I'm a big fan of buying from small business whenever possible. THIS is a small business, and the product is our a high quality. And the owner, Chef Wilson, is honorable. My family is in the region on vacation, and we left Liberty (an hour from Tuna III) fairly hungry. I called to make sure that they were open, and a man answered the phone and simply said, "hello, I will call you back in 15 minutes." I shouted an expletive and my wife yelled at me. She argued that "at least we know that they're open." We decided to give them a try. Upon arrival, the "Closed" sign was at the door, but the door wasn't locked so I went in to inquire. Turns out, Chef Wilson was on his own, cleaning up the place by himself after a hectic evening. I explained that I called earlier but no one called me back. He felt badly, and while the place was closed, he took us in. We had the place all to ourselves, and aside from our hunger, we were in no rush. The miso soup was small (but inexpensive, and really good). It had a very strong flavor and included some nice ingredients like enoki mushroom. The house salad had a very nice carrot ginger dressing. I felt like my salmon avocado roll had a but too much rice on it, but the fish was fresh and I enjoyed it. I also realized that Wilson was on somewhat of a hurry to serve us, and being alone, I can't really know exactly what the good would have been like if he had his whole crew there. I enjoyed the sukiyaki... I've had better... it seemed like there was a strong taste of something like vinegar. Still, it was authentic, and I liked it. The only thing that was strange was this spoon shaped like a small ladle. It was hard to get the pieces of cabbage from within there, and I had to slurp, which really pisses off my daughter! My wife and kid both got the Sea Dragon Roll. My wife said she had found her NEW FAVORITE ROLL of all time. They loved it. Great presentation and excellent sauce combo... too bad we can't come back for it regularly. Wilson is a very genuine guy. I really appreciated his taking us in for to the circumstances. This place is a hidden gem. Doesn't look like much from the outside, or inside to be honest. I was ready to walk out. Then Chef Wilson came out and spoke to us about what we wanted to eat. Chef Wilson is extremely knowledgeable and his soft confidence won us over to the point where we just told him a few items we wanted and he created a delicious menu. The ribs were off the bone and spiced to perfection. The stir fry beef dish was melt-in-your mouth yummy. They just know what they are doing. He explained the pandemic almost took them down, but they kept going. The sushi chef, who's been working for him for years, was amazing. Wilson, the owner took great care of us. We just told him what we liked and he made suggestions that were the perfect taste and portion size for our group. The sushi was fresh and tasty, the beef in our cooked dish was the most tender beef I've had in a Chinese or Japanese restaurant, the salmon nabe was a hearty and light accompaniment to the other dishes. My friends loved the fall off the bone sparerib appetizer that was big enough to fit as a main (I don't eat pork). The sushi chef was very kind and clearly took great care and pride in her skills (all the thumbs up for a female sushi chef!). Please don't let the decor or ambiance get in the way of your tastebuds (and then go across the street for some great soft serve for dessert)! read more

