So naturally, I was pretty nervous for my first color job. However, Maria and Sofia did a great job! I felt comfortable and enjoyed bouncing hair ideas around with them. Not only did Sofia keep my hair long, she transformed my mess of hair into soft, bouncy layers that are easy to manage. Maria did a great job transforming my hair into an ombre work of art. I love Groupon and Living Social. I've discovered more great places via good deals I've purchased from these sites and Salon Marsof is no exception. The mother/daughter team of Sofia and Maria Poulos have opened a gem of a hair salon beside of Cafe Lily in downtown Decatur. Sofia has been a stylist for 37 years (she proudly told me) and she proceeded to give me a wonderfully shaped cut just to prove it. But not before Maria worked some wonders with my highlights! All the while, these beautiful Greek ladies fussed over my foils, consulting each other in Greek (Maria told me "You're gonna learn some Greek!"), and working back and forth among several clients giving each one special attention. I just moved from out of state to Decatur, and a girl always worries if she'll be able to replace her trusted hair stylist. Worry no more! Sofia is such a nice lady- warm and friendly without being overly nosy or chatty....and most importantly, gave a great haircut. My hair is fairly easy to cut (it's straight with long layers) so my salon visits are usually rated to the things other than the actual haircut- hair wash, head massages, ambiance, beverage offerings, magazine selection, friendliness of stylist, hair drying & styling, styling products, and of course, value. With these things, this salon delivers! The salon here is cozy and not overly fancy or trendy. Love love LOVE this place! From start to finish this was an excellent experience and a beautiful cut and style. Maria and Sofia worked on me together, and I ended up with exactly what I wanted (and didn't even have to say much.... they are telepathic stylists! ^^) A new fresh layered look without losing the length I'm trying to grow out. I bought a Groupon Now and made an appointment within the hour. I was in and out within 45 minutes without feeling rushed, and feeling very cared for. I called a few times trying to make an appointment. On the third day, I left a message that I was trying to make an appointment. A few hours later I received a text message asking me if I was a current or new customer. I said I was new and the style of color and cut I'm looking for, if there is a stylist who would be best. I never heard a response. I guess I can't make an appointment? Text messaging isn't a professional means of communication. It's a shame. I have long straight hair and asked for two inches to be taken off and long layers put in. Exactly what I got and my hair looked great. Salon Marsof is located in downtown Decatur. There are three stylists - Mother/Daughter team and a barber. The Salon is comfortably decorated and provides a soothing atmosphere. I've been a client of Kristye for many years and several salons. She does a great job of collaborating with me on styles that will work for my hair type. I especially appreciate the time that she takes to get the cut just right. Often I get two haircuts - one while my hair is wet and then one after she dries it and sees how it is falling. She is also great about texturizing my thick hair. Over the years, she has colored my daughter's hair various trendy colors and she know also cuts my teenage son's hair. If you have very long hair, Amanda is a great go-to stylist. She didn't try convincing me to cut off more/donate, trimmed off the amount I asked for, and gave great layers. She also gave tips on anti-frizz products which she told me I could get on Amazon (i.e., no upselling!). All in all, a really great experience. I have tried many salons and "friends" salons in my time. We have been in Georgia for two years, and I have tried a few salons since being here, using online web deals to paying full price. I have thoroughly enjoyed, and been happy with my hair at Salon Marsof. I have had my hair colored, had the keratin treatment twice, my hair trimmed, and three of my girls have had haircuts there. Maria is excellent with color, and Sofia cuts better than anyone I've ever been too. They are located in a chic little area in downtown Decatur. Their salon is clean, decorated beautifully, and they are always bending over backwards to make sure you are happy. After leaving the salon and getting home, I realized I wanted a cut that was done a little shorter, and they got me in the next day, and were happy to accommodate. Excellent customer service! Excellent online deals, and even if they aren't running any offers, prices are excellent compared to other salons. I can't say enough about this salon. I have enjoyed knowing there is a reliable place to get my hair done and my girls' hair done, reasonably priced, and I know we will LOVE how we look when we leave. read more

Big shout out to ScoutMob for featuring this fabulous salon! My story begins with a night of wine and box dye. Never a good way to start a story about hair... As a blonde for the past 4 years or so, I had been feeling a bit antsy for change so when my little girl decided that blonde was beautiful and ONLY blonde was beautiful, I defiantly decided to prove to her that beauty comes in many shades.... well, except that one I ended up with. The phosphorescent nightmare that developed on my poor, shocked head was Carrot-top on crack. The next day I endured being called Ariel, Wilma, Jessica Rabbit... and was advised of a deal on Scoutmob for this salon. Not that I would have needed the deal! When I checked their website, the prices were so much more reasonable that some that I have paid here in Atlanta. I called and explained my predicament and made an appointment for the next morning. When I walked in Maria met me at the desk and realized the gravity of the situation. No worries- she was cool like cucumber. She and Mama Sofia plopped me down and began assessing the damage I had done to my tresses. We poured over magazines so that I could show them what I had been hoping to achieve and found my new goal: a dark, rich copper that gleamed. They mixed an individualized concoction just for me, blending different colors to make the magic happen. They proceeded cautiously, doing a test strip (never once in all my years has a professional colorist done a test strip to ensure that I was going to get what I wanted!). The color was perfect, so they began the painstaking work of covering all of my long long thick hair. Once done, I sat and simmered while they bustled around with other customers and chatted. The mother/daughter dynamic is charming! It felt like being at home on Thanksgiving. Completely real, no pretentiousness (another issue I feel I run into at many salons). After rinsing Maria deep conditioned my hair to restore its luster and then Mama Sofia began the cut, preserving the length I love but weeding out the dead, tired ends. After a blow out and flat iron I got to see the finished piece. Perfection!! I will be back again and again. Thank you ladies for saving me from myself. I read all the five-star reviews and checked their website, which indicates that they can handle Asian hair. It was wonderful that I was able to make an appointment for the next day. Maria and Sofia were very friendly, engaging in interesting conversations. However, I had the worst hair cut & perm in my life. I had straight Asian hair before the hair cut and perm. I walked out of the salon with very small curls all over my head, which didn't look flattering at all. But I was told to wait for 10 days for the real results to show. It has been almost three weeks, and I look terrible! My hair is now very frizzy without any style (they fried my hair)! I try to hide my fried and unhealthy-looking hair by braiding everything together. I definitely look much worse after spending $200 over there. I really wanted to give "one star" for this review, but I decided to give "two stars" because they spent 1.5 hours on perming my hair carefully (even though it was definitely not what I want to have). read more

I discovered the salon with Livingsocial and I'm so glad I did. I was shopping around for a new hairdresser since my old one had moved around so much then decides to jack my price up by $20. I couldn't justify paying that kind of price. I had the cut and color deal and Maria was really friendly but with a very matter fact tone on the phone made the appointment. Since then I've come back to get my haircut here and it's been a great experience. I've found a new home. The prices are reasonable and Sofia and Maria are really nice ladies. It's always easy for me to get an appointment. I've never had to wait for my appointment when I arrive. I show up a little early and they take me in. The salon is small and cozy and not pretentious at all. It has a very down to earth vibe. I show her pictures of how I want my hair cut and she gives me exactly what I ask for.
