The food was phenomenal!!!!!!! I am sorry they don't have reviews on yelp, by reading i was expecting - so so food-but it was so much better I had chanahi ( meat in clay pot in sauce), ostriy- beef in red sauce, we had chicken dish with garlic-& salad with dressing with nuts/ every dish was excellent- fragrant - fresh- bold with flavors, sadly ( understandably) restaurant industry struggles with ingredients, labor, cost.... service was - less then ok-( i don't think he have experience, but hey-happy someone bringing the food)- its why i hold 1 star back-; alcohol was -2 options for beer( only on top( no bottles));2- red wines- Georgian( i do like them)- its-hidden jewel- i have to go back!!!!( & i don't say often that - even before Covid)-

Georgia on my mind? Well yes Ray -- with a twist. This is not the land of Jimmy Carter -- but it is that peanut farmer president's 40 year old immigration policies who these Georgians of the Caucuses have to thank -- for a soft Brighton Beach landing and a sturdy foothold for their very authentic Tbilisi-style restaurant. Brighton is, after all, the land of milk and honey for expat Soviets and their gold coast in NYC -- and a more recent influx from central asia and the Caucuses has written yet another chapter into a centuries old melting-pot food history of Brooklyn. As a well traveled expat, sweetie knows Georgian food from her visits there -- when Russia was still a "Union" -- and she was skeptical about the authenticity of everything we ate -- but I am impressed by the contemporary Georgian food culture at GH, it's service and the overall ambiance. For starters -- the room itself is warm -- as in earth-tones with wood everywhere -- which makes it very appealing on the cold and blustery day when we visited. This is also true about the wait staff -- two sturdy young gents who happily answered all of my questions about the variety of food we ate -- and the Georgian wine that we drank with it (Mariani btw - make sure the SKU starts with "86" to be sure its authentic -- said our server). The dry white was crisp but perhaps too dry and lacking in depth and fruit for my tastes. Just about everything in Georgian cuisine relies on ground walnuts, pomegranate and a spice mix known as "khmeli suneli" -- the last being an intoxicating mix of coriander, dill, basil, bay leaf, marjoram, blue fenugreek, parsley, safflower or saffron, black pepper, celery, thyme, hyssop, mint, and hot pepper. This is the Georgian version of Indian curry or garam masala and it made the lamb dishes we ate exotic and redolent with bright flavors. The Georgian salad starter was infused with this spicing and walnuts which turned simply sliced cucumbers, red onions and tomatoes into a home run of flavors and textures. Get this. The Phali is another winning first -- showcasing several versions of ground and spiced walnuts with additions -- like spinach in one, eggplant in another and a third wrapped in steamed cabbage. The shoti served with -- a traditional crusty bread delivered steaming hot -- is just the best vehicle for eating the various walnut spreads and the tastiest bread I've eaten in ages -- so good we took the leftovers home with us. The Chachapuri was decent -- this is basically a tomato-less cheese pizza -- but with Salaguni cheese -- a salty and tart version of mozzarella -- not as stringy and very creamy. Nice. Less to our liking was the Khinkali -- the Georgian take on xiao long bao -- which here is made with beef and pork (Tbilisi style) but which we've had elsewhere with only ground lamb as a filling -- which I prefer. The dough used for these dumplings was thick and rubbery -- and while the filling was decent and spiced authentically -- the overall experience was underwhelming. Somewhat better was the Chanakhi -- a traditional lamb stew with potatoes, tomato's and eggplant -- braised until all the flavors and spicing come together. Very satisfying -- if a bit skimpy on the lamb -- and heavy on the rendered fat -- but great for mopping with the gratis bread. The lulya kebab (Georgian adana) comes wrapped in lavash and is pretty standard Georgian fare -- the filling is well seasoned ground lamb served with roasted potato wedges along with house made satsebeli (tomato) and tkemali (green plum) sauces -- 2 traditional sauces served with this meal. We also ate an excellent chicken kebab that was perfectly moist -- well seasoned with Georgian spices and charred just right. On the food alone -- GH is a 3.5 for me -- I round up to 4 based on the vibe and service. This is not your average mediterranean food and you should not confuse the two -- it is much more sophisticated in flavoring and spicing -- unique really. GH also offers live music on weekends and caters to a mostly local Russian/Georgian crowd said our server -- serving until 3:30 am. If you are up for a cultural immersion foray in Brooklyn -- this is one place to consider. Top Tip: GH was empty for our early dinner -- but I so want to hang out here and drink Georgian wine into the wee hours -- with Georgian music blasting in my ear. I can tell these folks know how to party and with that in mind -- we will be back. tbc

