Not to be that person but, when asked, the server specifically told us there would be 4 pieces of fried chicken but came out with 3 pieces, and when we asked about it she said "oh yeah i meant like 3-4" and walked away. Haha. That is a 25% difference and $35 for 3 pieces of very mediocre (flavor profile wise) fried chicken. You can get 3 pieces of fried chicken, a cornbread, and a side that slaps WAY HARDER at Minnie Bell's for $15. We were already thinking that the food was mid so maybe the chicken incident felt like a double down on the bad experience. I've been here a couple times and there's so much to choose from on the menu that I always find myself lost in a world of confusion because it all looks so delicious. They have a really great drink menu that you may want to try more and more drink until you can barely call an uber home. 2nd time here, and I'm glad I came back. Before me and the people I came with were seated, we were temperature checked, and walked to the back table where the mirror made the place look enormous. We ordered a whole bunch of dishes, and they were all good. I was surprised that I liked everything we chose to get. I personally chose the CBQ Burger which the slaw on the burger is what made that burger. We ate Crispy Tofu, Fried Calamari, Po Boy, Brussel Sprouts, Cheese less Mac & Cheese, and Chicken Wings. This part is my recommendation for the restaurant owner. The CBQ Burger is good, but the patty is too soft to stay in the bun, it just falls apart. Mua definitely set the standard! It was so delicate to my fork and knife, yet so tasty with so much crab meat. I think this one is my favorite. Don't leave here without ordering this. Fried Calamari - Calamari is calamari. It was nothing short of outstanding, but with so many great dishes here, I might skip on this next time. Crab Cakes - These had my taste buds going crazy! The texture was so fluffy with a firm crisp on the outsides--just how a perfect crab cake should be. If you order something heavy but need an app, choose this one. Mussels - I really enjoyed the mussels, but the fries got soggy quick! Both the mussels and fries are tasty, but try to eat the fries quickly, or move them to another plate. This one too makes a very good appetizer. Beef Bone Marrow - This dish is the one that caught my eye. Just the plating alone made this dish so damn sexy. I think this dish is probably one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen on the plate. Whatever was dressed on the top was meh, but the marrow itself was so delightful. We went here to celebrate for a birthday and the customer service is great! We made a reservation for around 6pm. It was t too crowded at the time but when we left, around 730, place was packed! We ordered beef bone marrow, vegetable ragout, fried calamari, mussels with French fries and tramine. I think my overall favorite was the beef bone marrow, super rich and went well with the bread. The vegetable ragout was interesting combination of different flavors, definitely tasted the pesto (big plus for me). Fried calamari was okay, soft and chewy with the batter and the breading did not take over the whole dish. Mussels with French fries was okay, not a big fan. I thinking was with a wine sauce, didn't know until I tried the sauce, super strong in wine flavoring! Tramine was super yummy, lamb was tender and fell off the bone super easily. This place is super lively on a Friday night and on the weekends! Pretty hard to get a reservation and they require you to put down a credit card in case you cancel. In terms of food, here were my favorites: No Cheese Mac n' Cheese, Ahi Tuna Sashimi, and Mussels. The vegan mac n cheese was definitely the way to go. Had to order a second plate for my table once we were done haha. Even though the sashimi came in really tiny pieces, I think the flavor of the miso glaze was great! I had really high hopes for this place and was left disappointed on my birthday. I placed a reservation for 15 on a Saturday. My house went ahead of time to try their happy hour -- which was great, and the bartenders were amazing -- we were able to chill outside (in their seating area) with our drinks. The start of our night was great and my group was impressed by how big the inside looked. This would be a cool location for a party/event! Things got worse when we were seated. It started with us not being allowed to have happy hour prices or order from the bar once we were seated. It didn't make sense why our group couldn't pay happy hour prices for the same drinks...coming from the same bar...just because we were seated at a table. This was super annoying. Additionally, we only had one waitress for our table and service was slow. There were 2-4 employees at the front counter most of the times and I didn't understand why none of them were able to help refill drinks or take additional drink orders. Especially after we got up and asked after we had not seen our waitress for a few minutes. Three or four of us got the steak and were really unimpressed. Our server last night seemed pretty unprofessional and basically kinda went to one of my guests and told them that they ordered something that they did not order. Honestly feel like gratuity at the service we were provided should have not been automatic for the type of service received. On top of that, she left the item we did not order on the bill after clearly going over that we did not order it. They also ran out of bread and charged us the extra for gluten free bread even though they ran out. The food was also either right below mid and or just terrible. Definitely don't order the blackened catfish. I hope the server who served us doesn't serve more than 2-3 people anymore. I met a friend at this hipster bar restaurant located next to the Audi car