I really enjoyed our meal at MORU. We had a few apps, which were all delicious. The portions were very generous. The service was SO fast, and we were done with our lunch in 45 minutes. The restaurant is cute and sunny, but be prepared to loop around for parking. I do wish there were more beverage options on the menu but overall we had a very nice experience.
I'm not entirely sure why I schlepped all the way here for Hallmark's biggest holiday. Or why I had sushi in a town famous for.....Korean food. But there are a lot of things in this world that don't make sense, and I'm no Vulcan. Anywho, the food was just okay. We started with Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice that had way, wayyyy too much mayo. It was more like sriracha aioli with a side of fried rice. Somewhere in all that creamy coral was fish, but my senses couldn't really detect it. The Crab Cream Croquettes were better, but--being totally on brand, it seems--there was much more cream than seafood. The Mentaiko Basil Pasta was pretty to behold, but I learned that I don't like my pasta cold. And spinach really can't make up for a lack of basil, no matter how much chlorophyll you get. Next came my entree: the Moru Don. Pretty to behold. Fresh to the taste. But unfortunately, my don came with a thick layer of negitoro--and there was way more negi than toro. Anyone who knows me knows I loathe scallions. I think they're the devil's herb. They're the plant equivalent of your worst Hinge date dunked into a sea of your biggest childhood traumas and then glazed with your deepest fears. They taste like rotten onions crying at their own funeral. I hate them. And I normally never have to encounter them in a chirashi bowl. But Moru decided to be different and mash their maguro with a billion slices of this unholy herb. So I was cursed to encounter it in every bite of my dinner, no matter how hard I tried. I tried praying. I touched garlic. I burned sage. But I couldn't escape the negi. The only respite I got was to try a bit of the Spicy Blue Crab Crispy Rice and Shiso Yellowtail Premium Handroll. The former didn't have enough crab, and the latter lacked adequate shiso. So no winning there either. Anyway, many hard lessons were learned from this meal, but the hardest lesson of all was not to go all the way to Fort Lee for chirashi. Even if is a *little* more affordable than Manhattan.
service- 5/5 attentive and super friendly staff Food- 5/5 both dishes, lunch Maru don set and hand roll set were phenomenal! The portion was great and the side dishes complimented the main dish so well. All the ingredients tasted super fresh, and they highlight the natural flavors of the ingredients so well. There was a nice variety of flavors and textures that really made this place stand out. ambiance- 5/5 sooo lovely and calm interior! The location of the restaurant maximizes the natural sunlight which makes the interior feel warm and inviting. This has been my favorite meal of the year so far. I'd definitely recommend this place!
Best Kaisendon in the area! The Moru Don is a must get - it comes with toro, sweet shrimp, salmon, scallop, tuna, salmon roe, tobiko cucumber, etc on a bed of rice. It also comes with a side of pickled chayote, miso soup, salad, as well as some nori. The fish is so fresh and the portion is very generous at $32. I also recommend the hand roll set - it's 4 rolls and miso soup for $28. The salmon avocado is surprisingly really unique and creamy. The spicy tuna comes with chunks with tuna which creates really nice texture. The creamy scallop just melts in your mouth. The soft shell crab has a nice crunch and a nice way to end the set. Staff are always friendly and food comes out fast. It is also easy to find street parking nearby.
I've been dying to try MORU for a while now, as all the food I've tried in Fort Lee NEVER misses. My group all tried one of their Gozen set lunches - I had the hand roll gozen which came with a huge portion and assortment of dishes, including 2 classic hand rolls, a portion of udon, hamachi, fried shrimp, and various vegetables/salads. This was the perfect introduction to their menu and I was delighted by the generous portion of food. I really loved how all the gozen came with a mini bowl of udon even if it wasn't part of the main dish as well! We were seated promptly and with a striking view. Their main dining area sits on the corner of an intersection and has windows all around, so there was a wonderful amount of sunlight streaming through which provided the most cozy and inviting atmosphere. Although the view is just of the street, it was my favorite part and great for people watching. Service was perfect - they answered any questions and were happy to give recommendations/explain the menu. Kept our complimentary hot waters full throughout the meal as well. MORU 100% lived up to the hype and I was glad to take my out-of-town friend here to show them North Jersey has some of the best eats. Perfectly located nearby my work and usual stomping grounds as well - I can't wait to return!
