I love the food at Pomet where I have dined at a handful of times. A serious "deal breaker" is the exceptionally skimpy portions. It reminds me when Nouvelle Cuisine became popular years ago. Literally my ($34) eggplant-like-Parmesan entree was comprised of 1-2 wafer thin pieces of eggplant with a a sliver of cheese and fresh delicate tomato sauce. I eat at farm to table restaurants frequently but this was simply extremely Go-Away-Hungry portions. That has never happened to me in any dining experience and I tend to prefer organic best quality ingredients over quantity. I only write this review because I want to continue to dine at Pomet. Please just be a bit more generous in your portions. read more

Pomet is an example of true farm to table cuisine. I love how open and honest they are about where and how they source their ingredients and their authenticity shines through their food. The menu changes according to what veggies and fruits are in season. Since it's approaching the end of summer, flavors from fruits and veggies like peaches, pears and corn were featured in their menu. Not only was the food amazing, but so was the service. All the servers were knowledgeable, caring and led with so much grace. This spot earned their Michelin green star for all the right reasons! When you dine with foodies who don't mind indulging you get to try a variety of items from: STARTERS :: TURNIP TOTS - crispy exterior with an unexpected creamy interior. Recommended by Cherylynn N to get and glad we did! :: SQUID INK PASTA with Dungeness crab - perfectly cooked pasta with a wonderful acidic yet briny broth - piece of leg meat crab. Of course, wish it had more :: PAPPERDELLE with duck sugo - wide noodles perfectly al dente with rich tomato based, red wine duck ragu with a slight kick from black pepper. Comfort food MAINS :: BEEF SHORT RIB - wonderfully tender and like butta. Definitely sous vide and finished off with some smoke. I've been to Pomet at least seven times, usually with my boyfriend, and I've always had a good experience. Because of that, I chose it to celebrate two of my friends' birthdays on April 11. I was genuinely excited to treat them to a beautiful dinner. That's not what happened. From the moment we sat down, something felt off. We had just come from the Alvin Ailey show and were catching up, so we were taking our time. Still, it felt like we were being rushed. The pacing of the food made no sense. The salad came out quickly, which was fine, but before we even started it, two fried dishes hit the table. I asked directly if they were trying to rush us because I've been here many times and that has never happened. The response I got felt dismissive, like I didn't understand how they serve their food. I do. This was different. By the time we got to the fried dishes, they were cold and not good. And honestly, they didn't seem hot when they first came out. That pretty much set the tone. The pasta came later and was also cold. At that point, I asked to speak with the owner. I've met her before when I've come in with my boyfriend and she's always been warm and present. This time I was told she was busy, and while I could see she was in the back of the house, she did not appear so busy that she couldn't step away briefly to address a guest who was clearly disappointed. No one ever came back to follow up. The main dishes didn't recover anything. The cod had no flavor and was cold. The pork chop was tough, fatty, and just not good. It didn't feel like the same kitchen at all. What made it harder to ignore was looking around the room. Other tables were getting a completely different experience. Food coming out properly paced, hot, and with attention. Our table felt like an afterthought, especially after we raised a concern early on. At one point, someone offered to take two dishes off the bill. I appreciated the gesture, but that wasn't the issue. I wasn't trying to get anything for free. I was trying to give my friends a really nice birthday dinner. This is a Michelin-recognized restaurant, which is exactly why I chose it. I've known them to deliver. That's what made this experience so disappointing. It felt rushed, disorganized, and careless. I don't know what's going on there right now, but it was not the same experience I've had before. Included on the Michelin Guide, Pomet features an elevated American menu with fresh ingredients that will stun your tastebuds. The restaurant itself is cozy, with an open view to the kitchen. The service is impeccable, with the table being cleaned and reset after each dish. As for the food itself, the starters are where the magic is. There were two dishes that blew me away, one being the fried duck leg. Imagine grabbing the crispiest piece of Korean fried chicken but elevating that up a level. The skin crunches as you bite into it, revealing duck meat that is perfectly cooked, juicy, and glides off the bone. I would honestly come back here just for this dish. The other famous dish is their 'ugly mushroom filled pasta', which has been on the menu since the restaurant opened. The food