dealership. Mua has some very interesting cocktails. My friend ordered a Bismarck which is a cocktail made with vodka, pear, elderflower, lemon, and basil. The bartender was pretty helpful on the wine selection and offered up a small taste of a French Chenin Blanc before I ultimately chose a French Sancerre. During dinner, we ordered a bottle of Vistalba Corte cab. It was a decent cab although I think overpriced. We did wait about 30 minutes for a table and I thought it was strange when I put my name down, the host said to check back with him in 30. When I got up walked over to the hostess stand, he said it would be a few more minutes. I asked if he could come to get me. The bar we were sitting at was only about 10 ft. away. But the request seemed to put him out. The menu has a wide range and many small plates to choose. We had the cheese less Mac cheese, ribs and Brussel sprouts. All very tasty and well prepared. The server was efficient and seemed to be wine knowledgeable at least about their wine selection. The space is very noisy and pretty busy for a weeknight. I'm glad I stopped in but there are so many other restaurants in the Bay Area- there wasn't anything special that would compel me to be a regular. read more

Diggin the vibe at Mua, SO MUCH. Visited for the first time rather recently. One of my besties is getting married (Congrats, Ann D. ..soon to be Ann P.), and as a first time bridal party get together, we met up here! We had a reservation for 8pm on a Saturday night, and it was lit. Street parking can be sparse in this area of Oakland, but I had no issue finding a spot. Just had issues actually backing into it - embarassing! The outside patio area is cute for photo ops. Probably best during the day time. Upon walking in, you're greeted with a long bar until reaching the hostess' podium. The DJ who was spinning that night kept throwin out bangers. My entire dinner, I was questioning things like why there was no dance floor. Why isn't this a club? Why are we sitting? Why are we eating and not dancing? Lol. I started the night off with a Tokyo Collins ~ light, refreshing, tasty, does the trick! This cocktail consists of roku gin, lemongrass, grapefruit, and lemon. Perfect for the summer! For eats, the soft shell crab po'boy caught my fancy. Crab was great texture, bread was soft and buttery, and the side of fries came sliced at the perfect size (prefer them thin!). First thing we noticed was that the music was pretty loud and it was hard to have a conversation without yelling or inching a lot closer. For starters, we got the grilled artichoke and bone marrow. The menu didn't mention that the grilled artichokes were drizzled with lemon juice and my partner has allergies to lemon juice. The bone marrow looked delicious and topped with tons of garlic and cilantro. However, it probably only had 3 good chunks of bone marrow for $16 - not worth it. We both ordered the grilled ribeye with french fries. When it first came out the dish looked delicious on top of a bed of perfectly cooked fries. The fries were tasty and the butter definitely made the steak juicier. The steak had some nice crispy bits. But as we both ate into the steak more, it started to taste bitter as you could taste burnt debris on the steak. Like that bitter taste you get that sticks to the bottom of fire oven pizzas. Also as you ate closer to the center (I got medium) the steak was pretty chewy. The steak dish is $39 by the way. Overall, it was a subpar experience with a fine dining price tag. The service was fine but everything else was poor value. It's not a place I would bring my mother for a good or tasty experience. read more

Not quite dimly lit, but you know the ambiance was there, whether it be for a group of friends getting together, or date night. Eccentric art works were all over the walls, and even a dj present to spin some of today's hits. We first had some cocktails (~$12 each), and he went with the Phizzface (love the name, btw!), and I went with the Billy Jean. As for the food, we started off with a crab cakes appetizer- it was definitely pricey ($15 for 2, and some beet salads), but it was a good starter. Would I order it again? At the price point, probably not. For entrees, I went with the mussels with fries- found that there was too much tomato broth for my taste (and I don't like soggy fries), but that was easily remedied. The mussels were also fat and juicy! Pretty yummy meal. My boyfriend went with the duck confit, which came with mixed greens. The greens complemented the duck well- it was O-K. I think they have like 5 dining rooms and 3 bars so the overall feel of the space is amazing - kinda a modern garage type of look. Once we sat down I was somewhat shocked by seeing the "$20 minimum per person" text on the menu. What if you're not that hungry? What if you want to shRe? What if you're ballin on a budget? Although I do believe there wasn't too much of point of making Mac n cheese without cheese but with cream? It still has dairy and still isn't vegan? The decor is extremely unique and the place is pretty spacaious. It almost looks like some sort of art gallery! There are "fake dolls" that almost look human occupying some of the seats, huge basquiat-like paintings on the walls, string lights and a full bar downstairs. The upstairs has tables and a DJ booth, playing hip and trendy music. This restaurant is great for any occasion, and is diverse in age! Very lively and slightly on the louder side it's a great place to dine in on a weekend! I've had the salmon, the mussels, the salad, and the fried chicken! The salmon was very good and so was the fried chicken, however the mussels came with fries in a bowl and unfortunately my fries became sort of soggy, I recommend ordering the two dishes separate if you can!
