I love this place. They have savory scones and delicious cupcakes. I love that they cook with herbs and spices! The scones have flavor and are so good slightly warmed up. So, lets say you aren't vegan (Like me) but you're craving tasty sweets, friendly customer service, and a cool chill atmosphere where you can hang with friends or the kiddos, this is that place! I first discovered the other Mud Pie location about 1.5 years ago, when I attempted to be vegan (lasted 4 months, I'm quite proud, thank you very much), and the food was good. I was meeting a friend and realized they had an OP location so we went. I ordered roobios tea and a strawberry cupcake. This cupcake was so moist and so good. Honestly, would not have been able to tell it was vegan. Typically, I only eat chocolate vegan desserts because they always taste better, but this strawberry cupcake wins. Highly recommend and one of the employees teaches knitting classes so chat her up about it! read more

My gluten-free chocolate cupcake was delicious! You would never know their baked goods are vegan / gluten free. It was still very moist and flavorful. However, my friend and I both were unable to finish our lattes. I hate saying this because it seems everyone else I know loves this place but I found my drink inedible. After just a few sips we both threw our drinks out. I can't put my finger quite on it to say what tasted so funny but it almost tasted as if there was a wrong ingredient thrown into the drink. Very good bakery despite being vegan My husband and I stopped by for coffee/tea and pastry. We shared a very good lemon blueberry muffin, and a tiny pumpkin bundt cake. My husband had black coffee. I wanted tea, and had a selection of about 6 flavors. I chose Irish Breakfast. I thought it was a little odd that the server offered me soy milk, but it tasted fine. I was afraid it would be too sweet. I normally drink cow's milk in my tea. Later we looked harder at the menu and learned that the restaurant is vegan. I believe vegan means no meat, eggs or dairy products. I was very pleasantly surprised how good the pastry tasted, even without dairy. The cafe has some night artwork on the walls. read more

We are regulars of the 39th St location but this one is closer to us and our favorite barista moved to the new location. I was worried the ambiance would be lacking at this location but I was wrong. It certainly isn't the old house feel but they did a great job of keeping it clean and crisp but still welcoming and inviting. Clearly it is the people! The kitchen is huge and this location will offer more items. I am excited about that. They have everything from cookies to cupcakes to scones to kolaches and empanadas. Any drink your heart desires can be made as long as it is vegan. Nothing was lacking. My drink (a Dirty South) was just as great as it is on 39th). They have a bucket of crayons, coloring books and books to entertain the kids. They have a great station to dress your coffee; honey substitute, sweeteners, etc. Ample seating at tables and along the windows as well as outside in the back. Plenty of merchandise to buy as well such as shirts, Oddly Correct coffee and their own coffee, Nano. As well as their Dirty South coffee to take and make at home. The ambiance is quieter (now - they've been open fewer than 60 hours as of my writing) than the downtown location, but the service is still knowledgeable and kind. The bakery staples are magnificent, whether savory or sweet (try a peanut butter Rice Krispie with your chai), and you'll find your favorite Mud Pie merch in the corner. There are tables outside the back door and plenty of parking. If you've been waiting to try something new from a bakery case, make it Mud Pie's. This place is hit or miss. Sometimes the pastries were good, other times they were stale. I visited about 6 or 7 times in 2022. The manager was always rude. I assume that Black customers are not welcome which is unfortunate because being vegan in Overland Park there are very few options. Maybe some day I will go back but lately have just been staying home or driving 30 miles to KC if I want vegan take out. read more

Finding any location with a decent breakfast selection for vegans is not always easy. Luckily, I stumbled upon this gem on my visit to the MO/KS area! My mom and I came in this morning for coffee and I was so delighted at all of the vegan pastries! And they didn't taste like cardboard! Unfortunately we were so excited to taste everything, we didn't get photos. But we tried (and LOVED) the chocolate chip scone, mozzarella & sausage scone, lemon blueberry muffin, cinnamon bun, and 2 vanilla lattes. The coffee was good & the pastries were fantastic! The cinnamon bun was so tasty and perfect with my coffee. I will definitely be returning in the morning to try more! read more

