I popped in to Sam's Cats and Dogs Naturally today. It was my first time visiting this store. My…read moreexperience was a good one. When I first walked in to this store, the customer service guy was on the telephone, but he came and found me in the aisle that I was in within a few minutes, with a big friendly smile and an offer to help me find anything that I was looking for. I told him that I'd like to buy some treats and toys for my cat, and he directed me to the cat section, then told me to let him know if I needed any more help. Quite a bit of this lovely store is devoted to doggos, but there is a substantial section devoted to cats as well. I have the best cat, and I was happy with the treats and toys available for him at Sam's. I took a photo of everything that I ended up purchasing except for a last-minute find - a fake peacock feather for just 1 dollar and 49 cents! What an excellent value. The cat treats and toys were a good value as well, especially for the high quality of most of the ingredients in the treats. Imagine my surprise when reading the ingredient list for the Cat Lobster Treats when I found out that actual Lobster is one of the ingredients in the treats! Tuna was the first ingredient in the Lobster treats, and my cat, Benjamin Kitty, loves tuna. Hopefully he likes these treats, I haven't given him one yet. I was also happy to see that Sam's had the Salmon-flavored Greenies Dental Cat Treats. My cat likes these treats, and the ones that I have at home recently expired. I feed him treats that are helpful for him to pass furballs, and I also feed him the Greenies treats that help with his dental health. Then there are the treats that I feed him just because he loves them. I used to play with my rescue cat every day or almost every day for the first couple of years that I had him, but I haven't been doing play time with him quite that often lately. I've gotten into watching some of Jackson Galaxy's Cat Videos on YouTube recently, and I am reading one of his books right now as well. He says, "Play with Your Cat, Play with your Cat, Play with Your Cat." My cat is extremely athletic, so he really does need frequent play time. When I got home today, I tried out the peacock feather cat toy with Benjamin Kitty for our interactive play time. He really went after this toy, as you can see in the photo. I think it is good for him to have a play time right before I feed him, which I did today and which I will be doing almost every day moving forward, since cats are natural hunters and they are biologically wired to exercise their hunting instincts prior to eating. Cats also tend to naturally hunt close to dusk, so I am going to try to time his play times for around that time moving forward, if possible. The gentleman who helped me at Sam's was understandably a bit frustrated because the computer system there was down today, so he actually had to write down every purchase of mine by hand! I felt badly for him! What an annoying thing to have happen. However, he was also fairly good-natured about this as well, and I was very happy overall with his customer service. The store also smelled really nice when I walked into it, which surprised me. It was a very faint citrus smell. This store does sell a collection of air purification items for pet homes, including sprays, candles, and hanging air fresheners, so perhaps one or more of these products is being used in the store. I don't think I've ever been so pleasantly surprised by the smell of a pet store before... usually they smell like cat and dog food, not an unpleasant smell but not necessarily a super lovely one for humans either. I would definitely return to this store again to buy my cat a few more toys. I really don't think that he can ever have too many new toys (well, within reason, of course), and he tends to be more interested in newer toys, overall. It's so important for my cat's physical and emotional health to prioritize interactive play time with him, and to occasionally buy him new and interesting toys to switch it up. I was happy with my experience at Sam's today, and I am especially happy that Benjamin Kitty liked one of his new Sam's toys so much!

It's not easy for me to let someone into my home- particularly when I'm not around. Lauren is the most reliable, trust worthy dog walker I've ever had. She cares for my dogs (and my home) like they were her own. With my crazy work schedule I can rely on Lauren to be there to help us. One of my dogs had been quite ill and Lauren was there for us through it all- even taking my pup to the vet when my schedule didn't allow me the flexibility to get to the vet on short notice. She has ALWAYS been available to pet sit, responds very quickly to texts and emails, and has been very attentive to our pets. On a recent, much longer trip out of the country, one of our cats escaped THE NIGHT BEFORE OUR 4 AM INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT. I told Melissa not to worry about trying to find him, but she went above and beyond, canvassing the neighbors, offering to make and post signs, leaving food and water out, searching for this darn escaped cat. She was very concerned and kept in touch with me via email the whole time. The cat DID come back (after we returned, and he was fine), but the point is, Melissa came through in a tough situation. I trust her and would (and have) recommended her!

I set out all my plants that needed water on the main kitchen counter, along with a bottle to water them. I have smart devices and a few strategically placed indoor cameras (about which I made him aware), and when I was notified that the water level on the fountain was low I messaged him and asked him to refill it. He refilled it, but put it back on the stand and didn't even check to see if it was working. It wasn't. I was in a different country with a significant time change, so when I next checked my device notifications and camera I discovered my cat had no source of water. I contacted him immediately to make him aware of the issue, but as his visits were typically later in the day I reached out to a neighbor and asked them to go over and provide a bowl of water for my cat in the meantime. Thankfully she did, and she indicated my cat was very thirsty. Despite providing directions about the fountains and some additional prompting, Ray was unable to figure out how to work the fountain. I asked him to ensure that he left out a bowl of water for the cat, which he did. I have no idea if he actually saw the cat, or if he had any level of interaction with her on his visits. I didn't specifically ask him for this info or pictures prior to using him, but as all other cat sitters I had previously used did so without prompting, I (mistakenly) expected this. He also failed to water my plants and two of them died. This was minimal compared to leaving my cat without water, and not knowing whether or not he even saw her (other than one time he mentioned she came out to see him on one of his visits).

However, it was due to Ray not physically getting his eyeballs on the cats every single day. Cats aren't house plants. You have to make sure they're not up to something. You don't just feed and water and leave. Especially when the cat mom leaves SEVEN PAGES of instructions on how they needed to be separated while they ate so that one could take his pill and if he didn't then you could use the pill popper provided to put it down his throat. But that's not what happened. I guess my notes were taken as suggestions. On the last day when the vet thinks he passed, I received a text from him saying: "Dear (me), Another uneventful visit. Your children are going to be so happy that you're back home. Left your FOB on the kitchen counter. - Ray." Nowhere in that text does it say I couldn't find them so I just left. I don't really know what else I can do at this point other than warn other pet owners. Yes, I know he didn't mean to have this happen but it did. And I think when it comes to your pets life so you shouldn't take any risks. This shouldn't have to happen to any other pet owner out there. I'm notifying all the organizations that he lists on his website too. He did refund fully and returned my key. He was also an incredibly nice person. That aside, nothing will bring my cat back but I pray this doesn't happen with anyone else.

And what was especially nice when I visited this location, my best friend/fur baby was with me! My dog was absolutely spoiled here, which is why I love this place. Anywhere that caters to dogs makes me an instant fan, but The Seattle Barkery has high-quality, healthy treats for the fur babies, in addition to some swag and accessories that they sell in the store. Plus, they also customize cakes, which you can order and pick up from here. My dog was given lots of treats by the super friendly staff here. The staff even let us try the treats before making a purchase after she learned that my dog can be picky about some treats, which was super nice and allowed me to not waste my money on something she wouldn't eat. I was able to take home a lot of treats for her, including new treats my dog has never had before but ended up loving!
