Best gas station food around. Only wish the customer service was better.

This place is super legit! Tonight was my first night getting it and I will definitely be back. I got the falafel and rice. Their rice is so good it like melts in your mouth. This place is incredible! Don't be frightened that your food is being made in a gas station. Best crushed lentil soup in Michigan, hands down. You can skip Dearborn and just come to Berkley! Everything on the menu is amazing! The salads (fatoush, tabouli, rice almond... All excellent). Though their prices have gone up with their popularity, some menu items are still a good deal (i.e. Sam's Salad and mixed shawarma grill). I'm a fan, and it wouldn't be fair to give less than 4 stars. The food is delicious. The only reason I'm short of one star is that my last carryout order came incomplete, so I ended up paying more than I should have. They don't have jajeek anymore, it's out of the menu. Was told by a few people that this was the best Mediterranean food, while it was decent, I wouldn't say great. I ordered the chicken shawarma with fries. The chicken could've used more seasoning, but it was cooked perfectly. I didn't expect everything to be tossed in the same to go box. Fries were on the bottom, then chicken, onions and a pita on top. So you have to make your own shawarma which is fine it just would've been easier to do so if it was a bit separated somehow. For being gas station food it was ok. read more

This place is a disappointment! I ordered a carryout combo for 2 plus extras and paid nearly $35 for a hungry family. What I got was RAW meat and very bad customer service. I discovered that my food was not cooked when I finally sat down to eat after a busy day. I immediately called Mr. Kabob to inform them that my meat was not cooked. The guy on the phone actually tried to justify that the raw meat was probably a seasoning that gives it a pink color (sumac). I explained that this was not the case because I know what raw undercooked meat looks like. The man told me to wait and kept putting me on hold for whatever reason. When he came back on the phone he told me to come back on Monday to pick up my food. Umm, excuse me!!!! It was Saturday and I'm hungry NOW for the food I paid for! What in the world would make him think that I would wait until Monday? After expressing my disappointment the man on the phone said that I could pick up cooked meat. At this time, I was hungry, frustrated, disappointed and ANGRY! My dinner was ruined and now I had to drive out in the cold to pick up my food a second time. You'd think they'd include a little extra for ruining my f***n' dinner, but no, that would require good customer service. Thus, this place gets 1 star from me and Mr. Kabob has lost my business for life. read more

I wish it hadn't taken me so long to learn that my totally inaccurate assumptions of what Middle Eastern food from a gas station would be like were the only thing standing between me and a great falafel sandwich. Everything is cooked to order, fresh and fast. The interior is clean and airy, and although most folks grab and go there is seating for about 12 if you can't wait to dig in. Plus, you can buy your favorite snacks and beverages from the mini-mart to complement your meal (having choices beyond pop and one kind of cookie is a big deal to me). I've worked down the street for a decade and I'm confident that I have eaten lunch at Mr. Kabob at least 1,000 times. Eating here is a no-brainer. It's the best. It's reasonably priced. It's fast. They've got a ton of supremely delicious vegetarian options. The kitchen crew is fantastic. Plus, if you need other stuff (jumper cables, panty hose, breath spray, propane), they got you covered! It may seems slightly odd to order lunch or dinner form a gas station but this is one you MUST try. The food is delicious, the sandwich is packed full of meat and goodness. I strongly suggest trying this place if you never have, or returning if you want some good food at a fair price. I do wish they would bring back their loyalty program. Chicken shawarma a bit dry but the yummy garlic sauce was perfect. Vegetarian stuffed grape leaves seemed vinegary but my companion thought they were perfect. Service is as fast and efficient as one would hope for--walk up to the grill, order, pay, and take you plateful of Mideastern goodness back to your table (or wait a couple of minutes for a more complicated order) and enjoy. Everyone was friendly. The dining area was VERY clean. Parking can be a challenge since most of the lot is dedicated to the gas pumps. read more

I moved to Berkley, MI about 1 year ago and was very excited to know there was a Middle Eastern restaurant in the area that was actually GOOD. The first time I went, I was met with sarcastic guys laughing at me because I didn't realize I needed to pick up the food, then pay -- as opposed to pay, then pick up the food. Gas station etiquette, sheesh! I shrugged it off and was very happy that the food was great! I went a second time and they were doubly rude to me; I grew up in Dearborn and am used to warm/kind greetings from the Dearborn Arab/Middle Eastern community. This place does NOT have that! Finally, I figured third time is a charm and b/c the food is good, I tried again. I called to place a carryout order and when the person answered the phone, I said "Can I please place a carryout order?" He said What? So, I repeated myself. "Can I please place a carryout order?" The man then YELLED "YEAH, I SAAAID WHAT?!?" into the phone. I politely told him never mind and that I'd call Pita Café in Oak Park. I'll continue to call Pita Café in Oak Park. They have the FRESHEST Tabouleh around ,bar none, and I used to buy it without dressing - it stays fresher that way. The resides of Berkley don't get enough really good Middle eastern food like we do up in Troy. On the positive side, the chicken kabob and rice was ver good, as was hummus. They go out of their way to make sure you get what you want and they want you to love it as much as they do. I recently moved to a home within a couple of miles of Mr. Kabob. I read some reviews on yelp and decided to give it a shot. Boy am I happy I did. I called ahead for carryout. I got the ghallaba (beef) dinner. They told me 15 min and my food was ready for me when I arrived. The service was excellent and very friendly. I was greeted with a smile from the cashier and cooks. They told me I would be pleased and would return and they are right. The portions were at least enough to feed two people. Generous is an understatement. Usually with large portions comes poor quality but not at Mr. Kabob. I have lots of Arabic friends from work and have been a fan of home-cooked middle eastern cuisine for upwards of eight years. I have a pretty good idea of what most dishes "should" taste like. The salad was crisp and fresh. The crushed lentil soup is smooth and well seasoned. The ghallaba dinner was the real crown jewel of the experience though. The beef was perfectly seasoned and well cooked. Not tough. The rice was plentiful and firm. The vegetables were extremely fresh and they even threw in some garlic sauce. If they baked their own bread they could take out the old La Shish for the top middle-eastern spot in my heart. On top of excellent food, it was actually convenient as hell to be able to fill up my car and grab a two liter. If you are in the mood for middle eastern food, do yourself a favor and try this place at least once. They will make a repeat customer out of you. read more

dang! i can't believe that there is already a yelp about middle eastern food that is served out of a gas station. my mom's best friends ALWAYS rave about it and tonight i finally had it. and i must say: it is yummy in my tummy and the price is nice. it tastes a little fusiony (not sure why or what it might be fusing) but not necessarily in a bad way. the beef kebab had a seasoning on it that was really good, but not typical kebab-y taste. the chicken schwarma seasoning was also a little bit different than what i'm used to. the garlic butter and the fattoush were both very solid. the pita was kind of disappointing, tasted like any from a grocery store. my heart still belongs to la shish, but cmon, does it get much better than at the gas station? read more

We got take-out for lunch and were pleasantly surprised at the fast service, great value, and delicious taste. Orders are made fresh behind the counter when you order -- no microwaves here, there's a shank of lamb spinning and meat on a grill. I had the chicken shwarma sandwich, which was excellent and plenty filling on its own. Along with a salad (and an iced tea from the gas station) I had more than enough for lunch for under $10. The food is 5 stars all day every day. I have been eating the food for years. I can only give three stars because the older man who cashes me out at the register is EXTREMELY rude. I have had many $100+ orders and never a single thank you. He just tells me the price, takes my money and looks irritated.
