The is something nostalgic about a Mr. submarine sandwich. It is always special when you bring together some of the most loved foods by uniting bread, cheese, meats, veggies and condiments. Mr. Submarine makes it easy to customize to suit your taste which means you can build-your-own options. The bread is always fresh and it elevates the sandwich to new heights. A delicious bite each and every time.

This is located in the Joliet, my boyfriend took me here because he used to come here all the time growing up and he told me their Italian beef sandwiches were bomb. I'm glad to say it's the best Italian beef sandwich I had while I was in Illinois! (Better than Portillo's). The inside is really tiny and looked really outdated. Very quick service though and seems like they had a drive thru. The sandwich itself was juicy. Next time I'm in town I'll definitely try it again!

Very humble appearance from the outside but there is a reason this restaurant has been a mainstay in Joliet. The counter service is fast but that would be useless if the food is bad. Not so, we had the Chicken Philly special which came with fries for only $6.99. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and you get a choice of regular or garlic bread for the loaf. I chose garlic which was tasty. There was also a decent amount of meat. Lastly the crinkle fries which were also a generous amount, were fried just right. They are good with or without ketchup Next time I'll have to try their gyros which I have heard are also good. BTW, they also have a drive-thru

#70/2023 Ah yes good old Mr submarine. Founded in 1975 Chicago Classic sandwich shop. Only in the Chicago metropolitan area. One time they were everywhere around Chicago with loads of locations now they're kind of isolated but they're still around when you look for them. The only one that wasn't very good was the one located in bridgeview and the reviews reflected unfortunately. Here I told Jefferson Street and Joliet Illinois this one's been here for years I'd say probably since the late '80s early 90s when they put this one up. It's still a top notch one as far as keeping up to the old Mr submarine standards Have changed a little bit with the times and through covid and they have a fryer so they offer more stuff like french fries I do say they're garlic fries are fantastic I didn't have them this time but I've had them before. One of the things that still sets off this subchain to me is the fact that they still use the Toronto baking company local Chicago company with the real soft bread. I've been coming to Mr Submarine since the early 80s when I first discovered them as a preteen. Although most of the old haunt locations where I used to go they're no longer there. But I pulled into here after having to go do some stuff around the Joliet area and I ordered up one of my all-time favorites a simple sandwich beyond basic a king combo. For me it's perfect all it is is just roast beef corned beef and cheese heated up nice with a little bit of sauce on it no vegetables no nothing it's the way Kevin likes it he's liked it for close to 40 years lol. Sometimes it just hits the spot I got a bag of chips and I'm not a fan of diet RC they do have RC products here so I got a can of seven up zero sugar. Sandwich is fantastic no complaints at all their prices are pretty competitive still with everybody else around they do a hell of a business always jam-packed from open the close even the drive-thru. The employees are real friendly and outgoing very courteous. If I'm down by Joliet I will definitely stop and hear again because this one is still really good in fact I'll be back here hopefully in about a month when I pick up my new TWIC card. So I may come in and smash another sandwich again.

How is this a gyro? Just take it off the menu ‍

This looks like tree bark on bread lol Just remove gyros from your menu or call it Gyro sub

Exterior. The birds on the sign are presumably talking about how great Mr. Sub is.

Mr. Sub is a Joliet classic. One does not simply drive down Jefferson and not stop here. It's cheap and it's good, what more could you want? They're open until the wee hours into the night and the menu is huge--there's something for everyone. I'm never disappointed with their soups. They rotate them out, so be sure to ask which ones are available! That said, I'm never disappointed with anything I get here!

Unfortunately, the food was nothing like I remember Checkers being. Everything was extremely salty--to the point it was basically inedible--and we ended up throwing most of it out. On top of that, they forgot the apple pie I ordered. What made it worse was the aftermath. The next morning, I woke up with a very upset stomach, and when I spoke with my buddy later, he said he was sick all day as well. Overall, this was a really poor experience. Between the quality of the food, the missing item, and getting sick afterward, I definitely won't be coming back to this location or any Checkers if this is the quality of food and service I will be receiving.

