**AVOID** First time getting a Brazilian here. The wax was TOO hot and she burned the inside of my left thigh and the inside of my lady parts. OUCH! I don't normally write reviews. But this was my first wax. When I walked into the place I wasn't sure if I was at the right place or not because the downstairs is a hair salon. It was a young lady sitting at the top of the stairs I asked was I at the right place. She seemed annoyed (may have been cramping idk). It kind of set the tone but I didn't address it. When I got upstairs the place smelled liked medicine or something. The 1 thing that turned me completely off was the girl who did my wax touched her phone to change the music with her gloves on and then ripped the wax off of my vagina. She talked me through the entire process and gave me some tips on how to care for my skin post wax. I also liked how she used both hard and soft wax. She made sure to explain why she used the hard wax in certain areas opposed to using soft wax. I learned something new that day because I didn't know the difference between the two waxes. Pretty much every good thing I can say about MSI Beauty and Ancill has already been stated, so rather than being redundant I'll just say to make sure to check this place out. I found a coupon for them on Groupon . I took advantage of it . Got my appointment the next day . Walked upstairs to a nice smelling small suite. I was greeted by my esthetician , Felicia. I completed paperwork in about 2-4 minutes. We went back into a clean room. She told me to get undress , and cover myself . She stepped up & gave me sometime to myself. She came back , I got into a butterfly position . She told me everything she was about to apply to my skin , and what she was about to do. It WAS MY FIRST WAX & I WAS NERVOUS. We talked the whole time, not even about the wax. She took my mind off of the procedure. It went for about twenty minutes , and I was done. Smooth nice looking . I had a full Brazilian with Ancill at the end of December and I was incredibly pleased with the job she did!!! She uses both soft and hard wax which means she gets every little hair that is hiding. She was gentle and made me feel very relaxed and comfortable. Plus she offered me excellent advice on how to deal with ingrown hairs so that i don't damage my skin or hair follicles. She is clearly an EXPERT in what she does and takes pride in her work. Whereas others charge you for every little extra thing they do (like a few stray hairs on your happy trail) she considers them part of the larger picture and wouldn't consider her job complete if she hadn't taken care of them. A purchased a Groupon for a Brazilian wax at MSI about 2 weeks ago and I had a great experience. Felicia did my wax and she was relaxed and very professional. We talked the entire duration of the treatment and she treated me kindly and respectfully. The only negative thing I can say was that MSI is located above a hair salon and the signage isn't great, so you wouldn't find it if you weren't looking for it. Also, if the hair salon isn't open, the door will be locked. If you knock loud enough, someone from MSI will come answer the door for you. 5 stars honestly isn't enough. Ancill is wonderful! I got my first Brazilian when I lived in Pittsburgh 2 years ago. Once I moved to DC I was nervous to try someone new so I went back to shaving (bad move). After a diligent search on Yelp, I found MSI and have been raving about them since. The salon is impeccably clean. Ancill will talk you through the process to distract from the pain and she moves very quickly so the pain is minimal (it does hurt though, don't get it twisted lol). The environment is very tranquil and she ensures your complete comfort and privacy. Ancill is worth every penny and knows so much about skin care. Do not go here for a Brazilian wax. Or at all. She has no idea what she's doing and doesn't wax the hair in the right direction, so the hair just breaks and doesn't actually come out. Not to mention that the place is absolutely filthy and disgusting. There is stuff literally splattered on the walls and the rest of the place is dank and there are huge brown water marks from leaks, all over the ceiling and down the walls, and the place has clearly never ever been dusted or vacuumed. There are cobwebs and dust all over. So nasty. I guess that's why their services are so cheap! You get what you pay for folks! read more

I am from Baltimore and working on the Hill temporarily until December. I needed a wax - today. I tried 4 places based on YELP reviews. 2 were booked and I left messages for 2. Ancil returned my call for msi Beauty Studio and I beleive it was divine intervention. I talked to her at 10:30 and she agreed to take me at 12:15. I could have walked but instead I used Uber for $5 and got there without sweating. Meticulous, clean, caring. Those are just three words I can use to describe Ancil and my waxing treatment today. On arrival (early) Ancil was ready. The waxing area is a small room on the second floor of a beauty salon, but don't let that dissaude you. The room was clean and the treatment bed had layers of clean paper and a towel for me to cover. Ancil had music playing which I enjoyed and we both actually sang along a little bit. Ancil had me complete a questionnaire and then she asked me some questions about my skin and hair removal regimen. She took a look at my legs and commented on my dry skin (I have eczema). but her comments were in a concerned way - not mean. She recommended an oil which i will be trying. Ancil was all business when she started. She put my legs in several positions to get all the hair. She gave me a disposable panty for the bikini wax. My legs are baby smooth and Ancil even tried to get those stubbly hairs from my desperate shaving episode a couple weeks ago. Another lady was waiting when I finished and I saw Ancil take the paper from the table and also the towel and replace it with clean items. Ancil will be my go to person for waxing until I return to Baltimore. I have to admit I like her far better than my person in Baltimore and will be looking for someone else when I return. read more
