We've been to many Kelley"s locations. We know that Alvin has the friendliest, kindest, most "down to earth" & happiest employees of all! It begins with management and funnels downhill. Kelley's Country Cookin' was a great restaurant! All the food at this restaurant has massive portions. I have enough food for two portions!! The service was great and they are very attentive. Cornbread: They came out with regular rolls but the cornbread was my favorite. It wasnt very sweet. It was more like a savory and warm cornbread muffin. It was pretty good though. Chicken fried chicken: As you can see from my picture, it is massive. The chicken breading is great and it is nice and crispy. The chicken breast was juicy and came out nice and hot. They put the gravy on the side so its perfect to dip. Mashed potatoes: The mashed potatoes were great. They are smooth with no skin or chunks inside. The gravy came on top which added great flavor. Mac and Cheese: My mac and cheese came out a little cold but it was alright. It wasn't extremely cheesy either, it just tasted a little plain for my taste. I wish it was more cheesy and warmer. Buttered corn: Speaks for itself. It's corn kernels and butter. Cant mess that up. Overall, very good food and you can tell lots of butter was put into every dish. I got the chicken fried steak with mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and green beans. This was my first time to Kelley's in years and it didn't disappoint. Portions are huge, prices are reasonable, and the food is good. Our waiter did mix up a couple of our sides but he corrected it and let us keep the wrong ones. Kelley's is one of my favorite places to eat. I used to live near the one in La Marque. This was my first time at this location. It's smaller than the other restaurants, but there was plenty of seating available and a quaint atmosphere. The menu options are vast. I had never had their BTA Benedict. It has bacon, tomato, avocado on an English muffin either a poached egg and hollandaise sauce. I opted for the grits, but you could also select the hash browns. As always, the portions are generous. I enjoyed the crispy bacon and sauce. I am a huge fan of their pancakes. They are fluffy and sweet. I did try a little of my husband's pancakes, and they were perfect. read more

Kudos on the service at this Houston "must eat" establishment. However; if you're watching your waste-line you may want to opt for something NOT deep fried! :) There and salad are awesome options. The fact that 3 people lost their lives in the establishment in League City, TX haunts me to this day. I have been coming to this Location since it opened and it always hits the spot. Great food and great service every time. I believe I have eaten the entire menu by now but I always find my way back to the country boy breakfast or the country girl as my baby likes to call it. Me and my baby had the same but one with ham and one with bacon. The bacon could be a tad crispier but tastes great regardless and the ham is always tender and yummy. Decided to get a cup of chili to elevate the scrambled eggs. The cup of chili is a bowl anywhere else so be prepared to share or be really full. The prices are great for the amount of food you get so what are you waiting for, get going. No complaints, just empty plates. I have never been disappointed with Kelly's and I've eaten at different locations for 30+ years but tonight was not good. Salad had wet lettuce and dressing was watered down. Fried chicken strips had a different breading that I've never had at any location before. It looked like the fried shrimp breading and was not good at all. Gravy was lukewarm at best. French fries were soggy and not warm either. Very disappointing. read more

Great place for home cooked food! Large menu to pick from that changes a little from day to day. I usually always order their Chicken Fried Steak as it's really hard to beat, it's just that good and one is plenty big for satisfying a big appetite! I order mashed potatoes and gravy along with fried okra and a glass of iced tea! They also usually have meatloaf, fried chicken, fried catfish, liver and onions, and a large selection of sides! my husband and I went in today about an 30 minutes ago,we pick our seats and a young man greeted us and ask us what we want to drink so we ordered our drinks, the drinks were brought to us but after that no one came to take our order and we been waiting more then 15 minutes and even a few waiters/waitress saw us and didn't bother to take our so we left the drinks and walked out and told the cashier where we were sitting waiting for more then 15 minutes for service and no one showed up and there wasn't that many people and people coming into the establishment were service right away,we were going to pay our drinks but the cashier understood and told us to take our money and we left, this is very unprofessional and I was a waitress at one time myself. read more

