As a time tested avid outdoorswoman and veteran granola girl, I don't always gravitate to state parks. It's just too easy to prefer high mountain summits, national parks and forests or private land. But Colorado State Parks are like none other. Many landmarks and places that make up the state parks of Colorado, had they been found in other parts of the country might have been designated national parks by leaders of yore. That's just the outsized grandeur of Colorado. I'll even venture: it makes other western states squirm with envy. All of Colorado is like an unofficial national park. It is, without debate, the best non-coastal state in the nation. Mueller and so many other places are a testament to that. read more

Fabulous park. Well maintained trails. Good workout as most of the park is hilly. It's a must to get adjusted to the altitude if you live at a lower elevation. Great visitor center with knowledgeable rangers. Staying in a cabin and it is really nice. No WiFi and no tv. If you need that it's best to stay home. Dogs / domestics are not allowed on these trails to protect the abundant wildlife. And face it most people do not clean up after their dogs or let them off leash to chase wildlife. Not cool. I used to hike this park all the time living in Woodland Park. I've seen deer, elk, turkeys, owls, and I think it was a minx cat. read more

Mueller State Park Policy banning dogs from all trails is a slap in the face to Colorado Residents with pets which are probably a majority of resident campers and hikers. E-bikes are everywhere, you can hunt shortly into some trails... their site says they tried and it didn't work but did they have trash bags, disposal sites and manage the trails? Fine those breaking rules and I bet the majority are out of staters. It's concerning that Colorado State Parks have momentum to ban dogs from Colorado hiking trails yet want our money and support, they should foster a program to succeed instead of one that fails. Looks like Mueller is for Dog Haters. read more

This was an awesome winter hike and the visitor center was also good. The hike we did was a loop near three ponds, had a lot of great scenery with the fresh snow, and had some steep elevation gain. There were a few spots where snowshoes could have been good, but we all managed. The parking lot was large and the grounds were simple to navigate. read more

What a lovely state park, I just wish it was closer to Denver! After a nice drive through Woodland Park, you get to Divide then Mueller is not too far. We did a trail that took us to a number of ponds like Lost, Geer, Rock and Brook Pond and barely ran into anyone else the whole time. There's definitely a lot of ups and downs on the trails but well worth it plus it was pretty cool to see Pikes Peak from the "other" side. Dogs are allowed at the park but not on the trails. You get to see some beautiful sights down there, especially of the Sangre de Christo mountain range, just another set of mountains to tackle! They have a nice little visitors center with merch, bathrooms, water and tables if you need to take a break. I can't wait to come back here again in the fall and explore, aspens are a plenty at Mueller! read more

This park has so many hiking trails and different kinds too for biking, horse riding, or hiking. The trails are well maintained. The visitor center has a board that tells what wildlife was seen and where (which trail) the previous day. The park has a large amount of nice campsites. Definitely need to know data about your campsite before reserving it if you have a long camper or RV. The fire pits are also nice. read more

We only did the Lost Pond Trail and took us almost 2 hours to complete and has a lot of inclines but would say it's an easier trail. Recently stayed in Divide and enjoyed the first and last days of our trip at Mueller State Park. $9 gets your whole car load in for the day. The trails are well-marked and maintained and accurately described as easy/moderate/difficult. The views were absolutely spectacular - look for trails marked with a camera on the map; they do not disappoint! There are lots of places to enjoy a picnic lunch, several well-placed restrooms, a small playground, and a fun and informative nature trail for the kids right when you enter the park. This is a wonderful place to enjoy some fresh air, away from the hustle and bustle of many of the Colorado Springs tourist-y areas. Highly recommend! read more

We visited this park the day after we went to Garden of the Gods and it was such a refreshing change of pace. Wet saw almost no one while we were here for 4-5 hours. A few more people were on the trails by the time we were leaving, but it is such an empty park with great hikes. The first hike we did was a loop that combined the Outlook Ridge, Raven Ridge Overlook, and Lost Pond Trail. The views from Raven Ridge Overlook were awesome. The second hike we did was to the Grouse Mountain Overlook which had even better views. We planned to continue on the Cheesman Ranch Trail until we got to Buffalo Rock, but we never found it and ended up turning around. The Cheesman Ranch Trail was pretty boring. All of the trails we did were moderate. There were some steep sections that can be a little challenging (especially if you aren't used to the elevation), but it wasn't too bad overall. For the best bang for your buck (mileage?), I recommend the first loop we did (about 3.5 miles) and the Grouse Mountain Overlook. read more

I'm not entirely sure of the criteria on which to rate a state park. We stayed in the Pine Cabin, which was great: clean & comfortable, all the amenities, good value. Our interactions at the gate and with the cabin hosts were all pleasant. The park itself is essentially a giant campground with hiking trails sticking off of it. The hikes we tried were all good, but no gems. They designed an interconnected system with lots of miles of trail, but most seem to have no highlight or destination. Trailhead parking lots always had plenty of space, which is good but also tells you something: there are more interesting hikes in the area. read more

