    Chocolate Raspberry Cupcake

TL;DR: This cafe is super cute and it's worth stopping by for a cupcake and a coffee if you're allergic to gluten and dairy or you're vegan. If you're neither of those things and wondering if it's worth a visit, I'd say you're better off sticking with options like French Market in Brookside. For food options, check out Cafe Gratitude, Whole Harvest Kitchen, or naturally vegan options like Blue Nile Cafe. The cupcakes here are generally high quality and have a great crumb to them, BUT I would recommend getting one cupcake of any given flavor first and making sure you like it before buying up a dozen or ordering a cake. The cupcakes here can be hit or miss, with some having a mushier texture or muddier flavor to them. Apart from the consistency issue, the only reason I wouldn't recommend The Littlest Bake Shop's pastries is because of the frosting. The frosting here is on the stiff, sugary side, which makes for pretty cupcakes but less than ideal mouthfeel. If you prefer frosting on the lighter side, this place likely isn't for you. I was a little bit more disappointed by the food. I ordered the Grilled Cheeze and the Littlest Big Brunch, and while everything was okay, nothing stood out. The greens on the side of the Grilled Cheeze were just spring mix without any kind of dressing, and the gravy was a weird gummy texture. Both dishes were way overpriced compared to the portion size, and the salt and pepper potatoes were the best part of each. Overall, I wanted to love this place much more than I actually did and would come back for a cupcake but not for the food.

We stopped in here on a Sunday afternoon. I got a vanilla oat milk latte (yum) and "The Midwest" biscuits and gravy which comes served with potatoes and I opted for a side of the vegan sausage patty. My wife got "The Littlest Big Brunch" which consists of a tofu scramble, biscuit or toast, potatoes and a sausage patty. Everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING) was absolutely delicious. The food is made from scratch so it does take a little while to come out, but it's well worth the wait. Staff were friendly and attentive and kept our waters full. As a gluten glutton, I can't believe how flavorful all the GF options are. I love that everything here is vegan and gluten free. I will definitely dine here again!

GF/DF biscuits and gravy! Yes please! The gravy had a unique tang but the biscuits were very good. So hard to find GF AND DF options. Service was quick and you order at the window.

This restaurant is one of my favorite places to go and eat. Super cute atmosphere Not only do they have wonderful drink and food options but they make the cutest cakes, cupcakes, and more! Gluten free and vegan, you can also have them exclude soy! Iris, the owner and chef, is there every time I go, and she is working just as hard as everyone else there to make your experience wonderful. She's also very helpful in answering questions that you may have About the menu or otherwise. I have been there multiple times and have never had anything that I didn't love. They also make everything fresh when you order and almost everything is customizable. Sometimes they have special menu items. I recommend going on days when they have pizza! It's amazing and the crust is out of this world! The chicken bbq is what I last had and the bbq sauce had this wonderful sweet and tangy flavor. Stop in and say hello to Iris and the team! You won't be disappointed!

I had an amazing experience at the littlest bake shop. We went there on a trip to visit my great aunt and all the food we got there was amazing. We had a swift wait in a small line and our order was taken quickly. We had a great chat with the person who took our order. We sat outside behind the restaurant and the trees and birds made it all have a very cozy feel. If your in kansas city, COME HERE!!!

I can't believe it took me so long to try this place!! Granted I live in Lenexa so it's not the closest to me but so worth the drive! To start of this place is adorable! Such cute decor and a fantastic vibe. The staff was incredibly friendly and I chatted with one of them while my food and drink was prepared. I got a matcha latte with oat milk and vanilla syrup. SO GOOD! I can appreciate a good matcha latte I'm definitely no connoisseur for them but this was the best one I've had so far! Incredibly creamy and just the right amount of sweetness. Oat milk really does wonders in the creamy department. For my entree I got a vegan combo I believe? It has biscuits and mushroom gravy, "bacon", Tofu scramble and potatoes. It was delectable. Some of the best vegan bacon I've had and I've tried a LOT as I do not eat meat. Some vegan bacons are just downright gross but I'd would absolutely order this one again which says a lot!! Coconut bacon can taste burnt a lot of the time so I appreciate that this was a more "meaty" version. The biscuits and mushroom gravy was heavenly. Vegan biscuits and gravy is a hard dish I've tried to perfect myself and they expertly executed it. Not too salty (a common theme with vegan gravy) and the biscuit was perfectly baked. All I can say is I'm obsessed with the adorable little shop now and will be back soon!

