Weird location a bit hard to find but once inside, a very happening place! Like the concrete floors, warehouse type space, and dim lighting. Wait staff very helpful and attentive. Had the chicken wraps, three generous portions. The infamous Mac and cheese lived up to its hype both flavorfully creamy and a good sized bowl. The broccolini was served cold, tasty but only three stems. Conversely, the plate of Brussels sprouts was joyfully buttery and super delicious. The pineapple upside down mini bundt cake was dry and the coconut ice cream could have been more frozen. Great cup of coffee, however. A bit expensive for the portions but overall not a bad experience. read more

I've visited this restaurant on a number of occasions. The bartenders on the first floor seem stressed and lack basic respect for its customers. They ignored me and my guests, we repeatedly asked for water, they never made eye contact. The two bartenders acted as if they hated each other. They worked in close proximity however they never spoke to one another. They threw empty bottles in the garbage, scared me and my guests the nose was frightening. Glass breaking is an awful noise. It was obvious they hated each other. I spoke to one of the ladies inside the restaurant seating guests about our experience. She didn't seem surprise. We don't treat each other like that in Oakland. Came here a couple of times with friends for drink and dinner before heading out to shows or the city. From the outside you can only see the bar and it doesn't look that big. Once you walk in past the bar, you are greeted with with a spacious room with art displayed on the wall. This place reminds me of a hipster place that you can find in SF. I'm not hating on it because I like hipster places. Their bar is pretty big and they have a good variety of alcohol. The food here is delicious. I've exclusively order the specials because when the waiter paints the picture, I fall in love with the dishes. I've ordered the the grilled chicken with peach and feta salad special. I normally do not like feta that much but it was a good compliment with the mixed green salad and peaches. The chicken had good flavor and moist. You can tell they put a good mixture of herbs and spices since chicken can get dry if you do not put enough seasoning. I was originally wondering what I would need for starches but the dish was good without it. My girlfriend and I always order the cheeseless mac n cheese made of butternut squash. thinking that this dish was originally weird when I ordered it. It its absolutely delicious. I am surprised it tastes so similar to mac and cheese but without the cheese! Using butternut squash instead of cheese was a great touch. Was looking for a cool place to hang out for dinner and wow did we find it. What can I say, but you need to go. Eclectic, interesting and a very intricate and exotic food and cocktail menu. The drinks were on point! Instead of an entree, I had the bone marrow w/ toast and the crab cakes. Loved them! My wife had the burger, which I tried and was very fresh tasting, and flavorful, but not greasy or heavy. The cool/ weird art on every wall only adds to the uniqueness of this place which also features a DJ playing great music, keeping the place alive. Love the industrial feel of this loft lounge. Me and two other friends were pretty hungry so we were just blurting out dishes when the waiter arrived to take our order. I just had a virgin white peach mojito. It was a bit on the sweet side but I enjoyed it. I'd been here for the "after party" a few times in the past and just had drinks. I finally got a chance to have dinner. It was packed with minglers and eaters. We were seated in under 10 minutes right in front of the DJ booth which I thought was going to require us to yell at each other to converse but it turned out fine. I ordered the crab po boy and min mojito, both were delicious. A few other friends of mine ordered fries and they were yummy but definitely easier to eat with a fork since they are more like bite sized fries than the usual fry size. It looked like someone got chop happy and the result was an abundance of mini fries. Came here for an early dinner before our show and our party was absolutely blown away by this place. Definitely make reservations..Place is huge...Great vibe..Service was great.. For my meal I ordered the mussels and fries..And yes..It was delicious and I did want to lick my plate clean. We're from Marin, but have probably been to Mua half-a-dozen times now. It has worked for dinners for two, for big celebration dinners for 20, for late-night appetizers, and for showing off the best of Oakland to folks from the East Coast. The vibe is as fun as the food is fantastic. Loud music and graffiti fill the large unfinished space. An A's or Cal Bears game is always on the bar TV. Mua just exudes urban Oakland. On a nice night the patio out front can be a refuge from the music if you want that. The food on the large menu has never disappointed. Some favorites are the no-cheese mac & cheese made with butternut squash, the fried chicken, the meat loaf, and the kale salad (yes, I know, "How hip," but it is really good.) I've been meaning to try this place for quite a while. Finally went with some out of town guests. We all loved it. Love the cool feel of the interior. Looks tiny from the outside but inside its an ex car dealership (big). Food was awesome and our server Jessica was so good. She really guided us through the menu which made the experience that much more fun. We had the grilled romaine salad, muscles, blackened catfish and all were excellent. We will be back. read more

