Full of flavor and served in a straight sided tulip glass. They offer a variety of beers for every palate. The staff was friendly, knowledge and quick to serve. The bar inside is welcoming and the seating outside plentiful. They also offer some cool branded schwag. They host food trucks through out the month to bring a variety of foods every time you visit. Sandhills is our local brewery in Mission that we've been going to since they opened! They don't serve their own food but they have food trucks most weekend evenings and snacks available to purchase. They also allow outside food on days there aren't food trucks, which is really nice, especially for families with young kids. They're very family friendly but it's also a great spot for a date night too. The staff is great and we love spending time here and supporting a local business. read more

I feel like Sandhills is an underrated brewery in KC. It's not the largest brewery but they have a wide variety of beer and so many great options. The brewery isn't super big but they do have a small outdoor space for seating. There is not table service so you do have to order at the counter. Also, please take your empty glasses to the counter people (huge pet peeve of mine). Every staff member I've encountered has been professional and nice. They also don't accept tips because the employees are actually paid decently. If you do tip, those dollars are donated to a charity that rotates on a monthly basis (I believe). They also don't serve food but will occasionally have food trucks so watch their socials. All of the beer offerings are named after birds. My favorite is a stout-Raven. It's always super smooth and a great cold weather beer. I also like their sours. Lovebirds is another favorite. But they also have IPAs and lighter beer options. Stopped in last night for a few beers, The staff was very knowledgeable about the beers they offer as well and information on their take home beers and growlers as well as the Mug Club that they offer. Staff was friendly to carry on a conversation with customers as well during "downtime". I am not a huge IPA person but I had three of the IPAs last night (Wren, Flamingo and the Green Heron) and was surprised on how good they were. read more

All I can do is sing the praises for Sandhills Brewery. On the street, in my car, while I'm in their taproom sampling the delicious beers. Specifically, their Mission location, a wonderful area with a great hometown feel. Everybody is super friendly, patrons and staff alike. The location has an easygoing vibe and you feel at home the moment you walk through the door, whether your first or umpteenth visit. But let me get to the good part. I had a blast at the event that was held at Sandhills. The event was donuts and beer. I must say I haven't had this combination before and was eager to try it out. There were 4 samples of beer that were perfectly matched to a donut. The guys serving the beer were pretty cool and explained each sample of beer. Meanwhile the donut host was serving the best donuts, they also explained each donut. The music that was playing was up to date and easy to listen to. I can't believe I didn't know until recently that this little brewery existed so nearby to where I live! A friend of mine invited me to brewery yoga which I think they offer on a monthly or semi monthly basis and it was SO FUN. The brewery itself is fairly small but clean, and inviting with huge windows that allow in a great deal of natural light. The Yoga instructor was very kind and really emphasized folks moving at their own pace, which I think is key in any yoga practice. After yoga everyone was able to select one beer to enjoy. I picked a hazy ipa and enjoyed it enough to get a crowler to take home. While deciding on a beer I chatted with the owner and learned that they also operate a sister brewery in central Kansas and I love how local they are. I know KS doesn't always have the easiest liquor laws so it's really nice to have a great little brewery on the Kansas side that is also offering things like yoga to the community. Can't wait for another opportunity to return! read more

Scottish & English Mild brews? Yes!! My American Irish husband loves these styles and he was gulping them down by the pint full. Between the 4 of us, we tried their IPA, wheat, saison, Berliner Weiss, Scottish (original, barrel aged and lite) and some guest taps. Perfect place to meet some friends, have some beers, play some games and/or make some new beer loving friends along the way! The brewery isn't marked well so you might pass it even with Google Maps directing your path. Once we got inside, we were engulfed in a cloud of mash scent. Sandhills was brewing! We were excited to see the breadth of flavor on the draft menu, from a barrel-aged pilsner to an experimental hazy IPA to a 9.8% Wee Heavy, and the list went on. The folks at Sandhills Brewery must be fans of Portlandia because they have went and "put a bird on it", for most of their products. If your gonna have a theme, you can't go wrong with birds; other than Tippi Hedren - who doesn't like birds? I winged my way out to Mission and picked up a variety 4 pack this weekend and took back to the nest for a taste test for me and my flock Saturday night. The Pelican IPA, Raven Imperial Stout, Wren Pale Ale, and the sadly named Plum-Passion Berliner Weiss comprised my $18 sampler of 16 ounce cans. All received solid thumbs up from me and my less than gull-able drinking companions with the Pelican IPA as a standout - full flavor and 7.4 ABV to get the job done. I will be eager to migrate south again to pick up another round. With this positive experience, I may even try the pricey $11 Paw Paw Sandpiper Saisson next time. And remember the cardinal rule - support local breweries! read more

