I am part of a group that, until yesterday, met every Friday at Mr. Hibachi. We always have a speaker, presenting on issues of the day. Not any more. We lost the private room we had before, and every time I have been there the room where we used to be has been empty. The group was willing to try to work with it. We were moved into a corner, and had we been allowed that space to ourselves, we would have been fine. The restaurant was determined to seat people with us, when there was plenty of space elsewhere. Staff has become less and less accommodating to the point of being near belligerent. How much money have MC3 people poured into Mr. Hibachi since 2012? We meet almost every week. It's a guaranteed almost 10-15 (or more) meals purchased every week for 7 years. They're tossing away a huge amount of money here. It makes me wonder if there is a political bias that is motivating this. I'll probably never have a reason to go to Mr. Hibachi again - not because I am intentionally boycotting them but it's just not one of the places I go unless I am going to the Friday lunch group. My money goes elsewhere now. They clearly don't want me or my friends there, so I will give them what they want. read more

Food is good. Price is right. It a standard buffet. The hibachi bar is very slim picking. But the buffet has plenty to choose from.

Food was cold and hardly ever replaced. The waitress did a good job getting our drinks but the hibachi cook didn't do a very good job. It took 5 minutes for him to come out of the kitchen to the grill and then when he did coke out he left my food unattended on the grill for another 2 minutes before returning. read more

The first meal in Indy, the first night I fell in love with Bloomington! Pros: food variety, fruit was fresh, all you can eat... so nothing to pick about food!!! Cons: basically self-service and the service was not prompt enough when we asked for the check. How I wish the village I live in could have a place serving Asian Buffet. I have been here multiple times and for a Chinese buffet, this place gets 5 stars. Food is fresh, variety is huge, place is clean, temperature is good and for the price I feel that this place is one of my favorite lunch places. Servers can be quite chatty amongst themselves but perhaps this is part of the atmosphere since this place is bustling. Consistency on the taste can sometimes be a little erratic. I have sometimes found some dishes too salty and other times it's been good. I won't dock off any stars here since every time I leave this place happy and satisfied. This is by far the best Chinese buffet in town and best American Chinese food place too. Be sure to look out for coupons in the mail pak magazine and they would gladly take expired coupons, which is great customer service and this keeps customers like me coming back! read more

So I've been here before, and it was ok, but for some reason, this visit seemed somewhat less desirable than my previous visit. I arrived just after they opened for the day. Some of the sushi appeared to be leftover from the night before; however, more sushi was being prepared. I used to live at Reserve on Third, which is an apartment complex right next to Mr. Hibachi. I've been inside here quite a few times and ordered delivery through grubhub. Overall, it's a pretty good Americanized Chinese buffet. Don't expect anything authentic, but if you're in the mood for General tso, beef and broccoli, orange chicken, etc. this place is legit. It's pretty big and a decent amount of options. There's also a selection of sushi to choose from. It's probably a little bit pricier than other Chinese buffets in town but I'd say the price is worth it. I've never had a bad experience with service here. When I've ordered Mr. Hibachi from grubhub, they have some awesome deals for delivery. You can get 1 side and 3 entrees for $10, 1 side and 2 entrees for $8, and 1 side and 1 entree for $7. Mind you, the entrees they include in your meal are kinda small while you get a bunch of rice (or whatever side you choose), but is still a lot of food and I always have leftovers. Nothing sits out forever on the steam table getting old. It is always fresh. There is a raw table and you make a plate and they stir fry it fresh. Crab legs frog legs. Endless favorites. Spanakopita. Yes, at a Chinese buffet. Puff pastry Philly cheese steak. Crab Rangoon. So much variety. There something for everyone. General Tso, chicken a hundred ways. Big tray of salmon. Roast beef here tonight. 7.99 lunch. 11.99 dinner. Can't beat it. I don't get sick after this Chinese food. I was here a week and came here twice. read more

