    The Midwest biscuits and gravy
    Brenna P.

We stopped in here on a Sunday afternoon. I got a vanilla oat milk latte (yum) and "The Midwest" biscuits and gravy which comes served with potatoes and I opted for a side of the vegan sausage patty. My wife got "The Littlest Big Brunch" which consists of a tofu scramble, biscuit or toast, potatoes and a sausage patty. Everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING) was absolutely delicious. The food is made from scratch so it does take a little while to come out, but it's well worth the wait. Staff were friendly and attentive and kept our waters full. As a gluten glutton, I can't believe how flavorful all the GF options are. I love that everything here is vegan and gluten free. I will definitely dine here again!

GF/DF biscuits and gravy! Yes please! The gravy had a unique tang but the biscuits were very good. So hard to find GF AND DF options. Service was quick and you order at the window.

This restaurant is one of my favorite places to go and eat. Super cute atmosphere Not only do they have wonderful drink and food options but they make the cutest cakes, cupcakes, and more! Gluten free and vegan, you can also have them exclude soy! Iris, the owner and chef, is there every time I go, and she is working just as hard as everyone else there to make your experience wonderful. She's also very helpful in answering questions that you may have About the menu or otherwise. I have been there multiple times and have never had anything that I didn't love. They also make everything fresh when you order and almost everything is customizable. Sometimes they have special menu items. I recommend going on days when they have pizza! It's amazing and the crust is out of this world! The chicken bbq is what I last had and the bbq sauce had this wonderful sweet and tangy flavor. Stop in and say hello to Iris and the team! You won't be disappointed!

I had an amazing experience at the littlest bake shop. We went there on a trip to visit my great aunt and all the food we got there was amazing. We had a swift wait in a small line and our order was taken quickly. We had a great chat with the person who took our order. We sat outside behind the restaurant and the trees and birds made it all have a very cozy feel. If your in kansas city, COME HERE!!!

I can't believe it took me so long to try this place!! Granted I live in Lenexa so it's not the closest to me but so worth the drive! To start of this place is adorable! Such cute decor and a fantastic vibe. The staff was incredibly friendly and I chatted with one of them while my food and drink was prepared. I got a matcha latte with oat milk and vanilla syrup. SO GOOD! I can appreciate a good matcha latte I'm definitely no connoisseur for them but this was the best one I've had so far! Incredibly creamy and just the right amount of sweetness. Oat milk really does wonders in the creamy department. For my entree I got a vegan combo I believe? It has biscuits and mushroom gravy, "bacon", Tofu scramble and potatoes. It was delectable. Some of the best vegan bacon I've had and I've tried a LOT as I do not eat meat. Some vegan bacons are just downright gross but I'd would absolutely order this one again which says a lot!! Coconut bacon can taste burnt a lot of the time so I appreciate that this was a more "meaty" version. The biscuits and mushroom gravy was heavenly. Vegan biscuits and gravy is a hard dish I've tried to perfect myself and they expertly executed it. Not too salty (a common theme with vegan gravy) and the biscuit was perfectly baked. All I can say is I'm obsessed with the adorable little shop now and will be back soon!

Yum! Warm, cheerful, and full of vegan and gluten free goodness. Cozy eating space with lots of brunch options.

Great little walk up bakery with some seating on the sidewalk out front. They specialize in vegan and GF baking. We tried the vegan pancake cupcake and it was very good! I would Bebe never known it was vegan had they not told me. Delicious. The woman who helped us is very friendly and it is located in a little strip of store fronts between Troost and Waldo. Definitely go check out this little gem!

Oh my god. The food here is amazing. We had the grilled cheeze, the midwest (biscuits and gravy) and also picked up a churro cake for my husbands birthday. All the food was AMAZING!! I could eat here for every meal for the rest of my life. Can't wait to come back!

A true hidden gem in DM. Since i was a child their champagne cake has been a staple. 40+ years later i still grab some and bring it home. My 54th birthday cake was champagne. Creme horn for breakfast -no picture available. My father in law loves their bear claws. Not many places have good creme horns or bear claws ENJOY!!!!!!

