I normally give 4 or 5 stars but today they let me down for the second time in a row. I order the Italian beef and always ask for it to be dipped. The wetter the better but the last two times it has been dry as the dessert and disappointing. I don't know what I need to do. I don't like opening my food right away so that it stays warm. This is located in the Joliet, my boyfriend took me here because he used to come here all the time growing up and he told me their Italian beef sandwiches were bomb. I'm glad to say it's the best Italian beef sandwich I had while I was in Illinois! (Better than Portillo's). The inside is really tiny and looked really outdated. Very quick service though and seems like they had a drive thru. The sandwich itself was juicy. Next time I'm in town I'll definitely try it again! read more

Very humble appearance from the outside but there is a reason this restaurant has been a mainstay in Joliet. The counter service is fast but that would be useless if the food is bad. Not so, we had the Chicken Philly special which came with fries for only $6.99. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and you get a choice of regular or garlic bread for the loaf. The only reason to give this place 5 stars is for their ability to consistently get orders wrong. I decided to give them one more try, thinking if I went earlier, they'd get it right. I was wrong. I ordered a HOT pastrami with cheese, onion and sauce. I ended up with an ice cold, dry sandwich with a sliver of cheese on one end of the sandwich. Three strikes and they're out. #70/2023 Ah yes good old Mr submarine. Founded in 1975 Chicago Classic sandwich shop. Only in the Chicago metropolitan area. One time they were everywhere around Chicago with loads of locations now they're kind of isolated but they're still around when you look for them. The only one that wasn't very good was the one located in bridgeview and the reviews reflected unfortunately. Here I told Jefferson Street and Joliet Illinois this one's been here for years I'd say probably since the late '80s early 90s when they put this one up. It's still a top notch one as far as keeping up to the old Mr submarine standards Have changed a little bit with the times and through covid and they have a fryer so they offer more stuff like french fries I do say they're garlic fries are fantastic I didn't have them this time but I've had them before. One of the things that still sets off this subchain to me is the fact that they still use the Toronto baking company local Chicago company with the real soft bread. I've been coming to Mr Submarine since the early 80s when I first discovered them as a preteen. Although most of the old haunt locations where I used to go they're no longer there. But I pulled into here after having to go do some stuff around the Joliet area and I ordered up one of my all-time favorites a simple sandwich beyond basic a king combo. For me it's perfect all it is is just roast beef corned beef and cheese heated up nice with a little bit of sauce on it no vegetables no nothing it's the way Kevin likes it he's liked it for close to 40 years lol. Sometimes it just hits the spot I got a bag of chips and I'm not a fan of diet RC they do have RC products here so I got a can of seven up zero sugar. Sandwich is fantastic no complaints at all their prices are pretty competitive still with everybody else around they do a hell of a business always jam-packed from open the close even the drive-thru. The employees are real friendly and outgoing very courteous. If I'm down by Joliet I will definitely stop and hear again because this one is still really good in fact I'll be back here hopefully in about a month when I pick up my new TWIC card. Drove up, ordered, and my food was dropped to me in a matter of a minute or two - Excellent service. They're also open until 2am at their Joliet location. I drove 25 minutes across town for Mr Sub! It was a Friday night so they were fairly busy, but the service was still quick. For the first time ever, I am truly disappointed here. I had a coupon. Buy three king subs ,get one free. I've done this before. Never had a problem until today. They all had an attitude and I look and they're all a different crew. I usually come here every couple of months,and for years it's been the same people over and over, giving the same great service. Today, I look and don't recognize a single person in that crew at all, including the one lady that appeared to be the manager. I show up with a coupon ,and they have a problem with it ,and then they tell me the manager says he will allow at this time , but going forward , you have to print out the coupon. I'm thinking where the hell do I have access to a printer? There's a reason why the website sent me a coupon to show them on my phone. So I could spend enough for three subs king size mind, you, and get one free. That is basically to reward me for my continued business , now they turn their nose up at it and seem to have a problem , and act like I'm gonna copy the thing , and come with it over and over and use the same one. I offered to delete it right there in front of the employee. I arrive home with our order to find sparse scraps of corned beef on one sandwich, the gyro sandwich smelled like fish (clearly cross contamination going on) and was incredibly dry and the fries with the Philly Steak were as cold as they could possibly be, like they were sitting for quite a while. My wife called and the girl (manager) argued with my wife that the other manager made the corned beef sandwich, so it was made right and they don't prepare the gyro sandwich where they prepare the fish sandwich, so it shouldn't taste like fish, but we can bring the food back for a refund. So, I bring the food back and she refuses to give a refund, because the food was partially eaten (the corned beef sandwich and my steak sandwich). What they don't understand is an unhappy customer will share their story with over 90% more people than a happy one. The outside of the store is in poor condition and the menu board is in desperate need of replacing. I assumed there would be issues with the speaker, but nope - placing an order in the drive thru was easy, the speaker was loud and clear, the cashier was pleasant and she took my order correctly. My food came out hot, fast and nicely wrapped. The meat was sliced thick and the fries were a thin crispy crinkle cut. However, I was rather disappointed in the lack of Greek flavor here. I Yelped this spot after trying to see where to try an Italian Beef in the area. I pulled up out front and felt immediately like I was an extra in Coming to America 2. The place looked just like McDowell's without the Golden Arcs and I was half expecting Prince Hakeem to take my order. Alas that didn't happen but no issue. I ordered an Italian Beef with peppers and an order of garlic fries. The Italian Beef looked similar to a roast beef poboy like back home in Nola. The bread is somewhat soggy from the beef. This isn't a bad thing per se as it is quite good! However they forgot the peppers. The garlic fries were solid in flavor and crispness but the crinkle cut always reminds me of the Ore-Ida frozen kind.
