We were looking for a place for dinner while in town for our daughters 9th birthday and a friend from the area recommended Mudcat Charlie's. It's a little place off the beaten path and is a hidden gem for sure! The food was amazing! Nothing we ordered was bad or just ok. From the alligator tail to the crab cakes, fried scallops and crab legs, it was all delicious! The portions were huge. Our server was fantastic. Well worth the money. I asked to make a reservation, but was told they don't take them. When we arrived, they said they don't serve on the patio after 3 pm. That would have been good to know. I've been going there off and on for 5 years. It used to be a 5 star place all the way. The food was impressive years ago. It is still a nice seafood place right on the water and the atmosphere is great. The place is clean and friendly but the kitchen staff and declined. The food this time was just slightly better than a chain restaurant. I'd give 3.5 if Yelp did half stars, but the food was over cooked. The shrimp was tough and the hush puppies tasted old and hard. I also thought the beer selection would expand over time but it hasnt. Very limited beer and nothing on draft. It's still a good little place to try but they need to bring the food quality back to what it was. There is better seafood just north over the bridge, but Charles is cheaper. read more

Complete with an alligator dockside, this place is a truly a great spot for boaters, fishermen, lovers of the marsh and outdoors. It was open one hungry Sunday afternoon so we ate here too. This was my first visit to Mudcat's in years and they are even better than I remember. The portions are so huge that we had to use 3 take home boxes for our leftovers. My hot wings were not cooked all the way but I didn't notice until I was almost done, the chef brought me another order and refused to allow me to pay for them. We spent about $160 for 4 people and left a $40 tip that was well deserved by the waitress, she busted her butt trying to serve us and everyone else. I'm not certain what this place does to maintain it's popularity but it's usually packed. If you'll buy it we'll fry it is their motto. They have the usual fried seafood sandwiches and platters, some fresh others obviously frozen. They do have superior onion rings. I've been here many times for drinks which I have to say Mudcat makes some great drinks however, this review is for the food. I wanted some crab legs and decided to give Mudcat a try. The crab legs had no flavor, were cold and overpriced. Being a seafood place the crab legs were very disappointing. You could get better food at the Walmart frozen food section. I won't be going back for food. CAUTION---don't sit at the bar and have a conversation, the heavy set brunette bartender has a big mouth and will tell people about your conversation. I'm a big tipper but The only tip she will ever get from me again is to be a bartender not a neighborhood gossip hen. How this could be more economical than hiring a dishwasher is beyond me but knowing that everything I was eating off of in 400 years would still be around made it hard to focus on the food. Whenever I come back home, I have to make a trip to Mudcat's. It's one of those out-of-the-way places but always full of locals, so you know it must be good! Don't worry about dressing up; the place is super laid-back and casual. Expect down-home southern seafood cooked however you want it (fried, grilled, steamed, broiled, blackened - but I'd stick w/fried) and the best cheese grits ever. Everything's served on plastic & styrofoam. Admittedly not the most eco-friendly, but because the restaurant is situated on the river, law prohibits them from dumping wastewater from dishwashing. It's a little off the beaten path and if you are travelling down I-95 it will take you maybe 10 minutes out of your way. But it is well worth it. We went to Mudcat Charlie's for the first time last night and were pleasantly pleased, our children liked looking at an alligator right off of the dock. We have a special needs child and when we questioned our waitress about food preparation for him the chef came to our table to see what we needed and prepared his food like we asked. The chef also came back to the table with the food to make sure that it was like we needed it. The food was all good and in good portions, you don't leave hungry. Despite choices like "gator" and oysters, the attempts were inadequate at best. Cocktails are decent, but don't get excited...their barely under $10 a drink on a monday. This is a great waterfront casual seafood restaurant with an excellent menu and reasonable prices. This was our first visit to that particular restaurant and it did not disappoint. First of all the view is pretty cool. You can get a really good view of the river. It's also kind of fun to watch what's going on at the dock by Mudcats. If you have a boat or other watercraft you can pull up, dock, and grab a bite to eat. If you look like you've been out to sea for a couple of days, no problem. Mudcat Charlie's welcomes all those who have been out on the water. I've had their hamburgers, fish, chicken fingers, and many other items on the menu. If you are in the mood for something a little stronger than sweet tea they have a nice bar. I'd just have to give the food an average rating. The food is good, but nothing fantastic. There are many other places in McIntosh with great food and great views. While the view is good the location is a bit out of the way. I'd have to give the service at Mudcat Charlie's an average rating, too. read more

Got seated and this waitress (young heavyset lady) ignored our table on purpose THREE TIMES when she was checking on other tables constantly even when I yelled out "excuse me" I guess everybody heard me except her then when we got another waitress' (older blonde skinny lady) who was constantly checking on the table next to us and ignored us on purpose, attention she turned around reluctantly with disgusting attitude and went "I don't know who waits your table" then walked away. It's just a gut wrenching feeling when you're treated this way.... And really sad, not just sad for me but for my children. CLEARLY, we are only people of color there and everybody else was white. We were there way too long to be treated this way by a bunch of racists until we walked out. IM SO GLAD WE DIDNT SPEND A DIME ON THIS RESTAURANT!!!! They didn't even give us water while there waiting for 30-40 minutes with small children. What kind of staff are you hiring?
