I've been to Pomet at least seven times, usually with my boyfriend, and I've always had a good experience. Because of that, I chose it to celebrate two of my friends' birthdays on April 11. I was genuinely excited to treat them to a beautiful dinner. That's not what happened. From the moment we sat down, something felt off. We had just come from the Alvin Ailey show and were catching up, so we were taking our time. Still, it felt like we were being rushed. The pacing of the food made no sense. The salad came out quickly, which was fine, but before we even started it, two fried dishes hit the table. I asked directly if they were trying to rush us because I've been here many times and that has never happened. The response I got felt dismissive, like I didn't understand how they serve their food. I do. This was different. By the time we got to the fried dishes, they were cold and not good. And honestly, they didn't seem hot when they first came out. That pretty much set the tone. The pasta came later and was also cold. At that point, I asked to speak with the owner. I've met her before when I've come in with my boyfriend and she's always been warm and present. This time I was told she was busy, and while I could see she was in the back of the house, she did not appear so busy that she couldn't step away briefly to address a guest who was clearly disappointed. No one ever came back to follow up. The main dishes didn't recover anything. The cod had no flavor and was cold. The pork chop was tough, fatty, and just not good. It didn't feel like the same kitchen at all. What made it harder to ignore was looking around the room. Other tables were getting a completely different experience. Food coming out properly paced, hot, and with attention. Our table felt like an afterthought, especially after we raised a concern early on. At one point, someone offered to take two dishes off the bill. I appreciated the gesture, but that wasn't the issue. I wasn't trying to get anything for free. I was trying to give my friends a really nice birthday dinner. This is a Michelin-recognized restaurant, which is exactly why I chose it. I've known them to deliver. We arrived at 8:09PM on a Wednesday night as walked in upon finding it while walking by, sign on the door said open and when looking it up on Yellp.business hour stated close at 9PM. The food looks good and Yelp reviews were positive so we wanted to try. We were greeted right the way by the friendly gentleman at the bar/ kitchen counter. Waited a min for the host/waitress to arrive, she was finishing up taking order for the table next to us. The restaurant has at least 3 open tables. One right by the entrance and at least 2 inside. Host not as friendly asked if we had reservation and we said no. She said let she check with the kitchen to see if she can seat us, walked to the back for a few second and cane back to inform us that she had just sat the last reservation. So we were turn away 50min before the actual close time. My husband said "oh well they didn't want our money today " First time ever in my life time that we were turn away at a restaurant with open tables close to one hour before the actual business hours close. I understand last call for kitchen closing as well as bar a few minutes before actual closing time. If you were to say reservation only or last seating for food at 8PM, sign to say closed at the door perhaps I would understand. We were perplexed with questions such as did they run out of food, was the kitchen closed at this hour or was it because we were Asian. Either way one would never know and I am not sure if I would care to come back. C'est la vie. We had a great dinner near by so I am not sad about it but highly suggested that you make reservation so you don't walk away feeling the way we did, but then again there are no shortage of restaurants and Michelin star restaurants in the bay area, and survival of the restaurant business is a challenge for so many, as you see restaurants closed and new one opened constantly all around, so new customer is truly a gift that many business spent $$$ to marketing and ads to gain, so I am thrill for them that they have enough that they wouldn't need more. I've been to Pomet twice, once when they first opened and once recently when they got onto the Michelin Guide. Both times were excellent and service was impeccable. My husband went for an early dinner last night. They graciously allowed us to start a half hour early. The entire staff is very welcoming, attentive and hyper efficient. The interior is very well decorated. This is truly a farm to table experience. We enjoyed everything we ate: Chips, carrots, turnip tots, duck pappardelle, polenta w/squash, rolls & blueberry/peach cobbler. We also had a glass of wine & a hazy IPA. Both our favorite was the cobbler with fresh blueberry ice cream. Things to note: 1. You need reservations. Pomet will charge $25 a person. 