I went to the lunch buffet with a flat stomach, and I experienced sensory explosions from the goat meat and the fruit custard dessert. The goat meat was extremely satisfying because, while it carries a pleasant texture and taste, the spices were portioned just right: light enough to allow you to fill the dish and strong enough to be interesting. The custard tastes like a simple combination with egg yolk and whip cream but the continuity and sugar density of the paste allows it to vaporize in your mouth and directly enter your nerve system. Mt. Everest is pretty good... I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could though Like other reviewers have said, it's a gentle introduction to Indian cuisine with a pleasant atmosphere. I could eat their naan forever, though I think most people could devour naan forever. I'm also a fan of their tandoori chicken and most of their paneer dishes. They are always solid choices. Mt. Everest is a good place to bring a large group of people, though you will rack up huge fees for naan and/or rice. That being said, service can be slow, particularly at dinner. They also often don't refill your water frequently, which can be a bit problematic considering how spicy some of the dishes are. All in all, Mt. My family bonds over Indian food, and this is one of our favorites spots. The atmosphere is always very inviting, and the food is amazing. I'm not a vegetarian, but there is so much good stuff here I rarely even think about meat (although they do a mean tandoori chicken). We love to start with the vegetable samosas--we've tried other appetizers, but keep coming back to the classic. For entrees, I highly recommend the Aloo Ghobi if you want something flavorful but not super creamy, and the Vegetable Jalfrezie if you're in the mood for a really excellent curry. This is the best Indian food I have ever had! I got it for take out tonight and the service was really prompt...they said over the phone that it would be an hour but it only took 35 minutes. I am not someone who loves things spicy so I went with the Vegetable Briyani, Masala Naan, and Kheer (rice pudding). It was all so amazing...I just finished eating and my mouth is still watering just thinking about it. The Briyani was spicy but not so spicy that I couldn't eat it. It was a huge portion...probably enough for three meals. The Marsala Naan was huge and sooooo full of garlicky goodness! The rice pudding was thinner consistency than I usually like so I was skeptical, but the taste was out of this world. WOW !!! I came to Mt. Everest with my Girlfriend and her Mom for the first time. She told me it was good, but nothing could prepare me for just how good and authentic it truly is! Mmmm...I love their dish, "Curry Up and Leave We Don't Really Need Your Business So We Are Going To Be As Un-accommodating As Possible!" I've never had anything like it in my life. We started off with a dish of, "No, you can't sit here because that means I would have to go get silverware and I really don't want to do that. So, can you just sit here and shut up?" We were thrilled. The tiny table by the door that they shoved us in was perfect and the March breeze from the door as people came and went was spectacular! We were stuffed after this and didn't think it could get any better. It did! We got one order of, "We only have the buffet today BUT, if you tell me what you are thinking about ordering I can go back and ask the chef how long it will take and then you can order it and wait an unspecified amount of time to maybe get that dish. The reason I am going to give you is that the chef is prepping for dinner and we can't make any fresh food right now." Umm...what are the "chefs" cooking for the buffet then? That REALLY makes me want to eat off the buffet when you basically just told me that no more fresh food is going to come out. But the best part? When we politely told the server that we would rather not do the barter and trade version of ordering off the menu, he refused to listen to us/let us leave. We went back and forth about 4 rounds of, "we don't want to order the way you want us to order" vs. "just tell me what you want and I can maybe ask the chef if he feels like making it" And then, as we are leaving I could feel the lasers from the server's eyes boring into my soul. I smiled and said "thank you" and I got the super-laser stare that I think might have actually stolen my soul. This was by far, the most awkward non-edible restaurant experience I have ever had. Came in a few weeks back for the lunch buffet. Not hugely knowledge about Indian cuisine but happy with all the items I tried especially the tandoori chicken, ox tail and palak paneer. O and the NAAN....warm, soft and o so fresh :) They could keep that coming all day (and did!!) For the price of $11.95 and the items included on the buffet, this is a great deal for lunch...not to mention for someone who would be clueless what to order off the menu. The staff was very welcoming, refilled my ice tea several times along with the naan basket. On top of that, didn't even give me the stink eye on my third trip to the buffet. Located right across the street from Evanston Library. Have been there for lunch a few times now -- have ordered both off the menu and had the lunch buffet (a great deal!) I was new to Himalayan/Nepalese food, and found everything delicious and very flavorful! The chicken tikka masala has definitely been my favorite -- chicken is very tender, baked in a tomato based sauce. I often opt to order off the menu (versus the lunch buffet), just so I can take home the leftovers for later. Nice place to take out-of-town visitors for lunch (have not been there for dinner yet.) Service has been very good every time -- customers on a tight lunch schedule can opt for the buffet, and have time to sit and enjoy their meal. I've been there with a small group (6), and have enjoyed a nice meal, followed by a leisure dessert with coffee/tea and conversation (have never felt "rushed" by the staff.) Not only did it take an hour and a half to get delivered, but the restaurant lied to me when I called, I had two different drivers call me accusing me of giving them the wrong city... (I live 1.7 miles away from the restaurant, in EVANSTON) luckily grub hub was able to give 10% of off the $50 dinner for 2 that was supposed to be special for my Mom that was in from out of town, but they only gave us one soggy piece of Naan bread for the entire meal. Went there on a frigid Saturday evening and the place was hotter than Hades. I mean there was a line out the door and the restaurant was packed like a sardine can. We had three different waiters but they each seemed to know what they were doing or what we ordered. We ordered the veggie sampler for two. The food was just ok. The sauces were really heavily fattened up with some fats and had way too much salt. The naan was delicious but also greasy. We were really hurried throughout dinner and the waiters seemed happy to have people to just eat and get out. Disappointing especially when I really wanted to try an after dinner tea...Oh well. Being an India, I wouldn't call it "authentic" indian cuisine, but that's true with most Indian restaurants in US as they dont make any dishes spicy to suit the American palate, so I wouldn't rate them on this. However, food is good even if not spicy, its tasty. However one problem is the buffet menu never changes, at most only one dish is different. And, deserts definitely need improvement, they are not that tasty. But overall lunch buffet, and a la carte dishes are good, so will give then 4 stars. read more

Not good. So Sunday night I drove out to Evanston for dinner with friends and was SO EXCITED when they took me to an Indian! I LOVE Indian food and I never stray from my favorite (vegetable samosoas and malai kofta). I was so disappointed when they dumped water in our sauce tray, said they would bring us new sauces and 10 minutes later the 1/2 of the table who had received our apps sat without sauces. I am not sure why they did not bring out all the apps together either, I guess just poor service. The samosoas were bland and nothing to write home about, but edible. When our meal came we were even further disappointed. The malai kofta sauce was again, edible, but not good. The cheese was really soggy and I could not eat it. Good food and great service the two most important attributes of a good restaurant. The waitstaff is fast and friendly and won't hassle you. The lunch buffet is the real deal and it is fantastic. Every time I go there, I get stuffed more than a Thanksgiving turkey. The prices are a bit high for dinner but you are paying for the service and atmosphere.
