Tried Miss Betty's Kitchen for a couple of to-go orders for my coworkers, and the experience was definitely mixed. One coworker ordered the Fish & Shrimp Combo with a large strawberry Kool Aid and absolutely loved it. She said everything was seasoned well and cooked just right no complaints there. The Kool Aid was a standout too, very nostalgic and reminded us of those old school cool cups when we were younger. My other coworker had the Chicken Wing Plate (5 Jumbo Wing Combo) along with gumbo, a small side of rice, and a Kool Aid. She said the meal was just mid overall. The gumbo had good flavor but was really watery, and it came with three whole naked unseasoned wings just sitting in it, which threw things off. As far as the spot itself food service and ambiance aren't really strong points. It's not somewhere I'd feel comfortable pulling up to at night, it gives off a sketchy vibe. Overall the drinks were a hit, one meal was great, the other not so much. Might be worth trying depending on what you order, but it's a bit hit or miss. read more

What can be said , its a spot known by the community for late night meals . The menu is complex reason they sale everything you think you may want or not. On arrival looks like a grocery store, but its a restaurant with about 2 or 3 tables , you place your order at the plexiglass and pay. The people ordered pork chop , shrimp and hamburgers. They stated it was a good Late night meal . I didn't partake because on arrival my stomach said no . Ms. Betty's was a late-night discovery when we first visited Houston. Although it may not seem like much from the outside or based on the area it's in, trust me when I say it's worth the trip. The biggest things you need to be aware of are (1) it's cash only (2) about half of their items can be ordered a la carte (3) there isn't much of a dining room (this is strictly a grab and go) (4) and if you come late at night, be prepared to order. This is a no-nonsense, direct experience. It's not a place to feel warm and fuzzy. Their food isn't gourmet by any means, but it's certainly better than most fast food options and also less expensive. I really enjoyed their fish sandwich ($6.50) that was 90% fresh white fish fillet with a thin layer of cornmeal for a slight crunch. You absolutely have to try their chili cheese fries too. For $10 you get a huge portion of fries that are slightly soft but retained their crinkle, tons of gooey cheddar cheese, and perfectly seasoned chili. It's more than enough for two people to enjoy as a main dish. If you're looking for a late night spot or just need a snack, you can't go wrong with Ms. Betty's. read more

This is a very hole in the wall, no frills restaurant. It is very old school and you order and take your food to go. Seems like one of the few actual late night places (closes at 3am). The owner, I assume ms betty, has a very get shit done attitude, which I enjoyed. She RUNS the restaurant and will tell you what's up. I'm sure her attitude can be off putting but she chatted with me and gave my partner and I free sodas. Turns out she's an immigrant from Macau and had been in Houston for 35 years, so hats off to her! Foodwise, they have burgers, wings, and various dinner platters all at very affordable prices. I got chili cheese fries and a hamburger and both were excellent. The fries were crisp with nacho cheese sauce and chili on top and the burger was very large and tasty. He said they were okay and my lemon pepper wings were too lemon, but enjoyed my lemon pepper wings they were good, not too small like some places. Looks like a small corner store but the food was really good. One of the best burger && fries I've ever had && the prices are really good... the service however was not up to par.... The guy taking orders was nice && friendly but the woman/owner had a very rude personality.... It was 8 of us but half declined to order because of the owners bad attitude. read more

Was lookin for a food other than fast food at 12am. Really a gem if you know the area. Had the stuffed crab& shrimp. came with a salad, fries, and bread for 12.50. Great place. Their Chicken Wing is a must get, also the fried fish is amazing. One thing I love this place is they do not put too much seasonings on the fried products like most of the places so I don't have to chunk a gallon of water after the meal. The owners here are awesome! I do not get all the negative comments about them, We came in with a "Black" friend and we had a long friendly conversation with them.
