Mr. Kabob Xpress is one of my favorite lunchtime places downtown. The bowls are always delicious, and I've had mine both healthy with hummus, chickpeas, and vegetables, as well as on the less healthy side with their delicious crispy fries. Some downsides keep it from getting five stars. The bowls are expensive. It is more expensive than comparable restaurants in the metro area. Depending on meat and topping choices, you could easily spend $20 on a bowl. It's a pain to find parking outside the restaurant. I've had minor communication issues with the people creating the bowls. Sometimes we don't understand each other. I saw that there are more Mr. Kabob Xpress locations in the suburbs. I plan to dine at one later this year. I'm hoping the taste is as good as this one downtown. read more

Let's just say I was pretty impressed with the food here. I was honestly a little skeptical with the reviews and the decor of this restaurant, but that quickly changed once I tried my food. I had the Beef Shawarma wrap combo. The combo includes a side. I went with the Greek Salad. I added the garlic sauce and hummus to my beef Shawarma wrap. It added so much flavor I couldn't get enough. The Greek Salad was on par also. Tons of flavor pulled high. Dressing was homemade and perfect. I highly recommend you try this place. This is a good place for a quick lunch, as the service is friendly and speedy, even with a lot of customers coming in and out. I got the chicken ghallaba, which would be a solidly four-star meal because it has so much flavor and is fun to eat, but I dropped a star for the accompanying side of grilled vegetables. The grilled vegetables looked like someone got too lazy to chop up the vegetables, and were huge portions of vegetables that didn't taste very fresh or flavorful. It was an especially stark comparison since the chicken ghallaba had smaller, flavorful vegetables mixed into their dish. Next time, I'll get the rice. I ordered a chicken shawarma bowl with the Ritual app. The toppings and options were extensive The bowl was packed to the brim. The bowl was ready promptly. The only thing I asked for were some of the sauces on the side, but unfortunately, that didn't happen. It was still great nonetheless. I couldn't even finish the bowl in one sitting. Ever walked into a real, live cliche? If not, then going to CK Grille might be a special treat for you. Here it goes: Too many cooks in the kitchen... Now I, more than anybody, completely support boosting employment in this difficult economic time by hiring folks to put in a good day's work for a good day's pay. But this feeling doesn't exactly translate to seeing six grown men lay hands on one fattoush salad. Not exactly. It's always strange because every employee seems to be doing everything. That is, there's not person on the register, one grill cook, one deep fry cook, and one guy on the cold station. Instead, ten people are crisscrossing back and forth doing ten things all at once. Normally, I wouldn't complain, but the result of this is that in five visits, they've gotten my order wrong five times. And they have no one to check the tickets against the orders before they go out, so if you don't catch the mistake, it doesn't get caught. Now when I go, I stand eagle-eyed in front of the glass partition (they have an open kitchen) and pipe up as soon as I see my order starting to go south. It gets results, but is a bit more work than I like to do for hummus. As for the food-- generally fresh and tasty. And voluminous. The only consistent downside is the "pita"... which is not. Instead, it's a store-bought flatbread somewhere between an midwesternized lavash and bad wrap bread. At any rate, it's not nearly as good or fresh as it could, or should, be. Nonetheless, CK is a great addition to the downtown lunch scene. read more

First the staff is horrible, I walked in an two employees ignore me, the other one is fighting with another customer on price because they overcharged the client. I've only been to CK Mediterranean on one occasion, and that was for carryout (without a call ahead). I ordered rice almond salad. Despite a fairly substantial line of order placers before me, my carryout was ready within 5 minutes. The salad was good, if a little bland. The portion was generous. And the price was right (especially for downtown) - $5.99 for a "medium", which was about 1.5 cups of rice pilaf and 2.5 cups of salad. I really debated whether to post this review or not as I don't want the secret to get out! This place is great. The food is fresh and tasty, the service is fast, and the employees are friendly. CK Mediterranean Grille is currently my favorite place to go for lunch in downtown Detroit. I usually get the beef or chicken shawarma. I request grilled veggies instead of rice or fries. Depending on my mood, I either get the lentil soup or house salad with my meal. It is all included for $7.99. The food is fantastic. I never realized that I liked lentil soup. Since I tried it here, I have started ordering everywhere. The stuff at CK Mediterranean Grille is simply the best. It is so thick and flavorful. Their house salad is refreshing. The meat is succulent. Oh, and I could eat the garlic paste by the gallon. Everything tastes better with garlic paste! I guess we're not in Dearborn anymore, Toto. My recent shift in employment that has me driving downtown every day instead of to Dearborn has done wonders for my lunch options. Unless what I'm craving is Middle Eastern food, apparently. CK was my first attempt to cure a falafel urge downtown. The line was long and confusing. It took me a few minutes to figure out where to place my order in the chaos. And in the end, what I got was a long wait for dried out, tough falafel and bland lentil soup. After a hard work out at the gym i decided to check out this place that i had been eye balling for some time.. Very clean spot, with great staff.. The menu is kinda brief only containing a few entrees and salads but enough to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters.. I had chosen the chicken ghallaba with rice and added the side fattoush salad..... Now the portion i had ordered was a half size but it ended up being alot of food, enough for me to have for lunch the next day... What really surprised me was that my food was amazingly better the next day i could taste all of the seasonings , they had mended and blended together so well that i must go back to this place... it stays on the list Oh they also have smoothies and raw juices, none that i was able to try being the machine had just broken before i walked in (who knew) but non of that matters because all in all my food was great hats off to the crew!! read more