On Sundays this restaurant has a tendency to run out of food. Yes it's a hard problem to have, running out of food. That being said I called in an order and we had a snag. Communication issue. I requested the chili burger(I don't recall what they called it on the menu) and specifically asked for bun, meat patty, chili and cheese. The burger came with fries and I specifically asked for a side of thousand island dressing (to dip the fries in). The burger came: bun, dressing, pickle, meat, lettuce, tomato, mustard, bun, with chili on the side... and NO cheese...not what I asked for! Did NOT want the dressing, pickles, mustard, tomato and lettuce) I ate the meat and chili only. No thousand island dressing came with the fries...so I did not eat them. Being new to Texas I was introduced to Kelley's by my neighbors as we accompanied them out to a Sunday Dinner. As to can see by the photos I was not prepared for the massive amounts of food that adorned our plates. Everything was very pleasing to the eye, even much so that no one could finish more than half of their dinner entrees!! When you are first seated they bring out baskets of rolls and cornbread muffins. I don't think I've ever been to another restaurant that truly served as much but then again I guess everything is bigger in Texas! The food was delicious, an awesome Southern Sunday meal. We were so full that night after coming home we had our leftovers for the next night! I'd definitely recommend trying it out for yourself. read more

I just wanted to leave a quick review of this awesome little restaurant in Alvin, Texas. Lots of locals eat here but that didn't stop the friendly staff from greeting me and engaging in some healthy conversation. I ordered the 2 egg (your way) breakfast with grits and bacon, coffee and a water. The food was good,like something you can make at home. It wasn't over the top but like I said, this is a place for locals, a semi fast food place with a feel like Home away from home. Slow service, horrible coffee, dirty silverware and cold food. What's not to like? Our order was overlooked by the waitress as we watched people who were sat long after us get their food as we were stuck waiting. We finally asked about our food and I was brought biscuits and gravy that had sat so long the gravy was congealed. I guess they didn't ever even start what my wife had ordered. I guess that's for the best considering that when she unwrapped her silverware to use the napkin there was a chunk of someone else's food stuck to the fork. Oh yeah, the coffee tasted like it was made from dishwater. Seriously, there's no excuse for a restaurant to not at least put a filter on the source for water to be consumed.....they don't even cost very much..... The fact that our order was overlooked was bed enough. It happens from time to time and the experience could have been salvaged but the fact that the potato that was supposed to be our server takes so little pride in her work and that of the restaurant that she thought it was ok to serve cold, congealed food to a customer shows not only her lack of character but a lack of management overall at this particular Kelley's. We told her the issue and she just walked away. No apology, no asking to make it right, she just moved on with her day. We did the same. read more

I'm giving this place a solid 4 starts because the portions are enormous and a good value. The food is rather bland and I'm pretty sure the rolls and cornbread are heated in a microwave for 5 minutes. But where can I go get a cfs the size of a baby, 3 sides, cornbread and roll for less than $9? Don't get me wrong. It's good! Is just not the best. Add some salt, pepper, and condiments and you have a good meal. If you get the grand slam breakfast you better be hungry, my friend. I think I'm going to need another coronary just from writing this review. We came here as we were passing through town on a road trip and we couldn't bring ourselves to eat at another McDonalds. When you're on the road and traveling you're not left with many options as food goes. We stopped in hoping to find something that didn't taste like the inside of a deep fryer, but then again Country Cookin doesn't scream "Heath Food" either. I wish I could recall seeing something of lighter fare on the menu, but I was too overcome envisioning everything in this place was an Instant Heart Attack. We took awhile to order and continued to watch as other customer's food come out of the kitchen. Everything was so loaded with fat and grease, you can almost feel yourself getting fatter just from looking at the food let alone eating it. I guess if you're used to Country Cookin, or you don't mind loosening that belt notch another 5 holes this may be the place for you. I'm going to have to say it's 110% chance I will never be eating here or at any country type restaurant for that matter. read more