Our family always comes to this location. We usually enjoy the food. Today the food was dried out the staff was loud as to be expected. From the very moment we entered the building we had nothing but bad experiences! 3 employees were talking and on their phones when we arrived. Instead of greeting us and maybe even seating is they acknowledged us and continued talking. We waited 5-6minutes before someone came from the back to seat us. I forgot to mention they weren't even busy. After we got seated 4 staff members began to argue in their native language right next to us and everyone in the restaurant was looking. I love the Buffett at Mr. Hibachi, and always enjoy my meal whenever I go. However, the takeout I received today was not up to the standards of this restaurant. Part of my order was incorrect, and my partners meal was not enjoyable at all. His noodles were bland and oily, and the chicken tasted rather fishy, which leads me to believe that the Chicken was cooked in the same oil as the seafood is. I don't mean to sound harsh, but I really expect more from this establishment. read more

Undeniably the tastiest hibachi buffet that I have ever been to. From looking at the outside of the building, you most likely wouldn't expect what you're about to walk into. Very nice and clean atmosphere to be in. Staff is friendly and seats you very quickly. Mr. Hibachi is a very busy place (because it is literally amazing) so you should expect a crowd, especially at prime lunch and dinner times. Price isn't bad for all of the different food options offered. In the food aspect, there is a wide variety of sushi (it's delicious), a hibachi grill, fresh fruit, tons of different hot and cold food options, desserts, and so much more. I one hundred percent recommend this buffet if you're looking for some good asian food! read more

Decided to give them one more chance...BAD decision. The steam tables are so high you get steam burns getting food. And, still, the food was luke warm at best. Some people give Mr. Hibachi a bad rap, but I've enjoyed this place for years. The food is of a consistent quality, the restaurant is clean and well stocked. The sushi is tasty and plentiful, and the appetizers are fresh and flavorful. Sure, it's Americanized Chinese food, but the average American wouldn't really know what to expect from authentic Chinese food. Prices are reasonable, and you'll never leave hungry. Worst Experience don't go there! We were going through town while traveling and decided to stop for dinner. I asked the waitress if drinks were included or if they cost extra and she said "no cost extra" then we received our bill there was 2 drink charges on there so I talked to the manager and all she did was argue it doesn't matter what waitress say that there is a sign on every table about drink prices. I refused to pay it. So they took the drinks off our ticket and took our drinks off the table! WHAT??? Also EVERYTHING was sweet or had no flavor On our way out the manager was ticked and said I was the first complaint she has ever had in the 10 year she worked there... lol no according to the reviews everywhere. I'm a big fan of this place. I think it's the best Chinese buffet in Bloomington by far. It is a little off the beaten path (for those of us centered around the university), but it's worth the trip. The variety of food in the buffet is unmatched in my opinion. It's a nice touch that there actually is hibachi (included in the price) if you want it. I tend to go for whatever else is around. I haven't had any complaints about the food. It's your standard Chinese buffet cuisine--incredibly unhealthy for you but oh-so-delicious. I found the egg rolls to be better than some of the other buffets in town. Its price is probably the best part. It really isn't that much more than some of the buffets in town (actually cheaper compared to some). It's cheaper during lunch time (ends at 3) and definitely a steal. Though more expensive in dinner, I still think it's well worth your money if you get several plates. The service is generally decent. They clean empty plates quickly and for the most part they don't get in the way of your conversation with family/friends. Courteous and polite (most of the time). Mr. Hibachi buffet was pretty good. All the food was warm/hot with the exception of the fish. The fried fish, both regular and peanut butter, were a bit on the cold side. Having said that - they were still good. Three things really impressed us, 1 - the crab rangoon had so much cheese, it literally explodes, 2 - the soups were delicious (my opinion) and hot. The green onion toppings are a nice touch, 3 - the number of buffet tables were more than sufficient. We were there at lunch, I hear dinner has lobster. Been here a few times. It's good, but not great. Mr. Hibachi is definitely taking advantage of the new buffet paradigm where they offer sushi as well as non-Chinese fare like roast beef, cheese sticks, etc. There's a huge range food, so if you have picky eaters or have a large group this is a fairly good place to ensure everyone finds something they'll like. It suffers from the usual buffet disadvantages...loads of MSG, food quality depending on how much turnover there is. There's definitely better Chinese and Sushi to be had, but for a huge buffet it's not a bad choice. On a side note; being a college town, there's a definite delineation between "townies" and folks here just for the University. This is my go-to weekend place. Their buffet offerings are plentiful, and the price is right (I think it's only $8ish most days). Despite the ho-hum appearance of the exterior, it's actually really nice on the inside - one of the better decorated Chinese buffets I've visited. The staff are friendly, too. Obviously, Mr. Hibachi doesn't hold a candle to the ethnic spots on 4th Street, but it's a good option for large groups who want a lot of food. Come hungry! read more

