Such a great little deli! We stumbled upon this location as part of a trolley tour around Nashville and absolutely loved the lunch here! The counter-service deli team was friendly and efficient and the lunch spot would be the sort of deli you could hit up all the time if you lived or worked in the area. I opted for the BLT which was served on toasted sourdough and featured perfectly crisp bacon and salt and pepper along with mayo. A perfectly constructed BLT! Made a stop here when we went to Marathon Village to visit Corsair. Figured it a good idea to put some food in before the drinking! Well this turned out to be an excellent stop. Staff was super friendly. I had a french dip that was su full it was hard to dip without losing pieces. Very tasty too. My wife had their signature. Club, and could only eat half of it. Looked like they were using Boars Head meats, that explains some of the quality. No fountain drinks here, just a selection of glass bottle "old timey" sodas. Was in the area visiting some distilleries and decided to stop by Southern Engine Deli with my boyfriend after seeing all the great reviews. I ordered a half turkey sandwich with gluten-free bread. The sandwich was nicely made and went along perfectly with the toppings. My boyfriend got a pastrami sandwich and he enjoyed it as well. The only issue was that the ladies at the counter ended up toasting my bread but not his so his sandwich was a bit cold. Service was super nice though. I was told the sandwich came in sourdough (I am a huge fan of sourdough) but the bread it came on tasted like white bread. Also it wasn't toasted (my fault, I kind of assumed when they said sourdough because who eats non-toasted sourdough) so it kind of ruined the sandwich in my opinion. You feel like friends the moment you start ordering. Stacey tries to learn everyone's names, how they learned of the place, and what connections they have to the building. After 5-10 min upon receiving your food, the staff came around and asked if we needed anything else and whether we were enjoying our food. Generous portions - You could easily have leftovers for later. During my 3PM visit, the guy in front of me saw his sandwich and said "I'm going to need a to-go box, too." It's at least 25-30% larger than any of the chain stores' sandwiches. Awesome sandwich - I had the french dip, and this was the 1st time that I can remember that I didn't need au jus. The meat was tender and flavorful. The melted cheese complimented the meat, and I just let it sit on my tongue for an extra minute to enjoy that taste. As Johnny points out, the price point might not be for everyone. Sandwich with chips and beverage will run you $13-15, but if you split the sandwich into 2 meals (definitely do-able) and value that personalized customer service experience, I see this place as part of my Nashville favorites.