Walking around Delhi on a cold snowy day, I was getting hungry and I spotted Tuna III in the center of town. A Japanese & sushi restaurant in Delhi! This place wasn't here when I was going to school and I had to travel as far as Binghamton for good Japanese food. Now there are two Asian restaurants in Delhi, the other place is Ming Moon in the Price Chopper Plaza, which serves up Chinese food. I definitely had to stop in at Tuna III for lunch. Enter the place through some hanging plastic curtains (similar to the ones used for walk-in coolers) and door. The atmosphere inside is casual, cozy, and unique. The finished wood walls, carpeting, and the Japanese decor gives this place a Japanese/country restaurant feel, very fitting for a small town in the mountains. This narrow space has table seating and a sushi bar in the back. The menu offerings include sushi rolls, sashimi, appetizers, soups, salads,udon, yakitori, tempura, seafood, hibachi (cooked in kitchen), teriyaki dishes, and desserts (ice cream, mochis, banana frenzy, chocolate lava cake). Lunch specials (until 4PM) and dinner specials (all day) are offered including bento boxes. Starting at 9:30AM,a breakfast bento box ($5.75) is served with eggs and Vietnamese coffee. The prices here are fair, lunch ($8-$12) and dinner ($11-$18 for most entrees). I could sit anywhere I'd like upon entering. I decided to order the L9: Salmon Teriyaki Lunch Bento Box ($9) which included miso soup. The miso soup served very hot in small cup was good, which had a tofu, seaweed, scallions, & rice noodle in a soothing miso broth. The bento box had grilled salmon teriyaki, salad, egg fried rice, and California roll. The salmon was very firm, only warm temperature-wise. The iceberg lettuce salad with tomato & ginger dressing was crunchy. The California roll was decent which had seastick, avocado, egg, & cucumber, sprinkled with roe on the outside. The light fried rice was difficult to eat with the provided chopsticks (I should have kept the soup spoon). The food overall was just okay to me, but being in Delhi, it was a nice relaxing Japanese lunch for under $10 before tip. The waiter was friendly and gracious and the service was pretty good. On another note, another customer at the next table had a vehicle breakdown across the street. The waiter gladly offered his AAA card to the customer to call for a tow truck. Came over from California for a trip through New York and stopped by this cozy little town on the way up to Niagara. For a sushi shop deep in the countryside, the food was simply amazing and delicious (and the salmon was especially marbled and tasty), especially for someone who's had loads of sushi all over SoCal. The service was super kind and far more sociable than my typical restaurant experiences. I would 110% recommend this place to anyone passing by Delhi!! read more

What a nice surprise to find a good sushi /Japanese restaurant in a small town in the Catskills. Stopped by after doing some shopping at tractor supply store, and ordered the chicken teriyaki menu. It came with a nice house salad and miso soup. Next time I plan on trying the sushi. This will definitely be my go to Japanese restaurant when I'm in the area. Ps. Food is always delicious and the epitome of any day. The staff is always friendly and polite. I have never had a bad meal their once. This is one of those places with the kind of service that you say, " huh, 20% seems a bit low for a tip after the meal I just experienced." Truly the definition of a Small Town Delight. To college students remember that this is a restaurant, and therefore will have restaurant prices. The prices are fair, and more than reasonable. I guess all things are relative which makes the 4 and 5 star reviews for this place understandable. It's the only "sushi" game in town or for many miles and you can't really compare it to the coffee shops, Pizzahut, Chinese food or Micky D's in Delhi. I wouldn't say that the quality was great nor the service. Though, it is interesting/entertaining (if not painful) to see the owner micro-manage the waitstaff. If you're addicted to "Japanese" food and stranded in Delhi, this is your saving grace. I went here once when I first moved to the area, and once was enough. And by all means...DO NOT...ask what happened to "Tuna II" or "Tuna I". I heard that they were buried out back. (Yes, that was my attempt at tuna humor). read more

I have been to Tuna 3 on countless occasions since they first opened in Delhi. Each time I thoroughly enjoy myself. The atmosphere is lovely, and the food is divine. I order the seaweed salad instead of the house salad every time I'm there - it's delicious. The miso soup is also perfectly flavored, not watered down like I have had at other sushi places. Tuna 3 definitely adds a nice variety to Delhi, where there isn't much to eat except for pizza or fast food. A few of the waitresses that have worked here in the past have been a little rude and short with me, but the owner is such a sweetheart. A very nice, kind, caring man who is such a pleasure to speak with. He will go to any lengths to make sure you are happy and satisfied with your dining experience. Tuna 3 has been a strong presence in Delhi since it opened, and I look forward to eating there many more times in the future. read more

The worst Japanese takeout I've ever had. Everything was poorly cooked, the tempura was soggy and greasy, paper was sticking to a lot of the cooked food, they included one thin envelope of soy sauce for 3 orders of sushi. An absolute ripoff. read more

