I got the pad wun sen with chicken, very impressed. I love the dish (lots of veggies and noodles) and I've had it at a lot of thai restaurants, although not all of them have it. At Muang Thai all the vegetables were cooked to perfection and the chicken was amazingly tender and moist. The ratio of veggies and chicken to noodles was really good too, very generous amount of everything. Will be back to try other things. read more

A delicious place for Thai! I ordered takeout. Order: pineapple fried rice, garlic squid (extra meat), and tofu pad Thai. Pineapple fried rice was good- but lacked a little acidity or bite. (Minor... maybe ask for it spicy?) Tofu pad Thai was delicious. Tofu chunks were larger than average. (2 bites). The dish was delicious. Garlic squid with extra meat: good flavour, but I couldn't imagine the small portion of meat that would have been the average serving of meat in an order. Definitely recommend extra meat. Is it the best Thai I've ever had? No. Is it the worst Thai I've ever had? Far from it. Would I go there again? Likely -if- there was not another place I wanted to try. If you don't live in town and maybe already know about this place, it's unfortunately all too likely that you'll just walk right by it en route to some of the more flamboyant store fronts in downtown Hingham. This fairly non-descript building is home to a delightful Thai restaurant that once inside you'll see is a little jewel box of bright colors, interesting wall hangings, Buddhist statues, Thai photographs, friendly staff and very good food. There is something for everyone liking Thai food here from the omnivore to the vegetarian/vegan. I love options for everyone when dining out and when you don't eat meat, you can easily end up feeling like a second class citizens at some restaurants. But not here! With some of the vegetarian options, it's wise to ask if they use fish sauce if you're looking to avoid it. They'll happily omit it if you'd like as they did for my dish tonight with no loss of spice or flavor. For an appetizer we had Thai Sticks which were an assortment of vegetables, like sweet potatoes, broccoli, green beans and squash fried in a tempura-like batter. This came with a really good peanut sauce in which to dip. As a lover, in general of dipping food into one kind of sauce or another, this was good stuff. For the main dish, I ordered the Pik-King Tofu which is homemade tofu in chili ginger sauce with green and red peppers, string beans and pine nuts. It was delicious. Hub ordered the very spicy Fisherman's Fury which had squid, scallops and shrimp in a hot chili sauce with mixed vegetables. We were both clean plate club members. There is also a clever "mix and match" section on the menu where you can pair your tofu, fish, or meat with sauce and veggies of your choice. They serve beer and wine including the very good Singha Thai beer that we both had this evening. Muang Thai does a good take-out business as well but I recommend that you stop in, enjoy the soothing ambiance, the attentive service and the good food right there. No one will rush you and you'll leave relaxed, happily fed and at reasonable prices. read more

I ordered a beef meal. It was clearly cooked with fish. The gentleman at the restaurant said it was not. Within 10 min of eating a small amount of the beef, I vomited. I have an allergy to shellfish. I had been meaning to try Muang Thai for a while as it is a lot more convenient to get to from my current location than my favorite Thai place in Quincy. BF and I decided to check it out on a Friday night before a movie. The place is tiny but very cute inside. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive so no real problems there. My issue was, sadly, with the food. Maybe we didn't order the right things, but both of our dishes were just rather bland and boring. For me, the decision to get Thai vs Chinese is the expectation is that the flavor/spice etc will be elevated from your run of the mill Chinese slop house. BF got spicy Chicken Basil, which at most other Thai places is packed with flavor, and he was so bored with it he had to ask them to bring out some additional sauce. Maybe we were there on an off night or maybe we just have different ideas of what makes food delicious, but sadly I can't see myself returning to Muang Thai. read more

I called to place a pick up order and the guy who answered the phone could understand me so he hung up on me as I was talking. So I placed my takeout order online instead - I got a notification that my order has been received and will be ready by 8:00PM. I got there at 8:00 and they guy at the door asked for my name, went to the kitchen to check and came back and said they're still cooking it and it'll be another 15-20minutes; so I waited. After about 30minutes I asked him again about my food; he checked and came back and said SORRY WE NEVER GOT YOUR ORDER; WHAT DID YOU ORDER?!!! - I mean really?!! He couldn't tell me that 30minutes ago? - he didn't even apologize or waited for me to tell him what my actual order was.. He just walked away!!!! Never experience such a horrible service; this place is a joke!!! I'm all about supporting local businesses but this place is absolutely horrible. And the language barrier of him not understanding anything I'm saying didn't help - but I moved to this country 5years ago so I get it since english is my second language too... but if I were to ever open a business here I would at least have the common sense to put someone at the front who can communicate with the customers in the common language of that country!!! read more

