I have been wanting to try this place for a long time. Everybody kept saying how good it was but we just hadn't gotten around to it. We just bought a camper at a permanent spot down here. The service wasn't great the lady wasn't too kind. They had cold food on the warmer that was suppose to be hot! I had to tell the lady to feel the food and told her it's cold and needs to be replaced it was barbecue ribs. Food was disappointing. The sweet/sour pork was so hard you couldn't cut or bite through and the wings were dry and yellowish. They offer bowls (which we didn't get) and that may have been a better choice. The sushi was ok. The water was good. Declining. Was once OK. Food freshness is the big problem. It used to be OK, and occasionally decent. There's still a wide variety, it's just that they're having a problem keeping it fresh, which narrows your selection. The selections are wide, and the salad bar is fresher than the rest. The hibachi ingredients are fresh. The sushi variety is pretty slim and are the less expensive selections. No nigri sushi. No sashimi. Tiny rolls. We're not motivated to return; there are just too many other good pan-Asian restaurants in Bloomington. It's probably good if you want to gorge, rather than have fun variety. Great experience! Went about 8:00 and they were still stocked. The food was amazing. The staff were very nice and made sure we had full refills. It's nice on the inside and the food keeps you warm. The food was just absolutely trash. Basically everything that didn't have "steam" was cold and just horrible. The fried wonton chips (I believe) and the cookies were also stale! The service also sucked too. There was this waiter that came around to get the plates which was normal. Later the waiter gives us the check as "it" kind of never returned (assuming they will come and get it once the card is placed). I try to look and see where this waiter is and I see that the waiter is sitting in a separate area on "its" phone! I got food poisoning at this restaurant on Tuesday and have reported it to the health department.

All food was cool. It was old and tough. Person who was taking food to the buffet had a 3 tier cart had trays of food on the bottom , just inches from the floor. . . We I asked for fresh Crispy Chicken, she said too much in tray. I was not sure what the dark chunks were---maybe mushrooms? Peanut butter chicken was cold. Could not get a drink refill. This used to be our go to place. Place is declining quickly. So sad. Waste of $34. read more

I've been coming into Mr Hibachi for years. Staff is all really helpful and attentive despite serving huge tables. I really like the buffet style for only around $15 for all you can eat lunch. My favorite things to get are the sushi, dumplings, and shrimps of all kind! It's awesome how much assortment they have, my entirely full plate didn't even have 1 of everything on it. Waitresses demand more money for their tip. They do it to everyone everytime I'm there. I left a $7. It was just me and my mother. My mother left a tip on her card (I don't know how much) but two women can up and one of them said "I did more work and only $7???" She had her hand extended out to me like she was asking for more money with out having to say it. It was embarrassing so I gave her more money. All I had was a 5 and 20s so I left her with another 5 so she got a $12 for one person. I didn't get a refill and she took my plate off the table one time. So a $12 tip for bringing me one drink and removing one plate from me when I was finished. We went during lunch so I tipped her just about as much as I paid to eat there. ^That was only one experience. Sadly, this visit was very disappointing. In the past it's been a decent place to eat but has been declining. We visited 3pm June 16, 2024, Father's Day Sunday and it was not at all busy. Of course prices are higher on Sunday, that we expected. Hot food was hot, but most of the chicken and beef dishes were tough and chewy. General Tsaos had no spicy heat at all. The peanut chicken, chicken and brocolli and hot and sour soup were good. The rest was very disappointing. Two young girls at the door completely ignored us when we walked in. Eventually a lady who was eating in the side room seated us because the servers obviously weren't going to. Fortunately she also got our water because the rest of the time there we were offered not one refill of water. We were ignored. $44 with tax, horrible non-existent service, and only passable food. I usually steer clear of Chinese food buffets as I have bad memories of the barely-edible, but cheap one I frequented during my graduate student days and the many mediocre ones that seem to be everywhere. I went to this one today as I was taking an IUB student out to lunch who was in the mood for Chinese, and a colleague had recommended this place as being pretty decent and far above other buffets. Honestly, it was quite good for a $12.95 buffet. The sushi rolls were made at 7PM the night before based on the sign, so I stuck to the California and smoked salmon based rolls, and they were quite good. Around 1PM they were making some new sushi, so they do seem to work to keep it fresh. The hot and sour soup was pretty mild, but good. The fried appetizers were fresh, crisp and not too greasy. I liked the fried zucchini and spring rolls best. The entrees were classics with heavy emphasis on fried selections, but there were a few good non-fried options. The salad and fruit bars were quite good, and the dessert selection was good as well. They do seem to work hard to ensure food on the buffet doesn't sit out too long and stays hot or cold as appropriate. I saw someone checking food with a thermometer which is always a good sign at buffets. This is a great spot to take a hungry college student and I agree with my colleague; it is much better than the typical buffet. Added bonus- they have a parking lot, so no need to hunt for street parking. read more