One of the best meals that I have had in a while! Went here to celebrate my birthday and it was the perfect place to treat myself to high-quality food without breaking the bank too much. The food here is SO GOOD and made with quality and creativity in mind. To start, we got a variety of starters and hand rolls, which really set the tone for our meal because of how delicious everything was. Till this day, I am still dream about the hand rolls. We tried the salmon avocado, spicy tuna, creamy scallop and soft shell crab and I love how they were all so good in their own ways. For our main dishes, we ordered the bulgogi cream udon, korean fried chicken, and the sukiyaki nabe and have nothing but positive things to say about each of them. The bulgogi cream udon is so unique with the udon, and the creaminess of the sauce paired so well with the bulgogi. I also really enjoyed the broth of the sukiyaki, which was so flavorful and comforting. Dining here is really so special and it was one of those meals where you leave feeling so satisfied and happy to eating such good food!! I cannot wait to be back :)
I got the regular lunch sushi set on a Saturday, I think they serve it everyday. Their sushi is incredibly flavorful and fresh. The toppings are extremely flavorful even tho there's only a little dollop on each, you can really taste the perilla or whatever is on top for each fish and it balances very nicely. I think every part of the sets here match to make a very balanced meal making good food become great. The udon is nice and chewy and the soup savory without being salty. I would say these sets are similar to the NYC affordable omakase but with a better price point. The place is also very pretty and nice with big open windows. The waiters are very conscious of everything to make sure the experience is nice like in the Korean fusion restaurants in NYC. Overall very good!
2nd time trying Moru, it doesn't quite meet my satisfaction. I was craving an uni dish, more specifically uni bibimbap, and their Mentaiko Avocado Bibimbap ($21, with uni added; comes with miso soup) just didn't sell it. My husband got the Donkatsu (pork cutlet; $19) and that was also watered down/soggy; you're better off getting donkatsu from Yum Sem in Closter. The Salmon Avocado Tartar ($18) was decent -- probably what we enjoyed the most that visit. Sparkling drinks aren't homemade (and expensive @ $6.50). Service was great; the waiter & waitress were attentive and accommodating. Ambiance is sweet and homie; being upstairs on a rainy night with the large, slanted windows bearing the city made me feel like I joined a set in Ratatouille or a Miyazaki film.
Impressive menu and comparable to manhattan levels with creativity, freshness, and presentation. I ordered the nine mini plates tasting box in February under their specials. Service was attentive. Each tasting was quite an adventure to the palate. I look forward to the special seasonal menu.
Coming back here for a family dinner on Sunday evening right at the opening of 5 pm to avoid the crowd. We ordered a few dishes that we liked before and new ones such as seaweed salad , tofu, dumpling and Kimchi Donkatsu Nabe. Everything tasted great as expected. Love the kimchi katsu combo. We did not try any sushi , sashimi or handroll due to personal preference. Will try them on the next visit.
Much better menu selection this time. Hand roll set of course ~ And then more from the noodle section. Definitely better than any sashimi or sushi. We have made up our mind about not ordering sashimi or sushi from Moru, so - noodles it was. Quite good. Everyone was satisfied with all three : soft tofu brisket spicy ramen, kimchi donkatsu noodle (too spicy and salty), and the cold buckwheat noodles. The soft tofu spicy ramen was the best among the three. Will come back to try this again.
Killer food, presentation is absolutely on point and the restaurant is gorgeous. The salmon in the salmon don is incredibly fresh and melts in your mouth. Rice is perfectly seasoned with a great texture as well, overall perfect bite everytime. Getting the lunch set here came with a ton of great little sides, it made for a fun dining experience where the food never got stale. the udon was rich and had perfectly cooked noodles with a great chew, it was one of my favorite additions to the meal. the crispy shrimp was fantastic, super big with a great crunch and the creamy sauce had a nice flavor. Potato salad and sesame salad were great too, nothing special flavor wise and tasted classic but a great little side to cut through the other dishes. overall this set was not just gorgeous but insanely delicious, that with the amazing ambiance ended up creating my favorite dining experiences in new jersey. service here was great too, they offered us hot water and made sure our cups were filled and warm the entire time. i will most definitely be back, a must try if you are in the area for sure!
