Cannot recommend enough ! Our2 yo son has had a fear of hair cuts since birth and finally needed to get his first official cut. Ms Lisa relaxed us as the parents just as much as our son as the client :). She did an excellent job and had lots of tricks up her sleeve to keep him calm and comfortable. I took my 16mo yesterday for his first haircut and I thought lucky us, we ended up with Ms. Lisa herself. She pointed in the chair for him to sit in and I started to tell her it's his first haircut... she immediately waved me off and told me to go sit on the side. That she has 20 years of experience and this was her fourth "first haircut" of the day. That he's going to cry because she's a stranger with scissors and that he'll stop if my husband and I just smile and clap from our chairs. No time to build rapport with him, show him the cape/buzzer, anything to help. I should've trusted my gut and just scooped my kid up and left but myself, husband, and 5 year old were already there. He of course was immediately screaming and crying and Ms. Lisa kept yelling at my husband and I to clap and smile. Anytime I said "it's okay!" she told me stop that immediately because "that's what you say when a child gets hurt". At this point he is screaming, crying, yelling mama over and over and again because he's a literal BABY. Anytime my husband or I "slipped" and said, "it's okay" she would call us pushovers! The longest 15 minutes of my life goes by and I take my baby and leave. We get out into the parking lot and my 5 year old bursts into tears because she just had to watch her baby brother terrified while no one helped him. Also adding, she didn't even ask what we wanted for a haircut, she just started cutting before I stopped her to show her a picture. read more

I brought my daughter for a haircut with Ms. K and I was incredibly disappointed in the service. Ms. K was late and didn't apologize or acknowledge that she was late. She rushed through the haircut and forced a mask on my 2 year old child. When I asked if this was necessary, she said yes that every child has to wear one. When I looked over to the grade school aged child in the next chair, he was maskless. My child left the haircut with completely wet hair. We've had good experiences with Ms. Lisa in the past, but very disappointed with Ms. K. We will not be coming back. read more

