Food is tasty and fresh. We had a usual spot in New Milford but have officially switched to this one.

Americanized Chinese food. Very bland, lots of fillers, poor quality and taste. Soup was watery in taste but thick with corn starch. Why is there celery, carrots and green peppers in my Kung Pao chicken?! Service is fast but typically curt, acerbic and to the point. The went up on the minimum for free soda. They had a menu change for it about 6 months ago, now a new one. I don't know about you, but I do factor the free soda when I order so I don't have to go to another place for a drink. read more

Lot of standard issue stuff... shrimp with lobster sauce, egg rolls, boneless spare ribs, and soups all decent. Something is a little off with the chicken they use it's either a low quality or they are skipping the cooking step of blanching that's my guesses..... but it's edible. They really lost a star with me in the fried rice. The fried rice is spicy and tastes like it's flavored with pepper or some kind of hot spice. The fried rice also has sprouts which is unexpectedly unwelcome. For a standard issue Chinese food grease mill the take out it's fine, but would recommend any other local Chinese take out over this place. read more

Best Chinese food in Bergen County! Not greasy, the dishes have unique flavors, and the owners are great. The COVID-19 precautions are followed by picking up the food through the screen in the front door. Pick up is basically contactless. The chicken corn soup is clean and yummy tasting. This is a great Chinese food spot! Even from the very simplistic tofu veggie soup (one of my usual add-ons), you can taste the difference. The way they make the flavors come alive in every dish is amazing. This place has been one of our go-to takeout places for a long time. We're waiting for a delivery as I write this. This place is great and the food is delicious for the area. When placing an order you must be extremely patient and make sure they repeat the order back correctly even with that sometimes they still make mistakes. Otherwise that won't stop us from coming here for our weekly cravings. read more

I'm on a quest for a great Chinese place in my new 'hood, but I haven't found it here. Basically, it's okay. Exceptional amounts of salt in the white sauce (and I love salt) may turn a lot of people off. O my, who knew this place could also satisfy w/'healthier' versions of their cuisine. Who orders from the "diet/healthy" menu - that little small corner of the menu I thought was only added on as a mere decoration to satisfy all customers.. I mean who orders from there if you're ordering chinese food right? Well, we did, on a night where we dined with a very healthy relative. Lo and behold, that section of the menu is real! We ordered steamed shrimp w/chinese vegetables. I asked them if they had brown rice and they do! I was very satisfied with this dish! The brown rice was very soft and tasty! The steamed dish was plain steamed, but came w/sauce on the side. The sauce is very flavorful so a little went a long way. The shrimps were huge plump and had that nice crunchy first bite. Very disappointed again. This place is so inconsistent. Meat dishes Have very little meat. Instead they are loaded with bland Chinese vegetables that are barely cooked. The chicken in the last dish I ordered tasted very weird. I don't know if it was old or if it was frozen but it was gross. I threw it out. If you want a decent amount of meat or chicken or fish in your meal you have to pay extra. If you want real delicious, authentic Chinese food it's worth the drive to pick up at the Lotus Café in Hackensack. read more