Food, service ambiance for me always very good my husband and l eat here many times and we even celebrate the New Year's Eve last year with our friends (14pax) We love the quality of food always well prepared fresh and taste good, the staff are friendly, the price of the food is reasonable. Great spot in Fort Lee for high quality Japanese food in a nice yet casual setting. I especially love the lunch Gozen options. I ordered the Unagi Don Gozen ($42)- it came with a whole tray of different delicious items, with the star of the show being a generous amount of unagi (eel) over rice. The eel was cooked very well and the rice was flavorful with a bit of sweetness. There was also a small bowl of udon noodles, some sashimi, a crispy tempura shrimp in a yummy creamy sauce, flavorful edamame, mashed potato with corn, and some pickled veggies - quite the diverse array, all of which was tasty. The restaurant itself has a rather simple yet elegant Japanese wooden design. The prices suggest it's a more high end place, but the vibe is actually rather casual. The staff are very attentive and the service speed is pretty quick. Overall, I would definitely give Moru 4.5 stars if I could. I think it's great for most types of occasions, and the only reasons it's not getting 5 stars is because I do think the prices are a tad higher than I would've hoped and I think they could've done a bit more in terms of designing the place to match the price point. That being said, I still highly recommend Moru, especially for a nice lunch. read more
Came here on a Friday night around 7:30ish. When I entered, the place was fully booked with reservations but was able to get seats at the bar upstairs after a few minutes. I've been to this location when it was a Korean restaurant and had similar rustic vibes. Ended up getting the Donkatsu which comes with salad, rice and sauce. It was a solid meal, not out of this world but really good. My friend got an assorted hand rolls which looked esthetically nice. They have an extensive menu and I want to their noodles next time. This spot in Fort Lee is seriously a must-visit for lunch, with the most filling and fun lunch gozen sets ever which come with veggies, tempura, and a whole mini bowl of udon. Came on a Saturday for lunch and it was pretty busy, so recommend making a reservation ahead of time. Food came out really fast though despite how busy it was though - Sushi & handroll gozen (5/5): my least favorite part of this was the yellowtail handroll (too many toppings and flavors going on), but even that was good. The sushi was EXTREMELY fresh and not fishy at all, and the yellowtail sashimi that came with the gozen literally melted in my mouth. On top of that, the udon was delicious, cooked perfectly (I have high standards for udon) and the creamy shrimp tempura was large and juicy! Honestly the most perfect lunch set and I was feeling extremely full after, so it was so worth i! - Matcha mochi ice cream (5/5): It was restaurant week this week too, so the lunch sets came with a complimentary matcha mochi ice cream. I was surprised by how good the mochi was - super thin and chewy, tasted homemade almost. Would def recommend ordering even when its past restaurant week Would be super stoked to come back and try the other lunch sets! read more
This restaurant is a great spot for fresh, elegant, authentic fusion of Japanese and Korean food. The most unique for me was the sashimi bibimbap and it was delicious. Also got the hand roll set and all 4 of them were really good. The creamy shrimp tempura was also a wonderful dish. Overall very happy with the food and service, though its on the pricey side. The restaurant is pretty small, right in a corner. Parking is street parking so it may be difficult at times. Would definitely come back again! read more

I found myself back at MORU but for lunch this time and was eager to see what they had to offer. They have a number of lunch sets which are great for all kinds of cravings and they all come on a tray with a beautiful spread of assorted dishes. I got the MORU Don Gozen which is their version of a chirashi bowl with 9 different types of seafood options. Everything was incredibly fresh, simple, and clean. It was served on a warm bed of seasoned rice and I loved that it was served with seaweed to make mini hand rolls. All the sides were fantastic with my favorites being the 3pcs sashimi, creamy shrimp tempura, and mini udong. The Sushi Gozen is also a great try if you're looking for a more classic sushi set. Not only was each gozen aesthetically pleasing, but every element came together beautifully, and the freshness & flavors are evident in every bite. The A5 Japanese Wagyu literally melted in my mouth and it was such a big piece too! The simple addition of truffle and sea salt took it to the next level making it such a satisfying bite. All in all, I'm so glad I found my way back to MORU! Definitely one of the best spots in Fort Lee; highly recommend. read more
