We arrived quite early, but were immediately accommodated with fresh juice and muffins. The rooms are elaborate and well kept with such beautiful history to learn about! The rest of the hotel was so beautiful and despite being an old house, still looked like it had been built yesterday thanks to the efforts of the staff. You will definitely enjoy the breathtaking view along with the rich food. Also, your stay will be unforgettable thanks to the staff, namely Kami, Maria and especially Chris, who takes care of everyone with a smile on his face. His service is the best by far! What a beautiful place! Three course lunch was worth every penny. The roasted chicken was juicy and tasty.

Wow this place is amazing. Spectacular views, quiet -- secluded away from the tourist traps downtown with friendly and warm service. This is the place I want to come to when I want a quiet, relaxing vacation. From the moment you arrive on Avalon to the time you leave they take good care of you. Their driver picks you up from the port. When you get to house, you get a tour of the historic Wrigley property. Yes Wrigley as in Wrigley Field and the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs used to have their spring training on Catalina. They really make you feel at home. There's always hot tea, coffee, freshly baked cookies, chips and nuts. There's ice cream (with various toppings in the cupboard) and wines in the kitchen you can freely access. You can lounge indoors in front of the cozy fireplace, sit indoors in the sun room that looks over the town, or bask in the sun in one of their outdoor lounge chairs. When you get tired of the spectacular views, there's a piano you can play, a library of books to read and a small collection of recent DVDs to watch. Wth your room you get a full breakfast, full lunch and evening appetizers. And there's an open bar. They'll pack the food for you if you have some place to go. You also get your own golf cart to drive around town. Yes the initial price is steep. But when you factor in the personal service (they'll remember your name), the best views in town (it's private property so you only get to enjoy it if you're a guest), the seclusion, and all the included goodies (food, beverages, golf cart rental), it makes it all worth it. read more

We recently returned from a trip to Catalina for our wedding anniversary and stayed at the Inn on Mt. Ada for a few days. First the good... - Beautiful location. The views are to die for. It feels like you are a world away from everyday life. - Use of your own golf cart. That was so fun! - Shuttle service to and from the harbor. Taxis on Catalina are a huge rip off so this was very nice. - Food and alcohol are included in the price of the room. The food is very underwhelming for the price but still, it beats paying extra to eat out. The bad... - The service was awful! We paid a lot and expected to be treated well. The manager/inn keeper (Michael?) is just about as pretentious as can be. He will look down his nose at you as if he owned the place. Ummm, I'm pretty sure your last name isn't Wrigley, sir. Lose the attitude. - As previously mentioned, the food was really subpar. I enjoyed the $8 lunch I had in town more than the lunches I had at the Inn which they charge people $33 for. I the asked the waitress if it were possible for my salad to come out before the main entree, which seems like a fairly common/easy request to me. She looked at me, said "No" and walked off. Really? Just, "No"? Hmmm.... A few minor changes would make this place so much nicer! Change the faux flowers out for real flowers. Actually bake the "fresh-baked cookies" instead of placing Chips Ahoy out for everyone. Store the janitorial supplies out of plain sight. Maintain the grounds a bit better so we can enjoy some greenery, not weeds when we walk around the house. And most importantly, hire some service-oriented employees and you will have a real gem on your hands here. Until then, we will be staying in Hamilton Cove. read more

ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING ! My wife and I were here for our 25th anniversary, we are already planning our next visit. I can not say enough good things about our visit, but I'll try.... The customer service is very attentive and accommodating without being overpowering. From start to finish, Salvador, Joy, and Kris do everything they can to make your visit enjoyable. Gail, our server for breakfast and lunch, gave the hospitality of a B&B, with the professionalism of a fine restaurant. Carmen and Martha in the kitchen produce delicious selections. The "crab Benedict" is 5 star and my favorite. When you factor in everything that comes with your stay, the value is tremendous. Pre-breakfast bar. Wonderful breakfast and lunch. Wine and appetizers in the afternoon. Even ice cream at night! Probably the greatest value is unlimited use of your own golf cart (just check the cost of golf cart rental on the island). The Inn is beautiful as well as historical. The view is breathtaking. A very old mansion on the ocean requires high maintence. They do a wonderful job of it. There is a fine line between historical atmosphere and modern practical functionality, they walk that line magnificently. While sitting on the patio at night with a glass of Port (furnished of course), I kept anticipating Mr Wrigley to step out and join me! That is exceptional creation of atmosphere. So this is the summer home of Wrigley. It is an inn. I didn't stay at the inn, but I came in to do lunch. You can have lunch at this amazing home. it is a flat rate, unlimited wine, beer, and drinks and the best view of the island for about $35 or something. If you want to come, call first and make a reservation. You can reserve it like the same minute you walk through the door. Just call. If you try to walk up the gates, it doesn't quick work. And they will tell you how to get through the door. You can stay there until 3 pm. The food is OK. I am not that much fan of the food, but for the view it is definitely worth it. read more

I don't think five stars is enough. This spacious estate offers comfortable rooms, amazing food, and the most luxury anywhere in Avalon, or on the entire island. The Inn is a converted mansion, once the estate of the late William Wrigley (yes, the gum guy!), so you know it's got all the luxury and comfort of a 19th-century mansion. Immediately upon registering for our room, we were greeted with Champagne and lunch, all complimentary for guests of course. The food was excellent, and the dining area offers fresh open air with an amazing view of Avalon bay and the casino. Also included is one golf-cart per room, and since there aren't cars allowed for guests, this is a huge plus (these carts can run $40/day from a rental company). The rooms are quite comfortable, each with its own bathroom straight out of a story book, most of which offering amazing panoramic views. The bed we had was a double, but it was so comfortable it was plenty big for two! At night, nothing better than relaxing by the fire with a glass of Port or Sherry, fresh cookies, and a fully stocked self-service kitchen full of drinks, snacks, and yes, an ice cream sundae bar! This is NOT a place for children, unless you want to bother the rest of the guests, but if you want a romantic getaway or luxurious accommodations on Catalina Island, this is the place to be. read more