Sadly, updating my review and downgrading the stars. Would really say 2.5. The past several times, just hasn't been as good. Steamed chicken and broccoli has so much broccoli and hardly any chicken. Boneless ribs full of fat. Even placing the order is an ordeal. The owner's young son yells at you and hangs up on you as you're placing the order. So here's the breakdown: 1) Ease of ordering: First I would like to say both are extremely courteous. However, Red Apple seems to have stronger English speakers on the phone making orders easier. Additionally, if you pay by card, Red Apple allows you to add your tips at the time of delivery whereas Lantern asks you for a tip on the phone. I don't at all like Lantern's system because a tip should depend on the service but overall it's a buck or two so who cares. Winner: Red Apple 2) Delivery Speed: I must start off by saying Red Apple has the fastest delivery I have ever seen in my life. My wife and I joke that they deliver before we hang up. Lantern was reasonable but nothing like Red Apple. Winner: Red Apple 3) Hot & Sour Soup: Red Apple's hot & sour soup is simply terrible. Lantern's acceptable but nothing crazy. I've yet to find a good hot & sour soup in the area. Winner: Lantern. 4) Beef with vegetables: I didn't try this so can't comment too much other than to say my wife declared a winner and it was: Winner: Red Apple 5) Kung Pao Chicken: I'm a huge Kung Pao Chicken fan. I would say though it's near impossible to get good Kung Pao Chicken from a non-Sichuan restaurant and most restaurants, let's face it, aren't Sichuan. So while both aren't amazing I'll just go by the one I preferred. Winner: Red Apple 6) House Special Mai Fun: I have to say when I saw the Mei Fun from Lantern I was disappointed as the noodles looked thicker than normal. However flavor wise it was quite good. Red Apple's is different but also good. Winner: Tie 7) Special Requests: So if you're like us you always ask for some minor change or addition when you're ordering. Our two consistent requests are "extra spicy" on items that should be spicy and "extra hot sauce" in the bag. I hate that vinegary packet hot sauce but my wife likes it so it's standard. We asked Lantern about 4 or 5 times for extra hot sauce but none came however we got a plethora of orange, soy, etc. sauces none of which we wanted however. Red Apple usually does as we ask but I must say this all feels pretty anecdotal so I won't hold it against Lantern off one order. Some side notes, Red Apple has removed their coupons on their flyer and no longer honor them. Lantern on the other hand was kind enough to add a coupon to our order when we didn't even have one of their flyers at all. For us at least, given the generally better food, faster delivery, and ease of ordering we won't betray Red Apple again as each time we do we're slightly disappointed. 2 hours to deliver food that takes 15 minutes to make. I'm located across town. They stated an 1 hour delivery on a Saturday night, which is understandable. 2 hours is a little ridiculous. It has happened before, the driver said it was sitting on the counter for 2 hours before they said it needed to be delivered.im thinking about not ordering from here again or for a very long time . The Won Ton soup actually has strips of pork and scallions - lately so many Chinese restaurants no longer put these in their soups but Lantern does! I love thir spare ribs - delicious with lotsof flavor. All their food has great flavor nothing bland! Literally everything I've gotten has been good: fried rice, all the chicken options, tofu, etc. The vegetables are always fresh which separates it from other Chinese take out places. Usually I just pick up, and the few times I've had it delivered, I haven't had any issues. Was in the area yesterday and got a call from my boyfriend asking me to pick him up some egg drop soup on the way to his house because he wasn't feeling well, my friend suggested Lantern Chinese stating that its the best. So I drove around the corner from his house parked rite in front of the restaurant and walked rite in. I was greeted by one of the workers and asked for a large egg drop soup. The man prepared my soup to go rite away with no hesitation. The store front looked nice and clean which is always a plus. I also watched as the chef took a lot of care in preparing the food for other customers. He didn't seem to be rushed and sloppy as most other establishments I've frequented. Long story short my boyfriend said the soup was great and I can't wait to come back and try something other than egg drop soup. read more

If I could put no stars I would! I will agree with everyone else that left a review on here, the food is good and I like that they are in town and convenient. BUT, the service is horrendous when it comes to delivery. Every time I order the order is always wrong and when I call them to let them know they proceed to argue with me. On top of that they begin to yell back and fourth at each other in Chinese, while I'm still in the phone. Then, they preceded to tell me that I'm wrong and the order is correct. Meanwhile they attach the menu with my order circled on it. I'm also attaching a photo to prove that they circled my order, which I didn't receive. So don't waste your time with this place. We just moved here so we were looking for a Chinese place, my mom lives close by; where her Chinese place would deliver but my boyfriend wasn't crazy about it so we tried it here. This place is amazing, my friend came over on a night when I was ordering out and insist that I tell her when I'm getting Chinese so she could come over. My boyfriend gets Kung pao chicken with no vegetables and we've ordered it a hundred times and I have to say they've never messed up. Also the most exciting part they have scallion pancakes which are awesome! The woman who works there is super nice so I'm surprised to see that she was rude, maybe a different person ? We are in California and my 94 yr old grandmother is recovering from a fall in a rehab. Needless to say, she won't eat the food there because it is gross.