Muang Thai is decent, but not my favorite Thai nearby (that honor goes to Wild Ginger). We have been here a few times, most recently before a movie at the Loring on a Friday night. The place wasn't very crowded so we thought we'd be in and out quickly. We thought wrong. They do a huge take-out business so don't let the empty tables fool you. Service was polite, but a bit slow. The pan fried dumplings had good flavor but they were a little scorched on the outside. If you cut off the blackened part, they weren't bad. I was boring and got Pad Thai but I get a pass because I'm pregnant and I was craving blandish carbs, as opposed to my usual desire for spice (thanks to killer heartburn). It was decent and what I expected. My husband had the soft shell crab special entree though, and he wasn't all that impressed. It was supposed to come in a spicy sauce but he said it lacked spice. It was served on a bed of lettuce with no other vegetables. An entire entree of just fried softshell crab in a not very spicy sauce, served over lettuce. It didn't even come with a side of rice. Had he realized that, he would have ordered one, but I gave him half of my Pad Thai instead so he was fine with that. Truth be told, I had a feeling he wasn't going to like his meal so I purposely ordered something safe that he could eat. The atmosphere and decor inside is fun though. I just paid 70 dollars last night on takeout and I was very disappointed with the food here. My Chicken and Shrimp Pad Thai didn't have any crushed peanuts or pea shoots or a cut lime. I paid 15 bucks and they can't finish it off with that. It also had a bad flavor like there was some cleaning solution residue left in the pan they cooked it in. gross. I was expecting an awesome Shrimp Choo Chee and it was terrible the sauce was sour and bad. it wasn't like the choo chee sauce I got at Siam Cuisine before they sold it. I don't go there any more either. What is up with these Thai food places they are all going down hill. I don't even think these people are Thai. hence the low quality and high price. I am a fan of Muang Thai and now live in Texas so everytime I come home to the South Shore, it's in my rotation of places I have to eat at while I'm home! I just can't seem to find the same caliber of Thai food in Texas. I visited this weekend and it seems they have revamped their menu to a larger scale, including the range of spicy curry they offer which they never used to do before. I love the original pad thai and wouldn't have it any other way. Curry, no thank you. We also branched out and got the Crispy Pad Thai which was very good. My go to favorites are the: Pad Thai, Chicken and Cashew Nuts, and Bistro Fried Rice. read more

Same thing as always - phoned in a delivery order, was told 30 minutes for delivery. After waiting for over an hour we tried to call in, and no answer. We keep trying. 15 minutes later we finally get someone on the phone - the food is still there - we're told it's been ready for 5-10 minutes, and hasn't even left the building yet. So we go to pick it up, and it takes the girl 5 minutes to figure out how to make change for $60. Then we finally get it home... food is at room temperature. Waste of time. read more

Green curry was good but not the best as I am in search for the best green curry. It was spicy enough at first but was not a memorable spice. I ordered a green tea are usually get Thai iced tea and I'm sure that would've been great but it was cold in the restaurant and I wanted something warm and they just gave me a cheap teabag when I go to an Asian restaurant I would expect delicious green tea leaves. So disappointed! I love Thai food and Muang Thai was far from good! They ran out of crab Rangoon so gave us spring rolls, which was fine. The spring rolls tasted terrible alone and a touch better with the dipping sauce, and a good restaurant would have spring rolls taste good both alone and with a bit of sauce. The basil fried rice looked like the rice was a burned so visually was off, the dish was so spicy I could barely eat it, but it was bland at the same time, does that make sense? I had the red curry chicken and it was very good! My husband got the beef in brown sauce and that was also disappointing, it tasted like it was almost a soup or noodle dish so on its own wasn't great, as a soup of noodle dish prob great. What a disappointment. We got takeout. Staff was very courteous, location is easy enough to get to. When I picked it up, the restaurant was empty, so they had the staff to dedicate to our order. Our spring rolls were overcooked (tasted like they had been under the heat lamp all day), my pad thai was flavorless. We also had an order of red curry which was a 3/5 on my red curry scale. Also, for the price, I was expecting better (they are priced like a middle of the road restaurant but offer low end food). They put me on hold which was okay I assumed they're maybe slammed - I was on hold for about 10minutes and I could just hear the guy on the side making small talk with people. Then another phone rang - he picked that up!! - so I hung up and called again and just said "sorry my phone got disconnect as I was on hold; can I place a delivery order please" ....HE HUNG UP ON ME!!! Muang Thai in Hingham, Massachuseets, is owned and managed by Suwanna, a wonderful cook and person. The food is delicious and service is always impeccable, while prices are very affordable. I have eaten there about 10 times, including recently (July 5, 2012), and every time have been very pleased. While this restaurant is tiny and not distinctive from the outside, it is definitely a bargain for the quality of the food and service. read more

I wanted to love this place cause it's right in my neighborhood. I stopped in after a movie to order some takeout. I had to use the restroom which had a sign "for customers only". I was a customer... I just had to use the restroom first. As I was walking into the restroom the waitress/maybe owner yelled at me. I told her I was ordering takeout and she yelled "ask next time". I'm sorry, as a patron I don't know that I've ever been told I need permission to use the facilities. I should have left right then. I decided to go ahead and order my takeout (after using the facilities). I ordered the vegetable pad Thai and vegetable spring rolls. I got home and when I opened the spring rolls there was a giant black hair on one of the rolls. I will not be back. read more