Yum! Warm, cheerful, and full of vegan and gluten free goodness. Cozy eating space with lots of brunch options.

Great little walk up bakery with some seating on the sidewalk out front. They specialize in vegan and GF baking. We tried the vegan pancake cupcake and it was very good! I would Bebe never known it was vegan had they not told me. Delicious. The woman who helped us is very friendly and it is located in a little strip of store fronts between Troost and Waldo. Definitely go check out this little gem!

Oh my god. The food here is amazing. We had the grilled cheeze, the midwest (biscuits and gravy) and also picked up a churro cake for my husbands birthday. All the food was AMAZING!! I could eat here for every meal for the rest of my life. Can't wait to come back!

A true hidden gem in DM. Since i was a child their champagne cake has been a staple. 40+ years later i still grab some and bring it home. My 54th birthday cake was champagne. Creme horn for breakfast -no picture available. My father in law loves their bear claws. Not many places have good creme horns or bear claws ENJOY!!!!!!

    Gf vegan Biscuits and Gravy

I can't even begin to rave enough about the quality and taste of the food here. It's a very small Place but they have additional patio seating outside in the back. Second time getting cupcakes and first time eating brunch. Between my hubby and I we have multiple dietary restrictions and this place sure has options! First, the cupcakes are always fantastic. Every. Single. Flavor. They sweeten them with beet sugar, so no refined sugars! The entire place is Gluten Free, so no risk of cross contamination, which is always good. The cupcakes are dense but moist and not overly sweet. The frosting on them really is the star of the show. Fantastic flavor and perfect level of sweetness. I dream about these cupcakes. this time the vanilla blackberry was my fave. I chatted with some of the employees about sourcing of ingredients and they are so thoughtful about this aspect of their business. Also, their coffee is phenomenal. I have to get decaf and they work with a local roaster that does NOT use a chemical decaffeination process, which is super important for me and so the flavor of the coffee is out of this world good. If I lived closer, you bet I'd be getting coffee here VERY often. They also make all of their coffee syrups/flavors in-house. You won't be disappointed by the quality, flavor or service of this place. Definitely give it a try if you haven't. It's worth every penny.

Julian, the Director, is a fan of this place and he'd sometimes order an array of cakes for the staff to enjoy, they always went fast, and it was my first foray into European style cakes like what Andre's serves up. Flash forward more than a decade and I've been here a few times, sometimes to get chocolates for a friend, other times (like last night) for a meal. I didn't realize that Andre's does special events like their fondue nights. I have a feeling these are annual so you might have to wait until 2027 to snag a seat at the table, but their fondue meal was so much fun and comes with some history from their staff. Fun thing I learned was that they sell their fondue year round in the shop so if you ever want to do a unique date night at home just pop into Andres and purchase some to-go. It would be such a fun way to spend a Saturday at home. Finally, I'm going to add that for me what takes Andre's to the next level and makes it a must visit spot in KC is the history. It's been in the same family for generations, the recipes are authentic, and the owners are really kind people. It's the kind of business you can feel good about supporting and I'll be back!

The space is gorgeous, with an old world, French romantic feel. Tailleur describes itself as French in spirit and that pretty much nails the vibe. And then I stopped pretending to be delicate. Pesto rigatoni with a huge fillet of salmon on top was choice. Fat Kid Activated! The pasta was fantastic, and that salmon took it from good to extravagant? Their current menu confirms both pesto pasta and Faroe Islands salmon are part of the rotation. It's as if you've stepped out of KC and into an another country in an elegant and comfortable restaurant for the high tea dining experience. The tables were beautifully set and the music and lighting were conducive to talking and having an elevated high tea dining experience. The beverage options included and listed a variety of teas as well as coffee, and select cocktails for an additional charge. If all of that didn't excite you, the high tea food tower definitely will! I feel like most high teas have a ho hum selection of foods that you find just about anywhere and could be picked up at a local grocery or box store and are usually dry, hard, and even flavorless. Tailleur's tower had a delicious variety of tea sandwich and treats, all of which were made in house, and were flavorful with surprising complexity and very fresh. The service was impeccable from the moment we entered and were greeted until the moment we exited. For us, the parking lot and restaurant were a little difficult to find but definitely worth the effort. In fact, we were running late because of that and the host called to inquire and offered us help in getting to the location---thank God! He also reminded us to bring in our license plate number, as they pay for your parking, in the lot behind their building! They were prepping food for the evening meal service and it smelled amazing! My anniversary is next month and I definitely want to go back for dinner! I highly recommend Tailleur's Signature Tea and definitely go again myself!!!

