The lovely sales person (I can't remember her name) gave us so many options and sampled a ton of stuff out for us so we could take it home for free to try. Great store, excellent staff. I don't know where to start. Trying to switch my picky cat to wet food, I was given free cans to try out. Found out the wetter the food, the more he likes it. Bought a cat tower, found out he didn't really like it. I was told to return it, no problem. So great informative staff, nice store and good prices. (Review for dog owners) I am always going to pet stores around the Portland area to try to find the best one; what can I say I love my pooch! Even though this Mud Bay location is fairly new I found them because they are open later than most pet stores in Portland; which is exactly what I was looking for. I hate how early pet stores close and Mud Bay got major brownie points for their hours. Let me tell you all the reasons why this is the best store ever: 1) Besides the hours, another bonus (especially in a city) is they have off street parking next to their building. 2) The store is very organized and super clean. 2) They have tons of AMAZING dog treats. All super healthy, high quality options, that take the guesswork out of whether or not its good for your pet or not. They also have what I want to call a "biscuit bar" that has in bulk, custom baked treats specifically for Mud Bay; which too has human grade ingredients in them. 3) They have a high selection of dog foods that are also extremely healthy with any specific diet you would want. For example grain free, raw, weight management. 4) They have 4 large refrigerators with raw bones, treats, and dog food. 5) Good selection of toys. They have some of the interactive toys that you can put treats into (love!). 6) A nice selection of dental care items. I finally found a place that had single packaged zukes bones for a dog under 10lbs. 7) Basically a one stop shop for all your doggie necessities! Leashes, coat care, crates, jackets, potty pads! 8) I was greeted immediately by Shannon when I walked in and felt welcomed to ask all the questions I wanted. Wonderful store with extremely helpful staff and a great selection of curated products. I went in to buy some toys for my cat, and ended up peppering staff with a host of questions keeping a healthy cat in an apartment. They are knowledgeable and helpful, and even sent me home with some cat food samples to see which new kibble my cat preferred. I'll be back--Mud Bay is officially my local pet store. read more

Emily greeted us with a welcoming smiles even though we walked in 10 minutes before closing. We were in search of Made in the USA dog toys. They had several options which included Made in Portland, Made in Seattle and Made in Montana. We found the perfect toy. We also received a "congratulations on your new puppy" samples. there are some very good pet stores in NW, such as Hip Hound and Nature's Pet, which my wife and I both frequented, but what set Mud Bay apart was their customer service. Not to say the others were lacking (they are very good), but needing to change up our cat's diet due to heath issues, the good people at Mud Bay provided brochures helping us understand his condition and gave up many samples of different foods for him to try. They even took back a container of raw food he did not like and gave us a credit for it even though they could no resell it (it was donated to a shelter). The employees are very friendly and very knowledgeable and their selection for cats is very broad. A very good addition to NW and the Pearl for pets. read more

I've been in three times now and I'm sold - Mud Bay has a super friendly staff, they're close to my work, and they offer good prices on the Rad Cat raw food I buy (almost $2 cheaper a pop than New Seasons). They even honored a coupon I had had and then lost - very cool. read more

My pup & I both love this store! It is conveniently located with a parking lot even though we usually walk. First & foremost, the service is phenomenal...the people who work there are always so friendly & helpful & they always give Milo lots of TLC which he just eats up. They give out free samples of treats which I usually end up buying on the spot. In addition to great service, they have a great selection, longer hours than most, competitive pricing, & a generous return policy. There are other boutiquey pet stores that are closer to me, but nothing compares to the service that Milo & I get at Mud Bay Glisan! read more

I came in to Mud Bay because my dog was not eating his food for 2 days and knew I needed to change it. Shannon was very helpful and gave be 3 different samples of wet food and 3 different samples of dry food and instructions on how to go about transitioning my dog to new food. They are very knowledgeable here. Definitely will be going back here for my dog's food. My dog has eaten everyday now with no digestion issues. They also have multiple brochures on issues with dogs. I was surprised to see just how knowledgeable the staff were about the various food products they carry. They were able to tell me the consistency, texture, benefits of each one! It was very helpful, as my pet is extremely picky and has digestive issues. The store is big enough to have everything you want, but small enough to have employees who take the time to care. I went into Mud Bay for the first time this afternoon, just to check their prices on the dog food that I typically get for my pup. The woman working (I wish I had gotten her name!) immediately came up to me and asked if I needed help. A simple question about the size of bag I could buy turned into a detailed, engaging, and incredibly informative conversation about the food options I have for my dog. I've been stumped for a while about switching his dog food from a puppy formula to a canine formula, since he is only 6 lbs with mouth issues and can't handle the large size of kibble very easily. She suggested multiple new options that I could try out as to make his time chewing easier. On top of that, I was given good sized samples to take home to him to try and make sure that they would work.
