there were a surprising number of oddball shapes with bones sticking out. Cook: 7 / 10 The layout of Goodbar gave us a different perspective on this scoring section because most of the food preparation occurs right out in the open for all to see. We were a bit fearful that it would be like touring the sausage factory (after which most people never want to eat sausage) but it was a quiet night so our order got the maximum attention and everything came out hot and crispy. Specialty: 6.5 / 10 The Horsey Honey Mustard tasted almost nothing like mustard, honey or horse (which we understood, hopefully, to be horseradish). Cajun stout were a decent, sweet BBQ style but not enough Cajun and very little stout. And finally the Italian wings were basically just a plain wing. With all these creative-sounding styles, we were expecting a trip through flavor country and instead we got a stroll through blandsville. Wing std: 13.5 / 15 This is the money category and Goodbar hit the jackpot here. The application of sauce was perfect and the standard medium sauce was a great blend of heat and buttery flavor. While we were somewhat split on the specialty flavors, the Kings were in unanimous agreement about the standard wings. Overall, be careful what you order and be more careful where you sit. This leaves Mr Goodbar somewhere in chicken wing purgatory. While these were good enough to keep them off our "cut" list, they were also not good enough to earn them a playoff spot. When in Buffalo, it seems obligatory to try a wing bar in town. Mr. Goodbar happened to be the closest one to the area I was in so I gave it a try for lunch and was not disappointed. I was quickly greeted and grabbed a seat at bar so I could watch the game. It was pretty empty for lunch and the food came quick. I went with an order of the medium wings and onion rings. The rings were a huge portion and perfectly fried and seasoned. The wings were excellent- good size with lots of meat and a good amount of spice without burning your taste buds. I frequently visit Mr. Goodbar with my group of friends. It is a fun place to gather with friends over drinks while tuning in to a football game, listening to live music, or just to get out of the house on a Friday night. The downstairs is a decent size with the bar close to the entrance and with a large space on the other side of the room for live music and games. There is a large room upstairs (with a bar) where they have karaoke every Wednesday night - it is so much fun! The only critique I have is that they never have more than 1 bartender upstairs, so I'm sometimes waiting 5-10 minutes for 1 beer, which is really annoying. Your best bet is to just go downstairs where they always have multiple bartenders. The staff is very kind despite being busy. Their food is also really good (yup, including the wings!) so no need to eat dinner ahead of time, unless you can't eat typical bar food! Mr. Goodbar is the quintessential Buffalo dive bar. I'm glad it's doing well during the pandemic and am glad to give them my business. read more

The patio area is nice in the summertime & the beer list here is superb & well rounded- everything from Blue light & PBR to great craft beer from breweries you haven't even heard of. I've been here a few times, for drinks with friends and for their "Dear Diary" series in the warmer months. Last night was my most recent trip, because sometimes you just need a nice divey type of bar. There were seats that the bar, so we saddled right up and ordered drinks. I saw on the specials board that they had some nice looking drink specials, one of which was $3 green tea shots. Ordered three, one per person in my group. They were made with Jameson and tasted legit like green tea. Whhhaaat?! I know, $3 for a Jameson shot is a darn bargain if I've ever seen one. Things I love: -heated patio in the winter for smokers/ people who want fresh air -pool table! -food/drink specials -expansive upstairs area (where they host dead diary) - dear diary nights- people legitimately get on stage and read excerpts from their childhood/ teenage diaries- it is HILARIOUS. Downsides: -it's an Elmwood bar and can get crowded - the parking can be a nightmare if you drive there Overall, one of my favorite divey joints in the city. read more