Yum love the quality ingredients and care that goes into the food here. The Moru hand roll set was fresh and the choices of toppings with protein were well thought out. My favorite is the salmon hand roll. The H ordered curry rice with donkatsu and the curry, which is home made is among one of the better Japanese curries I have had. The donkatsu is on the thicker side and was still juicy and tender after all that deep frying. Service was professional and fast. We would come back again when I have a craving for that salmon hand roll again. read more
Sooo pleasantly surprised with this place!! We ordered a sushi set from here while at Englewood hospital after giving birth because of course my first meal was going to be sushi. Honestly it was better than domo domo. We went again this past weekend with the baby and it was just as good as I remembered. Really appreciated the premium lunch special. My husband loves the Japanese style curry and he really liked his dish as well. We were able to make a reservation online even tho they were pretty busy for lunch on a Saturday. The sushi was so fresh and tasty. Honestly probably the best sushi I've had in Jersey. Definitely worth the drive to fort Lee. Highly recommend! read more
Great atmosphere for a casual date night, with friendly service and quality dishes. We ordered several hand rolls--negi toro, seared beef, A5 wagyu, and spicy salmon. The fish and wagyu were fresh and flavorful, though the seared beef was a bit too chewy for our liking. We also tried the bulgogi cream udon and sukiyaki udon, both of which were rich, flavorful, and on the heavier side. The space has a nice vibe, and we'd recommend making a reservation since it can get busy. read more
Ordered the seiro mushi and sashimi set to celebrate our father's birthday! For four people, this was the perfect amount! Highly recommend. And don't forget to bring your own alcohol! Service is excellent. Thank you!! Oysters were fresh and so were the salads esp the yuzu tomato. The only dish we were not a fan of was the tofu... It was too bland for our liking. The sashimi tray consisted of amazing fresh fish! And the Chilean sea bass was yum-- I wish I had some rice and kimchi to go with it lol The seiro mushi set was super healthy and it paired well with the sukiyaki nabe. I think the sukiyaki could have used a little bit more salt, that's all. read more

Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves sushi or fusion food- MORU has delicious options with a menu you'll want to order everything off of. We had the spicy tuna crispy rice appetizer (8/10), chicken karaage (6/10), bulgogi creamy udon (10/10), and a 4 piece hand roll set: creamy scallop (10/10), spicy salmon (9/10), spicy tuna crispy rice (7/10), and soft shell crab (6/10). Service was so friendly and attentive, immediately giving us glasses for our BYOB soju without us even asking for it, giving us great recommendations, and getting our food to us so quickly. The restaurant is full of windows and offers a really nice and intimate ambiance. Perfect for a date night or catch up with friends. Can't wait to come back! read more

Great spot for Japanese that works for both casual and more structured occasions. Their menu is super versatile so there's something for everyone! Also loved the various textures from the daikon, ikura, and rice puffs. This pairs wonderfully with the oroshi soba. They make the broth in house and you can def taste the difference! What an Elegant Casual Japanese Dining! You'll be greeted by their friendly host and staff. They have a nicely layout with first and second floor. Once you're seated, their menu is easily guided and assorted with various Japanese dishes. From appetizers to sashimi/sushi and from tofu to rice/noodles. Moru stands out for its exceptionally warm service and atmosphere. The inside is cozy, warmly lit, and clean with a distinctly Japanese aesthetic. I always get the hand rolls, and they are consistently good though sometimes better than others. We had the eel, branzino, spicy tuna, spicy tuna crispy rice, shiitake mushroom, creamy scallop, spicy blue crab hand rolls. Standouts were the spicy tuna crispy rice and creamy scallop. The eel was great but could've used more sear. I found the branzini to be a bit bland and couldn't detect the lime. The shiitake mushroom was not very special. The KFC was fantastic, especially the little crispy rice cakes. It was wonderfully sticky and sweet and had a great added crunch from the peanuts. I am a big fan of the complimentary apple pickle. The seaweed cucumber salad is nice and light and feels healthy, although I found the