Visited the restaurant a few weeks ago for lunch and found the entrees to be less than hot. Tried again this week and they were cold. Cold soup and cold pepper steak aren't a good combination. Tried most of the meat entrees and all the same. I believe they open at 11 I was there at noon. Before we even moved to Bloomington, I actually had a couple of job interviews at IU. Being curious about Bloomington, and always looking for good, authentic Chinese food (I lived in China in high school, my dad is married to a Chinese woman and he himself cooks excellent Chinese food), I asked a Chinese woman at an interview what her favorite Chinese place was. I realize now that may have been construed as a bit racist, but I was genuinely curious what she thought and, in the interview, I realized I didn't want the job anyway. But, maybe out of spite for that, she suggested this place. Now having spent time in town, I know that this is very far from the best Chinese place in town. I mean, they have decent Chinese-American food, but that's not why I come here. My time to come is Saturday for lunch, at about 11:30. Not because I'm that kind of freak about habitual eating (it's only about once a month we come), but because Saturday offers the same $7.50 buffet that the weekdays do, and getting there later means more of a crowd, and earlier means that not as much food is out. I've figured this out over time. Included in that $7.50 price tag are sushi and hibachi. I could not give less of a crap about the hibachi, but that sushi is actually the main reason I come here as often as I do. I mean, it's all you can eat, and it's halfway decent. They have several variations on California rolls, including a rainbow with slivers of fish on top, a smoked salmon (gross) Philly, tofu skin, and the occasional eel. I've also seen some tempura rolls on the line before. The wasabi is fresh though. I could eat nothing but this mediocre sushi and feel like I've gotten an excellent deal. For the other food, they do actually have some reasonably healthy, non-fried options, but a lot of it is the cheap Golden Corral variety, but with an Asian twist. They have some really awful kimchi in the salad bar section, for instance. The salad bar, overall, is pretty bad: iceberg, cheap pasta salad, wilted spinach, that horrible pudding that comes in cans... And they also have a smelly seafood tray that I've never been able to brave. And I should mention that their desserts are awful. I tend to make the mistake of getting some because, honestly, they look SO good. But you actually eat them, and they're awful. It's weird, but it stems from them all being from Sam's or whatever wholesaler they shop at, where they're made for presentation and not for taste. So don't be fooled. Service is always excellent. They have an army of Chinese women that run around the place, refilling drinks and cleaning up (this place is one of the cleanest restaurants in town). It seems to be very well-run. And it's very popular with the Asian community, who typically make up at least 50% of the diners, which may say something to you. I would not come here looking for real Chinese food though. If you're looking for Chinese buffet sort of food, with lots of batter and oil, then this is probably one of the better options in town. But at least try some of that sushi. read more

The good here is average. As they are the only competitive Chinese buffet in town, they provide a lot of American Chinese good and authentic Chinese good, as well as sushi, fried noodles, and American food. Always a lot of people when you visit on weekends, they have more dishes in dinner time. read more
