My husband and I stopped at Joe's while we were in town and ordered the chili dog, hot dog with everything, large fry, large onion ring, tamale, and a side cup of cheese. Our food came fast, hot, and correct! Everything was so delicious. We loved the chili on the chili dog. Their hot dogs are so good! Their french fries are the thin ones and a must order. My husband and I enjoyed dipping the fries in our cheese. Onion rings were fried to perfection. The tamale was just okay. It was one you could get at the store in the frozen aisle. Joe's Hot Dogs has been a staple in my life for literally my whole life. I have so many core memories of going here after school games, bar nights, random lunches, when anyone would visit, and basically in general. My dad has been going here his entire life and remembers fondly the founder and to this day our first stop when he comes to town is and always will be Joe's. The hotdogs are amazing, IYKYK, the onion rings, fries, Polish, even the chili is epic! The service is always fast and kind and the set-up inside and out gives almost a nostalgic feeling whenever you are there with the bold OPEN sign! I only give 5 stars to places that I have gone to more than 3 times with consistent quality of food I like. I grew up going to the Joes and when the crave hits they have not disappointed. For over 40 years. I ordered the chili polish with everything. Just as I remembered to calm the crave. Also have had the beef and darn good too. Joe's has still got it. During a trip to my hometown, I visited this go-to local place for a hot dog lunch. This time (and as usual), I picked up two chili dogs and small fry. The small fry here is generous and definitely works for one person. As I snuck into the bag on my drive home, I'm happy to report the fries were hot. That made them feel fresh - yum! I think Joe's has changed the type of chili they use on their dogs. That's too bad, but it doesn't ruin my enjoyment of the food at this Joliet legend. I been passing this place for years as a truck driver and today I finally decided to stop. I'm glad I did! Ordered a hot dog meal which came with a tasty weiner, some hot fries, and a refillable beverage. The hotdog was made Chicago standard (mustard, onion, relish, tomato) but no pickle. Also, I was hoping the hot dog was going to be giant (hence it's name) so I was a little disappointed there. I got my food quick, it was hot, and I dined in their clean & quiet dining room. While I couldn't give half a star, I'd only subtract half from a perfect 4 star rating because the "jumbo" wasn't jumbo enough (even Sam's Club regular hotdog is bigger). I came with with a hankering for food adventure, I drove off I 55 just to finally try this place out as I have seen it on the road side for the past 10 years, The lot is a private and just off route 30 however they have no indoor or out door seating, this is proably due to the lack of rest rooms. I ordered 3 items, fries (really good), Chilli (it was ok) and a Tomali (pre packaged really wtf?) the tomali is what really irked me about this place granted I was out the door for just over $6.00 and the price was right nothing I had was ultimately special I will stop back and try one of the signature sausages or dogs just to give them a shot . I have been eating at Joe's for years. It is a pretty good place to get a hot dog. Lines go pretty quick, and they ask you if you want fries or rings, and have them ready for you. The thing is, the quality and service has went slightly down, since Joe left. They really do not put a lot of relish or onions on the hot dogs. They have always had a rule that 'tomatoes' were in season only, but they run out quite a bit lately. There is no outside seating, nor do I believe there has ever been. There is a lot of history and memories at this hot dog stand. The first thing that comes into sight is the absence of any eating area, standing or sitting, at least a counter to set your food down on. I'm not a big fan of eating outside or inside a car. The bad. No Coke or Pepsi soda to pick from, just the cheap stuff (RC Cola). I was looking for a Chicago Style hot dog, here everything does not include poppy seed bun, relish or a pickle. Also I do believe that this was a Oscar Meyer hot dog, which I really detest. When the sign says "we salt everything" they mean it. My fries, the frozen kind, were salted very heavy. Joe's hot dogs is a Joliet landmark. You wont see a lot of business in the daylight hours but once the sun goes down and the drunks get hungry look out. When drinking in or around Joliet on the weekend this is a must. The place hasn't changed since they opened it (just a feeling I have no proof) so you get a slight "it looks like its the 60s but it smells so good" feeling. The menu doesn't offer a lot of choices but who needs choices when your drunk right?
