We made a reservation over a week in advance yet when we got to the restaurant we waited most an hour to eat. When we first arrived we were told our table was being cleaned off. The only reason we did not leave was because it was Valentine's Day and I had 4 kids with me, we wouldn't have found another place to eat at such short notice. Every time someone walked in they would lie and say only 5 to 10 min wait. Sadly, we will never visit this place again. The place was extremely cold like they were venting directly from the outside. It was dirty and the interior looked like it needed a good scrubbing. Even the ceiling was filthy. Came back again for my son's bday last night. Not sure if this was an off night but our experience wasn't great. The chefs portions were way off. Twice he had to go back to the kitchen for more food for our party as well as the couple seated at the table next to us. In addition, we had to remind the chef to provide the entire table with the sauces that he had forgotten about. Unfortunately the place seems to be getting dirtier and not as clean. Portions continue to get smaller. Was surprised to see that even for a small party of three they take it upon themselves to include the tip. I Just don't think that's right. Personally, I believe in tipping and I am a good tipper so this isn't a dealbreaker, but I think it might be for some. Also, they don't tell you ahead of time that they're doing this so if you're unaware or someone that doesn't look at the check carefully , you may double tip. I have eaten at Mt. Fuji numerous times in the past few years and I will never ever patronize this restaurant again. I had reservations for a party of four to celebrate an occasion and upon my arrival to the restaurant I noticed there was a limited amount of staff covering the entire restaurant. The lobby was full with patrons waiting to be seated. The hibachi portion of the restaurant was also full which is normal on a weekend night, but I found out that the restaurant only had one chef available to prepare the food and the restaurant employee also told me that they were overbooked. I waited patiently for about 15 minutes past my reservation time and realized that my party would not be seated for quite a while. I left the restaurant and will not be coming back. It's sad to see this once fun to go to restaurant slowly lose its way. read more

The sushi was ok, but order CA rolls and things that most people get otherwise the fish may not be fresh , we got Ikura nigiri and it was not fresh at all , we sent it back untouched, but they still charged us for it. I am actually surprised that I was able to find a good sushi place in a small town like this. Even better that it was such an affordable price. Everything tasted fresh and the sushi roll had a nice ratio between all the ingredients. Moreover, the sushi rolls had a nice bite size. We are in oneonta for the weekend visiting my son at school for his birthday. He loves hibachi so of course this is where we ended up for dinner. We arrived around 7. It's a small restaurant and was a bit crowded. We were a party of 5 and the waitress said us with 2 other groups of people. There was only 1 hibachi chef for the whole restaurant so there was a wait for our food. Food was pretty good. We were all pleased except for my youngest son ( very picky eater. Ended up going to McDonald's for him). The reason for only 3 stars, restaurant was not very clean and having only 1 hibachi chef was not a good idea especially for a busy Saturday night. Now if I was in the other party (4 guests) I probsbly would only five 2 stars. Women on end for very limited food. The chef had to keep requesting to get more because it just wasn't enough. They also ordered salmon ( which I would never do in oneonta) and it looked terrible. read more