So glad I stumbled across this quaint vegan bakery. They had so many options, including this wonderful $5 latte and baked good special! I decided to try their blueberry and lemon crumble and it did not disappoint! It was so flavorful and flaky. It had wonderful bits of fresh blueberries which I just love. WOW! Their German chocolate cupcake and Oreo bundt cake are AMAZING. I was nervous to buy the bundt cake as sometimes bundt cakes can be dry, but this one was moist and fluffy and delicious! The frosting on the German chocolate cupcake was outstanding! The cake itself was bouncy, moist, and chocolately. I am not a vegan, and have never had vegan pastries, but these could convert me! They were much better than many traditional non vegan cupcakes and bundt cakes that I have had! 12/10 would recommmend. Update 5/10/2019 I went here for the third time today, and the cupcake and cookie were excellent. If you want quality baked goods to bring to your home, I would recommend this place! However, if you want to buy and pastry and sit and do work or chat with a friend, I would not recommend this place. I sat down on their bench and my pants promptly caught on a nail and nearly ripped. The staff apologized and covered the nails with tape and a note. However, at about 5:40 two staff members began loudly discussing how they have things to do later that night. One woman told a story about a time customers stayed until 6:10 pm and, "I didn't get out of here until 7:30." They continued along this line until I left about 5 minutes later. I felt embarrassed, as if somehow I was inconveniencing them by finishing my tea and pastry 20 minutes before close. As I was the only person in the store, it was clear that this information was targeted at me. Can't say I'm eager to repeat the experience. read more

39th Street's Kansas cousin, Mud Pie is a quality coffee shop near the intersection of 95th and Metcalf in Overland Park. Drip coffee was on par with other black drips around the metro. Lots of smoothie orders in front of me and looked like a good option for those so inclined. On this particular day I was sent on a mission to find a good vanilla latte. Forgetting that they are a non-dairy establishment, I opted against a vanilla soy latter and got a soy chai tea latte instead. It also ranked well in comparison to other coffee shops as well. The food selection on the day I visited was pretty sparse. The folks in front of me really wanted some gluten-free food options and unfortunately the cupboard was bare. The treats that were in the case, however, looked great but not for their taste (or allergy needs). I'll make a trip back soon when I'm close. Though it doesn't matter to me, the non-dairy option could be a real differentiator for some. read more

WOW. This place is SO good!!! I was driving with a friend and we saw the words 'Vegan Bakery' and turned around to go immediately. We both ordered cheddar, sausage scones (VEGAN!) and coffee drinks. Everything was perfect. Our barista offered suggestions and led me to get a different drink than I normally would at a coffee shop and I was so pleasantly surprised!! I'm lactose intolerant and it's so hard for me to find good pastries I can eat - until I found Mud Pie Bakery! They have so many options, everything from cookies and brownies to muffins and miniature bundt cakes. Recently, I got the pumpkin chocolate chip muffin and thought it was delicious! It was rich and moist and, honestly, didn't taste vegan. I also got a pumpkin spice latte (it's been years since I had one!) and it was great and not-too-sweet. Food is delicious however the service needs improvement. Ordered the night before for pick up at 8:15. Called around 8:10 to confirm our order was ready and were told yes the items were getting heated up. Went to grab our pick up orders and our drinks were not done. Priority was taken to get all the other orders done first for those in line and our take out order that was supposed to be done at 8:15. We didn't get our drinks made until 9. I understand there were only two workers who were doing their best however there needs to be efficiency in ensuring take out orders are fulfilled at the time that their message say it'll be completed. read more