This gets 5 stars from me, not because it serves AMAZING food, but because it serves good japanese food for a small upstate town in the country with 2 stop lights. It's not Nobu or Blue Ribbon, but if you want that you need to travel 3 hours south to NYC. I LOVE their tuna tataki. It is perfectly seared and served perfectly in a really tasty light sauce. The owner (and chef) is a character, polite, and hard working. He recommended a nice cold sake to go with our meal. read more

The tuna was fine. What was not fine was the incompetent wait staff. When asked what kind of tuna they had she has no clue. She had to ask. Figured she was new (she acted new) she returned and told us they had red and white tuna...wow! We ordered 3 rolls and received 2 of them. When she brought them my husband asked for another soda. We were one of 2 tables occupied. 20 minutes later, the 2 rolls were eaten, we were chatting waiting for the waitress to return with our other roll. 10 minutes longer and I was able to call her over and asked for the check. This is when she informed us that we have another roll coming - well, we knew that but a 30 minute wait and we had lost interest. We got our bill and she proceeded to charge us for the 3rd roll and my husbands 2nd soda that he never received. She was indignant and surprised when when I refused to pay for the roll we still had not received or the soda. She was a nitwit! She offered to bring the roll and the soda - nope! We had a great experience here! My friends and I were staying in Delhi for a wedding and stopped here for dinner. We got there at 8:45 and even though they were scheduled to close at 9pm, they stayed open for us and didn't make us rush or anything. I'm vegan and he took special care to ensure that I was taken care of. We split a bunch of appetizers (fried tofu, spring rolls, dumplings) and for my entree I got the avocado peanut roll. Otherwise, I will discuss your order with our chefs to see if there is anything wrong with the dishes that you ordered. In terms of micro-managing the staff - well, the staff is new, very new - so new that she wasn't fully trained to work alone yet. But unfortunately due to some other staff problem, I have no choice but to put her to work despite the fact that she is not ready. She, at that time, still had a full menu to digest, the service flow to understand, and task priorities to learn. so it's really not what you perceived. Rather than having to deal with wrong orders, missing items and etc., so yes, I had no choice but to do what you called "micro-manage" for the time being until the server is ready. My father is part of a local fishing club in Delhi and as such he discovered Tuna III a few years ago. We hail from the Boston area where there are many sushi restaurants serving all types of sushi from Nigiri to Rolls. Many of these restaurants get great reviews and have a loyal following from the "foodie" culture that is prevalent in and around Boston. And I have always thought we ate and have enjoyed high quality sushi. (Note I have not eaten at O Ya). HOWEVER - not one of these highly touted sushi restaurants even comes close to competing with the freshness, uniqueness, and quality that TUNA III exemplifies each and every time we have been fortunate enough to eat here. The sushi is simply world class. I have no idea how they pull it off but they do and it is a true treasure. In fact, when we come to Delhi there is no other option in our minds. This does not even begin to speak of the hospitality the customers receive when being a guest at the restaurant. I can't recommend Tuna III enough. If you are remotely close to the Catskills for a weekend getaway, passing through the region, or just looking to find an incredible eating experience make the trip and enjoy. You will not regret it. This is a surprising place. The owner greeted me and my date and was very engaging. We told him it was our first time at his place and he put together a 4 course menu for us that was very delicious. We had miso soup (fresh and NOT SALTY) A SPECIALTY Sushi Roll called Double Salmon. This roll almost put me over the edge it was so filling. We had a spinach, avocado, salad that had a special house dressing that was out of this world. It was so good we asked the owner to sell us some of the dressing on the way out. For entres my date had a tempura seafood dish that was so crispy and not greasy it was so perfectly cooked. I had a steak and shrimp dish that came sizzling to the table. The steak was cooked rare and it was very tender, I think it was ribeye. We finished the dinner with Ginger, and Red Bean ice cream. Soo, friggin good !! I drove from Oneonta to this place for a need of variety from the humdrum sushi at home and had a great surprise. What the place lacks in ambiance does not compare to the quality of the food and service. A hidden gem of a place. read more