cucumbers to be my least favorite part (they did not absorb much of the flavor). Review 100! I really wanted to like this place more; I really really did. But alas, the menu itself was more promising then the execution. Nothing was bad persay, just the execution of the dishes were more "It's good" versus "wow this is amazing". My wife and I split Shishito Peppers, Chicken Karage, and the Hand Roll set. The first bite of the shishito's were really good but once the "topping" of the peppers ran out, it really just tasted like normal shishitos. The Karage, while it had a light breading and the furikake ranch was not overpowering, was really chewy. The Handroll though is where this place really ended up being above average. It is hard to find high quality nori and expertly curated sushi rice in a handroll at most places but MORU really shined in that department. My wife and I agreed that the Softshell Crab and Creamy Scallop were the 2 winners of the set as each had a nice bite of spice and remained texturally interesting throughout the multiple bites. The other two, Spicy Tuna and Salmon Avocado, tasted all right but really was not something I would be coming back for. Though I understand you pay top dollar for top quality, I think the meal was just a tad too expensive with the bill coming in at 50 dollars pre tip for 2 small plates and 4 handrolls. If they lowered the price a bit. I would consider going out of my way to come back. But as it stands, MORU will best be left for a stopover on the way back from the GW Bridge. read more
Umami flavors galore! Moru has amazing Japanese- and Korean-fusion dishes. I have no idea how they come up with the combination of flavors. Here are some recent favorites: * Potato salad with cucumber, corn, and bacon: I already like Japanese potato salad, but the bacon on top was extra special. * Agedashi tofu with seaweed pesto: The seaweed pesto was like a delicious unami paste on top of a mild soft tofu. * Blue crab crispy rice roll: I'm not sure if the crispy rice was necessary in the roll, but it was still good. * NY strip steak don with caramelized onions and soy sauce rice: This may be one of my ultimate comfort foods. Not only was there nicely grilled teriyaki steak, the caramelized onions, soy sauce rice, and chopped green onions added even more flavor that all went very well together. Cozy and modern Japanese place in NJ. The food is good but nothing that blows your mind. Food was more of a 3 but the service was a 4 that bumped up the review. What we liked: My friends and I like the Moru Don and Eel Don. The rice cake and sausage in the stick were good (crispy with good sauce) but pricy for what it is. The average items: The Kimchi Nabe and Sukiyaki Nabe are average. The Kimchi Nabe turned out to be more spicy than the staff described it and the friend that couldn't eat spicy food had a hard time finishing it. The fried squid appetizer was crispy and good texture; without being over fried. What to avoid: Definitely skip the bulgogi udon and the creamy one, both were very disappointed. The sweet bulgogi with sweet broth which isn't something my group was used to. The seaweed in the hand rolls were a little soggy, likely due to the moisture from the rice. read more
Moru may just be one of my favorite restaurants in Fort Lee. A Korean-Japanese fusion restaurant, Moru serves a wide range of dishes from curry to jjampong to don and sushi. I ordered the Moru Don and my friend ordered their Bulgogi Cream Udon with handrolls set. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The fish was plentiful and fresh. Overall, service was attentive and ambiance was great with lots of natural lighting. A great restaurant to eat and yap. read more

I'm a little torn about Moru. I liked everything I had here....except for the sushi. It was not very good and carries a premium price tag. I got the salmon sashimi and sushi set which comes with a few pieces of salmon sashimi, 8 pieces of nigiri, and 8 pieces of maki. I found the quality to be just ok. The other items I've tried were all excellent. I highly recommend the K.F.C. and crab cream croquette. All in all I think Moru is pretty good. I'll probably skip the sushi next time, but I do want to check out some of their other menu items. read more

Visited on Saturday at 2 PM. Although the restaurant was full, the service was surprisingly fast, and the food came out quickly. The sushi set was delicious, and all the side dishes were well-balanced and flavorful. The only thing we found a bit off was the unagi don sauce--it was a little too salty. Even after mixing it with all the white rice in the bowl, it was still a bit much. On the other hand, the gyu-katsu was perfectly cooked! Overall, both the food and the ambiance were excellent. Definitely planning to come back! read more