One of the nicest campgrounds I have ever been to. This is definitely high altitude camping at 9,600 ft. The campsites are half n half shady/exposed. If you want the stunning views of Pikes Peak you're going to sacrifice the shade coverage making this park a great place to go during shoulder season. Extremely well kept. There are optional hike-in sites as well as backcountry camping, full electric, and even cabins! Pro tip: Not every site has a bear box so check the listing. read more

We stumbled upon this place during the Pandemic when RMNP was so overcrowded. It's a nice place for the young kids and also grandparents that don't like long hikes. They have shorter hikes that are not as well manicured like the national parks but easy. Not a big hiker, they have lots of paved roads with great views for those that like leisurely strolls. Weather does tend to split around this location but they do have their occasional storms. Shower house is pretty good. Visitor center is nice. My only sour point is the lack of patrol of the rangers. Unlike national parks, I see more kids chopping at trees, items being left out that shouldn't (coolers, stoves, washing supplies), washing dishes in the water filling stations. Overall, excellent mini vacation spot. read more

From the vantage point of the parking lot of Mueller State Park's Visitors Center, you can view the back of Pike's Peak (that is if you usually see it from the Colorado Spring's side) and the majestic spine of Rockies dividing our Continent. You're more likely to get that clear view in the morning before clouds obscure the view. It's only minutes away from Colorado Springs. I'm hoping that you'll pick up you're senior friends and/or family who may have mobility issues for a picnic here. The park entrance fee was $8 for our car. (This would be subtracted from a season pass if we decided to get one at the Visitor's Center.) New to Colorado? Don't forget to have clothes for the elevation and the wind that picks up. We just toured the Visitors Center this day, which was full of information and exhibits on the flora and fauna of the region. And there was that panoramic view from the parking lot. Up the road were the RV camping sites that are booked way in advance. If you want to see the best and finest recreation vehicles, expanded to capacity...this is the place to see them in all their glory. read more

We love coming here to camp. The spots that open up to the trees(which is most) are amazing. You feel more secluded even though you are in a campground. The park had activities like bow and arrow lessons for the kids on the holiday weekends. read more

While in Colorado last week, my brother took my wife and me up into the "mountains" through Woodland Park. Nearby Mueller State Park is a large Colorado park that offers lots of camping and hiking/biking trails. Now, none of us are "hikers", but we wanted to get out among trees and nature in some fresh air. A friendly park ranger at the park entrance recommended we drive all the way to the end of the paved road and hike up Grouse Mountain to the "dead tree" for a fantastic view. The veteran park ranger was right. Trails 16 & 17 are just 0.8 miles up to the highest point in the park - the stunning view from Grousse Mountain Overlook. At 9843 feet above sea level, the Overlook offers a beautiful 270 degree view of dramatic mountains and vast valleys. It seems you can see forever. Pikes Peak is off to your left and the Sangre de Cristo Range to your right. It only costs $6 per vehicle to enter the park. Since it is just 25 miles from Colorado Springs, Mueller State Park is a great choice for a day trip. read more

Traveled here from New Mexico. Could be a very beautiful place to camp however it is like a retirement community quiet time at 10 PM, local neighbors who camp here often complain about every little detail from kids running around to noise close to 10 PM. We had the Ranger visit us about five times in one day to make sure we knew how many people could be at one campsite (6), to make sure we knew how to park correctly in the paved roads and of course to remind us again about the 10 PM quiet time. We were a large Hispanic family camping at two sites with small children. Apparently we were not welcome here by the other campers. So yes beautiful place to visit if you are two old people that want to just stay in your RV for a week. Definitely not family friendly or for visitors traveling from anywhere south of Colorado. Lovely clean restroom facilities, great space for Glamping. Our sites were full of wasp nests. Brought the kids ATV we were riding slowly on the paved road and of course once again we're told by the Ranger these are not permitted at this state park. However motorized golf carts and motorized bicycles are allowed. Definitely felt uncomfortable, racially profiled and unwelcome due to not being of retirement age and having small children. There are much better camping sites in this state that aren't so ridiculous. Won't visit again or recommend to friends. read more

We stayed here a couple of weeks ago and also in 2011. This is a really nice campground! The sites are electric, plus tent only. They have a dump station, coin operated showers and laundry. The showers/restrooms are very clean! If you are looking for somewhere to plug in, I highly recommend this park! read more