I go here often and will be back. I go for the comedy though. It's a cool neighborhood bar in the village. They have DJs sometimes, live remotes with the radio station, and I think even live music on some nights. There's pool and darts; good food. A tater tots and nachos bar (pre-COVID) and good drinks....lots of drinks. But I go for the comedy on Thursday nights. Clayton and Bennett do a great job with the open mic events and showcases over there. I suggest this to anyone; whether they live in the area or are visiting the area. Went here on a Friday night and the bouncer denied my friends out of state ID, which is real, and then handed him his old NY expired ID to prove he is indeed 21 and then said that was fake too. Nice place, dive bar definitely but they have some great comedy shows from time to time and the bartenders are pretty cool. If you have a party you can rent out the upstairs and they have a private bar up there. For a typical buffalo bar I could not really think of any reason why you should not go there. Like all places it could get crowded and parking can be pretty rough in that area but if that doesn't bother you check it out some time. read more

If you like dive bars, this place is great. I don't like dive bars (but I really wanted to try their chicken wings), so I came here with a bunch of friends. As I entered, I observed really, really, really drunk people having fun. That involved "dancing" (stumbling), shrieking and slurred conversation. I prefer 'dancing' that is more close to dancing than stumbling and don't really enjoying hearing people shriek, but hey I don't judge. It's great to see people have fun. It was a Wednesday night and there was stand-up comedy upstairs. The first guy started off his routine by hitting on all the girls in the front row and I was pretty jealous of his job. He was hitting on the women AND getting laughs! How cool is that? The second guy made a lot of grandma and Facebook jokes that I didn't particularly find funny, but then the wings came out and OH PAPA -- they were great! We ordered them extra crispy and they did not disappoint. 40 wings came to be about $41 and the spicy barbecue wings are to die for. They really rival some of the touristy places that 'invented wings' (Duff's and Anchorbar) and are local and dive-y (whatever that means). Heck, I don't even know. I just know they tasted great. Amazing beer selection and equally amazing wings!!! The current owner is a huge beer fan and really knows his beers. In addition to the normal Blue, Bud Light and Rolling Rock, there's also about 36 micro-brews on tap. The owner tries his best to have them all be different styles so theres a TON of variety. Goodbar also hosts a beer club the second Wednesday of every month. Beer club is set up like a traditional tasting where you get to sample about 12 beers. There's always a speaker for the event and every month has a different theme...like German beers, stouts, or maybe only beers from a specific brewery. It's always a great time and you get introduced to some amazing beers. The food at Goodbar is all deep fried but they have a good variety of snacks as well as a few unique ones to keep it interesting. The wings are the best in the city!!! When people come in from out of town and they want wings, I take them here. Besides the normal, hot-medium-mild flavors they have about 10 specialty sauces that are nothing short of amazing. I've been a patron of Goodbar for about 3 years now. Recently I've become more of a regular as they have my favorite hobby, karaoke, every Wednesday night in the upstairs section of the bar. The few times I've gone on other days of the week there had been live music. It's definitely a divey "college" bar. The clientele are mostly young-mid 20's. They have a great draft beer selection and a craft brew club. The staff as long as I've been going there have always been friendly. On busy nights they can feel rushed and uninterested in the customers but that's to be expected when you're serving 20 demanding people at the same time every hour.. Lol. I've never had an issue with the staff, service, nor the drinks. Everyone knows what they're doing and do it well. read more

Been going to Goodbar for as long as I've been able to legally drink. It's got divey vibes, but that's its character. The bar is approachable as soon as you walk in. There's a decent amount of tables and seating around the bar. The bathrooms are toward the back. They're dim lit and kept pretty clean compared to some Buffalo dive bars. On the opposite side of the place from the bar you'll find a few dart boards and a pool table. There's a sheltered outdoor space for smoking. Food is pretty decent there. They're known for having good wings, haven't tried anything else. Really appreciate their selection of beer. Prices are listed on screens so you know what you're paying before ordering. Occasionally bands play there. Sometimes there's a cover, sometimes not. Their website lists which bands are playing and when. read more

