One of the worst boba places I've tried. Popcorn chicken (1/5) - soggy, not flavorful, and doesn't include basils. Although, pretty big portion. Matcha egg puff (4/5) - arrived soggy, but the flavor was good and not too sweet. Black Milk Tea (1/5) - tasted floral and artificial. Amber Milk (1/5) - tasted watered down and artificial. Boba (3/5) - chewy, but not fresh. Overall, we were not impressed with this place and can not recommend it. To note, we ordered delivery and the egg puff could have been packaged better. Also, they forgot to include straws so we ended up trying to use a spoon to get the boba but it wasn't the same and gave up after the second bite. Been here a few times, and it's not really what some people think it's all cracked up to be. Food is rather overpriced. They have a selection of different milk teas and smoothies, as well as some fried snacks. I don't like boba or milk tea so I can't speak to those, but the smoothies are essentially the same as packaged store-bought stuff. Not really sure why they offered the fried stuff, but it's okay. I've had the popcorn chicken, which is basically an upgrade on McNuggets but cost a lot more. There's really not much parking around, which I guess is typical for Piedmont Ave., but it's harder to swallow when the food is subpar. read more

Alright time for an updated review. I was able to spend a little more time here and have a MUCHHHH more accurate review of this place. So usually with boba spots, at least for me, it's just in and out. Walk in, order, get tha goods, and we out. Takes about 15 minutes. This time however, I had time to kill and had my school work with me so I decided to bust out the iPad and books to look studious and show off. So I sat there for a while, which was bad for the studying I had to get done, but good for the review (I do it for y'all). Was starving cause my brain needed some fuel so I ordered a calamari and popcorn chicken snack, my favorite thing to get here good lord. My mouth is salivating as I think about the basket that was handed to me. Perfect spice level, super crispy, and well cooked. Just delicious. I have to stay away from Green Bubble because of those two items, I legitimately think I would order it every single time. Oh and a lil secret for y'all cause I love you is that they DO have sweet and sour dipping sauce, but you gotta ask. Didn't get a drink this time but I have gotten drinks before and of the ones I have tried I especially like the mango milk tea, the regular milk tea aka classic bubble aka the classic aka if your classic milk tea isn't good then nothing else will be good, peach passion, and taro milk tea. Oh! I have also tried their egg puff and that's also good too if you are craving a sweet pastry. Also, they have a macaroon ice cream sandwich thing in the corner now and that's another source of glucose if ya wanna get cuhraaaazy with the sweets that night. I believe I posted pics of the flavors that they had that day. On to the service. You see a lot while sitting quietly in a boba shop. I saw a lot of foot traffic into the store that night and I was there for about 2 hours. What I noticed was how quickly the staff worked without rest. They were constantly moving and filling orders, which I appreciate. You would think that because they are so busy, a customer might catch some attitude or poor service. False! I watched as the cashier (a girl with dyed hair in a bun) handled every customer with a smile and great service. There is a pic of her I think in my pictures (No I am not a creep I just noticed her effort and as the cashier she is the first person people interact wit---wait why am I explaining myself) Anyways, I watched as she took every order and even went into the back to help out with drinks and serving food. What a worker! It can get quite crowded as I said before, peak hours are probably 3-5PM and 8-9PM. Also, there is no lot for parking so you have to find street parking which can be super annoying. Despite walking in and seeing the floor being dirty, the bathroom slightly dirty, and a help wanted sign outside of the shop, the drinks here are excellent. Upon arriving, you will see a large board of choices from Juice, to milk tea, to smoothies, The tea is on the lighter side but still flavorful and boba here are nice, soft, and chewy. Excellent. There is free wifi here, and not surprisingly the password is the name of the shop. The decor on the furniture are those Ikea loud color style furnishing that no one wants, but seats very comfortably. Good here for small groups because there is just not enough seating here. Mr Green Bubble is my go-to boba place in Oakland! They are doing a great job working through COVID. Everyone is hardworking and friendly. I come here 4-5 times a week and I have never seen a worker without a mask. The drinks themselves are so good! My favorite is Jasmine with boba, but there are endless options. I also really like their Oreo milk tea with boba when I'm craving something pretty sweet. The consistency of the tapioca pearls is perfect. They are squishy and sweet and so yummy. Picked up tea today -- the ordering process was simple besides needing to manually enter my CC instead of using my auto fill (if you use auto fill you won't be able to complete the transaction). Arrived to pick up my tea and I see one of the employees working *without* a mask on (see photo)! Why go through all the trouble of making customers order online so that the process is contactless when your employee isn't wearing the appropriate face covering! Updating my review to reflect my most recent Mr Green Bubble experience. I got the peach oolong milk tea, 25% sweet, with agar pearls. It was totally something I'd get again, although I'll say that the tea flavor was much less pronounced than in other oolongs I've tried. My mainstay is the dark roasted oolong, 25% sweet, with agar pearls. Minus one star because the interior customer areas are usually sticky and littered with napkins. I get that kids come in from all the neighborhood schools and don't exactly scrub up after themselves, but I'd rather wait a bit longer for my drink if it means Mr Green Bubble could have an employee on cleaning duty more often. read more