Less than an hour from Colorado Springs, Mueller State Park offers a vast array of hiking trails of various lengths and difficulties, as well as over 80 campsites, and cabins. It's a great place to see the aspens change in the fall, and to snowshoe in the winter. It also offers access to hunting grounds in season. I went there this fall and wondered why I go so rarely! It really is a beautiful area with nice facilities, and very accessible. There is a daily fee charged, which is the only downside in my opinion, but it's only about $5 if I remember correctly. read more

For the reviewers who stated that they can't bring their dogs: YES! YOU CAN BRING A DOG! However, they are not allowed on the backcountry trails--only in your camping area since this is a wildlife preservation area. I do wish that you could take your dog on the trails, because they are gorgeous. We stayed in a campsite that had a trail into the backcountry right in back of our tent. We took turns walking a while down this trail while the other stayed with our dog. We used this park as a base camp for Colo Spgs and saw the Garden of the Gods. Don't NOT go just because you have a dog. yes, you can bring your dog camping. TONS of dogs there with their owners. read more

The trail heads are awesome with lots of parking, bathrooms and water. We would go back for sure. This is the place for Fall hiking. I have never seen so many Aspen trees. read more

Just your average Coloado state Park. Granted, this would put most other states' parks to shame, but my rating is given relative to other state parks within Colorado. Perfect for a day trip if you're stealing away to the mountains and staying in or around the Divide area. Great for snowshoeing, hiking, your typical park adventures. Bring the dog, play frisbee. Saddle up the horse and trot along the hills for hours. Plenty of facilities (read: bathrooms) along the main route. Main roads plowed well enough in the winter. Several pull-out areas along the road for out-of-the-car camping. Minimal daily fee--well worth it. read more

Great Pikes Peak Region camp area, very scenic. Reservations a MUST in summer - campsites have nice metal table, fire pit and level gravel areas with hard surface parking. Great rest rooms and showers. Many nice trails and a great place to just sit and enjoy. Over 100 sites and you can expect this location to be full. read more

Over this last weekend we stayed here and found the park clean with nice views. The hiking trails are marked well and looked maintained. Over the winter months the campground is limited to about two dozen sites. There was only 3 left when we rolled in Friday afternoon. We setup at one facing west with a nice mountain view. We bumped into a ranger and also spoke to someone at the visitors center; both were helpful and kind. The bathrooms are clean and well stocked. This campground has 50 some miles of hiking and biking trails. Mueller also is one of the highest State Parks at 9,500 feet, so there's excellent views everywhere you turn. Our campsite was partially secluded, had a decent spot for our tent, shallow fire pit with grate, and a heavy duty picnic table. We enjoyed staying here, and being there is so many trails we have to come back to explore more! I recommend this campground if you like to hike and bike. Also some really great views throughout the camp! read more

Mueller State Park is an amazing, well-maintained get away so close to Colorado Springs. The hiking trails are well-marked and plentiful. The Rangers are friendly and knowledgable. The campsites are well built and there are two walk-in areas for tents, which cuts down the possibility of listening to RV generators. Generators are not allowed at night even in drive up areas. Dogs are only allowed in the campsites and along the roads--not on any of the trails so as to allow wildlife viewing and dog free hiking for those of us who rather not have dogs about. Serene, beautiful, peaceful place that is wonderful for rejuvenating the spirit! read more

Great park - very clean and well kept. A bit pricey for just electric sites. There is community dumps and clean water fill but nothing at the actual site. $33 a night and $5 for a tiny bundle of wood. This place is making a killing. There are dog designated trails and you can keep pets at your campsites but not at the rental cabins. Very clear rules on the website and handed to you when checking in. Beautiful scenery. read more

Mueller State Park is GORGEOUS and I was prepared to write a 5-star review. HOWEVER... They allow hunting at the park, which I was not aware of. We could hear gun shots all morning from our cabin. Also, customer service was absolutely terrible! Not very happy with Park Rangers Watson and Svare and the way they handled their own miscommunication issue. It was never stated on the website, on Reserve America's site, in the published rules on the site map, nor in our confirmation letter that dogs were not allowed in the cabins. So we brought our sweet pup. Oh man--- hell fire and damnation showed up at our door while my husband and I were hiking. The Park Rangers harassed my stepdaughter and threatened to evict us with no refund and told her and my other minor children to pack up. When she argued with them, they threatened to arrest her. The younger girls were sacred and had all their stuff packed by the time we returned. Their tone was a little different with me because I showed them the confirmation that only mentions keeping dogs on a leash. We were told that dogs are illegal and we needed to keep her in the vehicle. My husband drove all the way to Colorado Springs to leave her with family friends. Luckily we didn't travel from another state! All THIS for having a dog!!!!! read more

This is probably one of the best well maintained parks in the state of Colorado. Absolute stunning views very clean many many different campsites all with good views of the mountains. Conifer Ridge is the most sought after camp area. Best to make reservations. Water is available most campsites have electricity Central location of bathhouse laundry.