After deciding to NEVER patronize Air Ultra Lounge (ever again), my boyfriend and his native East Bay homies decided to head over to "a new spot" in da town for my 23rd birthday. At first sight, Mua looks like some shady looking ass warehouse but once you walk in, there's smooth music playing and dope decor to ease the reservations you just had ( I absolutely LOVE the co-ed bathrooms!). My group of five walked in to a bar area of about 11 other people but nonetheless everyone seemed to be having a good time. After I downed a few PBR's, my group and I got a little friendly with the other people there and the bartender was super cool. We laughed. We drank. We danced in the empty dining area. We tried some pineapples fermented in vodka. We went home. This place is AWESOME!! If this place was fun with under 20 people, I'm sure it's great on a Friday or Saturday (I heard it's best on those days). Highly recommended! read more

Great spot with a nice outdoor area, eclectic menu, friendly staff and good happy hour food and drink specials. Have been here twice and it will remain on my list. Lots of fun small plates and the main courses are very good and reasonably priced. For me it is a nice spot to stop in early in the evening before trying something else later on my bookmark list. Went here to celebrate two bdays. They take reservations online via OpenTable which is convenient. Place was super packed the night I was there. Service was good, staff was friendly but drinks were super slow- even towards the end of the night so that sucked. Food menu is pretty small and straightforward. I've been here twice and loved the atmosphere of MUA. So I decided to throw my birthday dinner here, which I reserved 3 weeks in advance. Now knowing for future that, this restaurant does not do well with big parties (10 people) and reservations. There was a group of about 5 seated at the table I was suppose to be at. Waiters kept telling me they have been there since 5:30pm but will not leave. My birthday reservations were at 9pm. We waited til 9:45pm to actually be seated. All the waiters were looking at us as if we were crazy and one of the waiters got really disrespectful with my sister because we were asking for an estimated time the table would be ready. Definitely not going to be throwing any birthday parties here at all. Did not receive the service I was looking for the amount of money we've spent at this place. Not happy at all! read more

First off, I didn't eat here, so I can't comment on the food or the table service. If I do at some point, I'll update y'all. A few of us stopped in here after working at The Fox, just wanting to check the place out. I didn't know anything about it except that I walk past it on my way to BART. We got there after midnight, and we loved it! We got three drinks for $19 that would have been $27 in the city, then we danced our asses off to the tasteful DJ. The place has a great layout, with comfy spots to sit on the loft. It has plenty of bathrooms. It has very attractive people, sure to fit into whatever type you like. Went here for a friends birthday dinner last weekend. Didn't know what to expect since it is located next door to the Audi dealership in Oakland. From the front it looks like a club, which I believe what it turns into after midnight. When you first enter there is a full bar on your right and from the looks of it has almost anything you want. On to the food. 1) Food The food is actually pretty good. The menu is small. Don't expect a lot to choose from. They have a decent tapas selection, more tapas than entrees. I can't really remember what we ordered since I didn't order them, but I think this is what we had: -Lamb cheeks: I am not crazy about lamb so this was just OK, but I must say it was tender -Hamachi crudo: I love sashimi but this was actually not bad, it was really refreshing with the olive oil and cucumber -Mussels: The mussels were served in a roasted tomato broth, on top of fries and aioli and it was tasty! a little on the mild side though. -Kabocha Winter Squash Tempura: This was my favorite tapas dish. It was really simple, squash tempura, but their batter is really light and crispy and it was yummy. For my entree I ordered the special: 11 oz Rib Eye steak with spinach and some sort of au gratin potato on the side. It was very flavorful I must say and I totally killed it all except for the spinach, I was too full. However it was on the salty side, but that's OK with me because I like my food salty. Other people might not like it so salty. For drinks I had two cappuccino americano's. I needed to wake up from the drive all the way up there from San Jose in stop-and-go traffic. The coffee was strong, but I thought it could have been hotter temp. For dessert I had one of their beer floats, a dark coffee porter beer with caramel ice cream. It was pretty good if you like beer and coffee! 2) Service The service was OK here, not great. Our waitress took a while to bring us our drinks and food. And she came around maybe once during dinner to ask if we needed anything. She almost spilled our coffee on us because her hands were shaking so much. Not sure if she had some medical condition, or if she was on something. It was only the coffee that made her shake, no other dish. 3) Atmosphere Like others have noted, it gets really loud in here. They have a DJ playing while you eat and you have to literally yell across the table if you have a large group. This place is definitely for the 25 - 40 year old crowd. The music was kind of interesting, they played everything from lounge to jazz to Michael Jackson to Bell Biv Devoe to Too Short. All while you are eating. They have really abstract art on the walls, some were cool and some were weird. It was nice, and I liked the tall ceilings. 