Ms. Lisa used to work back in the day at the Kid's Redken Salon she's cut my son's hair back there maybe twice or so while there. They eventually closed and I have been looking for a new salon for my son because Barber for whatever reason loves to cut my son's neck. Those guys are just so rough... Anyways, I digress... I booked an appointment to see Lisa, which is very easy to do. You visit her website, book a time and day and pay online. Everything is done in advance and this makes things easy. The only con I have is that her salon is located inside the One Decatur Towncenter building ((Dekalb Chamber), and you have to pay $10 for parking. It's not her fault, though I am shocked the leasing company doesn't offer her customers at least 45 minutes of free parking. It's literally only 1-2 customers at a time (30-minute hair-cutting sessions). The owner Miss Lisa has a profound sense of self importance and no skills in customer service. I drove an hour to get a first haircut for my baby and encountered a closed salon with an Out to Lunch sign. Since the pre-appointment communication showed that they are pretty aggressive in enacting late fees, I did my best to get there 10 minutes early and waited outside with my daughter. I called asking to reschedule or receive a refund, then when I received a text back said I would wait until 5 minutes after my appointment time. When Miss Lisa finally arrived, she made no attempt to greet me or apologize for the wait. She immediately had a defensive attitude and asked me if I could read her sign. Her attitude and the insult questioning my literacy only escalated the situation. It was already clear at that point that she did not intend on receiving my daughter as a client. This was extremely upsetting and I do admit I reacted in an ugly way to her escalation. It is clear however that what she is accustomed to is lecturing others and always being in the right, because she further escalated by trying to tell me how I should raise my daughter, screaming in the street that I was harassing her, telling me I was the entitled one, and calling the police. I work in a customer facing role myself and this is what I would have done and the minimum of what I expected: a courteous response to my voicemail explaining that she would be there soon, a greeting and a "sorry for the wait" upon arrival. Wonderful experience! My 3 year old hates the clippers. The stylist talked to him through it, kept him distracted from it and praised his efforts to stay calm. Our family utterly adore Ms. Lisa. She's cut our little guy's hair since he was 2 years old (his wasn't the kind of hair that grew very fast in this early years, haha). She is incredible with kids. All kinds, the quiet ones (those are rare though), the scared ones, the crying and screaming ones, the ticklish ones, and the wiggling ones. My kid moves and giggles a ton. She'll never tell him to stop or to hold still. It's seriously something to marvel. Over the last year, we have been to Ms. Lisa's quite a number of times. Luckily we had seen her right before lockdown and while we were being extremely cautious (and continue to be somewhat conservative in our activities), we had to give in and go mid-May last year when the little dude's hair was getting unwieldy. Which it actually probably couldn't really get but still, it was longer than we'd leave it pre-pandemic. We would go five more times after that and we have an appointment lined up. The one thing our kid misses (as I'm sure other kiddos do too) is being able to go in the play room and just play. He'd play before as he waited for it to be his turn and he'd make us stay until we dragged him out afterwards too. One day we'll be back to that. We just got back from the little one's haircut - and it was a great first experience. The whole thing didn't take longer than 20 minutes. Lisa was patient and playful with her tiny customer who was intent on not staying still. Though she had back-to-back appointments, she didn't act like she had to hurry through to make it to the next. Love that the hair is off the little one's eyes and ears (for the time being). Look forward to going back! Facilities: There's a changing table in one corner for babies, some picture books, and a toy room for slightly older children. There's a ramp at the entrance, so it's easy to use a stroller. Parking: We were lucky to find parking on the street right outside the salon. There's also a parking lot ($5) right next to it. My son normally gets his hair cut by my mother-in-law. We save money, that's true, but I never know how it's going to turn out. She's been in the hospital for the past few months so when his hair started to cover his ears, I knew it was time to find a kids specialty salon as my son is quite the squirmy worm. This was his very first trip to a hair cut place so I wanted his experience to be a positive one. I've read rave reviews in Yelp and on my neighborhood group's site and this salon is about 15 minutes away so I booked an appointment online for Saturday morning in the same week. On the way there I got lost and called the salon in which I ended up leaving a voicemail. I quickly received a callback from Ms. Lisa who gave me directions and personally stood outside until I was able to find her. So the thing is, it's a little tricky to find because the entrance is next to a bank drive thru (door is to the left of the drive thru). You will turn right (after the Decatur Welcome center) and enter a parking area but instead of turning right to park, you turn left directly behind the building and there are 30-minute parking spots. I believe the haircut took only 15 minutes of my time so not having to pay for parking in downtown Decatur is a plus! I was flustered since I was running a few minutes behind schedule, but Ms. Faith was very friendly. We put my son in the Lightening McQueen car and he focused in on the Paw Patrol episode running on the tv right away. I was convinced. They know kids! Ms. Faith started cutting my son's hair right away and was done in a matter of minutes like it was nothing. My son hardly moved and I didn't hear the crying and screaming that I was anticipating. After the haircut, he chose his flavor of lollipop. Overall, a very positive experience for both him and myself! Based on the reviews, I brought my checkbook with me because I thought they only accepted cash/checks. They seemed to have upgraded since that review from a few years ago and I was able to use my credit card to pay along with adding a tip on a touchscreen monitor - pretty advanced pay system. I also received an email copy of my receipt through Square. Will definitely visit again in time for Fall school pictures! We just got lil man's first haircut! Shuree (I may bre spelling her wrong!) did an amazing job! Baby Santiago was twisting and turning, trying to grab the scissors, trying to escape the chair, and causing all sorts of shenanigans but you could tell the stylist was experienced and SO patient! I liked the racecar and airplane seats for the littler kids and the TVs to help distract them. We were in and out, too. I didn't think our first cut would be so painless! read more

We love this place~!! Ms. Lisa and her staff do a great job at making both the kids and parents feel comfortable when it comes to using scissors close to our little ones. They have a race car and airplane chair for the kids to sit in. They also have individual TVs for the kids to watch and they get to pick out what DVD they want to see. The staff knows how to deal with wiggly crying kids. My daughter did not cry here, which I was so happy surprised about. The location is kind of tricky to see from Clairmont because it is next to the drive thru for a bank. It costs about $18-$22 per child and they do not take CC. Bring cash. read more

Find the 125 Clairemont Ave building, big office building. Now as you look at it from the street, head over to the right hand side of the building. Keep going. Tucked in the back right hand corner is Ms Lisa's. Parking is on street or a deck in the back that costs a damn fortune on the weekends. Bring quarters and just park on the street. This place is small but super cute. Each station is a car or an airplane, and has a TV playing great kids movies to distract the little ones from the scissors flying around their heads. Since this was my son's first haircut, he was not sitting still, and his head was moving all around looking at all the stuff going on around him. However our stylist Ms. Kahleelah, did such a great job considering my son wouldn't stop moving. We got the standard "little boy" haircut, which I'm fine with. If you want something that is not the standard little boy haircut, let them know. We were in and out in less than 25 minutes, which I loved! We will be back until my son is old enough to know how to sit still for a barber! read more