I'm so excited at how this area is flourishing and growing. I have lived around here my entire life and now I work just a block away. When Sandhills opened I couldn't be more thrilled. Beer is never a bad thing! The first time I went, I ordered a wheat beer and it was good! Pretty busy in there, so we didn't stay long. The second time, though, I had the best sour beer I've ever had. Problem is, they change out beers so often I don't even remember what it was called and it was gone a month later. There's something pretty endearing about this though! They make so many great beers and the people are very friendly. Prices are great and they even serve hot food! The atmosphere is so chill and welcoming, it makes you want to go back week after week! The selection of beers is excellent. Super convenient if you're looking to brewery hop! Sandhills Brewing has some solid beers and the bartenders were great about giving us suggestions. Stopping on Saturday as part of our family pub crawl. There's indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is a little limited because it's essentially on the sidewalk in front of the building. Very casual atmosphere nice selection of beers even offer wine and soda for non-beer drinkers. An awesome and welcome addition to our neighborhood! We've been watching the transformation since they put up the paper on the windows and we were so excited to finally check it out. I loved the different birds on the walls and the clean decor. The bartenders were so friendly and gave great recommendations on beers. I tried the Hoppy Wheat, the guest brewery Tequila Blonde, and the saison. All were great and refreshing. My husband got the IPA, the Hoppy Wheat, and the Barred Owl and enjoyed the Hoppy Wheat the best. Can't wait to watch this place grow and add more beers to their rotation! read more

I recently visited Sandhills Brewery the Friday prior to Memorial Day weekend. Word is out that this place is open... my group came in at opening time on Friday (3PM) and there was a line pouring out to the sidewalks! By 4, it was at capacity (in my opinion). They had about 8 options on draft and one guest brewery tap. Majority of the drinks were 12 ounce pours (or close to it) and were about $5-6/glass. We were pretty disappointed to find out they do not have flight options, at least not at this time. Their branding is wonderful which I am a total sucker for. Customer service was great and they do not accept tips. The space is light and bright with bar top, tabletop and standing table options. It is a great location with ample parking on Johnson Drive. We're super happy to have something like this in the neighborhood. read more

There really is nothing wrong with this place. The beer is pretty good, the vibe is pretty low-key and the guy behind the counter can remember what beer I had from two months ago. Whenever it's warm you can sit out front and soak up the sun and when it's cooler you can vibe inside. They've also added a little alley seating next to the building that actually feels a little Euro. Great merch, too (said by someone whose wardrobe is half brewery T-Shirts). Honestly, I like to swing by here with a book after work every-now-and-then to just have a beer and decompress. Give it a shot! read more

My friend and I went here cause it was close by and I personally like having a brewery in JOCO. We got flights and I don't think I picked ones that I would try again but everybody's taste buds are different. They constantly had people coming in. But it wasn't ever so crowded. I like that. They seem to like birds a lot cause everywhere I looked, there would be some bird art. It made their decor cool to look at. I like how they had plants too here and there all around their place. I rarely go to breweries but my friend loves breweries so thank goodness Sandhills was nearby. I wouldn't mind coming here again if I ever wanted to go to a brewery in the JOCO area. I felt at peace inside and liked the atmosphere. They have tables that bigger groups could sit at. And another area of their place immediately to the right when you enter/order. I would recommend people to check this place out. Perfect for group gatherings or if you're a dad, bring your newborn here so the mom can have alone time or run errands before she picks you guys up! read more

A nice tap line up with quite a few dedicated to various barrel aged beers (Cabernet, White wine, Tequila). I accidentally fell upon this place on a Saturday afternoon after grabbing some coffee with a friend, and we both decided "hey why not, we like beer?" So we decided to try it out! The inside layout is super simple, alot of big bar tables and stools with a couple shorter normal dining tables. We sat at the main bar, and immediately we were greeted by an employee! He asked if we had been in before, we told him no so he asked us what kind of beer we enjoy. Lucky me, I am on a sour kick lately and they currently had about 4-5 sour options. My friend is more of a dark beer drinker, so she ordered stouts, which they also had a handful of options for. They have a 5oz for around $3 and a 10oz size for around $5-6. I ordered two of the 5oz, both gose but different flavors! The passion fruit one was a little too sour for my liking, but the tequila barrel raspberry gose was delicious. They also offer up some pretty typical little bar snacks, and have a couple lunch options if you need something to eat. OH, and my favorite part? They do NOT take tips, because they pay their employees a livable wage!! Any tips given are donated I think that alone is enough reason to go back or try it out yourself. read more

On this episode of "breweries in the 'burbs" we've got Sandhills... I really enjoyed my New England IPA that I tried there this weekend. They had a good variety of all types of beers from coffee brown ales, to IPAs, to sours all with some kind of an ode to birds (ducks, warblers, chickadees, etc.). We had a large (and loud) group on Saturday and enjoyed an intense game of Uno while we tried some beers. My only complaint is that they don't have an option for tasters/flights. I would've liked to try a few more but guess I'll just have to come back! read more
