Chili Cheese Fries and cheese burger! As greats as it looks!
    Camilla J.

Super happy with this diner so close to downtown Nashville. The service was great and the food even better! The hamburgers were delicious and the Cowboy Bacon Cheesburger was our overall favourite. Do not mss the chili cheese fries and the onion rings though! We got both and it was more than enough to share for three people.I cant wait to come back to try that pastrami sandwich i saw at a neighboring table... it looked amazing too!

I stopped by this place while visiting Nashville after seeing an ice cream sign. The Patty Melt ($13) was made to order, seasoned and tasted scrumptious. I also tried the Strawberry Milkshake ($6) which was amazing . I would def recommend. Side note, they don't accept cash but do accept Apple Pay and credit/debit cards.

Came here for lunch and it did not disappoint. The service was quick and my pastrami was delicious ! It was packed with much meat and flavor and the fries were crispy too. My rootbeer float was everything I needed. The vibes give casual diner.there was a construction group dining for lunch too. Plenty of seating for groups, singles and couples. Can't wait to come back and try their burger.

Great hidden gem right in the edge of downtown Nashville! Stopped in to try their pastrami and it was DELICIOUS! I'm from the northeast and pastrami is a staple for us, so I'm very picky. I would 10000% recommend giving it a try; it may be a bit pricey but it's totally worth it. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The inside of the restaurant is a nice combination of modern with a vintage/retro diner feel. If you're looking for something that's just outside of the Broadway craziness with great food, definitely give them a try!

Mr.J's Original is a pretty solid choice for burgers or their pastrami sandwiches. The service is friendly and the place has a no-frills diner type ambiance and vibe. The pastrami is a bit expensive, about twenty bucks for a sandwich, but it was pretty good. I would say that it was a good overall choice.

Overall a really good experience. I had the pastrami sandwich and it was fantastic, the fries were also very well done. It has a great vibe inside and the guy that helped me was nice and polite. Real oldschool vibe for everything which was cool.

After living so close I finally made it to Mr. J's. I'm a vegetarian, so unfortunately the options are somewhat limited but breakfast is more doable. I had the breakfast sandwich (no meat) and pancakes. The breakfast sandwich was good but somewhat dry, specifically the fried egg. Perhaps the bacon or sausage version would have been better with the extra grease. I did like the flipped bread, and the large slice of cheddar cheese offset the dry egg. I much preferred the pancakes, which were HUGE. They were made fresh (I could hear the staff complaining about having to make them), so they were still steaming once I got home. They were fluffy and just sweet enough for my taste. Overall, the breakfast was good, but I don't think I'd make it a regular stop on my breakfast rotation. I wish they had a plant-based burger option as I'd definitely come back to try that.

Simple food can be so effective. I stopped by here for lunch and a burger was definitely what I was interested in. I hadn't been here before and wasn't sure what the vibe was going to be. This is a great breakfast or lunch spot. I saw multiple people stop in for to go or eat in lunches while I was there. I did the build your own burger which was perfect since I hate trying to find something that has everything I like on it. My food came out really fast and delicious. I got fries and a drink as well. They offer breakfast sandwiches and burritos which I may stop by and try sometime! Service was minimal as I ordered from the touch screen menu but I did watch them interact with other customers and they seemed very professional. This place is also xplr nash approved according to the sticker on the door! Can be on the pricier side for some of the menu items. I paid $21 for a burger, fries and soda but the food was delicious.

We spotted Mr. J's while driving by so we took a turn back to check it out. Me and my family are always down for a burger and I would have to say, we were well pleased! The burger and fries were fresh. I specifically liked their cheeseburger that consisted of angus beef, on a toasted potato bun with lettuce, tomato, onion and their burger sauce. Their burger sauce is a blend of mayonnaise, ketchup, and other secret ingredients! It was pretty tasty. The restaurant was clean and quick service.

My first visit because I was CRAVING a pastrami sandwich. They were out of pastrami. So then I order a ribeye cheesesteak. Out of ribeye now. Ugh, had to settle for a burger. Do better.

I had a morning meeting at the JW Marriott and wanted to find a quick and tasty lunch on my way home to Brentwood. I recalled that Mr. J's was on the way to Route 24, and so I decided to give it a try. It was a little weird to pull up to the beloved Hermitage Cafe building and see another venue, but there's plenty of parking and the place looked empty, so in I went. Service was super fast (no surprise given that I came in at 11:30 and was clearly the first customer of the day). It's a quick service restaurant; order at the counter, fill your own soft drink, and grab a table. No counter seating; again, it was a little nostalgic "cognitive dissonance" with that change. Coke Zero was completely out; they offered Diet Coke in the fountain machine as a sub. Since I'd already paid for the drink (this is a no-cash establishment, by the by), I drew a cup of the dreaded Coke Zero imposter. At least it was cold. I sat and waited a few quick minutes to receive my tray; I ordered a pastrami sandwich and chili cheese fries. The Sammy was solid; although the New Yorker in me yearned for the meat to be served on rye bread with brown mustard, the toasted hoagie roll and yellow mustard on the table didn't distract from the quality of the meat. It was the best pastrami I've ever had in Nashville; yes, I know it's a low bar, but it was absolutely fabulous. Tender, moist, smoky, with a proper coriander-forward spice rub. The dill pickle spear it was served with was a perfect foil to the rich meat. The chili cheese fries were magnificent. The fries were super-crispy and greaseless, and the portion was absolutely huge. 2 people could make lunch out of this. The fries were topped with a good portion of diner-style chili and shredded cheddar. It was wonderful. I would give this place 5 stars, but $32 for this lunch (plus a 7% tip; the square device offered 3, 5 and 7%; unusual, but true) at a fast-casual establishment was at the upper limit of the price I'd pay for food like this. Taste, quality and quantity were wonderful, so I give this place 4 stars and make it recommended for a pastrami Sammy lunch so long as you've got the cash for it.