I can't even begin to rave enough about the quality and taste of the food here. It's a very small Place but they have additional patio seating outside in the back. Second time getting cupcakes and first time eating brunch. Between my hubby and I we have multiple dietary restrictions and this place sure has options! First, the cupcakes are always fantastic. Every. Single. Flavor. They sweeten them with beet sugar, so no refined sugars! The entire place is Gluten Free, so no risk of cross contamination, which is always good. The cupcakes are dense but moist and not overly sweet. The frosting on them really is the star of the show. Fantastic flavor and perfect level of sweetness. I dream about these cupcakes. this time the vanilla blackberry was my fave. I chatted with some of the employees about sourcing of ingredients and they are so thoughtful about this aspect of their business. Also, their coffee is phenomenal. I have to get decaf and they work with a local roaster that does NOT use a chemical decaffeination process, which is super important for me and so the flavor of the coffee is out of this world good. If I lived closer, you bet I'd be getting coffee here VERY often. They also make all of their coffee syrups/flavors in-house. You won't be disappointed by the quality, flavor or service of this place. Definitely give it a try if you haven't. It's worth every penny.

What a such little find in KC! We were instantly greeted with smiles and any help we needed to make our choices. I got the chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting and for such a basic flavor, I was AMAZED!! Also completely gluten-free and vegan?! Loved it! The cake was super moist and had a great fluffy texture despite being gluten-free! One cupcake was around $4 I believe. Almost had to get another!

Another fitting name would have been "The Prettiest Bake Shop". I thoroughly enjoyed all the live plants, plant artwork, and color palette of the shop. The old-timey country music made me want to linger a little longer. As of today, I believe this is Kansas City's ONLY ALL GLUTEN-FREE shop. The shop is also ALL VEGAN. Those people with gluten, dairy, and/or egg allergies will take comfort in this place for sure. I am not personally gluten-free but I do think the cupcakes are tasty. The coffee is tasty as well.

Julian, the Director, is a fan of this place and he'd sometimes order an array of cakes for the staff to enjoy, they always went fast, and it was my first foray into European style cakes like what Andre's serves up. Flash forward more than a decade and I've been here a few times, sometimes to get chocolates for a friend, other times (like last night) for a meal. I didn't realize that Andre's does special events like their fondue nights. I have a feeling these are annual so you might have to wait until 2027 to snag a seat at the table, but their fondue meal was so much fun and comes with some history from their staff. Fun thing I learned was that they sell their fondue year round in the shop so if you ever want to do a unique date night at home just pop into Andres and purchase some to-go. It would be such a fun way to spend a Saturday at home. Finally, I'm going to add that for me what takes Andre's to the next level and makes it a must visit spot in KC is the history. It's been in the same family for generations, the recipes are authentic, and the owners are really kind people. It's the kind of business you can feel good about supporting and I'll be back!

My friend has celiac disease, so it's important to me to ensure my gifts to her meet her dietary restrictions. I checked online and discovered that almost all of Andre's chocolates are gluten-free and--better yet--they were open on Christmas Eve until 4 pm. So I dashed over after work, arriving at 3:40, and the folks behind the counter were all so kind and so helpful. I explained what I needed and they showed me the ready-made boxes of chocolates available--but then offered to put one together for me right then, to make sure that we chose exactly what she wanted and that every chocolate was gluten-free. They guided me through the choices, telling me the flavors that were in some of the selections, and giving their recommendations based on my friend's tastes. How nice of them!! I walked out close to the stroke of 4 pm, with the perfect box of chocolates in a lovely gift box. Hurray!! I really appreciate the staff's kindness, and going the extra distance for my friend, at the very end of their work day before the holiday started. Thank you SO much to everyone at Andre's, and Merry Christmas!