is good but the wait in between food courses is unacceptable - at times 30 minutes, which is incredibly frustrating to say the least. It didn't help that the apologies for the wait came right before the food service as though to just check off a box, rather than just checking in with us mid-wait to give a heads-up on a longer wait than normal. I've been to Pomet twice, once when they first opened and once recently when they got onto the Michelin Guide. Both times were excellent and service was impeccable. Truly a farm to table experience and their menu changes with the produce available and at peak through K & J Orchards. Recent standouts were the Hokkaido Milk Bread and the Turnip Tots. Don't sleep on the Pork Chop- it was so tender! There are a lot of places to eat and if there is one place I would recommend for a nice dinner in Oakland, Pomet fits the bill. My husband went for an early dinner last night. They graciously allowed us to start a half hour early. The entire staff is very welcoming, attentive and hyper efficient. The interior is very well decorated. This is truly a farm to table experience. We enjoyed everything we ate: Chips, carrots, turnip tots, duck pappardelle, polenta w/squash, rolls & blueberry/peach cobbler. We also had a glass of wine & a hazy IPA. Both our favorite was the cobbler with fresh blueberry ice cream. Things to note: 1. You need reservations. Pomet will charge $25 a person. 2. Pomet puts 20% tip on your bill. Fine by us, we usually like to leave a cash tip though, to ensure server receives. 3. Wine list was limited to us. To be fair, we are a bit snobbish on our wine selection. 4. Serving size is small. The Hokkaido milk bread was delicious - very warm and buttery, but overall I usually expect bread and butter to be included rather than an extra $9 charge for only 2 pieces. I can't believe I only just discovered Pomet! It's a cozy little gem in the Piedmont area. I came in without a reservation and ended up sitting at the bar. Since we had already ate dinner elsewhere, we came here for a light snack. We ordered the ugly mushroom caramelle and the hokkaido milk rolls. The ugly mushroom caramelle was so good! It was filled, creamy with a variety mix of mushrooms, and the breadcrumbs and sunchoke chips added the perfect texture. The Hokkaido milk rolls were simple and classic. I was expecting a small portion as appetizers, but it ended up being quite filling! I'm a little bummed I ate somewhere else earlier because I would've loved to try more of the menu but definitely an excuse to come back. Our server was so sweet, and the service was 11/10. It's a bit on the pricey side, but definitely worth it for a treat or special occasion. I recommend this place and I can't wait to return! read more

We arrived on time for our reservation and, even though there were several tables available, we were told our reservation wasn't ready and we could wait outside. No waiting inside apparently - we must wait out in the cold. I inquired about the open tables and they simply said "those are reserved"... oh, you mean like how we reserved a table months ago? We waited ten mins or so. A manager walked by and asked if we needed anything. I asked him why we hadn't been seated in spite of our reservation, pointing to the open tables snd he simply said "those are reserved" before running off before we could respond. We arrived at 8:09PM on a Wednesday night as walked in upon finding it while walking by, sign on the door said open and when looking it up on Yellp.business hour stated close at 9PM. The food looks good and Yelp reviews were positive so we wanted to try. We were greeted right the way by the friendly gentleman at the bar/ kitchen counter. Waited a min for the host/waitress to arrive, she was finishing up taking order for the table next to us. The restaurant has at least 3 open tables. One right by the entrance and at least 2 inside. Host not as friendly asked if we had reservation and we said no. She said let she check with the kitchen to see if she can seat us, walked to the back for a few second and cane back to inform us that she had just sat the last reservation. So we were turn away 50min before the actual close time. My husband said "oh well they didn't want our money today " First time ever in my life time that we were turn away at a restaurant with open tables close to one hour before the actual business hours close. I understand last call for kitchen closing as well as bar a few minutes before actual closing time. If you were to say reservation only or last seating for food at 8PM, sign to say closed at the door perhaps I would understand. We were perplexed with questions such as did they run out of food, was the kitchen closed at this hour or was it because we were Asian. Either way one would never know and I am not sure if I would care to come back. C'est la vie. We had a great dinner near by so I am not sad about it but highly suggested that you make reservation so you don't walk away feeling the way we did, but then again there are no shortage of restaurants and Michelin star