4) Conclusion Overall a good experience at a young and hip restaurant on the Berkeley border in Oakland. They serve dinner really late as we saw people coming in to eat even at 11pm. They turn the restaurant into a club/lounge at midnight supposedly. Everyone in my group didn't want to wait around to see so we left. I would come back here if I was in the area to try out some other tapas, but I wouldn't make the drive all the way up to Oakland just to eat here. The chicken lacked flavor (Popeye's & KFC are better), the coleslaw tasted store bought and the saving grace of the whole dish was the corn bread. The corn bread had more flavor than the fried chicken. Their iced tea was pretty banging but when I got the bill I noticed they charge $3.50 for iced tea and I got a refill, so that was $7.00!! My partner had some kind of fish crudo and then the mussels. He seemed satisfied, but I don't like fish or mussels, so I can't vouch for them. Despite my lackluster dining experience, the atmosphere here is very cool and funky. I love the vibes. I'd definitely go back and try other dishes and maybe a cocktail or two. I think I'll host my b-day here next month. They do bottle service in the lounge upstairs. Oh, and I almost forgot, the service was on point. Our waitress was great and the food came out pretty quick. They even fixed our wobbly table without me asking. if you are reading this, do give Mua a try. You must try the "Mac and Cheese" because it's made with butternut squash but tastes like mac and cheese. Of course it tastes like a healthier but you still could have fooled me with a blind taste. All of the other small plates were also well done. And try the Strawberry Ginger Lemonade. It's really fruity but I was slightly hungover so this was the most I could handle that night. Crispy Tofu = absolutely necessary if coming here to eat. Awesome atmosphere. The artwork is forever changing with pieces from local artists (as well as the owner). If you go later in the evening there are dj's and the eating area is often converted into a dance floor. The restaurant is a lot bigger than it appears to be from the front. There is an entire back area and 2nd level. The music is hip, food is creative (mostly with a Southern flair), and the drinks are delicious (several types, not all super sweet). It gets really packed on Art Murmur nights so be prepared to wait if you don't have a reservation. It's mostly brick and timber which adds an industrial artsy feel - there is art throughout as well. I like. Food: Fried Chicken - very good, spicy coleslaw. Ahi Tuna - not the best I've ever had, but is good, especially if you're just looking for something to snack on while having drinks. It's not a large portion. Mussels - love, extremely flavorful broth. Pork Lettuce Wraps - delicious flavor, would rather they used iceburg lettuce, think they're using butter lettuce so it's kind of chewy. I like my lettuce wraps crisp and refreshing. Price: Small plates are between $10-15 (and they are small), Entrees are between $15-25, good portions. Drinks are around $10 for specialty or $5 for beers. Great for groups or a date-night. We saw this on Check Please Bay Area. We were a party of four. We decided to "graze" and ordered numerous small plates and just one larger item, the Frites & Mussels. It was all so very good but the Frites & Mussels were a big hit with us. The mussels were tender, large and the broth was superb. We must have eaten a whole baguette of bread trying to sop up all the wonderful broth. And the fries were also a nice touch. This is a classic French dish in Brasseries all over Paris but they serve the fries and mussels separately. Combining them works really well. The Calamari was another excellent dish - lightly breaded, well seasoned and not greasy at all. The Brussels Sprouts sauteed in brown butter were really tasty and tender. Lamb Cheeks were so very tender - kinda like the texture of boneless oxtail stew. If you get this, ask for bread to use with the luscious sauce. And it's the first time I've had a salad of string beans, butter lettuce and nectarines and lightly, but perfectly, dressed. Our desserts were Bread Pudding and Flourless Chocolate Cake. We finished with coffee and Cappuccino. It was all good. And our server, Dusty, was a great fellow! We enjoyed him a lot! And the glass of Malbec I had was one of the best in recent memory! The atmosphere is busy and loud, me being easily distracted and have selective hearing would be torture to have a meaningful conversation. I was torn between the fried chicken or the duck confit. The waiter who was very attentive (when he was around) recommended (what I could hear) the duck confit. Me thinking he's the waiter, and he should know what's good... Went with the duck confit. BIG MISTAKE well unless you r into spinach salads then by all means order the duck confit. The reason why I said that was because my small roasted duck leg was sitting on a big pile of spinach drenched in some sort of white cream sauce with some almonds. It was just too much going on, and I couldn't even taste the flavor of the duck,my taste buds got distracted by the white sauce and some vinaigrette that was on my unsolicited spinach salad there was also something that looked like steamed cabbage, but was sweet or something. ... Granted I had a duck confit while in France a good bunch of times, so I know what it should taste like, this duck confit with a m. Night Shyamalan twist got me confused and sad. What I thought I was getting was simple crispy duck leg Sans white sauce... Some potatoes and salad on the side or something...my gf ordered a salad which she wasnt happy about either and from what I saw looked sad. As we finished our dinner we thought maybe their specialty is dessert... The creme Brulee looks popular and flour less chocolate cake sounds good.