Despite arriving five minutes early for a 3 p.m. reservation, the hostess treated us dismissively, as if she forgot we were there because it was happy hour. She seated us at a cramped table for two, even though we were a party of three, and then hovered around us throughout the evening, clearly out of place. Once we were finally seated, the service was abysmal, 20 minutes just to get drinks, another 15 to even place our order, and then over an hour and forty mins total waiting for food. During this entire time, we saw other tables seated after us being served promptly. Then, to make matters worse, the server intentionally dropped our straws on the floor and did nothing about it, and when we finally asked for a manager, she made empty promises but disappeared. After an hour and 40 minutes, we still had no food. Our simple salad order meant to come out first was delayed, and even the dressing substitution felt like an act of bias, as I was given ranch instead of the of the vinaigrette it came with. This was no accident. This was a calculated, discriminatory pattern. As prominent Black women in the community, we should not have to endure this. To step through its threshold is to surrender to the siren song of warmth that curls from the oven like a whispered secret. I have made it my pilgrimage to traverse the entirety of their menu, a culinary odyssey that has yielded no false steps, only a symphony of consistency that borders on the miraculous. Each offering, from the flaky, golden architecture of their pastries to the robust, honest comfort of their savory fare, is a testament to the artisan's hand. Here, affordability is not a sacrifice of quality but a generous invitation, a rare confluence where the exquisite meets the accessible. There is a certain magic in the air at McLain's, a sweetness that feels woven into the very fabric of the establishment. It is a place that understands the language of comfort, speaking it fluently in the dialect of a perfect crust or the rich, dark notes of a expertly pulled espresso. It is perhaps no surprise that such a bastion of authentic delight has garnered a reputation that extends far beyond our local borders; if the standard of excellence is high enough to grace the plate of Taylor Swift, then surely, it is more than enough for us, the grateful residents who claim this treasure as our own. Yet, beyond the flour-dusted counters and the glowing glass cases, my deepest admiration is reserved for their spirit. In a world that often measures worth in cold, transactional metrics, McLain's chooses to honor those who pour themselves into the future of our community. As a teacher, I feel that recognition in the small gestures, the welcoming nods, and the genuine appreciation they extend to educators. It is a profound kindness, a recognition that the work of shaping minds requires nourishment, both intellectual and literal. They understand that a classroom is a marathon, and they act as the essential pit stop, providing the fuel that keeps the light of inquiry burning bright. To dine at McLain's is to participate in a ritual of belonging. It is a place where the passage of time is marked not by the ticking of a clock, but by the turning of the oven trays. It is a reliable heartbeat in the neighborhood, steadfast and true, offering a reprieve from the clamor of the outside world. Whether one seeks a quiet moment of reflection over a cup of coffee or a celebratory feast that honors the simple, profound joy of eating well, McLain's remains an unrivaled steward of taste. It is not merely a bakery; it is the living, breathing soul of Waldo, a place where every bite serves as a reminder that some things in this life are exactly as good as they ought to be.

We also ordered one of their pre-set pastry bundles for pick up and honestly everything was wonderful. I think I placed the order about a week out and it was ready when I came to pick it up. What pushed this experience into five star category for me? Just the friendliness of the staff, the serving tools they send you home with, and how thoughtful everyone was. The food was also really just exactly what we needed and it was so good there were hardly any leftovers, I think the kids cleared us out by lunch! At any rate, if you're on the hunt for a great spot to support for your next brunch event consider McLains - they won't let you down!