2. Pomet puts 20% tip on your bill. Fine by us, we usually like to leave a cash tip though, to ensure server receives. 3. Wine list was limited to us. To be fair, we are a bit snobbish on our wine selection. 4. Serving size is small. The duck was cooked well and the pork chop as super tender and rich, but overall the price was pretty high around $40-50 each. The appetizers were interesting but portion too small for the price ($25 each). We got the fried quail, cod collar, and ugly mushrooms. The Hokkaido milk bread was delicious - very warm and buttery, but overall I usually expect bread and butter to be included rather than an extra $9 charge for only 2 pieces. I can't believe I only just discovered Pomet! It's a cozy little gem in the Piedmont area. I came in without a reservation and ended up sitting at the bar. Since we had already ate dinner elsewhere, we came here for a light snack. We ordered the ugly mushroom caramelle and the hokkaido milk rolls. The ugly mushroom caramelle was so good! It was filled, creamy with a variety mix of mushrooms, and the breadcrumbs and sunchoke chips added the perfect texture. The Hokkaido milk rolls were simple and classic. I was expecting a small portion as appetizers, but it ended up being quite filling! I'm a little bummed I ate somewhere else earlier because I would've loved to try more of the menu but definitely an excuse to come back. Our server was so sweet, and the service was 11/10. It's a bit on the pricey side, but definitely worth it for a treat or special occasion. I recommend this place and I can't wait to return! read more

Service was a mixed bag. Lots of explanations; a bit too controlling in terms of when dishes we ordered would be brought to us, and definitely too slow. I am used to fine dining that is leisurely, but this went quite a bit beyond that. The service was rude from the start. When I ordered, the server said "you have to order everything at once," not explaining, just attitude. Since I made our reservation just hours before, we were only able to get a patio table. I was a little concerned since it's the coldest month of the year, but the restaurant provides heaters and even soft, fluffy blankets for outdoor diners. I didn't even need a jacket. Every staff member was professional, courteous, and attentive. The food was superb. There were two ladies at the front; one continued taking reservations on the phone without acknowledging us, and when my husband politely asked if there was a table, she just kept talking. The other lady said she didn't know and didn't offer to help either. To make things worse, we overheard another group being offered three different seating options even though they were walk-ins like us. It was confusing and honestly disappointing to see that level of inconsistency and disregard for new guests. After being completely ignored for several minutes, we decided to just leave. Our server and the staff were very attentive; wiping the table after our appetizers and main meal, refilling water carafe and our water glasses. The food was really good. We did family style; sharing our appetizers and entrees. Our favorite appetizers dishes were: the ugly mushroom filled pasta and the crunchy Liberty duck leg. The miso butter sauce in the ugly mushroom was tasty; not too salty. The pasta balanced out the sauce and texture of the mushroom. The crispiness of the duck with the tenderness of the duck meat was heavenly. It was one of our favorite dishes. We also ordered the Turnip tots and Pappardelle with meat. It was okay. For our entrees, we ordered the 15 oz NY Strip steak, the Char Siu with lettuce wrap leaves and the Butternut squash Risotto. The steak was cooked perfectly - medium rare. Every bite was perfect! The Char Siu was good. We had to cut the the pieces into smaller bite size chunks before adding it into our lettuce wrap. The risotto had good flavors and it was a lighter dish to balance the two meat entrees. Dessert was carrot cake and a chocolate tart. The carrot cake was delicious and moist with good flavors. The chocolate tart was good. All and all, the service was exceptional and the food very good. This is a Michelin green star rated restaurant, so be prepared for an expensive meal. I get running a restaurant is a low margin business, but trying to justify these prices by creating a trendy vibe (you know, waiters with matching aprons, organic farm xyz) isn't going to cut it. Like Parche or Reve, but even less food (and they both are on this same trend). More importantly, the food is outrageously priced for a prep that is nothing extraordinary or differentiating of places in this style. Yes it's a bit more elevated but doesn't demand this price. The carrots: about 3 carrots sliced into 1/4 slivers. The chicken wing: amazing. Not amazing were literally serving 2 pieces. The duck papperdelle: amazing. But $20+ for a half portion?! Belotti is literally next door...I go there every week... for sub $20 not only is their homemade pasta absurd, the sauces stellar, but the portion is "normal"...i.e. 2x Pomet. Black cod: $50 and 2 filets that 1 person would barely consider a meal. Boring. The duck: good. With 4 slices of broccolini and that's it. Getting the trend? The nerve of the staff to rec "sharing" these meals. In essence what they are saying is we are expensive and we'll tell our guests to split meals that are barely enough for one so that when the bill comes at least the price won't scare them. read more