They don't seem to be familiar with African American hair. First, The stylist tried de tangle my son sons natural hair while dry and with a medium tooth comb. I had to ask her to please wet his hair. Not to mention his cut is completely uneven!!! Thankfully his hair grows back fast. read more

For a picture day, my hubs insisted our toddler get a professional haircut. FYI, she has VERY little hair--thanks to both her father and me. I was convinced that with my amazing Barbie-haircutting experiences that I could do the job myself. I'm so glad I went to Miss Lisa. She lured me to the dark side (aka admitting my husband was right). My daughter's bob was absolutely perfect and adorable. I was proud of my bebe because she sat through the whole ordeal without a peep. Miss Lisa even joked that she wasn't "challenging" enough. :) But I'm sure 1) sitting in the cool airplane chair 2) having a personal TV screen playing her favorite show and 3) Miss Lisa's cool and calm demeanor had a lot to do with my daughter's good behavior. Ms Lisa is great! We've been to several other places in town. Ms Lisa has it all: convenience, service, and talent. I love the ability to book my appointments online. I love Ms Lisa's pleasant personality and the relaxed atmosphere of the salon. My husband noted that she knows everything the kids are interested in and talks to them in a way that you know that she really likes and "gets" them. Finally, I am impressed with the cuts. I can't tell you how many compliments I've had on my 3 year old's hair. Maybe I should get Ms Lisa to start cutting my hair! I took my son there for his first hair cut back in April. They were very warm and welcoming and they did an awesome job trying to make my son as comfortable as possible with this experience (he HATES having anything done to his hair and will fuss, scream and cry the whole way through). It was a very relaxing atmosphere and my son did not cry once (though he did try to escape from the shampoo chair :-) ). Also, my son is biracial and I had been struggling with finding the right hair care regiment for him. It was a concern of mine when choosing a place to get his hair cut that it would be a place that both catered to children and had experience caring for a wide range of hair types. Miss Lisa's definitely provided both those things. Not only did my son come out of there with a very handsome "big boy" hair cut, they made sure the experience was very positive for all of us. Thank you to the Yelp reviewers who pointed us in Miss Lisa's direction! We just moved to the area and therefore had not yet found a hairstylist for our little 2-year-old. She was in need of a haircut so we took her to a strip mall for a quick trim. It turned out to be the worst haircut: obviously lopsided and uneven. My husband wanted me to take her back to have it fixed but given that first attempt, I did not want them to try again. Thankfully, I found Miss Lisa through the reviews on this site. She just moved into her new salon (no longer the back room described by other reviewers) located in the building right across the Holiday Inn. It is a very nice salon with four chairs, two fun chairs (airplane and car) and two regular ones. There are TV screens and multiple DVDs to choose from. While waiting, your child can enjoy the toys (including a full Thomas train set) and books in the playroom. Of course the best part was the haircut! Before starting, Miss Lisa examined my child's hair and her head shape. We discussed the desired style clearly. During the cut, Miss Lisa was very patient and skilled at handling my child's occasional fidgeting. The resulting haircut was exactly what I wanted and beautifully done. (As an aside, the haircut of the boy she did before my child was also very good.) As a bonus, Miss Lisa braided the front lock of my child's hair to keep it out of her face. My child also got the choice of a lollipop or a stamp as a treat. I would HIGHLY recommend Miss Lisa to anyone! read more

I have been there with my daughter 3 times now and have been happy overall with the cut. It is always very fast, which is a plus with a 2 and a half year old. They always do a cute little braid and hair jewels. The woman that works the front desk is always nice and very cordial. I do have some constructive criticism. All three times, the person cutting my daughter's hair did not say anything to her except how to "look down" to cut her hair and "sit up straight". Not one word past that. I feel like if you are going to cut someone's hair, especially children, you should introduce yourself and at least say hello to the person you are getting physically close to (with your hands on their head and holding scissors). Secondly, my daughter was a little confused and jumpy when the person turned on the hair dryer. My suggestion is to show the child the hair dryer and tell them you are going to use it. The child will be a little more prepared if they are not used to it. The actual shop is very kid-friendly (toys, books, racecar and airplane chairs). They could really take it a step farther if they would engage (just a little) with the child they are giving a haircut to. Thanks. read more