5 star How about a good "get-away" weekend spot? For those in the Southern California area, this is it! Marlene and Michael were running things the weekend my bride and I spent in room 1 - the Grand Suite. Along with a small kitchen and housekeeping staff, the Inn at Mt. Ada is an extremely clean and quiet inn which was at one time owned by Mr. & Mrs. William Wrigley. Although most folks will suffer sticker shock at the price of the various rooms. On balance with what is included (i.e. full breakfast & lunch, 24 hour access to light refreshments, fruit, dessert, beer/wine and a golf cart) the prices are reasonable. Beyond the basics, the facility is top quality with the rooms well appointed and very comfortable. If you are unable to relax by staying at the inn, you need to reconsider your priorities. All of the staff are exceedingly gracious. We felt as though it was our house with the staff filling the role as housekeepers. Nice fantasy but only realized when the inn's personnel work very hard at meeting the requests of many demanding guests. Incredibly beautiful hotel and views, amazing value and impeccable 5-star service! From the moment we walked through the door, having been greeted with flutes of free champagne on the terrace overlooking the harbor by Sean the concierge, we stepped into a fantasy vacation immersed in history, romance and breathtaking service. Sean McAlpin was an incredible host who worked tirelessly to cater to our every desire or need. He romanced us with historical facts and stories that transported us to the roaring-20's when the Wrigley family built Mt. Ada as their personal residence, the casino ballroom/theater, the spring-training facility for the legendary Chicago Cubs, and the picturesque town of Avalon. Sean shared pictures of the past, baseball memorabilia from the '20's-30's, and stories of Catalina's history that made our visit take on a whole new meaning. We absolutely fell in love with Catalina and would never have fully appreciated it's charm and beauty if not for Sean's personal story-telling touch and 5-star pampered service. His personally guided tour of the Casino theater/ballroom was a highlight of the trip and he even played big-band music of the era as we stepped into the iconic ballroom. It was such an incredible experience, it was as if we could hear, see and smell what it was like to dance in the ballroom with Hollywood icons like John Wayne, Laurel & Hardy and many more throughout the early 20th century. Mt. Ada's charming rooms, complimentary 1st-class Porsche-powered golf-carts, exceptional food cooked by a master-chef named Carmen for the past 30+ years, and the complimentary, all-u-can-drink wine, beer or champagne makes it an incredible value. You won't find a better all-inclusive deal anywhere in the world! Sean's hospitality and pampering, prompted us to extend out stay and add additional nights. We never wanted to leave. We had a wonderful time. This Inn is sitting on the top of a hill that not only overlooks the ocean but gives you an overview of Avalon as a whole! We were so impressed! The staff is the best! When you walk through the door they make you feel like you have just walked into your own home. It is absolutely beautiful. Some of the reviews mentioned it is older--it's very old but that's exactly why we loved it so much. It takes you back in time (in your imagination) to early Catalina. It's spacious and the furnishings are perfect for the Inn. While staying there you get complimentary breakfast and lunch -- excellent! The service is perfect and the views are just spectacular. We stayed at the Avalon Hotel and while my husband was chatting with the concierge desk, he asked about the Wrigley mansion on the hill behind us. They told us we could arrange to have breakfast up there. She reserved it for us and were really glad we did this. If a hotel stay here is out of your price range then this is a great solution. They let you stroll round the grounds and relax in the beautiful panoramic downstairs sitting rooms for a few hours while your there and it includes a wonderful meal. We had our breakfast (with mimosa's) out on the terrace overlooking the harbor. It was beautiful and a relaxing experience. It's a 5 minute cab ride up the hill to get there. The inn keeper mentioned that it will soon be unavailable to the public so I highly recommend visiting here for at least a meal before USC takes it back and it's no longer available. I also recommend making the reservation when you first get to the island or even before you arrive because there was a 2 day wait for us and that was during the week. It was our last meal before we left for home and it was so relaxing to sit look down at the island from this beautiful vantage point while we sipped mimosas and enjoyed a great breakfast. read more

Hands down best view in Catalina! From the time we stepped off the helicopter and Ms. Lisa picked us up our stay has been fantastic. Everyone we encountered made us feel welcome and treated as we were family. Ms. Joy made sure anything we needed was taken care of, Sean introdued us to Bigfoot (the 6 toed house cat), Piere introduced us to the butler's pantry (more on this later). Staying at Mt. Ada was much more than a typical bed and breakfast and sets the standard for visitng Avalon. If you are given the opportunity you have to stay as a guest here at least once, a lunch reservation does not due it justice. I don't want to spoil all of the surprises, but a few favorites of ours were, the wine and cheese reception, the butlers pantry (access 24/7 to waters, sodas, wine, beers, snacks, and ice cream), and the overall fabulous service we recieved. My husband and I went to Mt. Ada for brunch. We were not staying there, we got asked quite a few times if we were staying there with a puzzled look on their face when we said no, just for brunch. Granted we don't look like we own a yacht, but we don't look like degenerates either. The food was so-so, but clearly a place like this you are going for the views and the experience over the food. The selection could have been better for $62/person. We got a voucher to eat there from a local fundraiser, so we technically paid more than face value for the vouchers (do it for the kids) but when they got that voucher the demeanor changed. They questioned where we got it, which is understandable if they haven't received one that looked like this. We explained where we got it and showed the email from the foundation we won it from. Apparently, your unlimited drinks get cut off once dessert is served. So, if you're going to enjoy the unlimited portion of this, hold off on ordering dessert. All in all, over-rated experience. Views were nice and the mansion was cool to see. Service was good most of the time. Minus the few times I didn't feel welcomed. read more