It is a space designed for the modern flâneur, evoking a distinct consciousness that feels deeply tethered to the philosophical weight of Albert Camus. Here, amidst the heavy air of romance and nostalgia, one is reminded that in the depth of a Midwestern winter or the stifling heat of July, there lies within this room an invincible summer. The restaurant rejects the stark, barren architecture of the modern world, choosing instead a stunning, maximalist design that serves as an exquisite counterweight to the absurdities of daily existence. Every corner is crowded with intention, a deliberate and lavish tapestry of textures, mirrors, and curated artifacts that forces the diner to confront, and ultimately embrace, the sheer, intoxicating beauty of the present moment. The space unfolds in distinct, atmospheric chapters, offering an existential geography that mirrors the complexity of human desire. There is a quiet philosophy to where one chooses to sit: the choice between the grounding, intimate corners of the downstairs, the elevated, reflective perspective of the upstairs salon, or the sun-bleached freedom of the patio outside. Each realm possesses its own unique light and shadow, yet all are knit together by a profoundly knowledgeable staff. These guides do not merely serve; they navigate the menu like seasoned scholars of hospitality, anticipating needs with an effortless grace that feels less like transactional service and more like a shared pact of comfort against the outside world. Their expertise adds a layer of intellectual warmth to the room, ensuring that every encounter feels both deliberate and deeply welcoming. Having navigated the entirety of the menu over time, tracing its contours like a familiar piece of literature, I can affirm that the kitchen operates with a fierce, unwavering precision. Yet, amidst an array of exceptional plates, it is the steak frites that stands out as an absolute triumph of form and flavor. It is a dish stripped of pretense but elevated to high art--a perfectly seared, robust cut of meat resting alongside a golden mound of crisp, impeccably seasoned frites. In its simplicity and execution, it becomes a reminder that true luxury is found in the masterful refinement of the essential. Tailleur does not merely offer dinner; it offers an exquisite sanctuary of mood and taste, a poetic defiance of the ordinary that demands a slow, deliberate surrender to the night.

Despite arriving five minutes early for a 3 p.m. reservation, the hostess treated us dismissively, as if she forgot we were there because it was happy hour. She seated us at a cramped table for two, even though we were a party of three, and then hovered around us throughout the evening, clearly out of place. Once we were finally seated, the service was abysmal, 20 minutes just to get drinks, another 15 to even place our order, and then over an hour and forty mins total waiting for food. During this entire time, we saw other tables seated after us being served promptly. Then, to make matters worse, the server intentionally dropped our straws on the floor and did nothing about it, and when we finally asked for a manager, she made empty promises but disappeared. After an hour and 40 minutes, we still had no food. Our simple salad order meant to come out first was delayed, and even the dressing substitution felt like an act of bias, as I was given ranch instead of the of the vinaigrette it came with. This was no accident. This was a calculated, discriminatory pattern. As prominent Black women in the community, we should not have to endure this. I have tried to reach corporate(Darden Restaurants) multiple times with no response. This must be addressed. I will not return, and I encourage others in the community to stand up for themselves as well. Capital Grille this is unacceptable behavior and has occurred way too many times with a certain demographic of people!

I had the World Cup Combo Dinner with pork ribs, pork burnt tips, and spicy pork sausage which came with 2 sides- I had the baked beans and fries. All their meats were soo tender and came right off the bone! Everything was great! The flavor was perfect, the spicy BBQ sauce goes much better than the regular BBQ sauce they served with it but I love that they didn't over saturate the meats in sauce but gave you a good serving on the side. Their ranch sauce was SO good! Asked for some to have with my fries since I don't eat ketchup and man! I would've loved to take that back to NY! The beans were really good too. Only thing I didn't try was the turkey cuz I don't eat that but I tried my friend's lamb ribs and they really just melted in your mouth.

There is a certain magic in the air at McLain's, a sweetness that feels woven into the very fabric of the establishment. It is a place that understands the language of comfort, speaking it fluently in the dialect of a perfect crust or the rich, dark notes of a expertly pulled espresso. It is perhaps no surprise that such a bastion of authentic delight has garnered a reputation that extends far beyond our local borders; if the standard of excellence is high enough to grace the plate of Taylor Swift, then surely, it is more than enough for us, the grateful residents who claim this treasure as our own. Yet, beyond the flour-dusted counters and the glowing glass cases, my deepest admiration is reserved for their spirit. In a world that often measures worth in cold, transactional metrics, McLain's chooses to honor those who pour themselves into the future of our community. As a teacher, I feel that recognition in the small gestures, the welcoming nods, and the genuine appreciation they extend to educators. It is a profound kindness, a recognition that the work of shaping minds requires nourishment, both intellectual and literal. They understand that a classroom is a marathon, and they act as the essential pit stop, providing the fuel that keeps the light of inquiry burning bright. To dine at McLain's is to participate in a ritual of belonging. It is a place where the passage of time is marked not by the ticking of a clock, but by the turning of the oven trays. It is a reliable heartbeat in the neighborhood, steadfast and true, offering a reprieve from the clamor of the outside world. Whether one seeks a quiet moment of reflection over a cup of coffee or a celebratory feast that honors the simple, profound joy of eating well, McLain's remains an unrivaled steward of taste. It is not merely a bakery; it is the living, breathing soul of Waldo, a place where every bite serves as a reminder that some things in this life are exactly as good as they ought to be.
