We've worked with Mr. Handyman on a couple of projects now. First and foremost, I appreciate their booking process and thorough communications. This can often be one of the hardest parts about hiring a contractor. We have hired them to install a new door sweep on our historic front door, fix the wood/mounting for our kitchen floor and seal up some windows. The first guy from their team who "fixed" the kitchen floor ended up making it worse and I'll admit that we were quite frustrated. Fortunately, we shared our concerns and they sent someone new to properly fix it. Real wood floors are not cheap! We've hired them for another upcoming project that we could realistically do ourselves but with limited time and how easy it is to book them, we decided to push the "easy" button again. read more

I called these guys and set an appointment to have some roof fascia repaired that was damaged after a storm. They set an appointment and told me to ensure someone would be home. They said they would repair it if we accepted the estimate for the work. The day came and they canceled because they were stuck at another job. Rescheduled for a few days later and when that day came they called to cancel again. My wife asked if they could at least come out and provide an estimate because we didn't want to have to wait around to be there on another day and have them cancel. The guy came out and provided an estimate. I accepted it and was told they would reach out to schedule the work. Three weeks later and no one ever reached out, no one responded to messages. I was originally concerned about the $85 charge to give a quote, but the quote was so competitive with pricing that it didn't end up making a difference. Since Aric did the work, we didn't have to pay the $85. He was polite, very professional, and he did an overall great job. I typically don't leave reviews, however, Mr. handyman's customer service was so fantastic that I felt the need to leave a review. I had two sets of bifold doors with special hardware that needed to be installed in my brand new home. Nick, my first technician was punctual, courteous, and skilled. I felt completely confident that he would be able to get the work done and to leave him at my home while I went to work. He called roughly near the end of his work to ask that I would come back to determine knob placement performed. Nick performed Good solid work and left my house in great condition. However, I was really unhappy about one set of doors that had a very large floor clearance. This was partly due to the special hardware and shortened doors not specified by the vendor. When I went in to pay for the work the Mr. Handyman team could tell I was unsatisfied with the results. James, the manager followed up another day to do some custom work to fix the issue. We needed a patio screen door replaced quickly and Mr. Handyman was able to save the day. It was simple to schedule an appointment, and Don showed up on time. He was polite and efficient, and had a new door installed in under an hour. I would absolutely use this service again, as neither my husband nor I are handy people. read more

Calling Mr. Handyman was a big mistake. A technician from the company arrived at my house to give me a quote to fix the creaking floor in two adjoining rooms and to paint the trim in one of the rooms. I knew there was an $86 fee if the guy came out and I didn't hire him after the quote. The technician claimed the solution was to pull up the carpet and add nails to stabilize the floors. He would also paint the trim. Altogether, the cost was $650 plus $18 for his supplies. I agreed to the price and he started working. After adding nails to one room, the technician realized his solution didn't fix anything. I was still on the hook for $250 for the room he "completed" (plus the $18 for the supplies). He quickly came up with a new plan that would involve removing the drywall between the two rooms and fixing where the wall met the floor. The new price (not including the $250+$18) was $1600. That price also DIDN'T include painting the trim (which would be $150) or adding the popcorn finish on the new drywall to match the rest of the room. I was expected to do that later on my own and then paint the wall again. Clearly, I wasn't happy. After all, $1600 seemed steep plus I wasn't sure about his plan to remove drywall and send me to the store for paint. I told him no. Here's the shady part. This NEW quote (same day) came with a NEW $86 penalty if I didn't hire him on the spot to do the job. In the end, he charged me $354 (250 to put down a few nails in one room + 86 for the penalty + 18 for supplies). As he left, he claimed if I hired him to do the other jobs he gave "unofficial" quotes for, that he'd do his darndest to get that $86 fee back for me but don't tell his boss, wink, wink. When I complained to his company about the fee, the owner claimed the $86 was part of the labor costs. I don't know if he was gaslighting me or his technician lied to him, but his explanation flat-out contradicted what Ken told me at my house. Plus, the math doesn't add up. 250+250+150=650 (the original quote minus that $18 for "supplies"). Where did the $86 amount come from if it wasn't the fee. Seemed shady. The owner DID schedule to come to my house later in the week to see if the problem was fixable. However, I contacted my insurance broker who got me in touch with another handyman. This other guy came over and said he could fix the creaking floors and paint the trim for a hundred dollars. Clearly, I preferred that to more shenanigans. Two days later, my floors didn't creak and all without opening up the drywall or tearing up the carpet. Getting my problem fixed for only $100 reduced some of the sting from the money I wasted by calling Mr. Handyman. read more

The old light was off center from the center of the room and Mr Handyman was able to utilize a mounting board of sorts to slide it to the center and cover up the existing off center hole.