Decided to take the family out for hibachi. Food was good. Service was good. Would love for them to expand the drink menu. Mom had salmon and shrimp with fried rice. She enjoyed it. Daughter had salmon and chicken with noodles. However, she got sick after eating the salad. Not sure if it's because of her peanut allergy. Food quality was good, portions were small for cost - we had hibachi with a large party. Hibachi meals were $22-28 each, a bit high for four shrimp and six bites of steak (both of which were good, but would have liked more than a sample). Restaurant wasn't terribly busy, but staff couldn't get us out fast enough - waitress was very pushy about ordering desserts, then was hurrying us out right after they were served. Without a doubt, the best Japanese food in Oneonta. They were attentive to my vegan needs, and offered very friendly service. I haven't gone for Hibachi there, but from what I've seen, the Hibachi does look fun. All the food was delicious. Veggie wraps had fresh, crisp vegetables and creamy avocado. Heard the tempura was cooked properly and NOT saturated with oil, which means the oil was the right temperature. Salmon was cooked perfectly, according to my mother, who is a chef. She did think there was a little too much teriyaki sauce on it, but that was a minor gripe. Squid was tough; wouldn't order that again. Salad was fresh, miso soup was the same as any other Japanese restaurant. The plates of sushi they make are truly beautiful, and I would recommend the sushi to anyone planning on visiting this place. I used to frequent Mt Fuji 15 years ago, so I looked forward to eating there this past weekend. I picked it bc they had HAD Sunday specials (no longer) and I liked the grill, which we weren't seated at. The sushi was good, but when I ordered a second green tea? I was told to reuse my teabag! I have NEVER heard of that, nor not brewing by the pot. But to reuse my tea bag? I almost got up and walked out. The service was pretty prompt, food prepared nicely, but to me? Tea is part of the cost of doing business. There were no other inducements, either. Had to ASK for water. Soup was only HALF a bowl, and salad was tiny, although good. I will NOT go back, there are other options. I paid 75 for 2 people, left hungry, went home and ate. I will not go back, ever. I was extremely disappointed, SO disappointed? had Dinner at Mt. Fuji today. This was a very disappointing experience on several levels. To start they were out of stock for both Kirin and Sapporo beers. So I ordered a large hot saki ($8.95 in menu, but charged $9.95 on bill). The saki was not very good, so I ordered a Stella beer, not a bad beer but wanted a Japanese beer. I ordered a teriyaki beef bento box, but was given a teriyaki beef plate/dinner. I sent it back to get the bento box I ordered, therefore I had my meal after my companion had already finished eating. The worse part is that the waitress neither listened nor did she care about the lack of inventory, wrong order or the misprinted saki which I didn't even drink. Nobody cared that the dining experience was a disaster. No regret was expressed in any manner at all. An expensive dinner which was a totally disappointing experience. My husband and I finally went to Mt. Fuji after weeks of talking about it. I was looking forward to some good sushi, which I have not had in years. John had never had it, but I convinced him to try it as an appetizer. Now he's hooked. For the entree he had teriyaki steak and I had sukiyaki, which to my surprise is served as a soup at Mt. Fuji. But a very delicious one. Getting back to the sushi: I have to say that Mt. Fuji's sushi is the best I've had outside of New York City. I fact, the sushi was so delightful that when we returned to the restaurant a couple of weeks later, we made an entire meal from the sushi bar, with a sushi appetizer and the sushi and sashimi combo entree with California roll. Everything from the sushi bar was fresh and absolutely delicious. For me the California roll was a particularly nice surprise, because up to now it was not one of my favorites since at other places it is mostly rice wrapped in seaweed with a tiny piece of fish in the center. At Mt. Fuji the fish is the dominant flavor in the roll and it is as delightful as everything else on the menu. We haven't tried the hibachi grill yet, but I look forward to it. read more

Has a very yummy sashimi lunch here. We started with some of the best vegetable gyoza we have had. Very tender skin, cooked perfectly and a nice filling. We followed that with the sashimi selection - tuna, yellowtail, striped bass, and white tuna - all well cut and tasting very fresh. Never will I ever come back. This was my second experience at this restaurant and certainly the last. I ordered steak and scallops Hibachi and my girlfriend ordered steak and chicken Hibachi. The food was decent but nothing like Hana in Albany. Upon leaving, I left a tip on the table and payed my bill. The woman scowled at me and said "TIP" with an angry voice. I then said "Your tip is on the table" and stormed out. I wish I went back and took it off the table because they certainly did not deserve one. Restaurant is always cold. Hot tea is warm at best. If you want habachi there is ALWAYS a wait, I think they hope for more people to come. If you sit at the grill, we were told, you have to order hibachi, I wanted something else, oh well. It is pricey, they do listen to your food allergies good, which I appreciate. Wanted Sushi and someone recommended the place so me and my wife went on a weeknight. Walking in the hostess/waitress seemed distant and cold. We ordered. I had sushi and my wife ordered shrimp tempura. Salad only had lettuce, dressing was good. Soup was ok but lukewarm. Sushi came and pieces were small and not cold enough. Rice was chewy, maybe old or not cooked enough. Wife's Tempura was awful, just kind of thrown together. Asked for fried rice which was inedible full of salt. Sent it back Vegetable in big hunks, No flavor extremely greasy. Dipping sauce was gross. Asked for a sweet and sour sauce and all they had was teriyaki which was awful. Later that evening wife became ill. Ordered the Phoenix roll which was very tasty and did not disappoint. The main meal was shrimp teriyaki and the wife had the chicken teriyaki lunch specials. This is the first Japanese restaurant I've been to. It was a nice place! Looks very unassuming from the exterior. I probably would have avoided it actually but a friend of mine wanted to go. Honestly I would really love to give this place a solid 4. The food is actually pretty decent, not the best sushi in the area, but overall usually a good meal. However, the service here has gotten absolutely terrible, the staff is short and abrasive both in the store and on the phone. I don't know what happened over the past couple of years, it used to be such an enjoyable place to eat. On the phone the staff sounds noticeably angry when you call to order food, and when you're in the restaurant sitting down, its just as bad! They truly make you feel like you are annoying them by being there. I don't think I have seen one of the employees there smile in 2 years. read more