Came here for a coworker's going away happy hour and the place was decent. Liked that they had a massive selection on beer either on tap or bottled. Another thing that was nice was the complementary food for happy hour which consisted of: a veggie tray, cheese pepperoni and crackers, popper, pizza rolls and wings, this was a pleasant surprise. Another thing Mister Goodbar has going for them is the size, there was space, if there's one thing I hate when I go to a bar is people standing on top of me. The main thing that I didn't like about this place was the blasting music, I don't mind music on the louder side, but I would like to be able to hear the person that I am trying to have a conversation with. Honestly one of my favorite bars in Buffalo. Who can beat free happy hour apps? Their menu is simplistic and ALL fried so don't come here on a diet or expect anything fancy. That said, it is always perfectly crispy and delicious. Make sure to get the tots, fried pepperoni, and wings. Great beer selection whether you want something good or cheap. The best part for me is that they are not trying to be anything they aren't- they are a dive bar through and through and make no apologies for that. Probably my favorite bar in Buffalo, NY. The people who work there are great, from the bouncers to the bar backs. Everyone there loves to talk sports, and can talk for minutes or hours. The place has over 30 beers on tap and have one of the best selections in Buffalo if not THE best. One Wednesday night a month the owner has a beer club with a different theme every month. It does cost 25.00 but you drink for 3 hours and they also provide some snacks as well at the end. It's worth the price, you get more beer than $25 that's for sure. The open mic comedy they have is also great. You'll find a lot of local funny people who test out their material upstairs to the crowd and their peers. If you like a good laugh, this is a great place to go for it. It helps when there's not many places in Buffalo to get them too. Overall, you're spending a lot less money here than most bars in Buffalo, and the place gets packed. The bartenders do a lot of great work, and will pour you a nice one, just remember to tip well too these guys deserve it more than anyone else in Buffalo! read more

Sam is literally the rudest bartender I've EVER had in buffalo. My friend and I went here at around 9 pm, both wearing heels, and he refused to serve my friend because she tripped over their shitty sticky floor, claimed she was "stumbling." Once we ordered food, and i was served a drink, my friend attempted to get served a drink and they refused to serve her (mind you i was 20x more drunk than her). One of the most relaxed bars in Buffalo. It is a big Buffalo State College bar, but you can meet up with a group of friends and have some amazing beers. All the bartenders are friendly and quick on their feet and can make great recommendations. They have live bands often and comedy upstairs. Patio in the front, pool tables, and some dart boards. Do not worry about what you are wearing, you can go in dressed right after work from the office or just getting done working on your car. I can come in dressed in sweats and not feel out of place because I feel like it's a judgment free zone with cool people and cool bartenders and it's always nice to have a place like that in the neighborhood. They have dartboards and pool tables, plenty of seating and lots of televisions. It's divey, I mean don't expect to be wowed with elegance here because it's not that kind of place. Great patio, spacious bar, pool tables, dart boards and a stage for live music and other events. All that is great but what makes Goodbar one of my favorite bars is their amazing tap beer selection - huge and varied, featuring many craft brews including local breweries. The prices are spot on - the same beer that costs $8 at a "nicer" bar down the street will cost you half that at Goodbar. My bill for two craft beers (including the pricey Ommegang) came to $8.50. My friend drank 4 craft beers for under $20. Not sure what type of beer you want? The bartenders are friendly and willing to let you sample the beer. Of interest: they have a beer club. You pay a certain amount and once a month you come in for a tasting event usually with free food pairings. I hope this bar always remains a dive bar - it's one of its charms. read more

When I think of Mister Goodbar, I always think of a time about 3 years ago when I wandered in around dinner time. The place was pretty dead and there was not yet a bouncer at the door. I proceeded to the bar and asked for an order of chicken fingers. The bar tender gave me his best tough guy look and sternly asked for my ID. I guess I looked kind of young to be in a bar ordering chicken fingers by myself. I suppose this was a compliment. But yeah, what everyone else said - this is a dive bar BUT with a very good beer selection. Years ago, Goodbar is where I began to explore beers beyond the standard bottles. Their bar food is your typical fryer food although always good as far as fryer food goes. The bartenders are usually pretty cool. There is a fair amount of space for accommodating groups and when the weather is nice, there is a patio. Pool tables and dart boards are also available. So it's an all around good choice for just casually hanging out. However, it can get pretty loud when it's busy and there can be some rowdier crowds. It's hit or miss in that regard.
