Sampler Cookie
Jenna F.

For anyone who's lived in Tucson, The Mt Lemmon Cookie Cabin is a tradition. Every time I'm up there, I have to stop and always order the Sampler Cookie. It's massive and meant to be shared with several people and is exactly what it sounds like- a way to sample multiple different cookie offerings at once. The prices are definitely a bit higher because of being on Mt Lemmon and while the cookies are good, they aren't something I would take a trip up the mountain to experience. I also tried the hot chocolate, which was very standard, though they did seem to have expanded their drink menu. It's a quaint place as long as you aren't visiting during busy season (weekends when everyone's trying to escape the heat) and can be a nice little reward after a hike.

This place definitely remains a popular stop when atop Mt. Lemmon. The long, slow moving line shows that for sure. I was pretty disappointed though. Waited 30 minutes in line and got a chocolate chip cookie. It was big for sure and that's great. Just uncooked in the middle. Not soft like you hope for, but just kinda uncooked. They're definitely a staple of the community there and that's great. I just don't see myself waiting in line like that for a disappointment again.

Very nice staff and spot to grab a bite to eat with my kiddo! Cookies as big as your face!

Love going to Mt Lemmon Cookie Cabin. The service is always great and very staff is always friendly, and it's so darn cute. We tried the chili this time and had the cookie sampler so good.

After a long, hot and then cold pedal up Mt. Lemmon, I needed some calories! Thankfully the Cookie Cabin was open and warm so I popped in. I had a slice of pepperoni pizza which was ok, bit of soggy crust but the taste wasn't bad. Of course I had to try the cookies, so I got oatmeal raisin. It was not a traditional oatmeal raisin cookie, with a smoother, crispier texture but the flavor was spot on. Coulda used more raisins, but it sure hit the spot after a 3 hour climb. The staff were SUPER friendly and willing to chat, and I'd definitely go back if I'm ever on Mt. lemmon again.

Fun tourist place for pizza and cookies. We got there around 3 and they were out of the sampler cookie which I was really bummed about. Got a few slices of pizza, the Reese's and the Rachel. Rachel was the best. Crunchy cookie and huge. The pizza was ok but nothing to rave about. Definitely a touristy place. Service was quick but waited in line for about it 20 minutes. They take card or cash only. There is very limited seating outside and only a few tables inside. It was nice to be able to have our dog outside with us after our 3 mile walk.

Unfortunately, I set my expectations a little too high for this place. Everything about it was ok. We drove an hour to get here after a long hike in Saguaro National Park, and we were starving. The parking lot is super duper tiny, so we had to park down a ways on the side of the road. The inside of the cabin is cute, but small with a little fire place in the middle and maybe 4 or 5 tables with 2 chairs at each. There was one bathroom too. Luckily the line to order wasn't as long as it looked like it could have been, but we still waited 5-10min. to place our order. Then it took another 15-20 for our pizza to come out. We also ordered the cookie sampler which had to be made fresh and took 30min. (Which they did tell us about and we decided to wait). The pizza was ok. The twisted crust was fun, but it definitely looked better than it tasted. The cookie was also just ok. Everyone working was extremely nice though! I wouldn't drive here again just to eat the food, but I suppose if I was up there for some of reason and other people wanted to eat there, I would probably go.

Love the idea of the cookie cabin. They serve giant cookies that can be easily shared with 3-4 people or maybe more depending on your hunger and sugar craving levels. The have bunch of different flavors and even serve one as a sampler with something like six flavors grouped together and baked as one cookie. The menu also has pizza by the slice and whole pizzas. The cabin operates like a fast food joint. Order at the counter, cookies are basically ready to go, so already baked and maybe reheated? We ordered a chocolate chip cookie and also ordered a 16inch pizza instead of slices because that's really the best way to get a "fresh" pizza. $35.00 for a whole pizza is steep in my opinion. There's no specialty ingredients, just your average cheese and pepperoni. The cookie wasn't overly sweet, which I appreciated! I'm not a fan of their ordering system, I asked if I could pay ahead for my cookie with ice cream and then order it after we finished our pizza and they said no. So basically, our cookie got cold and our ice cream melted while we ate our pizza. Seems unreasonable to me, but they do have a lot of people come through so maybe they just want to keep things moving along. Since it's order at the counter and patrons buss their own tables, I noticed tables were very dirty. The least they can do is either have staff wiping tables down regularly or leave a spray bottle and towels on the counter for patrons to wipe their tables. I had to ask a staff member and even offered to wipe it myself. Their wipe down was not very thorough.

