Steamed pork dumplings. I meant to take the photo after I tried the first one, but they were just too darn addictive!

I've gotten food from Mr Zhand kitchen 4 times now and every time their food and service was amazing. I've had their General Tso's chicken, A+. Their pork fried rice, A+. Their fried chicken wings, A+. Their house lomein, A+. Their steamed pork dumplings, A+. Their Singapore Mei fun, A+. And their wonton soup, A+. I absolutely love this place and the owners are genuinely kind and good people. This is the only 5 star review I have ever given. I generally don't believe in 5 star reviews but I do very much believe in exceptions. Mr Zhang kitchen is my exception. River Edge has a great Chinese takeout place. I couldn't be happier!

    A happy kitchen crew!

After moving away from my favorite Chinese restaurant in Passaic, I couldn't find a comparable place in the Hackensack area. Then I found Mr. Zhang's Kitchen. The food is flavorful and loaded with nice slices of beef. I typically order the beef with mixed vegetables. Plenty of baby corn, broccoli, onion, and pepper. The combination order has good proportion of rice to the main dish. Everything is fresh. And the owner is simply appreciative of her customers. Even though they are at the north end of River edge, and I'm at the north end of Hackensack, it's worth a trip to get there

Food is good and is on par with the competition in the area. The first time I was here I was given some free soups as it was later in the day which was very nice. The chicken is saucy and delicious. The wonton soup is one of my favorites. And especially the crab rangoons I think are better than most. As for downsides, parking is a little troublesome. Additionally, there are always young kids in the front of the store running around, being loud, and it is pretty messy like it is a daycare. Definitely could be a bit more mindful of how that appears to customers. Understand it is a family run business but truthfully I don't think customers should have to see a half eaten pickle on a baby highchair in front of the cash register, it comes off as very sloppy and disorganized even though the staff is friendly and food is usually pretty good. Overall, would come back and try it out if you haven't.

So my husband (who btw was my boyfriend in my 2013 Yelp review) treated me to dinner at the Green Papaya tonight after work. We started with homemade crispy tofu and veggie spring rolls. Then for entrees, we ended up getting Malaysian Curry dishes. I wanted a soup - so I went with the noodle soup dinner. The coconut curry broth was delicious! My husband went with the curry entre (over rice with a small salad on the side). He said it was very good. The host was great; she was so friendly and welcoming. The food, hospitality, and overall vibe are what bring in the regular customers. We were surrounded by regular customers, as we kept hearing people at other tables rave about the place or say "good to see you" to staff there. It feels very cheery there. Nothing from my original Yelp review has really changed - except now I'm giving it a 5 stars! The Green Papaya is one wonderful Thai-fusion eatery!

A bit on the small side, but it was only $5, so you figure that would be the case that it was a small serving. The curry was a bit watery though. ++++ Tropical Mango with White Rice - Solid. Lots of mango slices and 6 pieces of large shrimp. Also, lots of tropical, sweet sauce, which made it delicious. ++++ Pad See Ew with Beef - Fantastic! Came out piping hot and fresh with plenty of beef and veggies. Portion was pretty big too. Personally, one of the best Pad See Ew entrees I've had in NJ still. ++++ Chinese Broccoli with Chicken and White Rice - Excellllllent. The chicken and Chinese broccoli had LOTS of sauce and there were carrots and mushrooms mixed in. The chicken was surprisingly pretty tender for chicken breast. + Employees were very friendly and prompt, always filling our hot teas. + Food came out blazzzingly fast, within minutes of us ordering. + Not a huge restaurant, but still plenty of tables and seats. + Private parking lot to the side. THE NOT SO GOOD ---------------------------- - Nada. MIXED THOUGHTS --------------------------- = Nada. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS -------------------------------------- = Came on a Saturday evening from 5:45-7 and it was quiet at first, but a steady stream of customers came in - mostly families - however, there were still open tables. CONCLUSION -------------------- - Unsurprisingly, the food during our dine-in experience was even better than when we did takeout! Definitely a solid Thai food option in the area!

I ordered the Unagi Don Gozen ($42)- it came with a whole tray of different delicious items, with the star of the show being a generous amount of unagi (eel) over rice. The eel was cooked very well and the rice was flavorful with a bit of sweetness. There was also a small bowl of udon noodles, some sashimi, a crispy tempura shrimp in a yummy creamy sauce, flavorful edamame, mashed potato with corn, and some pickled veggies - quite the diverse array, all of which was tasty. The restaurant itself has a rather simple yet elegant Japanese wooden design. The prices suggest it's a more high end place, but the vibe is actually rather casual. The staff are very attentive and the service speed is pretty quick. Overall, I would definitely give Moru 4.5 stars if I could. I think it's great for most types of occasions, and the only reasons it's not getting 5 stars is because I do think the prices are a tad higher than I would've hoped and I think they could've done a bit more in terms of designing the place to match the price point. That being said, I still highly recommend Moru, especially for a nice lunch.

The atmosphere gives off a trendy vibe, with a chef from Chopped behind the concept. It was pretty busy on a Saturday evening but tables were available indoor and outdoor. Reservations are probably a good idea if you come at a busy time. Similar to a tapas or dim sum place, you check off your order on a slip of paper. Really enjoyed the complex yet simple flavors of the shrimp dumplings (3) though they were very small bites, the fish taco (1), and the pork belly lettuce wrap plate. Each dish is paced out to you as they see you finish. The lobster taco was good but at $17, pricey, for its small size. Savor each dish because they will be gone before you know it. They charge a mandatory 4% kitchen fee, which I understand in theory but not in practicality for customers in these times. This evening there were a few Lantern flies spotted, one of which landed in my glass of water. Parking is easy and shared with a few other nearby businesses. They also have Taco Tuesdays to get discounted tacos. This is enticing because each taco is small and not filling in its own.

Four of us visited last night and noticed we were almost the only non-Asians in the place, that tells you it's authentic! We have never had a bad dish and this visit met all expectations. Thai flavors are always exceptional even if you are not a hot spice fan (like me). Three of us started with the Tom Kha Soup, perfect for cold night. Coconut broth with yummy veggies and just the right spices (Galangal is so unique). Shrimp or chicken added is very nice. I had the Pineapple Fried Rice which sounds boring for a main, but it's full of chicken, shrimp, and other flavorful goodies. We sometimes share as an app, but my favorite so must have one way or another. My son has the Duck Curry which was massive, very tender, almost no fat. He took on level 4 spice, not for me but I tried it, wow. The Masaman curry is always a big hit, daughter said it was great once again. Wife had Green Curry with Shrimp, "creamy with crisp vegetables, very good". Servers all seem to be family, and I believe most are. They all treat you with respect and the true care which adds to a nice experience. Ambiance is warm and nice, great spot for table talk. Prices are fair, and yes, they are still BYO!
