It is a four day event showcasing National and local musicians. You can purchase a camping package or stay in local hotels or Air B&B's. Thursday there are parties and music at different local venues in the Village of Kernville. Friday and Saturday the festivities are held at the Frandy Campgrounds. They have a main stage and an acoustic stage and vendors providing food and shopping. Sunday there is a band and vendors in the Kernville Square. It is family friendly and you can easily go up for just a day if you live in Bakersfield. You can follow the event of Facebook. I highly recommend this fun local music festival.

Then my group had Brogan as a guide when we went on the raft. He was very good. He told us nice stories and Michelle and another guide, Parker, went along in front of us with supplies. Brogan was very nice and pulled out a larger raft to accommodate our larger party. We all had a lot of fun learning the rowing techniques and understanding the commands. During our rafting trip, we heard lots of great stories from Brogan, and he helped us by giving great recommendations on things to do and places to eat during our stay here in Kernville. He gave us everything we needed, and I'm excited to go rafting again thanks to our great guide, Brogan!

From the second we arrived, the crew made the whole experience feel safe, organized, and FUN. Our guide was fantastic--knowledgeable, encouraging, funny, and somehow managed to make me feel completely comfortable while I was voluntarily launching myself down a river. The scenery was beautiful, the rapids were such a rush, and this ended up being one of those experiences where you finish and immediately think, "I can't believe I actually did that!" If you're nervous or trying white water rafting for the first time, DO IT. Such a great experience and such a fun crew. I would absolutely recommend them--and apparently I'm a river person now. 10/10 adventure. Would panic and paddle again.

When we go river rafting, we mainly stay @ Headquarters or Sandy Flat Campground. This past weekend, we stayed at Sandy Flat. It was amazing. It is right off the river. The river was full and had power. I will add official stats by this weekend. My favorite group of runs is called The Jungle. (I will fact check this). I think that a great run was called Dilly. It is a class 4!! OMGoodness, it was wild & fun. Once more rafters arrived we went on another run. I will get the official names. One is named ... something Deli. Anyways, EPIC FUN. I forgot my wetsuit. I just went on June 3rd. The water was C O L D. Our guide, Doug, told us NOT to bring our phones. I wish I would have remembered my Go - Pro. We were lucky that the 178 reopened for the drive home. It was 93 degrees. I was mesmerized by the river. I couldn't stop watching it on the drive home.

Coming up here from San Diego we didn't really know what to expect other than we might have an opportunity to tube down the river. So everyone in our group brought river tubes. That was our first miscalculation. Aperently tubing depends on the season, recent weather conditions, and various natural events that really narrow the scope of when you can tube safety. Also consider how you plan to get back up to your campsite after you tube down the river a few miles.. Ideally you rent tubes from a company that also shuttles you back up the river. If you don't want to rent tubs someone in your group has to pick you up and drive you back, which is a pain. There is no cell service and no uber... The Kern River is best suited for kayaking and rafting. There are many companies in kernville that offer those services. Camping. If you're looking to camp along the river during the summer you need to think about booking in January. During our stay mid-June, the entire river was booked solid.. We stayed at Sandy Flats campgroup which had a small beach area by the river. Litter bugs. One of the most discouraging things to see along the river was the amount of trash that people leave behind. The number one item? Used diapers.. If you can manage to visit midweek, and be prepared to use a kayak/rafting company you will have an epic time. Note - Sequoia National Park is about an hours drive away. Makes for a great day trip.

Battery on the boat died and would not start with 3 hours remaining for both rentals. No apology for the inconvenience. No let's work out something for the 3 hours lost. Phil was having a bad day also was rude and had a bad attitude. He doesn't know how to handle business when all your machines are breaking down. As a business owner you don't treat return customers this way. Blamed us for a battery and charged me $1,500 on top of the rental for damage fees. Stay away from this place this guy is a liar and thief. No communication just doe's whatever he wants and don't talk about anything.

The next day we found it was down Lake .This Woman in Charge was there running the place with her grown children. She KNEW we did not know about the Cyanobacteria Green Algae Danger. She attempted to steer us away from areas with signs when we asked!? This behavior is PURE EVIL. She is a Mother that let me and my family , my Child, get in this water! French Gulch Marina tested tier 1 for this Cyanobacteria. She has ZERO signs up. Colin KNEW TOO! This is EVIL. One of the symptoms of this algae is PARALYSIS, can have mild to life threatening effects . Look it up. BEWARE... Be wary when Algae gone too! Price different than the sign. Something off when we walked in, we should've heeded our guts. Rented 4 Jet skis. Long lecture about not getting sand in motor /prop so we stayed at least 100 feet away from any shore, so we were careful to avoid debris. We got a text a couple hours after renting saying they were charging our card $1250 until 1 of the skis checked further. Said one of the"wear rings" was a problem. They are $22 rings to protect the prop and for normal wear? We called Colin admitted the skis were not checked between customers. We told him we never got near the shore so that was impossible. He said "maybe fishing line got in there". We told him none of the skis ever sputtered. Also Colin had told us pre-ride safety that they had locators on them. I said check the locators, they will show we were not near the shore. We asked for the owner (he said it was Phil) to call us. Next day , he still has not called. This feels like a big scam. My husband and I 62 and 64 were around boats our whole life. This did not happen the way they said. My son in law has worked as a form of mechanic. He looked up the wear ring part and says this is a scam. I WOULD ADVISE NOT TO RUIN YOUR VACATION or Your HEALTH WITH THEM. evil