Fantastic !! We started with Khachapuri, a delishious I must say " white pizza " type dish. Oozy, just amazing. Then we had Kuoati, a sausage on a bed of basic French fries and red onion. Khinkali, my favorite fried dumplings, resembling soup dumplings. And finally Chicken Tabaka, a Cornish hen cut up and dry grilled with an amazing spice. A great meal with good friends, some vodka and wine !!

My daughter checked it out but she didn't have socks to play so she stayed at the table with us. For appetizers, we ordered the dumplings (so cute and delicious), the pancakes and the pizza. The pizza was mediocre. For our entrees I had the shrimp avocado salad and my husband got the gosht burger. Our entrees were really tasty. We also got a side of fries for our daughter which we didn't really have to order. It is a little pricey but look at their location! When we got the bill we were charged $10 for the play place. I asked for it to be removed because my daughter didn't really play there and didn't have socks so our waitress removed it. It's not a big playground area and how long can kids really ply there if they're there for the restaurant? They charge $10 on weekday and $15 on weekends.

Chicken schnitzel so good, vegetables crisp and perfectly grilled, and the vinaigrette on my salad couldn't have been better! But I'm not done. As much as I enjoyed lunch there are things I'd like to point out: ### The lunch special is advertised as four courses. Rather than "courses" they might say "components." First comes soup, then your entree plated with salad and a choice of sides. If the salad was served separately, they could claim three courses. But four is a stretch. ### I ordered the cold borscht listed on the menu. (There are different variations.) They gave me hot. If it wasn't so good -- it really was delicious -- I would have asked them to switch it up. ### Lunch was advertised at $20 but we were charged $19. ($19 is obviously preferable, but numbers should be consistent.) They tack on 18% service plus a credit card up-charge -- which we've come to expect. ### I'd normally order a cold glass or wine. BUT .... with wine almost the same price as lunch, I said "no way!" When the manager, a very nice gentleman, asked how we enjoyed our meals, I suggested serving a specially-priced house wine $8-$10, to go with lunch. Nope. I didn't understand the rationale, but he said it would encourage under-age drinkers. (The only customers i saw were old folks and young families!) Other than neighboring Tatiana, cafes that were here years before are gone. Azure is good. Maybe a smidge short of five stars, but good enough for me to think about a return visit. While I never knew borscht could be prepared hot, I'm now going to seek it out. Give it a try!

Then we learned they had just opened so that was understandable; I'm guessing these things will get sorted out soon! Sorry I don't have specific details like the names of the dishes. They have a 4-course lunch, I think it was $24. A soup, a main, salad, and a side. There were 4 of us. We each chose a different soup and there were still several other soups on the menu that we didn't try. They were delicious! Everything we had was fantastic. Lots of fresh flavors; really nicely prepared. I think it is Ukrainian food but maybe there are other influences as well. At $24, the lunch was a good deal. However, there was an additional 18% charge (not a tip though, that was extra).I don't know if it was some kind of tax (we are not from the area so I don't know if this is typical). I am also not sure how much the drinks cost, I think they might have been higher than at other places. But we were on vacation! It is a nice place, on the beach. I liked that there were some little tables basically ON the beach, and there was a lovely covered patio/bar area (that's where we sat - we were a little sandy but they assured us it wasn't a problem). There was also a proper indoor dining area but I believe that is for people who are wearing clothing and not just swimwear. Bathrooms are inside, down some stairs, a railing is loose but I'm assuming that will be fixed - it's a nice place. Everyone working there was so sweet and helpful. Even though the menu and the whole ordering system was fairly daunting for all of us, they were really trying their best. These things will get worked out, I'm confident. You just might want to verify prices of things before you order if that might be a concern. It's also a hookah bar, a customer near us was smoking. It smells lovely, not at all like tobacco or other smokeables. Everything was great. I was pleasantly surprised by a sauce that came on the side of the chicken kebab - it was really spicy. The main dishes were delicious; substantial and filling and it was perfect to have the salad and the grilled vegetable sides (or fries). In my opinion the soups were the absolute stars though and I would love if they served them in flights!
