Pretty good at 20 years not visiting here nothing changed only there hours of operation used to be open till like 4 AM now 11 PM which is not bad. Nevertheless, the food is still good at the best tackles in town, but they are very delicious. Everything is made fresh upon ordering. I was in my teens "Mr. T" was the first place that I heard of or eaten a quesadilla. Up until my intro to Mr. Taco the only Mexican food I ate was at a famous fast food chain. The #9 quesadilla plate at Mr. Taco was a life changing experience! Corn tortilla, Chihuahua cheese, shredded lettuce, fresh onion, fresh tomato and a drizzle of crema! But, the secret sauce to the Mr. Taco quesadilla experience is that the cheese is caramelized!!! If you like your cheese more caramelized (darker) ask them and they will keep it on the flattop longer. Nobody, makes a quesadilla this magical way. When I got started going to other Mexican restaurants I was served the uninspired melted cheese between flour tortilla version. I would try to explain the caramelized cheese version countless times, but all I'd get is a shrug and a confused look. I stopped asking because I realized it's pointless. So to avoid disappointment I only order quesadillas at Mr.Taco. Called to place a pick up order. I was trying to tell the employee my order but he jsut kept saying "okay, yes, and yes" which made me think he wasn't understanding the order. I asked him to repeat my order and he said 'Burrito". I repeated my order again and he hung up. I called again, he hung up again. I called several more times around this same time and there was no answer. eventually, the line became busy which just means, he kept the line open so no one could call. Heading westbound down Ogden Ave from the south loop is the way to go. Then once you reach Austin Ave you can't help but notice a little corner taco joint. So rather than test my patience in rush hour, I will treat myself to a taco dinner. 3 Beef Taco Dinner with Rice and Beans was plenty filling. Made fresh right in front of me. Staff was super friendly and checked on me to make sure everything was to my liking. They use double tortillas so no messy accidents. The rice was spot on good which is always one of the hardest food items in my experience to get right. Love the horchata and carrots!! How disappointing this place was after hearing so many good things about it from so many people at work. I made a late night taco run here on a Sunday around 2:30 am. When I got there I was pleased to find the place packed. How can all of these people be wrong? I grabbed the last spot in the small lot. I went in and the place was packed. It looks as if the place was packed for the last several hours as the place was completely trashed. At this point I was a bit taken back by the condition of the place. I figured that well if they have been this busy, then the clean up might have been a bit delayed tonight. The guy behind the counter was really friendly and they had our order done quickly for the place being so packed. When i got back to work, I could not have been more disappointed. The steak was very dry and the onions and cilantro were both soggy and tasteless. There was nothing redeeming about these tacos at all. I am willing to give this place the benefit of the doubt and possibly give it another shot down the road. Mr. Taco, located on Historic Route 66, isn't a place that I would recommend to anyone with a weak stomach. While I have many a friend that would swear by the food at Mr. Taco, most of them have been only after a really hard night of intoxication and are inebriated to the gills. Alot of truckers also frequent this joint, and you know they're carrying some form of indigestion relief. I have to say, I've only been there once, and while waiting in line, I saw a roach crawling on the wall. While this doesn't seem to disturb the majority of Mr. Taco's repeating clientele, it's not a place that I would bring my friends or family to...maybe someone I didn't like so much, but I wouldn't eat. But hey, if you aren't too picky and you're looking for food, they're open 24/7. The one good thing I'll say about Mr. Taco is that I haven't heard of anyone dying from their food. read more

I came here with two of my friends after a long afternoon of mushy mayhem (officially called the Tomato Battle: Chicago). Still somewhat drippy with tomato bits in odd places and wearing potentially questionable post-battle attire, we placed our orders and sat. We were nibbling on the house mix of carrots, jalapenos and garlic bulbs when our orders came up. Maybe I was starving but my tacos al pastor were phenomenal. The carne asada was also very good. My friend who has been going here forever asked me to try a bit of her quesadilla and it was delicious, with a little cheese crusted to perfection around the edges. This place is a definite dive but you know what? We fit right in and no one judged despite how ragged we might have looked. If you're looking for ambiance, this is not the place. Some might describe it as a small hole in the wall. The owner is usually there, he seems tired, but he's good at getting you in and out, with a satisfied tummy. But the food: the main reason you're coming here, is DELICIOUS! I've had several dishes and they have all been good (except the ground beef, meh). Best would be the steak quesadillas #11 plate. Seriously won't leave you hungry. Filling and absolutely flavorful. Also, anything with their chicken. It's cooked to perfection and has a yummy flavor in its juice/sauce. Tostadas, burritos, tacos... Everything here is great. Again, this isn't the place to go and bring your entire family out to eat, if you're looking for that, go elsewhere or order to go. But to stop in for a bite to eat, it's perfect. Man, this place has been here for a long time. This might be the very first Mexican fast food joint to to open in Cicero, back when it wasn't such a bad area. Yeah, that's pretty old. Anyway, my family would strictly stick to their tacos and nothing else. Prices are very cheap, which isn't a surprise. As for ambiance, you can't get any more divey than this (probably the Steak n' Egger nearby can be put in the same category) . Its located in a big industrial area, which happens to be in Cicero. Seating is strictly a high up counter with some chairs. Anybody remember when the Health Department busted this place around the late 80's-early 90's for finding rat droppings? It took this place quite some time to get brought up to code. But don't let that discourage you. Its griminess is rather charming in a way. read more

I am a long-term fan of this tasty Cicero establisment! Its right by another great establishment called Henry's Hot Dogs, but I will save that for another review- First off, this is NOT in a bad neighborhood- It is right under the railroad tracks where Ogden and Austin meet. This is your typical late-night "I'm hungry after hitting the bars and clubs" location, and the patrons packing the place is proof of this. Mr. Taco has been around a LONG time, probably 30 years or more, and has garnered many fans and a few detractors, but the fans outweigh these significantly... I almost always order the steak tacos, the meat in the tacos is chunky and almost in the form of strips, and is of good quality. The jumbo burrito is also a great, filling conclusion to a Saturday night. There is not much seating in this restaurant, so you are probably best off eating in your car or taking it home. There is also a steak quesadilla here that is just amazing. I've had several things on the menu, but I tend to stick to the steak tacos. The clientele is mixed, but there are plenty of Hispanics that come here, which is usually a good sign.. Overall, a nice place to grab a quick bite after a long night of having fun, or when you have a mean case of the munchies- Two thumbs up! read more