My husband and I stayed over the past weekend at Mt. Ada in the Windsor Suite for our anniversary. The views are breathtaking- and I found the staff to be extremely helpful and friendly. We had breakfast and lunch there both days, and the food and service were amazing. I love that guests get unlimited use of a golf cart through the whole stay, it made the trip and exploring the island that much better. Lisa and Sean were both so great, very friendly and going out of their way to make sure we're had everything we needed. We definitely will visit Mt. If I could give Mt. Ada more than 5 stars I would! A few months prior to this stay we had lunch up at Mt. Ada and absolutely fell in love. So my boyfriend booked a night here for my birthday, we arrived on a Monday. There wasn't many people staying so they offered to upgrade our room.. we ended up in the Grand Suite and we were speechless! We had originally booked the Garden Porch room so this was quite the upgrade. We had a private patio that overlooked all of the town that also had a table and two loungers. We enjoyed the complimentary snacks and drinks (you get access to the stocked pantry with chips, popcorn, ice cream, beverages) while taking in our view. We found it hard to want to leave when we were in paradise up there! Pierre went above and beyond to meet any of our needs we had, I'm not sure our stay would have been the same without him, he really completes the package and makes you feel as if you're right at home. We also enjoyed lunch, breakfast, and evening hors d'oeuvres, all of which were great! We loved having the golf cart to explore the town, and Pierre was able to figure out a schedule with the other guests so that we were able to use a cart after we checked out, until we had to catch our boat. Surprised my husband for his 50th birthday with a 2 night stay in Wrigley's suite. Loved the property and the history of it. Our room and enormous balcony that had 360' of the island were wonderful! Food was excellent and they treated us very nicely, kept the Mum champagne flowing. We did have a few problems that were disappointing but they handled it well and s#*t happens. Without the couple incidents I'd of given it 5 stars. Will we stay here again? Absolutely, it would be hard to stay anywhere else after our experience and feel you get a lot for your money with the golf cart, breakfast, lunch and evening wine and cheese. Probably wouldn't need to stay in the suite but glad we did. Biggest suggestion to hotel would be give your guests a number that if there's any problems or concerns they can be immediately addressed. There's literally nobody available to call, it goes to voicemail... other than that they were great! read more

