My girlfriend and I were in town and went by to get some dinner before going out to New Buffalo and decided to swing by here because of how good the reviews were. We were sadly disappointed by this place unfortunately. I'm not one to write reviews often but this was so poor that i felt it was warranted. We each got a 3 taco plate and they mixed up the ingredients we each wanted. Also put cheese on things when we both specifically requested no cheese. But we are used to that happening so we scraped through but unfortunately the chicken tacos were cold, and with very little taste. Steak tacos, which cost more were actually inedible. The steak was rubbery and hard in some spots. I really hate writing these types of reviews but when your order is not only messed up but inedible. I don't know about you but I really want to be able to eat the food I order. So disappointing. read more

For locals, this seems to be the hipster hotspot. But if you're traveling, look elsewhere for a good meal. The most interesting thing to me here was the self serve salsa bar. Salsa and hot sauce galore to serve yourself all the dip you need for your chips. There's many options food wise, a few vegetarian options as well. Overall, the food is average. I wouldn't call it authentic or day-fresh but it was good to fill up on. I will admit I was slightly disappointed to see so much good reviews and then have my experience not meet those standards. There was even a little Farmer's Market in the parking lot next door as we stopped in for a late breakfast. Large portions with fresh ingredients, good flavor, reasonable prices. Scrambled eggs on my skillet were perfectly cooked. The Build-Your-Own-Breakfast-Burrito menu offers loads of possibilities. Good coffee, but they stop serving it after breakfast. Tortilla chips are awesome, so light and crispy I would buy a bag. Cinnamon sprinkled churros are filled with a bit of Bavarian cream - yummy treat. I used to go here at least once a month. The food was good and reasonably priced. I noticed the quality of the food going down gradually about a year ago. The meat started to get chewy as if it had been sitting around for hours after being prepared. The last straw was when I got violently ill from a burrito I ate there with questionable meat on it. I came here with my family on a Saturday evening. My mother rides a motorized scooter and the staff was quick to pull tables together to accommodate us. The space was very clean and the staff were very nice and inviting. We ordered tacos and nachos that were thoroughly enjoyed! Be forewarned- the half order of nachos are enough for two people! I finished all of my food in two days' time, lol. 5 stars for the food and service. They are high class people for sure. I'll definitely return when in the area! I was visiting an old friend and at her suggestion we went here for lunch. I could not believe I was in LaPorte In! A Southern Cali/Mexi Flavors with a salsa bar in Indiana. I know, my jaw dropped but when I asked he said "don't ask". A culinary trained chef brother + a business trained brother = Delicious. We started with the home made really fresh guacamole and super chips that were not greasy and so fresh. The salsa bar provided the hot sauce for me, the mild red for him, the verde for her and the pico for all. Next, D had the special taco and black bean soup. P had the small mucho nacho platter and I had the chicken wet burrito (they diced/sliced the black beans in the burrito so that each bite contained some of all of the flavors, a touch almost all others neglect). Only in Indiana do you find a wet burrito (covered in ranchero sauce, real sour cream and a healthy dose of their fabulous extra hot sauce. A delightful, unexpected burst of flavor. read more

I MUST be dreaming, because I can't be eating tofu tacos in La Porte. This can't possibly be happening for real. This place has great vegetarian/vegan options, making it my new favorite place to eat when visiting family in La Porte. The food is fresh and good, the restaurant is clean, and the staff friendly. It's really hard to find good authentic Mexican food in NW Indiana. There are a few places that do things mostly right (La Patrona, El Amigo) but Im' really not a huge fan of the big Mexican restaurants. I know this sounds a bit snobbish but most of Mexican food that appeals to people is a much more commercialized version that is mas dinero. What pulls people in are the drinks but the food is merely passable. That said, my understanding is the guys who opened Mucho Mas came from California and bring a certain Cal-Mex authenticity to the table. Here's the test for me... the carne asada is really good. I had a burrito with guacamole in it and it was excellent. The steak was marinaded well with the guacamole providing a bit of the creamy "citrus" taste (I'm surprised how many places don't know that a squeeze of lime is essential). So in terms of the burrito, it was very close to a great Cal-Mex burrito. The next test? See if they have carnitas... Now the chips and salsa are another thing. Sorry but I'm not really feeling the thick chips. My suspicion is they use flour tortillas rather than the typical corn tortillas to make their chips. Plus, both the red and green salsas are just ok but not great. I love the fact that they do serve craft beers along with the usual Mexican beers. The place is comfortable and the prices are reasonable. I'm not sure if I'm making the trip every week but it's nice to know there is a place that actually serves really good Cal-Mex food. Totally loved this place. Had a cool, hipster air about it. But beyond the atmosphere and the vibe, the food is out of this world. Crazy fresh and insanely flavorful. I got the vegetarian nachos and the chips are fresh and, dare I say, even light and flaky. They seem to have a lime salt or something on them so even when you got the rare chip with no cheese or beans on it, the chip alone was still amazing. Son got a steak burrito and it was just the way he liked it: no cheese. Crazy, right? But the rice that was in the burrito was awesome and made up for the fact that there was no ooey gooey cheese in it. Mind you, of course you can get cheese in your burrito at Mucho Mas!