This is probably hands down my favorite boba place in north oakland. They have a decently spiced fried chicken and the new waffle fries are on point! The boba is also great! No matter what kind of mood i am in or how bad my girl friend and I got into an argument this boba defeats all. Lines are usually bad on the weekends and after school gets out. I suggest adding red bean, pudding, and boba to your drinks. Came here since I saw them post a photo on Facebook about how they're having BOGO until December 31st. I've always seen the place when I've gone to Fentons so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to try the place. It was PACKED though, and they ask you to close the door since the AC is on, so you might have to wait outside if the line is too long. The place itself is super clean and modern, which I like. They have board games in the back near where you pick up tea which is a nice touch. When you look at the wall they have tons of options, and in my opinion it's waaaay too many. The menu also has tons of fried options and egg puffs which looked tasty, but we just had dinner so we decided to pass. TIP: They have a rewards program you can sign up for at the cash register where you can get a free topping. We ended up getting a regular bubble milk tea w/boba (warm) and regular taro milk tea w/boba (cold). They're really quick in service since we got our drink in less than 5 minutes, but I felt that the flavors were subpar. I was even thinking about getting my bubble milk tea drink with 50% less sugar and i'm glad I didn't since it tasted bland. It's great that it has more of a tea flavor than something powdered, but something tasted off for me. However, the boba was new and was nice and chewy (still not as sweet as i'd like). Meh. I've tried many other milk tea places and I wasn't that impressed. Maybe it's just me as there was a huge line when my bf and I visited. I found that the milk tea was very watered down. I ordered a caramel milk tea and didn't even taste a hint of caramel. Also, I felt that the cashier was in such have a rush, probably because of the line, and wasn't paying that much attention as I had to repeat my order. I feel bad for my bf who's lactose intolerant. I was in such a rush to order I forgot to order soy milk. But don't you worry, we always carry some lactaid pills. Lol. There are quite a lot of seating and they have also have board games available. Went here with my friend to celebrate her bday and just chill. Got a Thai tea for $2.65 with boba already included! Great price. It was a small size, but still filled me up. Tasted yummy too. We also sat there for over an hour just chatting and they never asked us to leave. That was very nice for us. This spot is truly a hit or miss, I came on days where service and food were good, and when they were terrible. The drinks I have no problem with, always on time and flavorful. The popcorn chicken tends to be a surprise. Only bummer is that we asked for spicy level 1s on all our items and our tofu was definitely way more spicy than everything else, and too spicy for my friend. Not sure if maybe orders got mixed up? If you're planning to STAY and enjoy your beverage, that's where the 3-star experience comes in. They really need to spruce this place up and give the ambiance some TLC. The benches have massively peeling upholstery, and the tables need to be wiped down more regularly. They play loud music with... wait for the naggy old lady comment... explicit lyrics, which made me laugh because there were so many kids & families coming in while the F-bomb was blasting on the stereo. Was this a one-off thing? I don't know, but I noticed it, and I don't even have kids! Back to the tea: good stuff! I DIG THIS PLACE 100%! I feel their milk tea drinks are made with good quality stuff. So far, I've had the caramel , Earl Grey, and honeydew. All with boba, and let me tell you. The caramel smelled like caramel, the Earl Grey smelled like black tea, and the honeydew smelled like, well honeydew! The way it should be! Only wish they had snozzberries! All great tasting, and not overly sweet, just the way I like. No issues with the boba every time I've tried! Although I live sort of far from Oakland, sometimes just making the trek out here is just worth it! ~ I've also tried the takoyaki (with and without the wasabi mayo). Not bad, but not as great as the ones off the street in Osaka =) They come in a small cup with skewers. Popcorn chicken was made fried just right too. Maybe, I came at a bad time or just ordered the wrong flavor, but I was disappointed with the boba here. While they use real tea leaves, they also use a lot of powders. I could not taste any taro in my taro green milk tea! The worst part, however, was that the boba pearls had a very weird "inky" or "metallic" taste to them. I'm not sure what it was, but it overshadowed the decent taste of the green milk tea. I do have to give props where props are due and Mr Green Bubble is open till midnight on Saturdays. Downgrading this place to 1 star, and if you read my other post raving about how great this place is, you KNOW something went wrong. I've been a regular at this place right when it opened. I always came in with Kevin W. to study for our exams (because obv nothing gets done when you're at home). I never minded that the workers NEVER seemed to remember us or greet us with familiarity. Even though we came practically every other day! But the quality of the milk tea was great, the consistency of the boba was delicious, and OH MY the popcorn chicken was overflowing from the bag. We haven't been coming as much recently, because we've spent WAY too much money on their popcorn chicken combos. But alas, midterm on wednesday that we hadn't studied for yet, so more popcorn chicken combos for us! This place has gotten SUPER popular. I don't mind so much, except when there aren't any seats! But we've always managed to grab a table, so it's fine. The new workers have actually gotten a handle on their tea making skills now. The Hojicha I got last night wasn't too shabby. However, their popcorn chicken no longer overflows the bag. We ordered it 2 times to make sure it wasn't a fluke. They've decided to cut back on quantity, to save on cost probably. They do still give a lot though. So why the 1 star? I can handle the popularity (I don't mind sharing a nice boba joint with others). I can handle the not-overflowing-bag of popcorn chicken (cut costs instead of raising prices, I'm an Econ major). BUT! One of the workers came over to my table and RUDELY proclaimed, "We're closed now, so CLEAN UP." Mr. Green Bubble is fast becoming one of my top milk tea places. All teas I've tried so far, just hits my sweet spot. Bubble, Jasmine, and Matcha Green Tea all solid so far, natural tea flavor with just the right sweetness and creaminess. Also their grass jelly and pearls have a slight sweet note, which tends to sing to me. ShareTea, Gong Cha and T4 round out my top 4. Even the popcorn chicken is not bad here, crisp thigh pieces, slightly spicy and lots of fried basil. I dislike more versions than I like, so that's saying something. And for under $5, the bag is quite splittable, so stretch that 5 spot over here. But what I really like about this location, is that it has more space than other shops. I've never sat in, but when waiting for your order, it isn't quite the clusterfuck. Plus it seems pretty well maintained/clean. And when I get my drink to go for a stroll, I can gawk at the insane zoo that is Fenton's across the street. Part of my peace is to watch the madness from afar. read more