restaurants in the bay area, and survival of the restaurant business is a challenge for so many, as you see restaurants closed and new one opened constantly all around, so new customer is truly a gift that many business spent $$$ to marketing and ads to gain, so I am thrill for them that they have enough that they wouldn't need more. The service was rude from the start. When I ordered, the server said "you have to order everything at once," not explaining, just attitude. Later, I asked about dessert early and she hit me with a "what?" I literally went silent. Now the food... straight-up mid. * Milk bread: cold and hard, why bother. * Duck leg: honestly good, crispy, flavorful, no complaints here. * Ugly mushroom pasta: delicious, rich, earthy, easily the best dish. * Trout: tasted fishy in a bad way, bland, and took forever to come out. Since I made our reservation just hours before, we were only able to get a patio table. I was a little concerned since it's the coldest month of the year, but the restaurant provides heaters and even soft, fluffy blankets for outdoor diners. I didn't even need a jacket. Every staff member was professional, courteous, and attentive. The food was superb. There were two ladies at the front; one continued taking reservations on the phone without acknowledging us, and when my husband politely asked if there was a table, she just kept talking. To make things worse, we overheard another group being offered three different seating options even though they were walk-ins like us. It was confusing and honestly disappointing to see that level of inconsistency and disregard for new guests. After being completely ignored for several minutes, we decided to just leave. Both my partners duck breast and my cod were overcooked, underseasoned as a result felt incredibly overpriced. No crispness to the skin of the cod or duck. Sauces were bland. Agree with other reviewers that this place was nice and vibey but really loud and feels like a restaurant made by people who like to host friends and cook for dinner parties. Our server and the staff were very attentive; wiping the table after our appetizers and main meal, refilling water carafe and our water glasses. You could have a nice conversation at your table without hearing conversations from other tables. Their menu changes, so you may not see the same items on the menu that we ordered. The food was really good. We did family style; sharing our appetizers and entrees. Our favorite appetizers dishes were: the ugly mushroom filled pasta and the crunchy Liberty duck leg. The miso butter sauce in the ugly mushroom was tasty; not too salty. The pasta balanced out the sauce and texture of the mushroom. The crispiness of the duck with the tenderness of the duck meat was heavenly. It was one of our favorite dishes. We also ordered the Turnip tots and Pappardelle with meat. It was okay. For our entrees, we ordered the 15 oz NY Strip steak, the Char Siu with lettuce wrap leaves and the Butternut squash Risotto. The steak was cooked perfectly - medium rare. Every bite was perfect! The Char Siu was good. We had to cut the the pieces into smaller bite size chunks before adding it into our lettuce wrap. The risotto had good flavors and it was a lighter dish to balance the two meat entrees. Dessert was carrot cake and a chocolate tart. The carrot cake was delicious and moist with good flavors. The chocolate tart was good. All and all, the service was exceptional and the food very good. This is a Michelin green star rated restaurant, so be prepared for an expensive meal. We enjoyed the bbq oysters and the duck confit which was tender and smoky, with radish and plum on the side. The owner features produce from their farm and we enjoyed the peaches in the salad we had. The duck pasta with gochujang was very subtle and the shredded duck was minimal in our dish. We shared the black cod which was prepared perfectly. The fish was melt in your mouth tender and moist with a delicate sauce and pea shoots on the side. The flavor was just missing something, just a bit too subtle for us. I wished we had the mushroom dish and maybe the meat dishes might have been more to our liking. We had the chocolate tart for dessert which was dense and good. Went to try out Pomet for date night. Pomet is an upscale restaurant that is inspiring to get its Michelin star. The staff were nice and very very attentive. We started with butter lettuce peach salad, ugly mushroom pasta and the homemade better for starter. Every thing was fresh and delicious. The pasta was my favorite starter. For mains, we tried the black cod and the duck breast. I ordered the cod because I saw it on the table next to us and looked good and like a nice size since I was hungry. When the cod came out, I was disappointed because of the portion. It was so tiny not even 3 oz. I also saw the table next to us order cod and their portion was twice as big. I feel cheated out of a full portion that's why I'm taking away some stars. When you pay that much for dinner you want to be served a full portion. I left hungry. read more