Their delicious pastrami lives up to the hype!!

So excited this new restaurant opened at this historic location... The staff was very kind (I was super indecisive on what to order and they helped guide me through the menu). So happy with what I ordered... I got the pastrami sandwich and zucchini fries (talk about delicious)!! My boyfriend got a burger with fries and he was a happy camper. I'm also super picky with my drinks, thrilled they serve Coca Cola products with that pebble ice and good carbonation. Boyfriend got a shake and he said it was the best!! We also loved how great the atmosphere was, super clean and great for families. We can't wait to come back on Sundays after church!! Highly recommend this restaurant and thank you for the great service!

Amazing little spot not too far from broadway! It's very small inside but super cute. The burger was really big and suuuper good - I loved the sauce. Fries were also great. We got our food quickly - I want to come back and try the ice cream! Adorable little diner

Stoke Haus Brewing & BBQ is hands down the best BBQ experience of my life!…read more A few helpful tips before you go: parking is a little limited right in front and the entrance is easy to miss. There is additional parking around the side in an open lot that felt safe, was free (at least currently), and was super convenient. Once you arrive, walk around the left side of the building and order inside at the bar. They'll give you a pager, and when your food is ready, you'll head outside to the food truck for pickup. When we first walked in, I have to admit I thought, "What is that smell?" Then I realized it was the giant brewing vats and the smell of the beer-making process. Once I connected the dots, I actually started appreciating it and felt it added to the experience and the authenticity of the brewery. We tried their signature beer, a quality dark ale that paired perfectly with our meal. It had a great depth of flavor and was the perfect complement to the BBQ. For food, we ordered and split: Half order of ribs: incredibly tender with a crispy, flavorful top. They were packed with flavor and came with two dipping sauces. I preferred the BBQ sauce over the Carolina-style sauce, but both were enjoyable. Brussels sprouts: OH MY GOODNESS. I genuinely did not know vegetables could taste this good. Even my veggie-hating partner loved them, which honestly says everything. These were a standout. Mac & cheese: visually, this was beautiful and looked like it was going to be a favorite. Unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the way I expected and wasn't as satisfying as I hoped. THE BRISKET BURGER = THE STAR OF THE SHOW! I have never had a brisket burger before, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but this was phenomenal. The Gouda cheese was incredible, and the combination of the mayo, pickles, and sauce created the perfect balance of flavors. It was everything you want in a burger and more. This is the dish I will be telling everyone about. Beyond the food, the atmosphere was fantastic. They have board games in the back, and it looks like they host karaoke nights, which gives the space a really fun, community-oriented feel. Every staff member we interacted with was kind, welcoming, and helpful. Honestly, there was nothing to complain about. Great food, great beer, great people, and a unique experience. Stoke Haus is a must-visit and if you go, do yourself a favor and order the brisket burger. You won't regret it.

You know the places I'm talking about. No, I wanted somewhere authentic. In a neighborhood, not near the mall. A place most people would drive past. Stoke Haus is all this and more. Much more. 2pm on Sunday and the parking lot was full. (I'm sure a good handful was for the liquor store next door). The first issue - how do you get in?? There is no front door. There is a tall wooden fence on the side of the building. I peek through the gap between the fence and the wall. A long smoker, a pile of wood, a small food truck (what???). I see a couple leaving the building by a side door. This must be it. There is a sign taped to the door: order at the bar and pick up at the truck. Following instructions, we approach the bar. The couple next to me just got their food. OMG. That looks so good. I ask what they have...brisket, a pulled pork sandwich, German potato salad, cole slaw, fried okra and a little pile of pickles and marinated onions. I don't even look at the menu. "I want that" I tell the bartender. We each order a beer (I forgot to mention that this is a brewery too). We received our beer and a buzzer, found a table and proceeded to play on our phones until the buzzer went off. My husband went outside to the food truck and came in with a metal tray nearly overflowing with food. We didn't waste a second digging in. The brisket was incredibly tender with a most amazing bark. A little too fatty, even for brisket, but still a "must order". The sandwich was absolutely stuffed with tender, juicy pulled pork. Perfection. The sides, especially the potato salad were excellent (though the okra wasn't made from scratch, it was still worthy). The pickles? That final little "oomph". Our meal wasn't just a home run, it was a grand slam! I've written a lot of reviews. I've written a lot of 5 star reviews. I'd love to be able to give Stoke Haus 10 stars. This is definitely a don't miss!!

A small taster was perfect for me it's definitely a conversation starter. PG&J Mixtape: Grape - This is my jam (literally). So good. Sweet, nostalgic, perfectly balanced. In my opinion, one of the best in the country. Freezes & Hoverboards - Solid beer, well made, just not my personal favorite of the lineup. Peach Black Currant Strawberry Hill - Very good. Big, layered fruit flavor with great depth. Strawberry Delight Hill - Sooooo good! This is a must-have. Bright, flavorful, and dangerously easy to drink. Peanut Butter Copra - A stout with peanuts and a hint of toasted coconut. Let this one warm up a bit and the flavors really open up. Rich and smooth. Batch One Theory: 10th Anniversary Stout - Very good anniversary brew. I caught a subtle barleywine note blending into the stout character -- complex and interesting. Overall, this is a great place to sample some seriously creative beers. Plenty of space to sit inside or out, relax, and work your way through a flight.
