I am a long-term fan of this tasty Cicero establisment! Its right by another great establishment called Henry's Hot Dogs, but I will save that for another review- First off, this is NOT in a bad neighborhood- It is right under the railroad tracks where Ogden and Austin meet. This is your typical late-night "I'm hungry after hitting the bars and clubs" location, and the patrons packing the place is proof of this. Mr. Taco has been around a LONG time, probably 30 years or more, and has garnered many fans and a few detractors, but the fans outweigh these significantly... I almost always order the steak tacos, the meat in the tacos is chunky and almost in the form of strips, and is of good quality. The jumbo burrito is also a great, filling conclusion to a Saturday night. There is not much seating in this restaurant, so you are probably best off eating in your car or taking it home. There is also a steak quesadilla here that is just amazing. I've had several things on the menu, but I tend to stick to the steak tacos. The clientele is mixed, but there are plenty of Hispanics that come here, which is usually a good sign.. Their burritos are almost the highest quality I have ever tasted. They are second only to La Parrilla in Lisle. However, I ordered a dinner recently and it was terrible. The food was over cooked, greasy, and some of it seemed to come from a can. They need to rework their dinners. Also, their tacos used to be wrapped in a different soft taco tortilla which had flavor. These current tortilla's have no flavor. With a little work, Mr. Taco can pull off a better menu. They are a nice staff of polite people. The service is good. read more

Tacos are good, the burritos are disappointing. Bland and no texture. Cheese is an extra $1.25. BUT the quesadillas are basically a gift from tipsy boozed Gods. A GIFT. Corn tortillas with melted cheese turned into tacos. Let me repeat... a GIFT. Remember that this isn't Subway, which means greasy and you can slightly feel your arteries clog as you eat. Go late. The worst mexican restaurant I've been to. Food is just mediocre. Once in a blue moon you'll get something good if there is a good chef but I don't recommend it. The owner is disrespectful and always angry at customers. A friend of mine forced him to refund his money once because he didn't feel welcomed. The restaurants on cermak are ten times better. Love it! Burritos and tacos are amazing! Meat is so juicy. Not sure about all the other stuff. I usually only order that. A little on the expensive side. But hey you get what you pay for. I usually love this place. Been coming here since they opened. But I have to say the last few times were a big dissapointment. The last time I went I noticed food not being properly kept so I left. Tonight I really wanted a ground beef burrito. That thing was so greasy my hands were dripping. There was a puddle of grease on my plate that made me sick. I know ground beef is greasy but this much, there was no excuse for. I have worked in this business for 35 years and have never seen food come out of a kitchen looking like that . Simply disgusting. Really not all that it's built up to be. Why's this? Well... - the place itself is incredibly dirty. Really, filthy actually. The tables are covered in food as well as the floors. Thankfully the counters are high enough you can't really see what's going back in the kitchen - the food is BLAND. I'm a huge fan of all Spanish type cuisines - this hardly feels authentic nor is there much flavor at all. In closing, I do have to say the customer service is good. I have been going to Mr Taco for a very long time. Longer then I would care to admit. I'm not much of a Mexican food aficionado, I stick to tacos and burritos. At Mr Taco, it's always the #3, three chicken Taco dinner. The sauce they put on the rice is fantastic. I get the Americanized tacos, lettuce, tomato, with a dash of sour cream. Mr Taco is one of the best Mexican joints in Chicago. I have been going there for over 10 years and have never seen one trucker there. It is anything but a truck stop. It is however a place for people who have been drinking alot. Not because you have to be drunk to go there but because it is one of the few places open after 2am. There are no bugs. The place isn't anything to look at, It's a taco stand with a few tables. However it is clean enough for all the people working at town hall and in the health dept. they all eat there. My parents have lived close to Mr. Taco for years, and we only just started enjoying Mr. Taco a few years ago; where had we been?! I love Mr. Taco, and think this is THE best Mexican around. I am a vegetarian and usually order avocado tacos and they're delicious every time! They melt the cheese in such a way that it's almost a crispy burnt (but a good burnt), and wow - is it delicious!
