I'm so happy to see that another coffee shop has opened in 'downtown' Tarrytown. Not that I don't have lots of love for Coffee Labs, but they've dominated this part of town for long enough, and I'm always up for a little friendly competition. Muddy Waters is definitely a strong contender! I was told that Muddy Waters was opened by the same person who opened Black Cow in Pleasantville, which is not hard to believe since they both give off a warm, homey vibe. There are plenty of different seats to choose from, from sofas to barstools to larger communal tables.In addition, there are two large (clean) bathrooms and plenty of natural lighting by which to study, dine, or converse with friends. There's also UNlimited wifi (pw: coffee123), which is nice since Coffee Labs puts a 2 hour limit on their wifi. The drink menu and food menu are both quite extensive. Although I was in the mood for nothing more than a cup of coffee on my visit, I can't wait to be back to try more of their menu - including their daily soups! Pastries are surprisingly pricy ($5+ for a samosa?!), although they look super fresh and tasty! This is going to be my new go-to study spot in town! I can't wait to be back. :) read more

Poor customer service, mediocre coffee, bad hot cocoa. I was extremely disappointed in both the customer service and the quality of the drinks. I try to shop local whenever possible so it was a real downer when after two visits, it became clear that Muddy Water isn't interested in being "a friendly neighborhood coffee shop." The staff was curt, bordering on rude, which I might be able to deal with if the drinks were great but NOPE. The coffee was meh and the hot cocoa was a joke--I was expecting homemade and got something akin to Swiss Miss (but without the adorable tiny marshmallows). Small cafe with decent Coffee. They have a good amount baked goods and would recommend the Karma cookie, if available. They also have a nominal selection of hot foods. I usually get an Americano or espresso when coming to Muddy Waters. Not sure why you aren't able to inside dine, when its okay again? I like being able to relax and enjoy my food and beverage. As medical students, my roommate and I have tried to make a tradition out of studying at Muddy Water on Sundays whenever we're able to coordinate our schedules. We wanted to give a shout-out to the barista who (whether accidentally or intentionally) has matched our cups each time we've gone! This is my absolute favorite coffee shop. As a born and raised Tarrytown'er I always direct folks visiting from out of town to stop by. Not to be political, but Muddy Water is the superior coffee on the block (don't let the shop up the hip lure you in). No, venture down quaint Main Street to this gem! The staff and owners are always welcoming and lovely. The pastry selection, from guava bread to out of this world Nutella banana bread, is exceptional. The ambiance is homey and inviting. Love this place. They have great drinks and pastries, a lovely staff. They are a great addition to the community. I look forward to time there to focus on my work, enjoy the company, and feel like I have a place outside of my home to focus and meet people. The hot turmeric drink is a lovely, creamy alternative to a cafe latte. I appreciate that they offer it! They also have very clear masking/vaccination guidelines and are polite but firm about it. I am grateful that they care about the health of their staff, their customers, and the community. Unfortunately I can't write a review of 0 starts. Do yourself a favor and go to Coffee Lab just 2 blocks away. My kids are 2 and 4yo. They are good kids, but still they are kids. According to the owner they are noisy and "I can't control them". I spent at least $25 every Sunday. Guess he won't miss by money. No matter how hard a mom tries, there will always be a middle age person rolling their eyes at the way she parents. Great ice lattes and cold brew/iced coffee!! I haven't had a hot drink yet, but in my experience the cold/iced drinks are harder to get perfect, so I am sure their hot drinks are great too! The reason I will always chose this cafe is the staff and the milk alternatives! Not being able to drink milk, almond milk and a couple other alternatives, I search for my favorite, coconut milk. Very lovely place! Very comfortable with lots of seating and a great selection of drinks. The atmosphere that you can felt here is either for study or read a good book while you keep ordering coffee all day, you also can have a nice chat or play a good board game that they have on the counter. I also have seen a several books clubs reading books here. The have a good selection of different type of tea, chocolate, and coffee, not too big in the goodies. Love this coffee shop! Everything from the eclectic furniture to the stellar drink and food selection really make this place a gem for Tarrytown. There's a charming quiet space in the back that feels warm and thoughtful, like you're in someone's home. One of the only scanty cafes around the area that you can sit and linger in, so it is ALWAYS crowded. It gets real cold in the winter if you sit in the front section of the cafe because the door is always opening and closing. The back of the cafe is much cozier and spacious, but gets filled up quite easily. Overall this cafe has a good vibe, cute decor, plenty of outlets for you to do work near, and a few comfy seats. I've stayed an entire day and it was fine. However, it is not the most conducive place to do work if you are looking for a quiet place. The white noise becomes quite distracting. Had a chai latte with almond milk and it was amazing. It drank like a warm and creamy dessert drink but all it left behind was a clean feeling cinnamon flavor on my tongue. The same kind you get from cinnamon tea, just a touch dry and warm. Really nice. Tasted super clean, no secret sugar. They had gluten free cookies and lamingtons and the barista was very friendly. Pros: This place is great for studying and focusing. The people who work there are chill and accommodating. If you're there, the carrot cake was EXCELLENT and the matcha and iced chai lattes are pretty good (not super sweet). There is a diversity of sitting space, plenty of outlets, and free WiFi. Cons: The prices are definitely higher than, say, Dunkin Donuts but the food is definitely better. I'm talking 4$ scones and about 5$ for a large latte. They aren't super strict with any sort of cash minimum, but pay in cash if you can. read more

Cute little hipster place, very reasonably priced. My husband and I walked in just as one of the annoyed-looking employees was announcing that they were closing in 8 minutes. Another employee who I'm sure wasn't thrilled we walked in at that time, was kind enough to help us to the 2 drinks we ordered. I ordered a 'mud wrestler' which is a Frappuccino type drink, and it was tasty. They have a nice sized menu where you can get any drink in small, medium or large size and plenty of places to sit at either a table or on a comfy chair as if in your living room at home. Unfortunately all the sitting room seemed to have been clogged up with Apple product users probably leeching the free WiFi, until the announcement of them closing shortly. This place was nothing special. I'm from Greenwich, CT and went to Muddy water for a quick business meeting. I'm assuming the older gentlemen was the owner and he was soooooo rude. Every place in Greenwich is warm, friendly and tolerate children. I did not have childcare so I needed to take my children who are very well behaved. He had issue with stroller in the way and the chair my son was sitting in was in his way. Completely disgusting behavior. I would never go back even without my children. Horrible and the coffee was nothing special. It deserves zero stars. read more

This place appears to be cute from the outside- however when I went to look at the pastries in the display case I noticed they were covered in fruit flies. It was absolutely disgusting. So instead of ordering a pastry I ordered a coffee, which was only about 3/4 filled and tasted burnt. I am appalled by the disgusting, violent & disrespectful painting hanging in the back room area of Donald Trump. It portrays his head with many people standing below holding ropes around his neck, with his head depicted in many small pieces. Get a grip!
