Not that it's bad, but after a while you just know what to expect. However Mr. Kabob surprised me, because of their unique flavors, and amount of veggies! I appreciate that there are more then one hummus flavors to choose from and that you can combine it with the garlic as your base! I thought it was just another Mediterranean place, but what makes this one stick out is that you can pick whatever you want on your bowl. Heck, it might not even end up being Mediterranean. I've been the biggest advocate for Mr. Kabob Xpress. I've brought countless family and friends here. I've spent hundreds of dollars here, and I would have even called it my favorite restaurant. However, since posting my review, service has taken a dive. The food is still excellent. The flavor and cleanliness are still there, but the customer service has actually been bad lately. Some of the workers are cold and not helpful. You are not greeted when you walk in the door. Some of the workers don't even ask what you'd like: they just stare at you blankly until you tell them. Often times workers will get distracted while you're in the middle of talking to them, and will joke around with coworkers or look down the line to something happening at the register. I've gone from being proud to show this place to friends, to being embarrassed when they don't see in it what I once did. Multiple times have I walked in to the dining room chairs being up on the tables 35 minutes before the restaurant closes, and the cashier automatically packs our orders to go although we preferred to stay and eat. Again, I believe in the Mr. Kabob's business model, and their product. Who I believe is the store manager has been incredibly kind I see him, and can only hope that some of these issues are worked out with their move down the shopping plaza. I no longer feel welcome at this location. I will continue to be a patron of the Southfield location. It's worth the extra drive. read more

I have to give this place a 5 based on how good their food is and how friendly their owner/manager Sam is. It's very fresh and flavorful. This is a restaurant version of the delish Mr Kabob at 12/Coolidge at the gas station. I admit I'm not too crazy about the format tho, this going through the line to make it to your own liking. This 'trend' is where it's at these days for better or worse. However, I've found a way to work around it and Sam said they are going to perhaps add a traditional sandwich, say maybe a shawarma sandwich for folks that don't want to 'think' about what they want on their sandwich. Their tabouli is EXCELLENT, their hummus is very good along with their shawarma. I'm usually more of a kabob fan but I found theirs less flavorful and not as moist as I like. They have different dips you can pick, hummus etc I liked the jalepaneo cilantro! You have have a choice of rice or veggies as your base! They have a selection of veggies to pick from that are chopped up, cucumbers, onions, radish, jalepaneos, chick peas, salad etc and then you can top it off with whatever sauce you like. The food here is so good. Like, so good I can hardly believe it. Mr. Kabob is a take out or dine in place where you can make your own amazing Middle Eastern food creation. You build your own bowl with proteins, sauces, veggies...all the fixins. The true brilliance is how they build the bowl. Like any good architect, you start with a solid foundation. When I first saw them spreading the hummus and garlic sauce on the bottom of the bowl, I was super confused. But the more I thought about it, the more sense it made! You get a little bit of each with each bite--because no one wants to work their way through a mound of garlic sauce (unless you're me, but I'm whatever the opposite of a vampire is, so...) and this way it's evenly spread throughout. And then you get the stuff on top and it gets even better. I got beets, cucumbers, garbanzos, a bunch of other random stuff (I think I black out under pressure when ordering and just end up with food), half-chicken-half-falafel, tahini sauce, and a side of pita bread (you can also get pita chips). I actually think I liked the falafel better than the chicken (!!). It was still warm and fresh, crisp on the outside and delectable on the inside. Falafel is normally hit or miss because lots can go wrong: old, too dry, and so on...not here. It was great. I think they try to make it in batches so it stays fresh. Oh yes, until now the best quick eat middle eastern place. The speciality is couscous that they serve. I tried the traditional chicken bowl with couscous with base of garlic and red pepper hummus topped with couscous, just off the grill chicken and veggies, with tziki and yogurt sauce. This portion is really good when you are very hungry or you will end up taking a box :) The servers were helpful and suggested which sauce goes well with the meat. The bowl consisted of mainly lettuce (since I asked for extra lettuce). Did not see any grilled veggies except maybe very few pieces of grilled onions and bell pepper. Barely any tabbouli, no pickled turnips, no feta cheese, no jalapeños or beets. No complaints about the taste. While I believe in supporting small businesses during these hard times, I don't like being ripped off. The meal consisted mainly of a few pieces of chicken and lots of lettuce, with a piece of veggie or two thrown in. I ordered this online. When I worked at Beaumont years ago, I used to frequent Mr Kabob at the gas station in Berkeley. People were always shocked when I told them I was going to lunch at a gas station, but I promised them they food was fantastic and it wasn't your normal "gas station food". Fast forward 5 years later, imagine my surprise when I'm working at my job in Troy and realize they are opening a Mr Kabob on Big Beaver. I was ecstatic. This location is a lot different to their gas station location. Although the cuisine is the same, the menu and setup is different. Here at Mr Kabob express, you can build your own bowls or choose to have a wrap instead. I like the idea of having a giant bowl of rice with meat and vegetables. I actually really prefer this to the gas station location, which makes things more takeout/ sandwich style. I love that they offer couscous, as well as chicken, falafel, and many other choices. They also offer smoothies as well. This location is extremely clean and the employees are always friendly. The service is always quick too, which I appreciate since I usually stop by on the way to work or on my break. Sad they took away the almonds but oh well :/ I will return again and again! read more