Simply outstanding. It's an experience and you have to treat it like one. It's not for those who just want a hotel room, it's for those who want to experience something special and enjoy the indulgence. One to a few nights is a must do. Cosseted is the word that comes to mind. The service includes pickup at the ferry port or heli port, and you should aim to arrive in time for lunch. If you like a bit of history, the hosts will provide a fascinating insight. Appears pricey at first, but factor in the meals (breakfast and lunches), drinks and beverages, and the use of your own golf cart for the duration of your stay and the price is actually quite good. Service? Great. Privacy? Excellent. Views? Best on the island. Meals? Simple, but tasty. Accommodation? Check their website - they ain't foolin'! To give you an idea of the freedom of the place, try giving dinner in town a miss, got to the pantry and make a couple of ice-cream and fruit creations, add champagne and retire to your room. Beautiful place with great service. It was our anniversary so we decided to splurge and were glad we did. Although it was much more than what we usually spend, when you add up everything that comes with the room it's a great value for the money. Not only do u get lunch and breakfast, you also get a golf cart ($45 an hour if you purchase), tour of casino, spa, greens fees, Descanso Club entrance, snacks, wine etc. We had the smallest room which was fine for how little we wanted to be in it. Keep in mind this is NOT a review of the Inn as a place to stay but rather a review of the lunch special offered to non-guests of the Inn ONLY. My wife and I have been lunch guests of the Inn for over 10 years. Last year the Inn changed ownership and is now (sadly) run by the Santa Catalina Island Company. More on them later... The lunch special used to be a good value at $33pp which included your choice of several lunch items, and included open-bar wine, beer, soda, etc., and some extras like nuts, fruits, cookies, etc. As the Inn had not been open to lunch diners since the transition of ownership in the beginning of the year, we were pleased to find out that they had once again started to offer this only a week before we arrived on the island. Upon our arrival, we noticed they had removed several of the tables out on the balcony and the outdoor seating for lunch was now even more limited. Luckily, we got the last table. When we got our menus, we noticed that alcohol was now an extra and no longer included with your meal. When I asked my wife, who had made the reservation, she didn't remember them mentioning this to her. The meals were now $30pp, but Wine was now $8/glass and beer was $4-6 depending on the type. When we received our wine, they were pretty short pours for $8.The value was shrinking. On to the food. The menu had changed somewhat, but they still offered the daily "South of the Border" dish, which historically had been a full plate of Carnitas with all the trimmings, which was excellent and hearty. We were told the special that day was Chicken Fajitas which we were both equally excited to try. When we received them, we noticed not only were they not your typical "sizzling" fajitas, but rather some chicken pieces on the plate, and the portions (of everything) were considerably smaller. Upon completion of our meal we both felt unsatisfied. The value continued shrinking. The only upside to our dining experience was the small dessert that came with the meal and of course the views of Avalon. As I said, we have been coming here for over a decade and have never had an issue with the service, the food and its portions, or the value for your money, but this time we felt overcharged for what we received. At $60, 2 drinks each, tax & tip we were around $120, whereas in years past it was closer to $80 with all the free alcohol (which we typically had 2-3 drinks each over a 3-hr period). Add to that the $30 in RT cab fare required to reach the Inn, and this experience is sadly no longer a good value and we will not be returning. We have seen the changes on the island in the last dozen years or so and we, along with lots of people we speak to including residents and employees all over the island, agree that the Santa Catalina Island Company is slowly destroying the charm of the island for the sake of corporate-driven profit, and it's presence is noticeable all over Avalon as their ultimate goal is to turn the island into a playground for the wealthy. My boyfriend and I discovered that by booking here at the Inn, the entire island of Catalina became our playground. Transportation to the island, breakfast, lunch, and a nightly reception... a pantry fully stocked with ice cream and booze, , complimentary passes to many of the island recreational activities (including the day spa!) And golf cart available 24 hours, all offset the "big" price tag. We were VERY taken care of by all the staff but Joy was a absolute gem who made us feel like family. My wife and I had lunch here on Sunday. Our waiter, Sean M., was pleasant, but spent very little time with us and cut me off when I asked about the house. We didn't see him for long periods of times, but he spent a great deal of time at a table that wasn't even his. There were 4 Real Housewife types at another waiters table and he must have felt they we more lucrative. A women at another table looked as shocked as we were when he gave his card to the ladies and asked them to call him if they needed anything during their stay . He did come back to give us the final bill, but he ruined the experience at Mt. Ada for us (the pretty vulgar conversation of the housewives didn't help either). Sure, you get glasses of mediocre wine, but I'm not sure the $62 is worth the disappointing experience. Sean M. ruined the experience for us. I hope the Wrigley Rusack family reads this. read more

I went for lunch I did not stay the night. The views are nice and the inn is well taken care of, I am giving it 2 stars because we experienced bad service. We sat for our lunch and they had forgot my order of a drink. Food is good but for vegetarian or vegan options is not worth it it was to simple I honestly recieved half a cauliflower as my entree nothing special, sauce tasted like thousand island. The 2 stars are mostly because me and my partner felt like we had been forgotten we honestly had an untouched chicken sitting on our table for 30 minutes nobody wanted to pick it up. Our family (16 people) bought out Mount Ada for five days to celebrate our mom's 80th birthday. Mount Ada was a PERFECT place to gather because the property is gorgeous but comfortable, the views are spectacular and the service is outstanding! And the island offers so many types of activities - there was something for all ages to enjoy. No one was ever bored. The rooms are beautiful, the beds super comfortable and there are views from every room. The service there is OUTSTANDING.
