We had reserved a table, and when we arrived and said we were four people, the owner and staff looked at each other for some reason before finally seating us. The table we were given was in an uncomfortable spot near the passageway to the back. We asked if there was another table available on the other side, but the owner said no because all tables were reserved. However, when we were leaving, several tables were still available, which made the situation feel unfair. Good luck on getting the name right but the food will soon make you forget the language barrier. We came on a Saturday night to celebrate our family being all together which almost never happens. The decor takes you away from Brooklyn straight to Georgia. Authentic decor from the old world and service to match. If you bring your own Licqour, they will charge you a bottle service fee, so feel free to drink theirs and take yours home. Service was great at first, but as the restaurant filled with more parties, we felt neglected. Not being offered dessert or coffee--/ we felt obliged to ask for our check. I am new to Georgian food in the USA in a sit down restaurant so this was my first time and it has a Michelin mention so I thought it was a good time to try it. I had no instructions. Menu was difficult to understand. I felt bad asking about every item but I asked about most. I like to know what I'm eating. Must try khinkali but it has a set of rules which I learned on my own by watching locals after my mess. You should take them from a plate with your hands, grab the dumpling by the top (called kudi), turn it around and sprinkle it with pepper. Then you carefully take a tiny bite into it, create a hole and suck the juice and only then start eating. The upper part is not for eating - they are discarded to the edge of the plate. I grabbed mine cut it in half got the juice all over and messed it up. No one told me it was a soup dumpling! Nothing like the Asian ones. This one is much larger and has a very delicious broth inside along with a meatball of two meats blended and green pepper. The Hot borscht was chunky, and was delicious once I added the sour cream. Without the sour cream it is a vegan soup. My last favorite was the eggplant rolls. They are served cold and are also vegan. They are filled with a walnut spread and topped with a few pomegranate seeds. Served with bread. I do not recommend the kebab. Too overcooked for me and they do not serve them medium. A few other things. They add a 10 percent service fee and a 3 percent credit card fee. The loss of a star was not due to the food but due to someone smoking in the kitchen and we were seated right near the kitchen and I enjoy my eating experience by smelling my food. I do not want to smell whatever you're smoking. It made me feel sick. read more

This place was the first time I got to try Georgian cuisine and I think I had a very great introductory experience. This little Brooklyn gem's interior is homely and cozy and so was the meal, a perfect way to describe Georgian cuisine. Hearty, warm, pleasant dishes that make you feel like you're eating a family dinner made by your Eastern European grandma in a cottage. We got the cheese bread, nothing crazy, basically another rendition of pizza, and the lamb soup to start, which I enjoyed quite well as it is a light broth base with warm spices and very nostalgic of Vietnamese chicken broth, only they used lamb to have a slightly gamier taste. For our mains, we opted for the waiter's recommendations for introductory Georgian dishes - homemade pork sausages, pan fried chicken with garlic butter sauce, and beef and pork soup dumplings. All the meat dishes were very comforting, filling, and not too heavy, but I personally liked the sausages the most, the soup dumplings next, and found the chicken a little too salty (but definitely juicy). These dishes didn't blow my mind but really do remind me of homely cooking - the preparation of these meats doesn't use excess ingredients to make you feel terrible. You feel good and fulfilled afterwards in a non bloated way. Finally, kudos to this place because I will be giving this a 5* on Yelp due to great hospitality, service, and $20 wine bottles. My group and I came here for dinner after deciding, new year, new cuisine. We came on a Friday night and it was pretty busy, as there was a party of 10 in one corner. The restaurant is quite warm and cozy, good for a small party. There's only 1 restroom but that wasn't an issue. Anyway, food! We really wanted to order Khachapuri with the poached egg, however, they do not have it here, rather they have a flat soft bread with cheese in the middle...which we did order. It was enough to not feel too heavy, but if you wanted more cheese, they do have one with double the cheese. We also ordered the khinkali, or the dumplings. They were more the size of a bun than a dumpling. The top of the dumpling was quite thick, so it was a bit hard to eat, otherwise, the filling was pretty good. We also had an eggplant appetizer with walnut pate. It wasn't for me, as there was a heavy oil aftertaste. Next we ordered the pork sausage. My friends said it was their favorite. I have a neutral opinion on it, but it wasn't bad. It was perhaps slightly too smokey for me. We also ordered their mushroom appetizer, which reminded me of escargot, heavy garlicky butter smell and taste. Lastly, we ordered the chicken in garlic sauce. The garlic sauce was a bit runny, I kinda wished it was thicker or if there was slightly less sauce. However, the sauce was good with the bread they provided, as it tasted just like toasted garlic bread. I have to say, this cuisine isn't fit for everyone's taste, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to give it a try. They do have a 10% service charge already added to the bill, plus a 3.5% charge for paying with credit card and still need to pay tip on top. Just something to look out for. read more