I love buffets and this one is above average. Coming from California, the price is reasonable, but I imagine this is expensive by Indiana standards. There is an ample variety present. They do indeed have the hibachi, lots of sushi, many different soups (I didn't try any, but they looked and smelled good) and plenty of other options. There arn't as many vegetable dishes. There is meat which you can carve yourself. The fried shrimp is great, but I recommend the bacon wrapped kind. Their general tso's is kind of disappointing. Food is overall fresh and delicious, but maybe a bit greasy. They have a variety of dessert options, too. There is a lot of fresh fruit and ice cream cups. The service is OK. They do give you the bill fairly quickly, but they don't hurry you to leave. One of the better Chinese food buffets out there. I am comparing to buffets in California, Texas, and NYC. read more

UPDATE!!!! Mr Hibachi now offers HotPot!!! This is huge! And they are FANTASTIC with their HotPot offering! My wife and I went the other night (May 18th) and we were blown away! There is a lot to offer, and, at $25/person, you get the HotPot, full access to the buffet, Hibachi grill AND the sushi! We have been to several HotPot locations, and we feel this is the very best that we've been too, even beating Homie on Walnut! Look into this! You'll LOVE it! I love this place. It's pretty big inside with a lot to choose from. They have salad, soup, hot food, a grille and sushi bar as well as desserts. Price isn't bad, considering and it's always consistent. I'd like to see a bit more variety on chicken as when I go, it's usually general tso, orange or peanut chicken. Oh, peanut chicken is my absolute favorite, by the way! Other than sliding on the slick floor, everything was great. The steam from the buffet tables ensured the food is kept at the proper temperatures. They should probably invest in floor mats or non skid surfaces around the buffet tables. Otherwise great variety and plenty to choose from. read more

Do not go here. The food is terrible. Went here for lunch buffet. Food tasted warmed over from previous day. We have not been here for five or six years and decided to give it one more chance. Bad decision. And on top of that the kitchen door was open and I looked back in the kitchen and there was this man dragging food out of something that kind of looked like a concrete mixer and he was dragging it out with his bare hands and putting it into a gigantic tub and then Patting the food down with his bare hands once he got it in the tub. I am part of a group that, until yesterday, met every Friday at Mr. Hibachi. We always have a speaker, presenting on issues of the day. Not any more. We lost the private room we had before, and every time I have been there the room where we used to be has been empty. The group was willing to try to work with it. We were moved into a corner, and had we been allowed that space to ourselves, we would have been fine. The restaurant was determined to seat people with us, when there was plenty of space elsewhere. Staff has become less and less accommodating to the point of being near belligerent. How much money have MC3 people poured into Mr. Hibachi since 2012? We meet almost every week. It's a guaranteed almost 10-15 (or more) meals purchased every week for 7 years. They're tossing away a huge amount of money here. It makes me wonder if there is a political bias that is motivating this. I'll probably never have a reason to go to Mr. Hibachi again - not because I am intentionally boycotting them but it's just not one of the places I go unless I am going to the Friday lunch group.