I got the cookie sampler here. The cookie was as big as a plate. My favorite cookie on the sampler was the Rachel. I got it to-go so it was on a paper plate then put into a plastic ziplock freezer size bag. My coworker got a cookie and a slice of pizza. The service was fast. There are a few tables inside and more tables outside to sit.

I'll give four stars for the experience and the cookie alone. Pricing was a little steep for a cookie, sweater and a large pizza. But i suppose they have to make their money somehow! 84 dollars for pizza+sweater. We ordered a large pepperoni olive pizza and the peppermint bark cookie with ice cream and both were great. Esp since we have a sweater to remember our trip! The lines were pretty long but i suppose when this was your whole plan for a trip it's worth it.

Every time we visit my in-laws in Tucson, we take a drive up Mt Lemmon and grab us a cookie or two! Friendly service, delicious cookies and the cutest log cabin aesthetic. Love this place! Only complaint is it's a little pricey at $9 per cookie, but the novelty of it is worth it.

I didn't try any entrees - they have pizza and chili, but I did try their chocolate chip cookie and it was pretty perfectly cooked! Crunchy edges and gooey inside, they had chocolate chip, Reese's PB cup, brownie/chocolate, white chocolate macadamia nut, and a "Rachel" butterscotch, oats - flavors??! The service was friendly but the line was long - I probably waited ~15/20 minutes at 1:00 pm on a Saturday. There were only a couple tables inside but lots of patio and outdoor seating. Worth the wait and one cookie is large enough to share with 3-4 people!

I had a nice experience up here recently. I hadn't been in a long time but it does hold up over time! Such a cute place with cookies as big as your face! I got the double slice of pepperoni, delish! Fast friendly service especially since there was a line to the door while I was there. The interior is small but there's tons of outdoor seating , which is where I sat to enjoy the pines and beautiful scenery of mt. Lemmon. Definitely stop here if you make it up the mountain, something for everyone to enjoy!

Anyone know if the chili is gluten free?

Hi Ashley! Yes, our chili is gluten free. However, we are not a celiac friendly kitchen since we use the same ovens and equipment.

I ordered the classic burger, the grilled cheese on barrio bread for my daughter, and my husband ordered the braised beef with polenta from the chef's special menu. The food was all a-ok, my only suggestion would be to change the fries. They serve the battered type of french fry that I'm just not a huge fan of. If you haven't been before, do note that it is order at the counter. Grab napkins, disposable forks/knives, condiments etc. If you happen to order from the chefs menu special, you get a linen napkin and real silverware. We found that was funny but I guess they are trying to create a more elevated experience with their chef specials.

