My partner had the brisket sandwich with potato salad and a small helping of pickles and pickled red onions and I had the pulled pork tacos. My partner said the brisket sandwich was okay, but we both agreed that the potato salad was fantastic! The potato salad was way better than the one at Pappas Barbecue. The taste of the pulled pork tacos was great, but it was honestly too wet and made the flour tortillas too soggy and there was way too much coleslaw on top. I feel like if Killen's is going to serve pulled pork tacos there needs to be three things done. 1. Serve the tacos with an option of corn tortillas because I feel corn tortillas would've worked better to give a great contrast/pairing with the sweetness of the pulled pork and sauce. 2. Serve the corn/flour tortillas on the side so that they don't get soggy and wet. 3. There are some things that just don't belong on a taco of any kind and that's coleslaw. My partner and I also tasted the banana pudding and to say it was divine is an understatement. What I really like about this pudding was that you could taste real bananas in this pudding and it had been mixed well all together. Our total was $80 after tipping, which is a little pricey for some of the items, but honestly I would definitely come back to Killen's Barbecue when I was in the mood for barbecue.

The service was pretty good the people were very friendly. The vibes have a nice relaxed country feel to it. The seating is pretty limited compared to how many people come bye but that just makes the experience that much more special.!Overall if you are in the area I 100% recommend stopping bye.

We did take-out so I can't speak to the experience of eating in house, but it looked there were several seating options both indoor and outside. My wife and I shared a 3 meat dinner which comes with 2 sides. We ordered brisket, pork ribs, and turkey with potato salad and charred green beans. We also ordered an additional jalapeno cheddar sausage. Everything was so so delicious. Everything was very fresh and still hot when we got home after about a 15 minute drive. We tried the house sauce and the house mustard, both of which were delicious. The staff were kind and worked quickly. There was a line when we arrived but it moved quickly as well and luckily they had a tent outside to provide some shade in the heat for this midwest girlie who is not used to that heat in May!!! Overall would totally come back here and recommend to anyone in the area looking for good BBQ. We chose this over long long lines at Truth and honestly, I think it was the better option to make.

We live in Bay City and often travel down to Matagorda Beach throughout the year…read more About 3 years ago we were driving through Matagorda (the town, not the county) and saw a new building with a nice wide beige gravel parking lot. I mention the parking lot because it was a lot larger than most of the businesses down there. Later, we saw several trucks with boats and it was apparent that the business wanted to accommodate longer traffic. Now to the good stuff - the place is awesome. There is a husband/wife team assisted by their daughter. They are super nice - you can tell that they are just good folks. They are assisted by their daughter (who is very cute). Every time we go there the line is pretty good, but we have never had to wait more than 20 minutes. We have had the ribs, the whole smoked chicken, and chopped beef sandwiches. We don't usually get sides because we head to the beach and make it a meat with extra meat kind of day. Some good family friends recently discovered Coastal Que and have not stopped talking about it. They have tried most of everything and recently tried the beef ribs and got two for the both of them. They barely were able as a couple to eat both ribs. So my next trip I am going to give the beef ribs a try. The establishment is very clean. They are generous with their portions and not afraid to provide samples to let you try things. The only downsides are that they are not year-round. I think that they are May to September and head elsewhere for the winter. It hurts to see them leave for the winter (part of our spring ritual is waiting for them to come back). They are only open a few days a week (Thursday-Saturday .... I think .... not sure about Sunday because we never go down there on a Sunday)) and it is not uncommon that they sell out early so plan accordingly. We eat BBQ all over Texas (Austin, San Antonio, Sugarland, Houston, Tyler, and of course Bay City are our usual areas) and this is our favorite place. They are not cheap but the prices are in line with other establishments. When we head down south to the beach, Coastal is a must-visit ritual for us. We always buy enough for the day and extra to take home for the next meal. If you like Texas BBQ, give this place a try. Have a beer (or a root beer) and enjoy some great food.
