My wife and I were across the street from the restaurant on business and we decided to take a chance on the food. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and it was delicious, it reminded me of a chicken club sandwich, it came with chips and crinkle cut pickles. It was enough to fill me up. We will be eating there again soon. My wife ordered the cheese omelette with diced fried potato's and toast It too was delicious, she said. The waitress was very helpful and extremely courteous, she even checked on the pickles for me because I have a dye allergy. Come on in and give them a try. My grandparents lived in the area so we always came here for breakfast when we came up to visit them. My girlfriend and I were passing through on the way up north for the weekend so we decided to see if it was as good as I remember from my childhood. It was even better then I remember! Sadly we had a bad experience today at Riverside. Employees are nice. Food this time was not. My western omelette was bad not flavor at all but what most bothered us was the tons of flies around the tables and windows. We had to eat faster and go out of the place bc that, but before that I shared my discomfort with the cashier which take it as "oh well". They need to fumigate the whole place because we won't back if this issue is not fixed. read more

After having an unpleasant experience next door at "the other side", we came here. The place could be spruced up a bit but our waitress was nice and the food was made to order and pretty darn good. A lot of meat and the portions (other that the side salad which needs a lot more lettuce), we're good. It has a beautiful view out back. Obviously a hit with locals because the place was full by 5:3o pm. Good selection of items with daily specials on a board inside. My burger was medium rare as requested (which rarely happens elsewhere). Fries were crispy and onion rings were hot and crunchy. Table mates has liver and onions and the Italian beef sandwich. Both were happy. Famous for their pies. Dutch apple was very good. Waitress Ashley was very friendly and attentive. In Freeland not far from airport. Check them out. read more

Unfriendly manager today who approached my table, unrequested, after I was eating my remade hot sandwich. She tried to grab the plate that had the sandwich that was made incorrectly, but it had my only fries (cold) that I'd ordered. She said I'd have to pay for the incorrectly made sandwich if I took it home, and I was only trying to eat my French fries with my remade hot sandwich! The fries were not remade so were not hot when remade sandwich arrived. I didn't complain or ask for hot fries but I certainly didn't expect her rudeness. She also said the waitress was new, as if that had anything to do with the situation! Very disappointing meal I was trying to have with my elderly father since I live out of state , and it's one of his favorite places and doesn't have much time left with loved ones. Decided to stop here after driving around in nearby countryside and have lunch. The place was hopping around noon on a Saturday. Upon entering you're greeted by a bulletin listing their dozen or so types of pie and I knew I was in the right place. I would have loved to just have a sampling of each type of pie and called that my meal but I don't think it was an option. The menu was extensive with all the favorites such at hot roast beef sandwich, burgers and all day breakfast if you wanted. I decided to eat light with soup as I needed to have room for the pie! I figured I better get my pie order in right away so they wouldn't be out of my chosen favorite before I was done with soup. The chicken noodle soup had very wide noodles, not enough chicken and broth was too thin and had no flavor. Thank goodness the strawberry rhubarb pie met all expectations though-very large piece, good consistency, and excellent crust! My sister had the roast beef sandwich which had a fat layer of thinly sliced beef and a nice gravy on the mashed potatoes. Brother elected to have a breakfast meal of eggs and a large serving of corned beef hash. They both felt their meals were great. It's obvious this restaurant is quite popular and worth stopping at if you're going through Freeland, Michigan. read more