My experience was really, really bad. I wrote a review on Ms. Lisa's website that was deleted within minutes so I felt the need to post my first ever Yelp review because I would have appreciated the warning. This was my child's first cut 3 days prior to 4th birthday. I asked the stylist to wait a moment until my spouse finished parking (really bad parking situation...$5 lot, parking garage under construction, or city street parking). She immediately started spraying and brushing ignoring my request (this was our 1st cut!). I pulled up a picture and tried to explain to her what I wanted. She just stared at us as if she didn't care or understand. She didn't even part the hair, she just cut as it fell out of her clip. I asked for layers which she twice repeated, but no layers were cut. Choppy and uneven, no style, character or personality in the cut at all. I could have achieved the same cut with a bowl at home. Before I even noticed our "baby locks" had been swept away. No apology. They knew from the booking, check in and conversation that this was our first cut. I cried on the way home. I have a repair appointment scheduled with Aveda for this evening as our 4th bday pictures are Tuesday. I think it is unethical and poor business practice to delete customer feedback. My experience was my experience. Others have clearly had good experiences as all the reviews on Ms. Lisa's site were good. They could have communicated with me. Apologized. Taken my feedback to coach a team member and improve the customer experience for all. Instead they deleted me. I should have done more research. I have posted two pictures of our haircut. I've taken my son here about 5 times now and have only been satisfied with his haircut once which was done by Ms. Lisa. The other stylists have done awful jobs. The most recent haircut my son got was so bad that I will not be returning anymore. It is choppy and completely uneven. The stylist (Celita?) asked what I wanted and then completely disregarded what I said. Plus she was really unfriendly. Cannot thank Miss Lisa enough! My little boy's cut was so great - I had her cut mine, too!! We both have double crowns (makes it hard to get an even cut) and I have hair that is a challenge for any hairdresser, and yet - when she was done - it looked FABULOUS and - it was affordable!!! The toy room kept my son busy while I got my cut - and he took to Miss Lisa right away because she is so nice, and you can tell she truly likes kids! We already booked our next appointment! Miss Lisa used to cut our kids hair at Salon Red Kids in Decatur, and now she has opened her own shop. She's in the back of The Cottage Beauty Studio, right around the corner from her old location at Salon Red. She still has race cars for the kids to sit in, and she still has a video for them to watch. But the new location doesn't have Salon Red's toy store attached, so no more temper tantrums when the kids leave because I won't buy them a $85 toy truck or a $12 piece of candy. Miss Lisa gives the best kids cuts in town - we always get compliments on my daughter's hair - and her prices are very reasonable. We highly recommend her. read more

Miss Lisa used to cut my son's hair at Salon Red when he was a toddler (he's now almost six!). Then we lost track of her and one day I saw her at the Farmer's Market and I was so happy to see her I almost tackled her (while that sounds like an exageration, it isn't). She has now opened up her own beautiful salon in the first floor of the building in front of the Decatur Holiday Inn. The space is wonderful - big windows, big mirrors, two fun chairs for the kids (airplane and Lighting McQueen), TVs with the DVD players playing kids' cartoons, and the pièce de résistance - a well-stocked train table that the kids can play with, and, more importantly, you don't have to worry about having to buy it. Now why should you take your kids here? Well, beyond the fact that she's a nice lady, she can seriously cut hair. Yes, my son is one of those that has not stayed still, does not stay still, and probably will never stay still. Somehow, she always manages to give him a great haircut. No bowl cuts here! And currently, she charges $15 for kids' haircuts, which is a good price for a great haircut. read more

This was my sons first real haircut. We had botched his haircut at home trying to do it ourselves.. So I browsed through yelp looking for a kids salon and came upon this gem. Miss Lisa is amazing and alleviated any anxiety I had as a parent bringing in my one year old to get a professional haircut. My 3 1/2 year old has wildly curly blond hair. It is beautiful but she would cry endlessly whenever I tried to comb out the knots. I was about ready to shave her bald. Miss Lisa said all she needed was a trim. I was skeptical. Well not only did she give my daughter the best cut she ever had, she also taught me the best way to take care of her hair. We used to go to Salon Red Kids, but switched to Miss Lisa once we heard about her. She is more expensive than Salon Red Kids (SRK), but well worth the difference. She takes time with my 1.5 year old son to make sure he is comfortable and having fun. He loves the race car seat and videos to watch. Miss Lisa takes the time to make sure the cut is done well! As the previous reviewer noted, SRK has a store at the front of its salon, which my son always rampaged...exhausting for me!