We enjoyed the bbq oysters and the duck confit which was tender and smoky, with radish and plum on the side. The owner features produce from their farm and we enjoyed the peaches in the salad we had. The duck pasta with gochujang was very subtle and the shredded duck was minimal in our dish. We shared the black cod which was prepared perfectly. The fish was melt in your mouth tender and moist with a delicate sauce and pea shoots on the side. The flavor was just missing something, just a bit too subtle for us. I wished we had the mushroom dish and maybe the meat dishes might have been more to our liking. We had the chocolate tart for dessert which was dense and good. Went to try out Pomet for date night. Pomet is an upscale restaurant that is inspiring to get its Michelin star. The staff were nice and very very attentive. We started with butter lettuce peach salad, ugly mushroom pasta and the homemade better for starter. Every thing was fresh and delicious. The pasta was my favorite starter. For mains, we tried the black cod and the duck breast. I ordered the cod because I saw it on the table next to us and looked good and like a nice size since I was hungry. When the cod came out, I was disappointed because of the portion. It was so tiny not even 3 oz. I also saw the table next to us order cod and their portion was twice as big. I feel cheated out of a full portion that's why I'm taking away some stars. When you pay that much for dinner you want to be served a full portion. I left hungry. read more

When arriving, the sign was printed on their door. That being said, this was our very first "hole in the wall" Michelin Green Star restaurant. Reservations made on Tock with a $25 deposit per person and a small service charge. Offering both indoor and outdoor seatings. Open kitchen that was connected from the entrance wall to the very back wall. For a Michelin restaurant, the layout was...petite. Most of the dining area tables can host about 3-4 people, with one private dining area that offered 1 table that may host about 5-6 people. I say petite because they only had one restroom. Nonetheless, it felt very warm and inviting inside. Farm-to-table dishes were so delicious. Everything we ordered, 6 appetizers and 4 entrees, were excellent and to our liking. (Pictures will be posted) Service was one of most top-notch. We've been to multiple 3 Michelin star establishments and they did not compare to what Pomet had to offer. Never had to ask for anything because every need/want were anticipated and executed. There was a moment when my mom had to step aside and her main course did not touch down until she arrived. Napkins were neatly folded when the seat was empty. Without even asking for a taster on a Cabernet from Lebanon, I decided to order it. However, the server brought a splash of it for me to try before serving a full glass. One of the appetizers had crumbled bacon, but I forgot to ask for it on the side. When served, they automatically put it on the side because of the allergen notes that were made on our reservation. I mean, we were blown away! The level of attentiveness and customer service was one of the best I've ever had. Bravo Pomet team!!! I had to withhold one star from my rating because just as much as food and service is important to me, desserts hold the same weight of importance. This is where it lacked...immensely...it was painful. Only 3 items offered on their dessert menu so of course, I say "all of the above please." * Donut holes with pear sauce. Very basic and the pear sauce literally looked like apple sauce. * Leche Flan - Extremely dense that it felt pasty. Felt like I needed a glass of milk. * Fruit bowl with yogurt and figs. Very misleading. We expected a medley of fruits, but just figs on top of interesting yogurt. They added molasses to the yogurt, making it taste like Chinese herbal medicine. None of the desserts were appetizing, nor appealing. It fell short. Wish the desserts were just as amazing as their appetizers and main courses. As they are a farm-to-table establishment, menu will change with the season. That being said, I look forward to dining at Pomet again in the future to see what other delightful dishes are created. Great food, great service. I almost gave it 4.5 because of the price, but I can't, and I want them to have a Michelin star so 5 it was :-)