The 39th street Mud Pie snatched my heart right out of my chest right off the bat, but seeing as how that's not the neck of the woods that I live in, I absolutely lost my mind when they opened one up in Overland Park. THIS. IS. MY. FAVORITE. LOCAL. COFFEE. SHOP. HANDS DOWN. I have never had a sip or a bite that was nything other than delicious at the ol' Mud Pie. I could live off of their Dirty South for the rest of my days. Cute and comfy atmosphere, friendly faces, always great tunes (tunes and coffee go hand in hand, if you didn't already know ;) This is the place I tell all of my friends to go, the place I braggadociously share with out-of-town company, the first place I think of when that urge for caffeine hits me in the fact like a block of cement. Grabbed an Americano and a chocolate donut with sprinkles. The Americano was okay. For some reason I just really like Starbucks' americanos. Don't hate me. They always seem to get the crema right. Mud Pie's Americano had no crema. And it wasn't as dark as they normally are. Overall, 3 stars for the americano. The donut was absolutely incredible. I can't get over the texture of the thing. It was perfect. Dense. Not fluffy, but dense and delicious. Yet it still crumbled in your mouth. It was $1.75 and worth every penny. I just wanted to sit there and let it dissolve in my mouth. Oh man, the donut was good. The service was great. Everything I could ever ask for in a coffee shop. Lots of smiles and general cheerfulness. 3 Stars for coffee 5 stars for donut 5 stars for service. I love this place and am thrilled that they have opened a second location in Suburbia! I used to frequent the Westport location on my way to work and now, having switched jobs, I am happy that they're on my way again! First off - they always have solid coffee and espresso drinks. I'm not that fancy so I just order my drip coffee, black. Today, I ordered their jalapeno cream cheese kolache! The bread was soft, a little chewy, the cream cheese smooth and the vegan sausge added great flavor. I really love what they've done with the interior. While it's in the same strip mall as First Watch, it still has an urban feel to it. The staff are still working out a few opening day kinks (such as having to manually enter your CC/Debit number) but they are so polite. Plenty of sweet and savory options that will please everyone! As a newer vegan I was so excited to try this place out and was not disappointed! Great atmosphere, amazing coffee (highly recommend the dirty south) and a fantastic blueberry lemon muffin to go with it. So nice to be able to eat at a place and not worry about if it's touched meat or has dairy hidden in it. I was able to relax and do some studying. The two ladies working seemed to really enjoy their job and were happy to answer any questions I had. I ordered the Fall Pumpkin Macchiato, Mocha, gf cranberry orange scone and a cinnamon roll for pickup. When I arrived at the pick up time my drinks were not made which was no big deal and they said they would get right to it. 10 minutes passed and the same person who initially spoke to me asked me if I needed to order. I told her again that I was still waiting for the coffees which took 5 more minutes to make. When I got home my friend and I tried our respective drinks and they both were terrible. It is quite literally the worst coffee drinks I have ever paid for. I'm disappointed in the customer service and drinks. I hope they were just training someone new and will figure it out. I did call and let them know and they offered me a free drink on my next visit which I declined as I will not be going back. The pastries were decent but nothing outstanding. read more

What a little gem we found! My family and I were visiting from out of town and love going to local coffee houses. We were even more intrigued at the selection of gluten free baked goods! I got a latte with cashew milk that I learned they make in house, it was Devine! My sister got he cold brew which she was said was excellent as well. We decided to try the gluten free blueberry crumble bar. Out of this world delish! We definitely would visit again. As a vegan, sometimes it can be difficult to find savory bakery items. However, I came across Mud Pie Bakery and Coffee and was delighted! Right when I walked in the door, I was overwhelmed immensely by the wonderful aromas and friendly staff. I had told one of the workers behind the counter that this was my first time coming in and with no further ado, she gave me recommendations! I took her recommendation of the Pumpkin Cream Cheese Swirl Muffin along with a Double Chocolate Doughnut with Sprinkles! When I got home and took a bite of the Pumpkin Cream Cheese Swirl Muffin, my tastebuds were dancing with pleasure at how velvety the muffin was. Irresistible!