Everything about this place is great! I got a steak shawarma wrap with the hummus and garlic sauce and it was AMAZING. Probably some of he best Mediterranean food I have ever had. As soon as you walk in you order your food and then they have it ready for you pretty quickly. I also love that there is quite a large selection of side options for those of us that aren't a fan of the usual Mediterranean side. I had the tabouleh and it was so good, and they give you a fairly large serving of it, as well. Overall, I would love to come back and I'd recommend that everyone try it. If Detroit ever needs (the movie version of the fictional) The Avengers to save it, they have a legit shwarma shop downtown to help lure them in now! While they took seemingly forever to make my majadra wrap (they claim it's because everything is made fresh), the fact that they even had my favorite, and relatively rare, dish on the menu in wrap form made my day! However, when it eventually arrived, it was the second most delicious version of the dish that I have ever had (the first was at a defunct restaurant inside Oakland Mall). I wouldn't have though to put hummus on it in wrap form, but it ended up perfect. The rice and beans were both perfectly cooked. I didn't even need the dill dip in came with but it actually made it even better. Their menu is so authentic that it took a lot of explaining to my mother and grandfather exactly what they were about to eat. This isn't the Greekized version of Mediterranean (which is surprising considering it's in Greektown), it's got the Greek salad and grape leaves, of course but they definitely cater to a knowing crowd. I love their price point especially. Almost everything on the menu is less than $10.00 and their wraps are all around $5.00. This is an important consideration since they are down the street from a casino. At least they're great if you're not in a hurry to get there since, again, the service is really slow. read more

I had to order some food for a department lunch for around 6 people and everyone was craving some Mediterranean, so we decided to get lunch from CK Grille. We ordered the platter for 4, which was more than enough for all of us. That food could have fed 8-10 people. What was nice about this place is that they were able to deliver the food to our workplace, even though they usually do not deliver unless it is for a catering order. I really appreciated that they were so accommodating since the weather was horrible. The beef, chicken, veggies, pilaf, pickled salad, hummus & garlic yogurt were all delicious. I wasn't a big fan of the lentil soup, but I'm not keen on lentils in general. I will definitely be ordering take-out from here when I am craving this type of food. read more

I work a couple of blocks from CK and my coworker and I will walk there on our lunchbreak. The food is freshn and the service is as quick as can be expected for the lunch hour rush. My standard order is the chicken shawarma wrap with garlic sauce. The sauce is zingy and tasty and is sure to ruin your breath for the rest of the day. I have also had the falafel delux, which is fresh made falafels with hommus and tabbouli salad. It costs extra to add garlic sauce if you want it. My only complaint is that sometimes I look at my $5 sandwich and think about how skinny it looks... not that I need some gargantuan wrap, but don't be skimpy with those fixin's! I take that back, my second complaint would be the top-40 hits and club remixes pumped blaringly into the dining area. I could care less about the genre of music, but the volume- we aren't in the club right now! read more

Great sandwiches. Ingredients are fresh and the portions are good. Prices are reasonable for a downtown eatery. Some of the combo entreés are a bit pricy for the amount of food you get, but others are well-portioned. CK Grill gets a little crowded during the lunch rush and can seem very chaotic, with orders being yelled up and down the line. Some of the girls that work the register are less than friendly and can seem downright rude at times, but I don't think it's anything personal. It's just typical brisk no-nonsense order-taking. A bit of advice: know what you want by the time you get to the register to order. Don't wait until you're at the front of the line to start deciding what you want. But that's really just common courtesy to the people behind you too. Lastly, they are usually running a Yelp check-in deal that gets you a free baklava with a Yelp check-in. The baklava is not as good as what you can get over in, say, Astoria Bakery, but it's free and good and you can't complain about that. read more

Walked in 5 mins to closing and they took care of me, without a problem. I had half an order of the chicken Schwarma meal (side of salad and fries). I was quite surprised by the amount of food they gave me for under $9. I only ended up eating half of it. Also, I was jazzed by the moistness of the chicken. Pretty flavorful stuff! Salad was tasty and the steak fries were pretty standard. As somewhat of a middle-eastern food connoisseur, I must say the food itself was a very Americanized version of what middle eastern food really is. I'm a big Garlic Paste (Toum) snob, I love this stuff and although there might be a few joints in Michigan that (may) have better Mediterranean food, IMHO CK's by far has the best Garlic Paste around! It's so good, they charge extra for it (which I'm not a fan of). If you are in Detroit and you are looking for some good Mediterranean food and you love Garlic Paste you should give CK's a try. They have a great, friendly staff and also a nice punch-card program too! read more

The food is alright. The hummus and garlic paste are the best things. They used to have lentil soup that was actually very good, but no longer carry it. The meats are all mediocre/not great. The steak always has the texture of sawdust. The chicken is hit or miss. They give you a lot of food, which is great for some, but makes me wish they had a smaller portion to offer for a lower price. Every single time I've ordered carry out through their website, they forget something or even make it completely wrong. It's happened too many times to not be an inconvenience, and for that I will no longer be going back.