The Checkers was part and parcel with a gas station on the corner, so you have to get by that. We decided to be bold and try the Checkers - and we are glad we did. We had a cheeseburger (5 star good and really a surprise for flavorful and perfectly done) and a fried chicken sandwich (4 star very good, could only have been a bit crispier but overall excellent). The fries we shared were also good (3 stars as they have that crispy coating some restaurants like to put on them). Since we hit this place right at lunch time, everything was fresh for us. All in all this was an excellent meal. We wouldn't hesitate to stop by again.

Recently, the generous people at Chick-fil-A loaded a few surprise rewards on my CFA mobile app (a free large drink, free bag of waffle chips) and that spurred me to stop here for lunch the other day.  This location on Larkin Ave in Joliet opened in August 2025, so it's still relatively new. Despite there only being a single car in front of me, the drive-thru wait exceeded 5+ minutes.  On a return visit, the drive-thru was somehow even slower and even the mobile ordering line (which is typically speedier) was a solid 10 minutes.  What gives? After my visit, I got yet another notification to complete a quick survey for -- you guessed it -- a free sandwich.  The carousel of freebies keeps turning!  Protip: always ask for "lite ice" in your drink, otherwise you wind up getting nearly 80% ice and only a few sips of actual soft drink.   * TL;DR * Prior to my posting, this Chick-fil-A only had two reviews: one 5-star and one 1-star.  With the median rating already sitting at an underwhelming 3*, this review will neither help nor hinder that. I've been to a handful of CFA's in the Chicago metro area, and this one is BY FAR the slowest.  Whether due to understaffing or a general lack of training, there seems to be no urgency in getting orders out the door.

Today we ordered a maple bacon milkshake, peanut butter milkshake, 1/4 pound grilled cheese burger on toast, 1/2 pound New Orleans burger and a shareable basket of parmesan truffle fries. Let's start with the positives, the shakes were well made and not overwhelmingly sweet and we liked that a lot. My husband's 1/2 pound burger seemed a little small and my grilled cheese burger said it would be on Texas toast but it seemed like it was sourdough bread and not really thick cut like Texas toast should be. I was looking forward to eating here because the pictures of the fries online looked long and thick cut, the basket of fries we got didn't look like that at all and lacked Parmesan cheese. The negative experience was the fact the water tasted weird. I took one sip and tasted a weird chemical taste but my husband and I didn't complain, we just paid and left. I don't know if it was the water or the cup but it definitely had a weird taste. Overall, the experience was ok. I think we had higher expectations seeing all the pictures online. The name of the place threw us both off because we thought it was a Latino owned burger joint with a Mexican twist but that wasn't the case at all.

CASE OF THE MONDAYS…read more I'm usually dragging on the first day of the week.....and so is this Taco Bell. By my estimates, I've reviewed nearly 10 Taco Bells across the tristate area and the general consensus is T-Bell = three stars, regardless of location.  This one on Larkin Ave in Joliet is no different, a bit rough around the edges. The drive-thru is SLOW, there's potholes a-plenty in the parking lot, street signage was falling down at some point, and often times prices online don't match what's posted at the restaurant.  The tattooed woman who works the window has been either very friendly or totally disengaged. The chicken cantina quesadilla is delicious, however, and it comes with sour cream and avocado salsa verde.  This is one of the rare items that tastes better than you'd think. The mini salted caramel churros (3 for $3) were pretty good but very small. Taco Bell now offers a "discovery" luxe box ($9), "supreme" luxe box ($7), and a "classic" luxe box ($5), which are all variations of the same sawdust-and-nonsense menu items dressed up in a slightly larger box.  The 5-layer burrito looks like excrement. * TL;DR * Bring back the volcano taco!  That is all. I neither love nor loathe Taco Bell these days.  In my college years, the Cool Ranch Doritos Locos and 'fiery' tacos were my go-to.  Now it's basic nacho cheese or nothing.  The aforementioned cantina chicken quesadilla is legitimately good but that's about it.