The place is cozy enough and the service is okay. The cheese dish was not as good as the other Georgian place in Brooklyn that I had attended, which I think had at least one Michelin star. I doubt this one has one. I mistakingly had put their review with five stars under the name Mtskheta Cafe. The beef soup was not as good as well, and it tasted soapy. There were only two cubes of beef for the small one, much fewer than in the other Georgian restaurant. I was told that there would be four cubes in the big one. Ridiculous! The fireplace was a nice touch, but not real. The bathroom was plain but clean enough. read more

Not sure what the deal with this restaurant is. One day I came at 5PM and they said I couldn't eat as they were fully booked (all tables were empty). Next time I called upfront and asked if I could make a reservation for 3PM and they responded that the reservations were accepted only from 4PM, I asked if I could eat at 3PM (they are open from 12PM) as a walk-in then and they said yes. When I walked in at 3PM, one couple was dining all other tables were empty, but they said that I could only eat at 4PM. I spent 8 hours so far trying to eat at this restaurant and never took a bite. This is a hole in the wall kind of place. Didn't look much from the outside since the restaurant is small. When you see the word cafe in the name of the restaurant, makes you think that there is only coffee and some pastries. I was greeted by a friendly waiter and he quickly brought me to the table. I really liked the decor, there was a giant spoon on the wall!!! I love random restaurant wall decor. Makes it more interesting to look at. I asked the waiter for recommendations and he recommended few items like Khinkali, which looks like an oversized chinese soup bun with meat filling. There was 6 of them. Once you take a bite, the juice comes out. It was amazing!!! My toddler was too busy admiring the muscular waiter. She is usually shy with strangers but not with this one. My jam here is get a kabob and salad as well for a balanced meal. I highly recommend the eggplant. I've ended the meal with Turkish coffee and a slice of Napoleon. I have eaten in many Georgian restaurants in Brooklyn, but this one is by far the best in town and my new favorite! Mtskheta, and its improbable row of uninterrupted consonants, takes its name from one of the Republic of Georgia's oldest cities, most famous for some ancient monuments that are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While this modest restaurant on a busy intersection crawling with construction vehicles will not be making any heritage lists, the food here is very worthy of noting. A very important bit of information for this place is that they do not have an English menu, and this could pose certain difficulties for non-Russian speaking groups unfamiliar with what dishes to order. The server seemed happy to make some recommendations, but I have a feeling the best options might stay hidden with this method. Come prepared with some choices and verse yourself in the cuisine of Georgia before arriving, as it will help. A couple up-sells that are worth having (although possibly too much for just two people) are the Georgian salad ($7.50) and lavash ($2.50), which is a basket of very delicious bread. A large table could handle this basket, but it has a lot of density. For our first visit here, Noah and I went with a couple tried and true favorites and another dish that was new to us. Both of us are slaves to khachapuri ($8) and quickly ordered it up. The typically Georgian cheese bread here is more cheese than bread and comes sliced into four wedges. It was certainly no best khachapuri, but we did not have a problem finishing it. New to us was the kupati ($13.95), a plate of sizzling beef and pork sausages that comes out crackling like a plate of Tex-Mex fajitas. They are served with a side of rather useless and bland tomato sauce, but are bursting with flavor themselves and do not need it. When I traveled to Georgia, a favorite pastime of the locals, and then eventually myself, was scarfing down a plate of khinkali with beer. The neighborhood delis on this corner of Brooklyn are not exactly bursting with delicious beers, or even Russian beers, but we grabbed some and did as we were supposed to. Khinkali ($9) come as a plate of six, and are really good. We discussed the relevance of a soup dumpling face-off with Chinese xiao long bao, as these are filled with a superb broth and hunk of beef. The restaurant is quite deep into Brooklyn, as the D train is making its final turn towards Coney Island right above the place, but grab a group of friends and make this a trip. Disappointment is not an option here, especially if you have a table full of people and food. read more
