I was craving some curry so I decided to give this place a try after an Indian friend recommended it. I got the vegetarian thali and a mango lassi. The mango lassi was surprisingly good and didn't look radioactive nor taste like diabetes in a cup. I was mildly surprised at how not sweet it was. However the let down came with the chutneys. They all tasted kinda weird but I couldn't put my finger to it. The only one that taste normal was probably the green chutney. I avoided the other 2 almost completely. The thali itself was a good portion and satisfying. The daal curry was a little too thick and felt a little flat but everything else was great. The dessert (which is like a ferment rice dessert which I can never remember the name of) was again surprisingly not too sweet and I almost finished it. Service was nice and prompt. The only thing that was strange to me was how they chose to fill tables inside the restaurant first so I had to weaved in and out a little to get to my table. I have returned to this place a handful of times. It's some of the best Indian food I've ever had. Everything is so fresh and so is the naan. Typically the dishes range in prices of $13-$16 for their most popular foods. But it's worth it because I'm never able to finish everything in one sitting. So I usually get a second meal when I take it home. I usually get a lamb or chicken dish, like the gosht pasanda or curry chicken. There's only a slight hint of spiciness to it, so it's not overpowering. The wait-staff is very kind and helpful. We went on a Saturday night and while it was pretty busy in the restaurant we were still able to be seated immediately. After being seated, however, we waited a very long time to get our orders taken. I understand that the restaurant was busy, but considering the fact that taking someone's order is a fairly quick process, I was surprised that no-one came earlier, and it was also very hard to flag anyone down. We ordered the garlic naan, chicken tikki masala, and lamb curry. The naan came with 4 pieces and was absolutely delicious, I'd definitely get it again. As for the chicken and lamb I found the meat to be very dry and though the sauce was pretty good. I was also a bit surprised that even with the high prices of their menu items, you still have to order rice to go with them unless you get one of their bigger, more expensive dishes. The food came in small containers but was actually very filling with the rice and I was able to eat it for another meal. I think the quality isn't up to par for what you're paying and that they could have better service. I have some mixed feelings about this restaurant. I've only ever gotten take out so I can't say much about the service. Everything I've had from here is delicious. My favorite might be the chili chicken, it is soooo spicy. You're gonna need a box of tissues when you eat it. The garlic naan is very good. Recently I tried the chana masala (chick peas) and Dum aloo (sweet potato). It comes with white basamati rice. While the food is good, it's way too expensive. It's nice having the restaurant close by and convenience is the only reason I keep coming back. I know they have a lunch buffet during the week, I plan to try that in the future. I was very excited to try a local Indian restaurant that looked very good from various Yelp reviews, but I was underwhelmed by the food and experience overall. I ordered the chicken tikka masala and it did not come with rice or naan bread so I had to order those separately bringing my bill to about $24. I tried their mutter paneer curry here and I thought it was quite good. The consistency and taste were exactly what I was looking for. They give you a good amount for one person as well. I really liked the richness of the curry. I think they used some weird spice though because it didn't smell that nice. It almost smelled like sulfur or rotten eggs perhaps. However, the flavor was very good so I'll let it slide. I wasn't sure what had happened though. The basmati rice that comes with it is okay. It almost tasted like if Uncle Ben made instant basmati rice. It was a little bit dry. If I had rice at my house, I would rather just make it myself. I went back to try more dishes and was quite pleased. I really liked the palak paneer as well as the butter chicken. Both dishes were very rich. The goat curry and chicken curry were decent too. We are vegan and have had no trouble finding good tasting entrees at other Indian restaurants, but here the only dishes that were vegan were just bland and boring. We tried going a handful of times and each time asking if a different dish could be made vegan but were just met with resistance each time. I've been here a couple of times in the past year, and I just feel like they lack consistency both food-wise and service-wise. The lunch buffet is a great deal, if you happen to have a big appetite at lunch. They always have the chicken makhni, which as described on the menu card is something similar to butter chicken, and palak paneer. Naan comes out a little later. But I've had much better tasting butter chicken, chicken tandoori, curries elsewhere in Chicagoland. I know they include crowd-pleasers in the buffet and that these are enticing, but I think it causes guests to overlook the fact that each individual dish isn't that flavorful or wonderful. For me, Indian food is about the flavor and I just don't think Mount Everest cuts it anymore. A final note: do not go for lunch thinking you can order off the a la carte menu. Try doing that, and you're told that technically you can order that but your food may take up to 45 minutes because the chefs are preparing food for the buffet. Ask me how I know. . read more

Was going to go to Kabul House for dinner with 2 friends but at the last minute we were too lazy to trek over to Skokie. Got the "Non Vegetarian Value Meal Dinner for Two" but shared amongest 3 of us. It was a good deal of food and we even had leftovers. The meal was described as "A complete meal with tandoori chicken, boti kabab, chicken tikka, lamb curry, mutter panner, naan, peas pulav, raita and kheer." It was weird as I'm just realizing now that we only got the mutter panner, tandoori chicken, lamb curry, raita and kheer. Don't know what happened to the boti kabab and chicken tikka dishes that were supposed to come with the meal?? We had enough food but it's weird that they didn't bring us dishes that were supposed to be included in our meal and didn't give any explanation. Anyways, didn't like the food. Both the lamb and chicken tandoori were too dry. Flavors were good but the meats were way too dry. The peas pulav were ok. I came here for dinner once around 7 PM and it was fairly packed. While we were seated fairly quickly it took quite a bit for us to get a server to come and take our orders. The delay was somewhat understandable because of the large amount of diners but it would have been nice if they were more prepared for such an occasion, as I'm sure it was not a one time thing. My water also had some suspicious particles in it, which I honestly did not mind too much, but having quality assurance on those kinds of simple things would also have been nice. I am always happy with the curry and chicken selections they have during lunch and naan is included as well, which is served at the table. My favorite part is actually the desserts. This dish is a staple anytime I'm eating Indian food but you've really go to get the spices right and Mt. Everest did just that! It's a great vegetarian dish with mixed veggies, cottage cheese and flavored with wonderful spices. For my meat eaters - There is also a chicken option but really, you won't even know there isn't any meat in this dish. Be a vegetarian for the evening! 2) Chana Masala - Chickpeas cooked in an "exotic" blend of north Indian spices. Do I know the difference between north and south Indian spices you ask? No, absolutely not but I can tell you that the north Indian's got it right on this dish. 3) Aloo Gobi - Cauliflower and potatoes sauteed to "perfection" in mild spices with tomatoes, ginger, garlic and herbs. The Gobi is the stuff!! Get you some. The service was just okay and decor pretty random. The place is large enough restaurant for a group of friends but quiet enough for a little date night action. I hadn't tried them in a long time, but I recall the last time I did, the tandoori chicken was fresh, crisp and well-spiced. Not this time, it was limp and tasteless. The other food wasn't any good either---not actually inedible, but somehow made by people who did not know how to cook these things but were following a set of instructions.
