the outside of a japanese restaurant
    Ian W.

Walking around Delhi on a cold snowy day, I was getting hungry and I spotted Tuna III in the center of town. A Japanese & sushi restaurant in Delhi! This place wasn't here when I was going to school and I had to travel as far as Binghamton for good Japanese food. Now there are two Asian restaurants in Delhi, the other place is Ming Moon in the Price Chopper Plaza, which serves up Chinese food. I definitely had to stop in at Tuna III for lunch. Enter the place through some hanging plastic curtains (similar to the ones used for walk-in coolers) and door. The atmosphere inside is casual, cozy, and unique. The finished wood walls, carpeting, and the Japanese decor gives this place a Japanese/country restaurant feel, very fitting for a small town in the mountains. This narrow space has table seating and a sushi bar in the back. The menu offerings include sushi rolls, sashimi, appetizers, soups, salads, udon, yakitori, tempura, seafood, hibachi (cooked in kitchen), teriyaki dishes, and desserts (ice cream, mochis, banana frenzy, chocolate lava cake). Lunch specials (until 4PM) and dinner specials (all day) are offered including bento boxes. Starting at 9:30AM,a breakfast bento box ($5.75) is served with eggs and Vietnamese coffee. The prices here are fair, lunch ($8-$12) and dinner ($11-$18 for most entrees). I could sit anywhere I'd like upon entering. I decided to order the L9: Salmon Teriyaki Lunch Bento Box ($9) which included miso soup. The miso soup served very hot in small cup was good, which had a tofu, seaweed, scallions, & rice noodle in a soothing miso broth. The bento box had grilled salmon teriyaki, salad, egg fried rice, and California roll. The salmon was very firm, only warm temperature-wise. The iceberg lettuce salad with tomato & ginger dressing was crunchy. The California roll was decent which had seastick, avocado, egg, & cucumber, sprinkled with roe on the outside. The light fried rice was difficult to eat with the provided chopsticks (I should have kept the soup spoon). The food overall was just okay to me, but being in Delhi, it was a nice relaxing Japanese lunch for under $10 before tip. The waiter was friendly and gracious and the service was pretty good. On another note, another customer at the next table had a vehicle breakdown across the street. The waiter gladly offered his AAA card to the customer to call for a tow truck. That's thoughtful customer service! FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tuna-III/245677596384

Came over from California for a trip through New York and stopped by this cozy little town on the way up to Niagara. For a sushi shop deep in the countryside, the food was simply amazing and delicious (and the salmon was especially marbled and tasty), especially for someone who's had loads of sushi all over SoCal. The service was super kind and far more sociable than my typical restaurant experiences. I would 110% recommend this place to anyone passing by Delhi!!

Weird lady talks to you. Sushi not up too standard. Did not taste fresh. Would not go again.

What a nice surprise to find a good sushi /Japanese restaurant in a small town in the Catskills. Stopped by after doing some shopping at tractor supply store, and ordered the chicken teriyaki menu. It came with a nice house salad and miso soup. Next time I plan on trying the sushi. This will definitely be my go to Japanese restaurant when I'm in the area. Ps. Decor is non existent, but you don't come here for ambiance.

Really delicious fresh food. We had a time limit to get to the Bushel Center for an event. Totally accommodated us. A real gem.

The broth is excellent in both the Miso and Kuro ramen; the Kuro in particular was a standout, especially paired with the house-made gyoza. The kimchi tasted fresh, and it was great to see real wakame used rather than a shortcut substitute. The wait staff is a bit inexperienced, and the restaurant layout is awkward. Reservations are apparently recommended, and this isn't a place to visit if you're in a rush. Still, those minor drawbacks are easy to overlook given the quality of the food. You'd have to drive into NYC to get better ramen. Highly recommended.

Plus, we were craving a soul-soothing, heart-warming bowl of noodle goodness to warm us up from the inside out. Tanma's front counter space is petite with about 6 stools and giving you an eyeful of ramen magic in the kitchen. The izakaya is fun with Japanese rock music playing- which loosely reminded me of Kill Bill's 5.6.7.8's scene. Tanma's owner was thorough and gave hubs and I a crash course on bowl+spoon placement, aligning the wakame to be at the front, sipping the broth first, pulling noodles high and dipping them in and out the broth. And then just then you move your head closer to the bowl, so that you can take in the delicious ramen combo without spilling any and slurp it up. I've had ramen in Scarsdale with a clear veg broth, topped with crispy tofu, grilled tomato slices, Napa cabbage and other grilled veg. So getting an all-veg broth with a splash of coconut cream to mimic pork broth here wasn't what I expected. Getting an all-clear veg broth here isn't an option either- but what's important is we were assured it's a herbi-broth that's used. The kimchi, bamboo shoots and shredded cabbage toppings were nice- but I opted out of the vegan chashu instantly. Again, I was assured it's vegan- but no thank you. This was an experience for both of us- and we liked it. So whether you're a ramen pro or curious newcomers like my husband and I- and you're ready to dive into the deep end of this noodle soup pool, Tanma is the place.