Small diner menu with some German offerings that lend that Alpine aire to compliment the treed mountain views from the back side of the restaurant. The Mountain Soul $18.10 that all us Fraus in the club seemed to embrace featured 2 tasty snappy brats, tart vinegar forward German tater salad, stewed red cabbage (oddly no sauerkraut), and a hunk of sweet corn kerneled cornbread, complete with the diner staple dispensers with the slider top honey globes on each table if more sweetness were needed. Hearty grub that, thus half+ came home making for a very tasty Round 2, that I popped into a Pretzel Dawg Bun, yum! Herr hubby as did most of the guys opted for a bowl of chili $17.07 with both chunks of beef and beans and was pretty tasty with medium heat and thickness. Sodas $4.65 are the most we've paid of late but feeding up a picturesque mountain comes at a cost haha. Our waitress was efficient during ordering and the food came out quickly for our large group of 25. However, our tab got messed up not really surprising given our size, but glad we caught it nonetheless. She was very apologetic and then packed us one of their beautiful specialty small pies to go, with our amended bill. Strawberry rhubarb, plenty for 2, flaky crust, very sweet though, so for those on sugar watch, this pie is not for you haha but sure to satisfy the pie lovers, and apple struedel is here of course too! Happy to support Mt Lemmon businesses and the Iron Door's charm is a worthwhile escape with a huge parking lot across the street. We were seated right away since it wasn't busy, and things started off simple enough with bread and oil. We asked for parmesan to go with it, and our server seemed unsure how to respond, eventually bringing out packet parm even though fresh was clearly available. Not a huge deal, but we found it odd. A little later, we asked for more bread. The server told us they were out but, "that they could probably make more". . He relayed it to the woman handling bread, who then made more for another table and skipped us entirely. He mentioned it again to her when he saw us looking in their direction. she looked over, and still nothing. It was awkward, since the restaurant is the size of a closet. Once the pizza came, we got up ourselves to ask for more oil and parmesan, since our waiter hadn't come to check back. We got the oil instantly since we brought us the bowl, but no parmesan. At one point my son asked for bread, again, finally it came and the server literally tossed it on the table without a word. We said thank you and he completely ignored all of us. It didn't get any better from there. The bill was dropped on the table without a word either. My husband and I kept looking at each other with confused looks. We turned the bill in with our CC, and once the server returned it, same thing, not a single interaction. We also watched the same server make another table feel like an inconvenience over something as simple as asking for a bottle of Coke instead of a can. The customer ended up backing down just to avoid the hassle. The server then told the guest, "it's fine, I can get it for you!" On top of that, staff were wearing gloves while handling food, but also touching chairs, phones, and other surfaces; kind of defeats the purpose I think? My boys also had a weird interaction with a staff near the bathrooms who was very rude to them and accused them of cutting the line, despite no one waiting. It was very strange. Bottom line: the food is incredible, no question. But the service was so bad it's hard to ignore. Best advice, get it to go and skip the experience inside.

More basil would have helped the balance but all in all still good - Diavola + Arugula + Calabrian chili: the added greens and chili made each bite just a little fresher. - Carne: as expected, there was a good amount of meat. Unfortunately, the amount of grease left the pie very soggy. Still good flavor. - Carbonara: Egg was a good add to flavor but the texture was very rubbery. Decent white pie but also sits very heavy compared to the others - Piccante: nice and spicy All in all, a good experience for pies in the Tucson area. Fast forward to post-COVID, and it's been transformed into something completely different: Fancy Pizzeria, run by a family with a clear passion for what they do, complete with an oven imported from Italy. Anytime someone says Safford needs a Chili's, I cringe... not because I don't like Chili's, but because good help is hard to find in a small town. The owners here seem to understand that, keeping things lean and hands-on with very little hired help. As a result, the service from the husband-and-wife team is genuinely great... though when it gets busy, things can slow down. I've experienced that firsthand, and walked out once a couple years ago after a long wait...but I came back, and I'm glad I did. The food is, simply put, amazing. The pizza has that perfect charred crust you usually only find in bigger cities or on the East Coast. The Italian sodas are excellent. I've yet to try anything, from appetizers to pasta dishes, that didn't hit the mark. Prices are a bit higher than most spots in town, but the quality absolutely justifies it when it's in the budget. I've heard the name "Fancy Pizzeria" was intentional: they wanted to set the expectation that this isn't your typical greasy pizza joint... and they deliver on that, consistently. The dining area has expanded quite a bit recently, and the decor is creative and unique, with many of the dishes and utensils sourced from local thrift shops. All in all, this place stands out in Safford in the best way. I genuinely love everything about it and hope they can continue to operate in the years to come!
